- I've finally mastered the perfect recipe after trying various versions, and today, I'm excited to share it with you. As I prepare a delicious dish known as Taco Slop using canned ground beef, I guide you through the step-by-step process of crafting these tortillas from scratch. The recipe includes a mix of flour, baking powder, salt, avocado oil, and warm water, with a crucial resting period for the dough. I'll show you how to roll out the tortillas paper-thin and cook them to perfection in a skillet. It's a warm and cozy cooking experience, perfect for a snowy day. Join me on this homestead journey and embrace the joy of creating your own tender and flavorful tortillas at home.

Success story: I ran to the kitchen, used your recipe, and wow! The flavor and texture were both great. I placed the left overs in a zippered bag in the fridge. Over the next several days I zapped one for ten seconds in the microwave before adding filling. The results were perfect. They were flexible, easy to roll up, and held together without ripping. By the way, they work well for various sandwich fillings too. Thank you so much!
Good morning, Rachel, your hair looks beautiful, ❤thank you for the recipe
Hi Rachel I have been making flour tortillas at home for the last year and store bought taste like card board and we wont buy them again.
Oh my gosh Cowboy candy in a burrito is the BOMB! 💣 yum!!!
Once you try a fresh tortilla store bought just won't due. Thanks for the recipe.
New sub... Snow and cold got up to 15 today. Central IL.
Rachel you can also take a cloth towel folded in half and put your tortillas inside and that keep them warm, then after you eat the ones you need, then put the rest in the plastic bag and keep them in the fridge.
I will be making my own tortillas from now on too . Love watching your videos.
GREAT NEWS - My grandmother made tortillas from scratch almost daily and she has passed on but my aunt shared with me you can put the dough in the fridge wrapped in saran wrap and even freeze some of the dough for a couple of weeks. This is great news because I like my tortillas fresh and you can make two or three and tomorrow morning take enough dough and make another one or two for your meal. I tried it and it works great.
Thank you for the tortilla recipe today!!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited to make them as soon as I finish up what I have in the fridge! Stay warm!! Love your videos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just bought some too. Last time.
Tacos look awesome !!! And so does your hair ! Absolutely beautiful !!
Yum! Thank you for the great recipe for tortillas! Now know what I am making for supper. Blessings on your day Kiddo!🌻🐛💕
Definitely want to make these. Love watching your pup watch you cook. Also, your hair looks amazing
Miss Rachel you look very pretty 😍 ❤ thank you for the recipe 😊
game changer!!! I'm setting aside tomorrow to make granola, sandwich bread, and I'm trying english muffins for the first time. I may need to toss this recipe into tomorrows mix!!
I have watched a number of videos on making tortillas and you are the first to add the resting of the dough to the recipe. I have made tortillas my whole life and the rest is a natural part of any good bread process. The only thing you do different is rolling it out with flour, I was taught to lift and turn the dough. It adheres to the counter but isn't sticky and lets go perfectly. My recipe is 4 cup of flour base which is easy to split for small batches. I am a Lifeskills teacher and we did 'Tortillas 101' virtually during the covid break. I really enjoy watching you and Todd live your day to day lives. You were frequent 'guest' comentators inmy classroom.
This is the only recipe I use since you first posted it… I had tried many that I was not happy with.. the only thing I do different is I use my Bosch compact mixer with the dough hook to knead it. Stay warm up there!
I love this! Can't wait to try! I always liked to watch Connie, the mother on La Bamba, make them but always wanted a good recipe and these look like hers... so yay!! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
Thank you for the recipe! I made flour tortillas the other night and was not thrilled with the recipe. I am going to make these tonight!
I do something similar to this taco slop. I love to add rice and eat it with chips. We go through a lot of tortillas...not sure I'd have the time/patience to make as many as we go through, but I might try it. My kiddo loves quesadillas.
I have always mashed pinto beans in my taco mix also. Homemade tortillas are the best. We also made a large wooden tortilla press so I can make large tortillas for burritos.
You can also freeze your tortillas and bag them in a ziplock by the dozen. This is really convenient if you want to make a bunch all at one time. 👍🏻
Making tortillas is something I need to learn. Thx for sharing what is working for you.
Thank you for sharing this recipe and how to cook them! I've been meaning to make some! I also love your taco slop and will be giving that a try!
I love that cast iron pan! I need one of those for my collection! Thanks Rachael!
You must of been reading my mind . been wanting a recipe for flour tortillas, everyone makes corn and I only eat flour thank you ❤
Rachel!!! You look great!!!!I love the hair!!!!
Quick, easy and delicious is a win, win! Thanks for the flour tortilla recipe. I love how thin they are, and I am so excited to make these. Much appreciation to you for sharing your time with us and teaching us wonderful recipes!!
Now I’ve made my share of homemade tortillas from a Mexican cook book that I found years ago. I don’t make them often. I buy small ones that are low carb. Sometimes I get low carb spinach tortillas.
I use store bought lard. Plus I keep my tortillas on a plate when done cooking and keep a damp cloth on top. Then put in a Fallon bag.
Tortillas should be flexible when folded and not tear. No my circles aren’t perfect either.
Rachel there’s a recipe for what we call picadillo in Texas . It’s good by itself or with tacos
Girl your hair is on point today!
Agreed with the others your hair looks beautiful! Also yay! Thank you for the tortilla recipe!!
Yum, tacos! I haven’t had success with homemade tortillas, I need to try again.
Also that taco slop looks delicious
How Nice ❤. Anybody else getting hungry. Loving the cumin ✔Thank you for this tutorial.
Now I’m hungry for tacos!
I started experimenting with tortilla making last year. I'll try your recipe next. One of our favorites was using sweet potatoes in ours. Pumpkin and butternut squash can also be pureed and used. But, sometimes, we just need a normal flour option. The store bought type have a smell that keeps me from eating them.
I have wanted to learn how to make my own tortilla shells for a while now and had not found an easy way or a yummy recipe and I like yours for both. Thanks for sharing Rachael, I'm going to make these this week for taco night.
Me too!
Wonderful recipe; thanks for sharing! I did Naan bread with my sourdough & loved it, so this should be just as easy. Blessings to all 🤗🇨🇦
What a great video. I like using some of Mrs. wages items. I never knew making ketchup could be so easy! Thanks for sharing. I love Canuary!
Yum. Now I know what to make for dinner!
I love that you put cowboy candy in. I put it in my cheese quesadillas. It's also great on grilled cheese sandwiches. This is only a treat as I try to stay Keto and this is definitely not keto but oh so tasty. Thank you.
I’m trying this recipe this week I can’t believe how much these have gone up! Thanks for the share loved the video❤
those are beautiful I been looking an easy tortilla recipe Thanks
We always want the bubbles to stay😊
I used your previous tortilla video to help me figure out how to make my first batch a few weeks ago. I about sent my husband to the store to get some because I didn’t think I could do it, but I am determined to make our bread items from scratch this year. Love homemade tortillas so much more! I have 4 little boys 7 down to 1 and they enjoyed them as well as my husband. Thank you!
Outstanding Rachel!!
Thank you !!
Patricia
Those is definitely a better recipe I have seen. I have made some different recipes but, yours looks quicker and really good. Thank you, God bless and stay safe 🙏 ❤
Rachel, Thanks for sharing. I have never made .
Oh my goodness, yes! Homemade tortillas are the BEST! Store bought tortillas taste like disappointment. (As Jess says about tomatoes)
Awesome! I learned how to make tortillas at 11 years of age. My mom made them everyday. I'm 70 years of age now. Boy do I miss my mom's homemade tortillas. I don't make them anymore as my hands can't handle it anymore.
Dang girl, you make it look so easy! I’ll have to try this recipe

Hi Rachel, I use this exact recipe as well and they come out perfect everytime! We’re actually have tacos tonight and my family tells me not to buy store bought tortillas anymore because mine are better ❤
Best to flip 1/8 turn to get a round tortilla. First roll is oval flip 1/8 turn roll, flip roll, flip roll.... till size you want.
So excited to try these!!
I really need to try these. I’ve made the corn tortillas before but never tried the flour ones. May have to try them this evening. Since it’s too cold for much of anything else. 😂 Thank you for showing how easy it is!
Great recipe. Will come pack several time to right down the recipe. Worth to try often. Great.
I must do this.
Thanks, Rachel! The last 2 times I've been to the store I meant to buy flour tortillas but forgot (list at home). These look even better and not at all hard to do at home. I'll have to try this this weekend. Thank you!

I've been making my own (mostly) since forever...50+ years? And I am so thankful for the message on letting the little guys rest. I have occasionally but usually too impatient. I will from now on, you can better betcha.
love homemade tortillas. Lard as fat changed my tortillas with taste! I use avocado oil in everything but I saw a test on acre homestead on you tube & so I tried it & WoW!
Love watching your channel & I also love your cabinets & countertop. Thinking of a future new home- want to go with a wooden finished top on island

Good looking recipe,
I was just telling my husband that I wanted to make our own tortillas. First thing I see is you giving the recipe. Thank you.
This turned out so yummy! Thank you! I also placed all ingredients in my bread maker on dough setting and it work out great on making the dough! 😊

This is awesome. Have always wanted to try this!❤
Your hair looks gorgeous Rachael! TFS your recipe. I just bought a cast iron tortilla press. Can’t wait to try it. ❤
I did, too! We love tortillas - hubs prefers flour but I like corn, so we have both types when making tacos. This video motivates me to have taco night as soon as the pot of chili is gone, probably within a couple of days - lol.
Can't wait to try this!
Interesting how different recipes work well for different people. I changed up my recipe that I always loved after 10 years because it didn't work well anymore.
I am going to try my first attempt at making tortillas in a few days. I will try your recipe.
Ms. Rachael, thank you for sharing your recipe for flour torillas!!
