It would also be nice to see how the Ballast affect a bulbs performance... using the same bulb, but different ballasts, to see if there is a difference between them, or do you think its the quality and longevity what your paying for?
Ballast will affect the bulb brightness. Denso is one of the better if not the best ballast for 35watts and will make the hid bulbs brighter. Just like a hylux 45watt ballast will make the hid bulbs slightly brighter then a 35watt ballast would but you have the downside of the bulb not lasting as long.
The test will be more complete if you measures multiple points for lux across the pattern instead of just the brightest point. If a bulb design happen to be more focus on that projector, it might be brighter than others even if it produces less light. At end of the day, i want to light up the whole road instead of a small point/area. This is still a pretty good test though.
nice test, certainly shows the value of buying good bulbs, BUT I cannot help but wonder why as you tested a Philips Xtreme, why didn't you pit it against an Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited??

Again, this might be an optical illusion as I wasn't actually there and the color cast on the wall might also have an effect on how I'm perceiving the results.
The camera does make a slight difference in color rather than seeing them in person, as 5,000k in person is Pure White. 35w and 55w can also affect color, as the 55w washes color down slightly, by about 1,000k whereas 35w keeps it's true color. 6,000k is where the blue comes into the picture ever so slightly, and 8,000k it becomes quite prominent. HIDs should not be used in reflector style headlights and should ONLY be used in projection style headlights only. Using HIDs in reflector housings throws light everywhere and blinds oncoming drivers. Not only is it dangerous for you and oncoming drivers, the HIDs will not perform anywhere close to the way they would in a projector housing, since the light will be refracted in all directions, instead of being in a focused beam with a nice sharp cutoff. If you are going to spend the money on a HID conversion kit, and want the headlights to be safe and perform the best they can, do it correctly and also purchase headlights with a projector housing. They will perform WAY better, they will be safe for you and oncoming drivers, which is the most important reason. Good luck in your search!
2DaNub very well said! Sadly a lot of people don't know this. Or some do but are inconsiderate and don't care about other drivers on the road that they're blinding. They just wanna look cool with their bright, blue-tinted HID's at other people's expense. Here's a hint for all those guilty of driving with HID's using reflective housings: if you receive a lot of oncoming cars flashing their bright lights at you it's them telling you that your lights are freakin blinding them. Do the install properly or don't do it at all.
Is it true that when your bulb fails you need to change both ballast and bulb? My local retrofitting shop who retrofit my fog lights told me this, and I'm kinda skeptical and find it a bit weird?
Usually you'll want to change both bulbs at the same time, However that's just to keep the colors the same. You do not usually change the ballast and bulb at the same time.
Can you tell me the correct way to install a hid bulb inside a projector housing . I'm a little confused . Just want the best beam pattern . I have the 55w gtr lighting hid kit with the hylux ballast

Alright. So what options do I have onna 2009 W204 Mercedes ( C class) with factory projector lens on low beam and H7 halogen bulb at the moment. How to convert to a D2S set up?
carlos vasquez Yeah found some options but with new MOT laws in the UK, I might just be stopped by police or not pass MOT. Im still considering them. Thanks.
are there any issues from heat on any of these hid kits? im going to be getting a 2018 wrx later this year and they come with a projector with a halogen bulb installed. i know its different technology but you mentioned in another video there are hid kits that go up to 5000 true lumens per bulb witch is massively more than halogen of the same size, and that makes me concerned about heat output... also im pretty sure the wrx has a reflector high beam, ive heard these bulbs arent designed for reflectors but since its a high beam it would be blinding everyone anyway... so should be fine in that case right? also the link in description seems to be broken.
So I have separate projectors for my high and low beams on my silverado and I wanted to put the hids in both, but I have heard that using hids as high beams isn't really a good option if so what could I put in for the high beams?
Would using Philips xtreme vision gen 2 yield in the brightest setup you can make using a 55w ballast? I am planning on purchasing the GEN 2 150% to use with my 55w GTR lighting ballasts. I also would like to know how much brighter the GEN2 Philips' compared to the 85122XVC1 used in the video? Please make a video for comparing these latest bulbs if possible, as your company strives to advertise for the best products.
I really need some help I have been checking so many videos and still haven't come to a conclusion,my car has reflector headlights (infinity) and uses d2r but can't seem to find a good d2r .....some say I can use d2s but I I heard it's a bit different....can you please recommend a good d2r pleaseeeee thanks
The reason your car uses D2R bulbs, is because the reflector housings you have are only supposed to be used with halogen bulbs, whereas D2S bulbs are made to be used with projector housings. If you are going to spend the money on a HID conversion kit, and want the headlights to be safe and perform the way they are intended to, do it the right (safe) way by purchasing headlights with a projector housing. They will perform WAY better, and will be safe for you and oncoming drivers, which is the most important reason of all. Good luck!
The bulb is not what is 35w or 55w it’s the ballast. Generally speaking running 55W setups on Xenon bulbs “overdrives” them and shortens their lifespan.
Andres tinajero I do, they will have a green tint at first but I just drove with my lights on day and night (35-40 Miles per day on average) and after 1 month they are white with a bit of an incredibly small hint of blue
I ended up getting the morimoto 6500k by accident wanted the 5400k but i guess ill be keeping them on my g35 i didnt notice any green but u could tell the hint of blue after thier on for a few minutes the blue dies down a bit so im keeping these for now only problem is one bulb was going on and off thie first day after tht havent had any problems hopefully it dosent happen agin our i migjt have to return them
What about a real life test, drive a few miles and see others drivers reaction, oncoming traffic and same line in front. Generic 1.830 LUX and Philips 4800 LUX for ex. I dont want to spend a lot of money and can't used because blind other drivers.
It's tough to do a driving test for each because we'd have to install each one then go for a rip with each one. All of this after hours because... night. It's also tough to quantify results from a driving test because you can only see so much from a video. We could go around driving with the same bulbs, and just say they're different, and tell you what we want to tell you and you'd be none the wiser. There are some channels out there that get so excited about new LED bulbs!!!!!!!!! but you really can't tell how bright they are or how they look on the road in a video like that. I hope you understand what I'm saying. It's really tough to show results in real life settings. All we can do is show you stock (everyone knows what stock is like) then show you how much brighter HID's are and you make the decision from there. Thanks for the question!
Joey, I'd recommend a 6000k color 55 Watt HID conversion kit. That's going to outperform anything else in your projector housings. are there any issues from heat on any of these hid kits? im going to be getting a 2018 wrx later this year and they come with a projector with a halogen bulb installed. i know its different technology but you mentioned in another video there are hid kits that go up to 5000 true lumens per bulb witch is massively more than halogen of the same size, and that makes me concerned about heat output...
also im pretty sure the wrx has a reflector high beam, ive heard these bulbs arent designed for reflectors but since its a high beam it would be blinding everyone anyway... so should be fine in that case right?
also the link in description seems to be broken.
Get yourself a morimoto projector from theretrofit source.
So I have separate projectors for my high and low beams on my silverado and I wanted to put the hids in both, but I have heard that using hids as high beams isn't really a good option if so what could I put in for the high beams?

Halogen infrared were supposed to be the future of non-xenons when they came out but that's an "if you can find them" situation
Is this a 55w or 35 w ballast?
The one shown in the video is a 35 Watt ballast.
Good luck!
@@2DaNub if it's an older infinity im sure it used factory hid in a reflector. Like the Acuras and Cadillac etc.
my car has 35w d1s, can i put a 50/55w d1s instead?
no you cant. you will have problems. they will not start correctly
The bulb is not what is 35w or 55w it’s the ballast.
Generally speaking running 55W setups on Xenon bulbs “overdrives” them and shortens their lifespan.
then why does my bulb say 35W on it?
Michael Hector same reason why a halogen bulb says 55W on it. It is naming the industry standard wattage that the bulb was designed to run on.
Anything for h11 size bulb for projector ?
The GTR Lighting HID kits come in H11:

Headlight Revolution I ordered the above link for my 2013 Honda Accord lx .. do they come with a lifetime warranty ?
So I have a 2014 nissan maxima with stock hids. Can i use the Gtr lighting you mentioned in this video? or is that not compatible
Christopher Nunez if they are the same size they would work. D2S
Yep! The GTR will be a great fit!
Morimoto is yellowish. Wish I had bought something else.
GetoverYourself give it a month or two, then it will be white
Do u recommend them i wana get these
Andres tinajero I do, they will have a green tint at first but I just drove with my lights on day and night (35-40 Miles per day on average) and after 1 month they are white with a bit of an incredibly small hint of blue
I ended up getting the morimoto 6500k by accident wanted the 5400k but i guess ill be keeping them on my g35 i didnt notice any green but u could tell the hint of blue after thier on for a few minutes the blue dies down a bit so im keeping these for now only problem is one bulb was going on and off thie first day after tht havent had any problems hopefully it dosent happen agin our i migjt have to return them
No yellow for me tho !
Hey what relay harness will be for a D2S light bulb?
Do you want to try my new bulbs? If possible, I can send you a set of bulbs
We are always willing to try new bulbs, feel free to send a set to us at our business address! 2281 Defoor Hills Rd NWAtlanta, GA 30318
I understand, and thank you for reply.
Keep up the good work.

What would be best to get a pure white light? For a 2014 Nissan Altima
Joey, I'd recommend a 6000k color 55 Watt HID conversion kit. That's going to outperform anything else in your projector housings.

Phillips lighting can't be beat, they are also of much higher quality than anything else on the market and absolutely last the longest.
Is there a video like this for these HID bulb but in a reflector? I have 03 Acura cL I believe I have the factory HID and was planning on upgrading sometime in the future. I did have my eyes on the GTR lighting heard it’s good.
why no orsam cbh? It already tested brighter than the cbi.
Shocked at how good the OE bulbs are even next to premium aftermarket... Guess I will go OEM on my replacements. My challengers D2 bulbs have 170k on them lol
With HID OEM is almost always going to be brighter and last longer but come in at a premium price!
@@HeadlightRevolution thank you guys seriously for all the work and testing-- I cant even explain how valuable a resource it is. Plus it looks fun haha
All are chinese hids, chinese manufacturers makes for them! They just have a contract and rebrand and sell them.
you have reasson; but when rebrand they include quality control.
