I have a 2012 Infiniti G37xS Coupe with HID ballasts D2S; I wanted a brighter and bluer output than my OEM bulbs (probably Sylvania) I tried bulbs from Lumens and had nothing but problems from on the passenger side. In 5 years I went through 5 bulbs because as soon as the weather cools off and the ambient air temperature drops below the 70's especially down to the 45 - 60 F the light flickers and eventually turns off even though the go on normally. My local garage who sold me the Lumens can't figure out why the Lumens fail only on the passenger side. I suspect that they even caused a ballast to fail and I had to replace the ballast on the same passenger side a couple years ago. I want a bulb that will last, will not flicker when I go over a bump or go off completely while I'm driving. I want a bulb that is a brighter and blueish in color. I was thinking of the OSRAM XENARC Cool Blue 7000K 66240CBB-HCB. My question is given all the problems I had with the aftermarket Lumens (and they're not cheap at $75 ea..used to be $35 ea...tariffs?) So would you recommend the Morimoto or the Philips in the 6k to 7k? or to stick with OSRAM (Sylvania). Even my very patient Infiniti dealer's mechanic whom I trust said to stick with factory; when we installed the factory bulbs I didn't have any issues at any ambient temperature: No flickering (especially when going over bumps) and the bulbs stay on. He was right. So it looks like the resistance is a bit issue with the Infiniti regarding OEM vs Aftermarket bulbs. (35 watt. )
These should work great in bad weather! Obviously your line of sight changes. However, if you run a lower temp bulb you'll be able to see further in bad weather.
Well, what about the brightness in the foreground, below the hot spot? That is what I'm most interested in, as well as lateral illumination. From your results, it appears that the Night Breaker Laser has more foreground illumination than the XV2. Also, my Enclave uses D3S, rather than D2S. Should these results translate to D3S as well? The Morimoto D2S 6000K HID bulbs are estimated to produce approximately 3,200 lumens of light output. However, the lux measurement, which indicates the intensity of light on a specific area, depends on various factors such as the design of your vehicle's headlight housing, the projector's efficiency, and the aiming of the headlights. Therefore, without specific testing in your vehicle's setup, it's challenging to provide an exact lux value for these bulbs.

I'm really confused . On a another video between the Osram Laser vs the XV2 the Osram won ? But on this video the Phillips won.. are this a newer version of the XV2 ? And on your website you have the description as both beating each other ? .. up to this day on December 2021 what's the winner ??
You should break in the bulb before testing them. HID bulb do improve after a few hours of run time. I was just reading about it, with picture proof, concerning the Philips XV2: www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/761231-Tax-Day-Special-on-ALL-NEW-PHILIPS-X-tremeVision-Gen2-150-HID-Xenon-Bulbs By the way, actual Kelvin rating for those Osram bulbs, from Osram’s own specs sheets (and not the BS “up to” written on the packages) are: Ultra Life : 4100K Original Classic: 4100K Original: 4300K Night Breaker Laser: 4600K Cool Blue Intense: 4800K Cool Blue Advance: 6000K Cool Blue Boost: 6000K And that makes a lot more sense! For Philips: Standard: 4200K Longer Life: 4300K Vision: 4400K X-Treme Vision Gen2: 4800K White Vision Gen2: 5000K
Thanks for the great review! I found the answer to many of the questions that were running through my head but unfortunately, I have got a few more. Why does the (H1 XTR Philips XV2) have a light output of 1050 while the d2s Philips XV2 1680? aren't they the same bulb but the difference in the size only? Hope to hear the answer from you soon! Thanks again.
Sorry, but I didn't get you. Do you mean whether a reflector or projector? I believe both H1 XV2 and D2S XV2 were tested on projectors so I still thinking about why there is a huge difference between them.
Now this is very strange: - in another video you've put a similar comparison and Osram NBL was outperforming the Philips XV2, now you're saying that Philips > Osram - same thing, in another video you've put the CBB outperforming the CBI, now you're saying that CBI > CBB In other review seen, again Osram was outperforming the Philips on low beam but Philips outperformed Osram on high beam, but again, you've tested them on low beam not high beam, so why all these inconsistent results?
That's a great question and before I give you the reasoning as to why discrepancies in tests like this can appear let me assure you that we did the test and reported 100% honstely what we've seen. There are no tricks being done to skew results. With that being said let me give you somethings to think about: We did not do these tests in laboratory settings, but more of a real-world comparison. The maximum brightness may be different from test to test because the tests are done in different spaces with different ambient lighting, different lux meter tools, a different headlight unit, and performed at different distances. You need to remember that a Lux reading in and of itself does not mean anything - but a lux reading compared to other lux readings, in one controlled environment, is what is important. You need to consider all the factors for each of the tests you're looking at when determining what the results mean. If one bulb performed better at closer distances instead of longer distances, it means it doesn't have the concentration of another bulb. If One bulb performed better in headlight assembly A but worse in headlight assembly B, then that should be a part of your decision making process - which headlight are you using? I hope this helps!
@@RetrofitSource I agree with the comment below yours. Can you do multiple bulbs of the same kind? For example, 3 of each and get an average lux reading for them.
That is correct, the CBB bulbs will be more white compared to the CBA bulbs! Shoot us an email if you have any other questions! Support@TheRetrofitSource.com
Have you guys happened to have any recent complaints the past few months about the Morimoto XB 5500K HID bulbs giving a greenish/teal hue to them? I know quite a few people were complaining about that. I'm interested in these bulbs for my IS-F but not sure if they will give off that hue in my D4S setup.
We haven't heard any complaints about the color temperature in a while. When we did, it seemed to be primarily with the D2H and H11b bulbs. Since your Lexus takes a D4s bulb, you won't run into that issue at all!
They are extremely close to each other in both test tbh, way over the rest. So it can just be down to a different projector being used and quality variation in the manufacturing process.
Please share the distance at which the lux is checked. I am confused between xb2 and osram laser one, xb2 is of $140 and osram is of $109 on amazon. Will it be worthy to opt xv2.
I honestly believe something is really wrong here... I just find it hard to believe that CBB can be beaten by CBI and XB 5500k. I think the bulb might not sat correctly or bulb was defective. You had a video on Osram shootout and CBB was the winner, CBI was second to last. I demand a redo!

What is Philip's standard max lux? 1600? And xtreme v2 is 1680?
Hey Nathan, give us a call and we'd be happy to explain - 404-220-7940
Do Osram bulbs break in? Bought osram CCI 6200k but seem little yellowish warm white
All HID bulbs will have to break in.
What happened to the Osram CBH? I remember it was a top contender as well..
Its not longer available sorry.
What can you recommend for s 2008 s63 amg. I want to try to get as close as possible as newer models output in light and also color?
Send us an email to sales@Theretrofitsource.com and we will point you in the right direction! There are so many different options, I know we have something that'll work well for you.
How do Philips WHV2 compare in LUX to Philips XV2?

This video was filmed 3 years ago and we no longer have the data from that.
my car currently has 4300k d2s factory bulbs and I wanted to upgrade to pure white while keeping xenon, what is the best choice ? something 5000k and or 6000k ?
We'd recommend 5000K or 5500K for a true white color!
@@RetrofitSource what is the difference between osram cba vs. cbi ? they’re both rated 6000k. are they both pure white ?
There are led bulbs made for xenon. It's called led-xenon. It works with the fan. Is it appropriate to use this design in Xenon headlights?
Stick with HID if that is what your vehicle came with from factory!
why would you measure only Hotspot and not couple spots to make a graphic to show how the light is spread among surface?
some lights will have less in Hotspot and more to sides, some will be concentrated in Hotspot, but not light up the sides of the road...
your representation of these bulbs is very raw...
Thanks for commenting, and for the idea! We will see if we can incorporate that into our videos!
Better than leds?
They are brighter!
I'm really confused . On a another video between the Osram Laser vs the XV2 the Osram won ? But on this video the Phillips won.. are this a newer version of the XV2 ? And on your website you have the description as both beating each other ? .. up to this day on December 2021 what's the winner ??
The NBL!
I’ve been looking for XV2 and have found there are quite a few in the one bulb type which of the xv2’s are you using
Thanks

You should break in the bulb before testing them. HID bulb do improve after a few hours of run time. I was just reading about it, with picture proof, concerning the Philips XV2:
www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/761231-Tax-Day-Special-on-ALL-NEW-PHILIPS-X-tremeVision-Gen2-150-HID-Xenon-Bulbs
By the way, actual Kelvin rating for those Osram bulbs, from Osram’s own specs sheets (and not the BS “up to” written on the packages) are:
Ultra Life : 4100K
Original Classic: 4100K
Original: 4300K
Night Breaker Laser: 4600K
Cool Blue Intense: 4800K
Cool Blue Advance: 6000K
Cool Blue Boost: 6000K
And that makes a lot more sense!
For Philips:
Standard: 4200K
Longer Life: 4300K
Vision: 4400K
X-Treme Vision Gen2: 4800K
White Vision Gen2: 5000K
Very true! Breaking in the bulbs makes a bit of difference!
The housings are the main reason for the brightness increase!
Sorry, but I didn't get you. Do you mean whether a reflector or projector? I believe both H1 XV2 and D2S XV2 were tested on projectors so I still thinking about why there is a huge difference between them.
H1 are tested in a 2.5 inch projector, D2S is a 3 inch projector. This larger projector increases the light output.
Thanks a lot! Really appreciated.
Who does the song at the end of this video
That's a great question! I'm sure we found it on a no copyright playlist on youtube.
Now this is very strange:
- in another video you've put a similar comparison and Osram NBL was outperforming the Philips XV2, now you're saying that Philips > Osram
- same thing, in another video you've put the CBB outperforming the CBI, now you're saying that CBI > CBB
In other review seen, again Osram was outperforming the Philips on low beam but Philips outperformed Osram on high beam, but again, you've tested them on low beam not high beam, so why all these inconsistent results?
Their testing "methodology" is, to put it nicely, wrong.
That's a great question and before I give you the reasoning as to why discrepancies in tests like this can appear let me assure you that we did the test and reported 100% honstely what we've seen. There are no tricks being done to skew results. With that being said let me give you somethings to think about:
We did not do these tests in laboratory settings, but more of a real-world comparison.
@@RetrofitSource it's all meaningless. An actual test would involve more than one bulb, at the very least.
@@RetrofitSource I agree with the comment below yours. Can you do multiple bulbs of the same kind? For example, 3 of each and get an average lux reading for them.
im new to the hid scene. I noticed your video comparing the same bulbs but in d3s have half the lux rating? Whats up with that. Thanks
Some of these aftermarket D2S bulbs are significantly brighter than D3S.
Hello my friend, how can I get a adapter for the 2017 Dog Charger lens? Do you have the first website for online shopping, thank you?

@@RetrofitSource Your message via Facebook, my name is Hamza from Iraq
my Philips xv2 seem super yellow to me, almost like a glorified halogen. I wish I could get that brightness and intensity, but in a pure white form.
50w CBB will be your friend then 😉
It may take 20 hours or so for the lights to burn in and reach full brightness
I need a D1S bulb, which one should I choose?
These ones should do nicely for you. www.theretrofitsource.com/d1s-philips-85415xvc1-xtreme-vision-54797.html
No Mini H1 Led battle ?
You never know, We might!
Wonderfull Matt! I was search this test. So ı mean CBB more white than CBA?
Although the CBBs are rated higher, they did show in testing to be lower in color temperature than what Osram states they are!
@@RetrofitSource i saw your testing video. But CBB more white than CBA for my look?
That is correct, the CBB bulbs will be more white compared to the CBA bulbs! Shoot us an email if you have any other questions! Support@TheRetrofitSource.com
Approximately what does real kelvin mean? CBB and CBA?
Real Kalvin is just the Kalvin number that we came up with in testing, vs the Kalvin number that is listed with the product from the manufacturer.
Would these results be similar to the d4s size?
Similar, yes!
How far was the lux measured?
25ft
Dope... Thank you for doing this comparison.
Thanks for watching!
Will these results be the same with d4s bulbs ?
Yes! Very similar!
are the XV2 still the best?
Yes!
@@RetrofitSourceNice, thanks for the response
I'm confused, you tested a d2s Laser vs XV last year and the Laser won. Is this a new XV bulb?
With different test conditions, you'll get different test results.
TheRetrofitSource Inc what was different?
They are extremely close to each other in both test tbh, way over the rest. So it can just be down to a different projector being used and quality variation in the manufacturing process.
What about CBN?
We'll have to make a new testing video for that one!
Did you use a 35W ballast or 55W?
Thank you
We used a 35w ballast.
@@RetrofitSource Could you use a 50w with these same bulbs? What would it do to the lux(K), color and life?
Well crap I bought the night breaker with you all thinking it was the brightest.... I guess it is second best.
Todd N. didn’t watch video yet but some other sources claimed nightbreaker being the brightest.
Todd N. within the margin of error, in some test the NBL outperform the XV2. But the XV2 does have a nicer color with a clean 4800K.
They are all pretty close. Especially when you get them broken in. The environment does play a factor in this.
Comprate watt più potente e levate il colore alla lampadina con paglietta metallica
What ballast was used? 35W or 55W?
We used a 35w ballast for the tests.
The Morimoto xb 5500k I can’t find , I only Can find the xb 5000k
As of right now, we only have 5000K or 6000K available
What size bulb for the D2S????
For D2S applications, you will need a D2S bulb size! Let us know if you need anything else!
Damn good video!
Thanks for watching Diego!
Please share the distance at which the lux is checked. I am confused between xb2 and osram laser one, xb2 is of $140 and osram is of $109 on amazon. Will it be worthy to opt xv2.
No except if aesthetics matters to you. Then the Philips is a bit whiter.
Test results will always vary. Environmental factors play a huge part in the outcome of these.
Are these all 35watt
Yes they are.
I need 9005 & 9006 LED that preform as good if not better then 4500k 65w Osram silver-star halogen
That's a powerful light you are trying to replace. We would recommend an HID over LED in that case.
@@RetrofitSource i use them a lot while driving in the mountains so they get switched on and off up to 50 time per drive depending on traffic.
I know it'll be expensive but does such an LED exists?
We need a 2022 update so I can buy the brightest
Osram Nightbreaker Laser!
Do the morimotos still have a green hue problem? I been leaning towards Osram CBB on hylux 45 watt but of course I’d rather spend less money
That has been fixed for a long time!
Are the Philips XV2's still the best in 2021? I am running the Osram Lasers from 2018 on my Lexus LS430 and they seem less bright now. Some Acura pulled up next to me and was noticeably brighter with its LEDs.
Might be time for a refresh! The Night Breaker Laser will most likely still be the brightest in your OEM lights!
Remind me again: what's the point of the new wall if we're not going to do anything more with it? All the lines and stuff, is that just for show or do we actually know what that means?
There's measurements all along it.
@@RetrofitSource Then please give us the beam 'width' lux measurements as well.
D2s brighter than d3s?
It depends on the bulb and ballast combination for sure.
@@RetrofitSource A d2s HID ballast comparison would also be good.
Great idea! We’ll see what we can do.
