What a cool test and video, thank you! This just reassures me about my purchase I made for the Phillips Xtreme Vision bulbs. I installed the D3S on my 2014 Ford SHO and love them, but I always wondered if I made the "correct," purchase. Nice to see this test confirms my purchase and I live in the Midwest with all kinds of weather so it's a perfect bulb being the brightest with just a tad bit warmer color too. But they are a perfect white as far as the eye's concerned.
Thank you for this video. This is my own personal preference, and what I like to see out of my eyes. I bought the Phillips Gen2 and the Osram CBB. Gen2, was very bright like you said but too OEM for me, way too much yellow for MY liking. Personally if I’m going to have HID’s I don’t want them to look like OEM bulbs. The CBB was perfect for me, both clean bright white with a very small touch of blue and that is exactly what I want out of my HID’s. To me they were in the 5500 kelvin rating, not as much blue as in a 6000k HID. So, if you want a very good bright OEM colored (yellowish) bulb then the Gen2 is a great pick, but if you like/want a more bright white/pure color that look like aftermarket HID’s then the CBB is an excellent choice. Hope my $$ and trial and error helps someone. Cheers!

Did you ever think to simulate your test room with street lights and/or wet road like conditions to show a real comparison of what these bulbs will actually look like in the every day world? Thanks for video. Could you test CB Advance? I put D2S CBA just recently and I can see its K and lumes on par with D2S 35w single led arrangements aftermarket bulb.
I love to see that 4800k bulb in h1 base instead of using the 5500k from morimoto for a bulb for the matchbox and mini h1 7.0 and install in my high beam for my ride

bought the Xtreme Vision Gen2 DS2 and I am VERY pleased, significantly more light output vs CBI in my application.

Thank you so much for making this video, I have the Morimoto 4.0 in my F250 and wow what a difference. I also have the Morimoto 5500k bulbs running on Morimoto 55w and I think they are great. But whenever it’s time to switch out the bulbs I want to know what the best is when it’s time to switch the bulbs and this video did for me, thank you. Please anytime A better bulb comes out review it !!!!! Thank you.

The CBB would be a great choice if you like the whiter look. I like the white light look, but getting the best light output is my main concern. Plus the 4800k won't be yellowish like the oem.

Excellent comparison, by far the best I've seen. Do you have the Lux info for the X-Treme Vision gen1 bulb? I just purchased the gen2 of the White Vision and curious how they compare against them.
Unfortunately the Gen 1 was already discontinued by the time we shot this, sorry man! but the Gen 2 is the best out there at this time, so a good buy indeed.
Best performance = safest driving. With 444 being WELL above any of the other bulbs AND decently white I will choose the Philips for the best all around all weather performance. I use my car, I don't car what people think about the lights lol, it's safety first for me!

Great objective test! Are you able to do the same comparison with say a CREE XHP DS2/3 LED headlight bulb? Would be interesting to see if you can get even more light!
Donald - we could do that test but would guarantee you that the light output would suffer by a long shot. LED is nowhere near as good as HID.
I love my Cbb on my e60 but I’m leaning more toward the xtreme vision 2 because it rains a lot here in Wa state

I've been meaning to post an update. They definitely have more color than osram cbi and philips whv2 in d3s. the colour is actually very similar to how i remember cbi's looking in a d2s - note this is in a 2016 jaguar f-type bi-xenon projector (most likely shared across all same era JLR vehicles) - colour is a mainly white light with a tinge of ice blue, i've been driving around with headlights on and the colour is starting to lose that ice blue tinge and becoming more of a pure white. in terms of output, i feel like the philips whv2 had more output, mainly in that the output seemed to be full right to the left/right edges of the beam pattern vs fading out like a typical xenon bulb

Guys please help me out! I've been researching headlight options for a while now. I have an MK4 Volkswagen Jetta. I want something at least 10 to 20% brighter than stock. But there's so many options out there. LED, halogen, HIDs. I definitely want a nice beam pattern. If I could find something brighter that wasn't super expensive. Basically the best bang for my buck to be brighter than stock.

This might be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway. Can you run 50w ballasts on these bulbs? More specifically the 2nd gen Xtreme Vision D2S. Is so, then how much more light can I expect?

Hi! I was wondering if you could help me understand why i have xenon d1S in my c350 2010 and can’t seem to see anything. Some cars do pass by me and my god they light up the road 10x more than me!
I did buy a 2012 mercedes c300 and the lighting output was much brighter than my c350 2010 model.
I currently have philips original xenon in my left projector that i believe never been changed. Right side is an osram which seems to have much less light output and has been changed a few years ago...
Can you help me understand this?
Most likely it's the projector itself. Inside, it has a reflector that can crap out over time due to heat. But it could also be the bulb itself or possibly the ballast. But I am not an expert so I don't want to give you the wrong answer. I was having a similar problem. I purchased a pair of retrofit headlights (Not from TRS) with some in-house ballast that look like Hylux brand (Good O.E. brand). A little over 3 years later, the light output got really bad. I have been swapping bulbs out, brand after brand. Still can't figure out why it's still so dim. Then I ordered some cheap projector from Wish.com for fun. Trying to keep everything consistent, I install the bulb in the Wish projector using same ballast and everything, then compare it side by side with the retrofit headlight. Aim at the wall, the cheap quality Wish projector light output was 50% +/- brighter than the retrofit headlight... Seemed to me the shop that did the retrofit used all cheap quality parts to assemble my headlight. So anyways, if you have swapped out the HID bulbs multiple times and didn't solve the problem. It's probably your projector.
Would you have any information / compare the lifetime of factory bulbs to aftermarket bulbs like Osram CBI , Phillips ExtreamVision Gen 2 ?

These would only be available in D1S/D2S, which I dont believe your Anzo lights would take. We would suggest a Morimoto Elite system with the proper bulb size, usually an H1 www.theretrofitsource.com/hid-systems-20/hid-systems-universal.html

My Audi uses D5S :(
I've tried and seen a bunch and the 4800 to 5000 range in high quality bulbs are the easiest on the eyes driving in the dark for long periods of time. Philips 4800k would probably be the best option. Not a fan of the blue tinge you get at around 6000k
I believe that the more blue you get, the less output you have down the road... I drive a lot at night, all night, and want the brightest longest range bulbs, HID's, LED's period...
All the BMW's I ever had even with halogen bulbs, put the low beam way, way, down the road... Yes, they were to me, The Ultimate Driving at Night, Machine.. :)
Do you think you misspoke when you said 1 min warm up time on the Xtreme Vision Gen2? Your other vid on Osram CBI, CBH, and CBB got 30 secs and before you said 1 min WUT in this vid, you said 30 secs. Keep it up! Thanks
In the other vid we were using a Denso ballast, although still rated at 35w, they're the fastest ballasts in terms of warm up time out there. Though it really shouldn't take anywhere close to a minute even for the Morimoto ballast to warm up (likewise, 30 seconds for a Denso) we wanted to keep it consistent & safe - ensuring full intensity in either case.

Philips are good bulbs, but the Xtreme Vision or CBB will definitely be top performers over the Ultinon.
Please do a comparison with the xb35 bulbs they are significantly priced lower, but I hear good things about them. I'm gonna be using a Matsushita ballasts with 08-14 WRX quick retro kit and was wondering about reliability issues with the XB bulbs and the OEM ballasts.
The Matsushita's in my CTS did not like the XB35 D1S bulbs. They would ignite, but start flickering every few seconds shortly after.

My Cadillac is D1s so you may have different results. If you were going to try the XB35, I would make sure that you buy it from someone that will take it back and not make you pay the return shipping since Morimoto does tout these are compatible with Matsushita ballasts.
Ended up with Philips White Vision Gen 2 and very happy. Just ordered a set of D3S Osram CBB for the wife's car.
do i need to buy a canbus/relay to operate the phillips bulbs cannot seem to find anything related. do the bulbs come with the canbus/relay or would i have to purchase that separately and if so which one should i buy
If you are already running HID bulbs these would be a plug and play replacement.

Well, these are HIDs for sure! I would recommend going with a lower Kelvin bulb if you want a warmer color! Let us know if you have any other questions, have a good one!

My car takes d3s is there a osram cbb version for d3s I can't seem to find the right version to buy. All seem to be 7000k or say xenarc etc.?

What about the 55w HID retrofit. Have you tested / compared those?
Of course, 55w will always out perform 35w since they're being over-powered.

You guys should be pretty stoked about the CBB, its virtually the same intensity as the XV2, and much much whiter.
I know I'm comparing apples and oranges here, but I'm pretty disappointed in the output and color of the D3S CBB's in my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. There is no noticeable improvement in output over the stock Osram 66340HBI D3S bulbs that were removed. I also find the D3S CBB to be too blue. The D1S Philips White Vision Gen 2 in my 2011 BMW blows them away in output and the color looks more like a pure white rather than the blue I see in the CBB.
Again, completely different system (bulb type, ballast, projectors) so take my information with a grain of salt, but I'm thinking I should have gone White Vision Gen 2 D3S. I'll give these CBB's some more time to break in before I make that decision.

Hi! Nice comparison, i have one question, if compare Osram xenarc ds1 Original 66140 and Philips Xenstart standard wich is more bright and more"cool-clear-white"? I know that one is 4150k and other 4300 ...but very similar color temperature...for you wich is better?
Both of those will be very close to each other in brightness. It will really depend on the headlight for which one will be brighter. I'd make your decision based on the color temp that you're wanting.
@@RetrofitSource i see in more video that stock cars and supercars have to default Oem 4300k philips 9285 bulbs....and now i have on my Astra opc osram original 4150k..and i dont know if i change it with philips i will have same brighter and whiter result like mini, bmw, audi....
The 4300k Philips bulb is a very common OEM bulb. The Osram bulb likely won't be any brighter, those two bulbs are very comparable. I will say though, with such a small kelvin difference, you won't be able notice the color difference at all.
Which of these bulbs matches the best colorwise with OEM DRL’s and OEM LED fog lights? I have a 2017 Infiniti QX60 that comes standard with LED fog lights that puts out a very white light and I would like to match my HID’s to them. Which would you recommend?

We think we're gonna re-shoot, potentially because the focus of the D1S bulb we were using to represent the CBB was in fact off.

Yes, generally speaking we do agree with this - after some time in use the bulbs break in to their factory rated Kelvin

I am looking to upgrade my low beams which uses D4S.
It comes from factory with Xenon which I might assume is the baseline Phillips you show ib the video.
I was looking for a LED Light then I saw this high intesity bulb.
Then I asked myself, would this be brighter than a cheaper pair of led lights.
The LED Lights I am considering cost only US$ 25.99/pair on amazon, and advertise to produce 10,000 lumens per bulb = 20,000 lumens per pair/set
And this phillips xtreme vision gen 2 D4S costs US$ 165/pair
Another question I have regarding this pbilips bulbs is:
Since HID Xenon systems consists in Bulb + ballast
Shouldn't I also upgrade the ballast to provode higher power to the bulbs?

You won’t want to switch to LED in your D4S Lexus, Trust me. Your HID setup is already significantly better in terms of beam pattern and brightness than almost any LED bulb that you could fit in there.
Buying cheap chinese junk bulbs on Amazon is only going to get you cheap chinese junk... I would never do that.. Think about it... $25.99 a Pair????? It has to be absolute junk...
I'm new to HIDs but I want these bulbs? Will getting the 55watt morimoto ballast be all I need to install these ? And will the 55watt affect the color?

That was the case until the NBL was released. The NBL is the new mac daddy of D2s's.
A both is super with a little but differences if NBL is stronger than philips but I think the color philips is more good
In the comparison of the different Osrams bulbs, the D2S CBB y'all came up with 460 lux, and in this one the D3S was 421 lux. TRS, does this mean the D3S has lower output than the D2S bulb for CBB?
SaintNick289 they used the d2s again here. I was also wondering why they got the 460 lux with the cnb but much lower now. I'm lost. I do know I just installed the cnb in d3s on our new pacifica and they are much brighter and better looking than the factory Phillips d3s bulbs.
I think the numbers are pretty meaningless and is only a comparison number in a controlled test. The test that got 460 may have been a little closer or something else different with it.

I fitted the Philips Xtreme Gen2 HID lamps in my 2011 V70 and they take a huge amount of time to warm up! Is this common with these types of lamp?
Huge amount of time? Like how long?
@@RetrofitSource Sorry, probably didnt explain it very well, on start up. There is almost a green shading to the lamp that takes a while to clear, ad even then, you can still see slight shades on green in the overall colour appearance from the drivers seat. And they dont appear to be very bright either. I will be swapping them out for a more OEM look at approx 4300k so ill see how that is.
Gotcha! I would say try out the Night Breaker Lasers to move away from those possible greenish hues!

Osram Nightbreaker was the top bulb on Headlight Revolution's comparison test. Came in about 1200 lux. However they are $250 a pair.
How did you get a D1S to fit in the MD2S 4.0?
We didn't, unfortunately the D2S projectors can only use a D2 based bulb.
There is a color tone difference between the two CBBs I bought in the same box. one looks a little green. is this normal?

Hi，I just bought the osram cbb d2s 7000K, but it looks like 5500k. Is it normal?Or I should burn in the bulbs at least 10 hours to get it closer to 7000k? Many thanks.
We also thought that the "7000K" rating was a bit too much, because in our own tests the color of the bulbs seemed the same as the CBI/CBH bulbs from Osram. We think Osram just gave it that high kelvin rating to allude to the highest intensity from the bulb, not really its color

Yes for sure, most usable output, most lux. The XV2 from Philips is the king there.

I’m so confused I have a 2017 Jeep renegade with HID lights my Jeep takes D5S and has the Phillips D5S C1 which is nice and all but I would like it abit brighter but I went to your all’s website and even Phillips and Osram and cant find anything to fit mine except the original D5S . Sorry new to the HID group hopefully someone can help me out

Just installed xb leds in a mazda cx-5. The stated color temperature on your website is 5500k. What bulbs will be the closest match in color? Cbi? Or the new cbb?
CBI would be the closest out of the two.
In the osram bulb shootout video before the osram CBB lux was 460.In this video you are now saying that the same osram cbb comes in at 421 Are you sure this is correct.Please double check.

We were using a D1S to represent the CBB, since D2S was out of stock - but the capsule (and performance) should have been the same.

naif alkhaldi According to Lightwerkz, it takes about 2 minutes for the ballast to stabilize the output of the bulb. Sometimes if the amount is taken before that, the lux amount can be slightly off.
This is true, but doesn't apply to this video as we allow proper warm up time before getting the results.
The measured lux is not the important number, its the difference between the bulbs that is important. Depending on which ballast is used, what room ambient light is coming from the background, if the bulb was cleaned, all play into lux readings. If we did this test today the numbers would probably be different, but the difference between the bulbs would be the same. If LW did the same test, their numbers would probably be way different, but the difference between the bulbs would be the same yielding the same conclusion on which bulbs perform the best.

Hi, i cant make up my mind over Philips wv ,xv, or cbb, im looking for much whiter than standard but defiantly brighter , its a lot of money to spend so id like to get the correct ones, im swaying towards cbb over xv for the modern look, all i want to know is will either be defiantly noticeable over standard, thanks very much
Go for the CBB, its a huge upgrade over stock, nearly the same intensity as the XV2, and much whiter. XV2 is a bit too warm for your taste most likely if you want something much whiter than factory

@@RetrofitSource will the CBB still be good in bad weather? I have heard that the cooler/bluer the color, the worse the visibility in bad weather. I'm in California so I only deal with some rain in the winter, and sometimes fog so CBB may be fine, but should I go with the Philips XV for better performance in those senarios instead?

Problem with these Lux comparisons is that the sensor making the measurements may have no relationship at all to the way the human eye perceives light. It's quite possible that a bulb registering less Lux on this sensor may actually be perceived by the eye as "brighter". The only really valid use for this Lux sensor is in comparing different bulbs of identical color temperature. In that case, the Lux comparisons are scientifically valid.
Also, what you see in this video is subject to the way the camera sensor responds to different frequencies and what the color temperature of the sensor is. What the video shows in terms of relative brightness may not be what your eyes would see in real life.
Lux is a measure of brightness, so it is a real number - however you do have a valid point in that our eyes may be more "comfortable" seeing at night with a bulb that has a lower kelvin rating compared to a higher (whiter) one - that is true.
