Steph's right btw, Jungkook's officially "center", it's a designation in kpop meaning member who gets most time in the center position in dance formations (and often also in promotions etc, though I don't think this is the case for BTS). It ties into JK being the main singer (meaning especially earlier on he had the best singing technique and got the hardest parts, plus is usually the one harmonizing with other members) because the choreography tends to center or make space for the member who is singing. They also usually want one of the strongest dancers front and center.

By the way, the MVs of I Need U, Run, Forever Young, among others, do tell a story; they narrate events of what the fandom knows as "Bangtan Universe", a universe created by the boys where they are characters going through significant moments in their youth, and through this universe BTS seeks to inspire and teach their audience on their own path of deconstruction and self-love.

  • @iamxhakelyn09
    @iamxhakelyn09 2 года назад +316

The first 3 albums of BTS are their school trilogy, that is why their MVs were shot in a school setting. As the year passed by, and they mature, the focus of the music change as well (I need U, Run, Young Forever) are from their album Most Beautiful moment in life - which focus on being a young adult - being with friends but also going through suffering.
Boy meets evil and Blood Sweat and Tears are from their album wings which was based on a book. It was about losing their innocence and giving into temptation (reason why Jin kissed the statue) - there is a much deeper meaning to this but that is the gist of it.
Spring Day is about missing someone but it is also related to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy - Steph will for sure cry if you watch the explanation if the MV.

young forever is a really important song to bts, it's basically drenched with the desperation of youth and the lyrics are about how they know this moment of fame and following their dreams won't last forever but they aren't ready to let it go yet. it's possibly their most bittersweet song in my opinion along with spring day, which is another song about grief/missing somene. the lyrics are heartbreakingly beautiful. i hope you react to their lyrics one day :')

@@liesje194 you'd need to watch the video where a Korean breaks down what the scenes in the video mean by each scene in order to fully see how a book R.M. read; where the rich elite treated the lesser class on a train (of earth's only survivors) so badly to understand how the book's referring scenes relate to the ferry disaster to understand that there are pretty clear references to the ferry disaster all through the video. One example is; the shoes hanging from the tree are referring to how those young students who really died in that ferry disaster, almost all of them had stayed in their rooms (and other places inside the ferry) as the ferry was going down, because they were obeying the authorities on the ferry who gave instructions for them to stay where they were & await further instructions, which led to their unnecessary deaths, because the captain and crew had already left the ship.....real victims shoes were hanging from somewhere afterwards, that represents a victim who is no longer on earth. Korean culture drills into young people respect for authority, not questioning authority which is why the young teens just obeyed and did not try to get off the vessel as it went down.

You'll follow their journey from the beginning in the correct order (from even pre-debut), and you'll get to know them on a more personal level. What they've gone through, their rise to fame, goofy and professional sides. And also the music and performances in the correct order. There's a 19+ version that includes some blood, fighting, and overdosing, but it shows a lot of the story (you later see some hints of it in Euphoria). It's no big deal tho since you're just checking out the music and not their alternate universe! unless that's something you wanna dive into later? 👀

When I first discovered BTS and went down the rabbit hole watching their MVs, I focused more on the music and visuals. I was overwhelmed with the greatness of the sound and the MV that I couldn’t bring myself to diving into the lyrics. Later on though I did and I was even more mind blown learning the lyrics of their songs. Made me appreciate them 100x more as artists. Take your time guys, I have no doubt you’ll discover their lyrics soon. Or maybe next time you felt like watching their MVs again, switch on the subtitles. If you ever decide to react to the Rise of Bangtan series, the lyrics there will also be highlighted. Keep doing what you do! You make so many people happy!

The lyrics in "I need you" originally were supposed to be - "I need you, friend", not I need you girl, but since it didn't sound very good they decided to go by more romanticized version. But the true meaning of the song was shown in the MV

Commenting as I’m at I NEED U, you guys really need to see the original version to understand it better and see the full story to it. Steph was right about there being a story to the video and Wes was right about it being more about fraternal love. as much as i want them to read the lyrics/cc like almost everybody wants in the comment section, i had a feeling that they unintentionally weren't going to & be focused more on the visual. and i was right! bc i also think they're not the type to do lyrics and analyze them like the other reactors anyway (just a personal opinion tho, i might be wrong). & personally, i think that's fine. considering they usually watch bangtan for their fun stuff, games, and more on their personalities. also considering all of the songs have meaningful lyrics, it can be overwhelming if they tried to digest literally all of it in one video. at least now they know more bangtan's musics than before and see how effing talented the boys are... besides being comedians ofc. 😂
but still, a Rise of Bangtan series reaction would be nice. 😚 luv the 3 hour long reaction btw! 💜

Yes, Jungkook is mostly front and center because that's also his position, they all have official positions in the group:

    Suga - Lead Rapper
    J-Hope - Main Dancer, Rapper
Jimin - Main Dancer, Lead Vocalist
V - Lead Dancer, Vocalist, Visual
Jungkook - Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Rapper, Center, Maknae
    Some explanations:
    Main>Lead (for example: main vocal>lead vocal>vocal)
Maknae means the youngest in the group. Visual is a member with good looks that usually takes on acting as well.

Love the longer video reacting to everything!! Just discovered you guys today haha A couple of notes for you (though I'm sure others have mentioned this too!)
    1. For the Boy In Luv MV, you guys were talking about the generally aggressive manner that Jin was treating the girl. Fun fact, he actually apologized to her profusely because he felt so bad, even though it was for the MV lol
    2. You guys REALLY REALLY need to see the 19+ version of I Need U!! It's explains so much more of the story! There's like a solid minute or two of stuff cut out in the all ages version. Think butterfly effect to get the general idea of the video! Jin is going through and changing little things here and there to help his boys out and put them on the right path.
    3. Please watch all of them with subtitles! I've seen pretty much all the other comments saying the same thing, but the subtitles are really so important! In the N.O. video, there are some really important messages that you guys missed because you didn't have the lyrics. On the surface, it looks like a stereotypical "bad boy/hooligan" concept, but it really actually has an amazing message, especially for the school age audience.
    4. Save Me was indeed one shot, no green screen! You can see the behind the scenes of it in a video, and it was also very cold so you were right in saying it looks cold!
    5. A lot of the "trippiness" you brought up in V's solo "Singularity" is partially due to the lack of lyrics. The song is actually very deep and involves topics like losing your true sense of self, toxic love, and accepting yourself as a unique, singular being. The video makes a lot more sense if you have the lyrics, and if I remember correctly, I wanna say it's based on a book, if I remember correctly.
    6. Fake Love actually had no CGI in it! The effects were all very real which is super cool!!!
    7. The MV's do mostly go together! There is a consistent storyline but you have to really watch the MV's involving said storyline in order. You can look it up online of which order to watch them in, but you'll want subtitles for this too!
    8. There's so many good songs that don't have MV's from them, like Sea, and Born Singer! I highly recommend you check them out! And check out the solo works from RM, JHOPE, and Suga!
    9. I also really wish you guys had reacted to Taehyungs first solo song Stigma! Has some great vocals and also ties into the storyline you spotted going on in I Need You.
Overall, great video guys!! Love to see people get so hyped about BTS and recognize their improvements! ^-^

Thanks for the great reactions you guys!
I really recommend looking into some of the videos lyrics and explanations since you seemed curious! (Eng lyrics are in CC)
    1) the HYYH storyline: I Need You, Run, Young Forever, Butterfly
HYYH is the name of the albums BTS released in 2015-16 and the music videos(MV) from that era follows a very intricate alternate universe storyline (Some of the videos from their future albums also continue this storyline which is known as BU or bangtan Universe). It can get pretty confusing so i recommend watching XCeleste's HYYH storyline explained video after watching the MV's: ruclips.net/video/2-DEu3ZJtEU/видео.html
    2) Wings short films: the Wings album includes the song blood sweat and tears and Boy Meets Evil (the super dramatic cinematic masterpieces lol) the album also has a solo song from each member and a short film for the solos. They are also connected to the BU storyline: ruclips.net/video/nv9M7Fsx2ME/видео.html
    3) Spring Day: this is probably one of BTS's most famous songs in Korea and is considered to be about the Sewol Ferry tragedy. Both the lyrics and video holds a lot of meaning. After reading the lyrics you I recommend watching this video that explains all the references and symbolism: ruclips.net/video/FrT4a_Fw6pE/видео.html (the narrator speaks really fast but I feel covers everything the best)
BTS's lyricism is probably one of their biggest attractions and what really set them apart even during their early debut days, so I think it's really worth taking a deep dive :)

and also clarifications (though you've probably already heard them since this was posted 6 months ago):
    - taehyung is the one who cuts his hair in "danger"
    - originally the lyrics for "i need u" were gonna be "i need you FRIEND"
    - when BTS were filming "save me" it actually was freezing lol and yes it was a oneshot with no greenscreen

    3 HOUR REACTION LET'S GO!!! 🔥🔥🔥
    Edit: Answers and some info!
    > The "meow" in Just One Day was actually a girl saying "Yoongi-ah" because the line is "Your voice when you say my name" 👀
    > They have a lot of MVs in schools because they started their career with a school trilogy. This set them apart from other groups because they weren't trying to appeal to the girls from the start. Rather, they addressed the social problems in South Korea, especially with the youth and how they are forced to follow the dreams of other people. The series "The Rise of Bangtan" on RUclips (created by ARMYs) follows their journey and will definitely help you understand their songs more! (Warning: you will cry)
    > The plot of their MVs (especially the Most Beautiful Moment in Life story, which follows I Need U, Run, and Jin and Jungkook's solo videos aka Epiphany and Euphoria) is AMAZING AND SO COMPLICATED. It has webtoons, a mobile game, novels, and basically a whole universe within it. If you're interested in that, we can help you get into it too!
    > Suga IS the ultimate "hooligan" 🤣 When asked who is the biggest trickster and the members chose him, he responds with "I just know how to live in this harsh world" 👀
    > Jin is the designated actor for their MVs, but V has also been another important actor in the group. Most especially recently because he is the first member to get into acting and has received an award for the historical drama he starred in. Both Jin and V are amazing actors! Which is dangerous because they're also the ones most likely to mess with you just because 😆
    > Oh no, you watched the censored version of I Need U! V acts so well in the end there 😳
    > **If there is an explanation video I want you guys to check out, it would definitely be Spring Day Explained!** The song goes so much deeper (Spoiler: It's about a national tragedy and BTS went against the government by releasing it. They might have been added to the list of blacklisted artists, but they got around it by never admitting that the song was about the tragedy.) "What's Omelas" - explained here: ruclips.net/video/Tye1ONFeKis/видео.html 💜
    > Jungkook is in the front a lot because he is the center of the group, which is a position in K-pop for whoever is the "face of the group" (although to be honest, at their large scale, EACH and EVERY BTS member is instantly recognized by the general public). Meanwhile, J-Hope is in the front usually for their dance breaks because he is the dance leader (teaches the other members), main dancer (along with Jimin - they have very different dance styles), and is one of the 4 in the dance line (Jimin, V, Jungkook - basically Hobi and the maknae/youngest line) 🕺
    > "The vehicle that's shown up the most in BTS is a truck" - Because they couldn't afford extra actors or extra props at the time, they borrowed their manager's truck and had their staff film the other scenes with them (such as the one where JK gets beat up) 🥺
    > 1:56:15 YOU GUYS ARE SO CUTE 🥺😭💜 I love the effort to understand though! I didn't either until I knew the story behind each member and their relationships in the BTS Universe! (Spoiler: JK is on top of a building because he was trying to k**l himself. Many other members also have their struggles)
    > 2:03:50 I love Wes's enthusiasm so much! It's so infectious 😆
    > Idol MV is notoriously confusing and has A LOT of hidden gems about Korean culture! My favorite detail is how the lyrics go "talking talking", because BTS is complaining about haters running their mouths. But when it shows the bunny in the moon, they change it to "tokki tokki" (which is rabbit in Korean). The IDOL explanation by DKDKTV is amazing! Also: BTS actually reacts to their music videos! While their music is 100% in their control, their music videos usually are decided by their writers, so they get shocked at how the scenes tie together or are edited too.
    > Heartbeat MV is indeed about their alternate lives! Like the start says, "If you weren't there, would we shine as bright as now?" talking to ARMYs 💜
    > The "lanterns" are lightsticks! They have a different name and design for every fandom (see: www.pinterest.com/pin/8022105574436673/) but BTS lightsticks are called ARMY Bombs! Dangerous name to use on security checkpoints though 🤣
    > 2:52:55 I agree with you guys! I'd also like to add that V is known to be a snappy dancer, but he's better at switching from chill and flowy to aggressive and snappy in milliseconds. In my opinion, his dancing doesn't get noticed a lot because HIS FACE just draws your eyes. He is called the "Idol of Idols" because younger groups idolize him and study his fancams (videos that only have him in the frame in a performance) to learn facial expressions (He is the master at that)
    > ON and the more recent MVs are still ongoing and have not yet been figured out by smarter ARMYs 🤣 So we're all confused! 😆
    > Yes, the Life Goes ON MV was filmed by BTS themselves! In fact, the whole "BE" album was produced by the members (i.e. the cover art, the photoshoot concepts, of course the music, and this MV)
    > 3:27:30 WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT V 🤣 The camera loves him and he very clearly loves the camera too 😆 (He actually does love photography though!)
Last note: I loved this reaction so much 😭🥺 Thank you for the 3-hour video! We love seeing you check out their music and their more professional career, but I wouldn't be against seeing you just laugh at their antics in RUN BTS as usual 🤣 ARMY appreciates you 💜

Yes Jin and SUGA (Yoongi) more or less remains unchanged, we think they drank from the fountain of youth.

You guys might've been confused throughout watching this, but every music video is in someway connected to eachother to tell a story.
In BTS music videos EVERYTHING means something which is why Army sometimes has to go back and watch the same video multiple times to try and theorize/piece things together. If y'all are interested you can look into the "BU" better known as the "BTS Universe" stuff gets real deep. I would suggest asking Army how to go about it, but that's a video for whole other day lol!

BTS was originally created as a hip-hop idol group. They were heavily rap and hip-hop in their first mini album. The early videos (No More Dream, We are Bulletproof, N.O.) of BTS were about their commentary on the strict rules and expectations of Korean society on young people. Students in Korea are expected to study hard and their future achievements and success are highly dependent on which university they go to and their college course they studied, etc. BTS were students during this period and they were reflecting on their school life. They of course also talked about young love, crushes, etc. ( Just One Day, Boy In Luv).

It was Tae/V with the long hair in Danger, and they gave him a wig. He was only supposed to cut the wig and accidentally cut off some of his own hair. As for 'I Need U' it's not actually about a girl, the lyrics were meant to be "I need you, friend," but it didn't flow as well, and you would need to watch the original 19+ version to understand it better. The lollipop/sucker Namjoon/RM has in 'Run' and 'I Need U' is supposed to represent a cigarette, but you can't show smoking on video in Korea, so they would use a lollipop/sucker instead. By 2015 they were mostly known in Korea, but they didn't become super big in the USA (from my understanding) until around 2016-2018. For 'Save ME,' it WAS cold, cold and rainy, you should see the behind the scenes, and it was a one-shot music video.
Edit: 2:29:16 No, BTS World is their mobile game and RM/Namjoon's "Alternate Reality" thing is him as a detective and Jin's is him working at a hotel.

  • @aparna12242
    @aparna12242 2 года назад +20

2:38:41 "She was the cloak" Yes "she" represents army and the boy in the story represents BTS. The demon represents all the haters. The sword scene if you notice cuts to tae holding his green microphone ; their sword aka their ultimate weapon is their voice/music. The girl (army) became an omnipresent cloak of protection for bts always supporting them and fighting against the haters. There was a time when bts said they believed armys would eventually grow tired from suffering on behalf of them and leave. That's why they show the cloak getting burnt and the boy shedding tears because they thought their fandom wouldn't stay by their side for long due to the immense hate they got from the industry but they were wrong. Armys always showed up to cheer bts up (just like how that one teardrop on the cloak brought the girl back)
That's what they are trying to say. 2:35:01 if you notice the negative space that was formed (between heir shadow and their hands) when the girl and boy held hands, is the BTS LOGO. No bts mv is as literal as it may seem. Every single one of them have sooooo many symbolic meanings behind the most minute detail included.

2:17:12 actually, this is probably the video where they knew the most what they were doing 😂 this came out as big clap back to haters, with so many references to the korean culture (wearing modernized hanboks, the bunny on the moon, the tiger, jungkook’s cough…) and references to specific moments: rm using filters because a hater told him to stop using filters on v-live, V wearing glasses because someone told him not to wear them, suga wearing a shirt with a picture of snow white because he has very pale skin… this is basically bts telling us that they’re gonna love themselves no matter what people say!
this is also filled with korean references because around that time bts’ popularity exploded in america, and antis started saying that bts were too “westernized”, so again, a big f you 😅 their performance at MMA 2018 is amazing.

i always love how they made ‘boy with luv’ as a response to their old song ‘boy in luv’. they are having fun with Halsey as a women just acting normal and being respectful as women should be treated rather than their past video when they were going after the girl and being intimidating. they all are wearing pink and wearing “feminine” jewelry, getting rid of old toxic masculinity. it went from ‘IM IN love with YOU’ to “im in love WITH you’

Heartbeat is the original soundtrack for their own video game called BTS World where each have their own fictional story. The shots from the music video are from those stories. Yoongi is a pianist, Namjoon is a detective, Seokjin works at a hotel, Jungkook plays taekwando, Jimin works at a rice cake shop, Jhope is a veterinarian, and Taehyung works at the farm for just a couple of months or something like that. Those are side stories and there is also the main story where BTS is all together and is kind of similar to how they got together in real life but with some changes, so that’s where those last shots in the MV come from.
