I'm going to try this! I like to paint my ladies nails for her and I watch your videos for all the help I can get! Lol. She seems impressed so far, so your tips must be working. Thanks!
Thanks for the 101 videos. I feel like I missed a lot of proper nail care tips since I've been a nail biter for so many years. I think my nails have only been nice since July, and long enough for art just recently. I'm grateful for all wisdom that helps my nails to be strong and healthy.
I just about died when you rubbed the Black nail polish into your cuticles & skin on purpose, for the video 😭😭😭 LOL *tysm for your sacrifice* 🙏 ;) I pretty much do exactly the same as you, except I use 'Soak & swipe manicure clips' on top of the cotton (in case anyone's wondering - mine are from Bliss kiss but you can get them on Amazon etc) they help trap a bit of body heat so I LOVE them for glitter polish too! I use dollarstore cotton pads/rounds & cut them into 5/6 pieces - you only need a little bit per nail! I can't believe I used to use those removal jars where you shove you polished nails into the sponge & twist?!! 🤣 I used to end up with polish alllll over me!! 💕
Great tip!! I usually use the "dip it jars" from target or CVS. The one with the sponge for creams and the one with the bristles for glitter, but I add olive oil or vitamin e oil (99 cent store) so it's not so drying on my nails! Tfs
Some people are sensitive to them. I'm not, so I may try them for tough stains on my nails. Honestly, though how did I live without those things?!? Removes grease varnish from my kitchen, soap/hard water spots from the bathroom, smudges from walls without taking the paint off and very little to throw away when they're all used up.
Keep in mind those work like a tiny tiny file or buffer! They are a melamine sponge and work because it's a teeny abrasive surface. That is why some people sometimes get redness or rashes from them, it's like rubbing a micro sand paper on your skin if you accidentally rub it on skin by using without gloves.
I do your removal method. I've been doing it for about a year and I would never go back. I find that it actually takes less time to get the polish off which allows more time for the fun part; the actual painting of the nails.
Kelli I admit I was so mesmerized by how beautiful you look that I was barely paying attention to what you were saying lol. You look gorgeous all the time, no doubt, but there’s something about the way you look in this video that was just so damn stunning 😆😁😉 Great video overall. Much luv 2 ya♥️😊😎
Thank you for that tip, Kelli! I have tried doing that same thing before, and even after letting it sit a long time, some polishes are still difficult to remove! I use the Cuccio base coat (you recommended that, and thank you because it's SO much better than the drugstore ones!) and the 7 second reactive top coat. I don't have a uv light, so I go hold my hands up to the sun-it works! I'm still occasionally having the issue I mentioned a while back, where the ENTIRE thing (base, color, topcoat) comes off my nails in 1 whole piece that looks like a press-on nail. I don't know why on earth that happens- but it seems when that doesn't happen, I cannot get the polish off without a fight no matter how long I wrap the nails. I'm feeling like a freak LOL! I am sorry that I ramble, but one more thing and that is: speaking of cuticle cuts... My hands have been excessively dry the last few days, and it's the worst around my fingernails. I have some diy cuticle oil- basically coconut oil, olive oil, and lemon juice. So... I didn't realize that some of the skin had actually cracked, but I sure learned in a hurry! No lie, the lemon juice stung worse than nail polish remover! So it's another situation I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place, because if I use the oil, it'll sting again, but if I don't, the skin will keep cracking. I've tried other things but that mix is the only thing my dry hands and nails like! I have had 4 hours of sleep in the last 4 days (I have sleeping disorders) & I am not even sure what all I just wrote! 🤷😸❤️❤️❤️

+Alucard Peach yikes! Have you tried using the mixture without lemon juice? One thing I love is a cuticle butter rather than oil - much easier for my skin to absorb. Either that or Vaseline/antibiotic ointment works surprisingly well for cuticles!

if you already enjoy photography, go for it!!! I've been a photographer for more than half my life now, my grandma bought me my first pro camera at 15. the more you learn, the more fun it becomes! it's also a great way to relieve some stress & anxiety for me.
Kelli Marissa when i was starting, and still now, i practice on myself. it's a great way to learn angles, for the rare occasion that you do get a model.
Great idea - I use a small plastic jar with a sponge soaked in polish remover inside the jar...you just put each finger in one at a time & twist...takes about 5 seconds each finger. I am from Australia, I buy it from Coles, it works a treat! Love your 101,s & swatch vids 👍🏻😍
I use the sponge-in-a-jar method. You just roll a kitchen sponge into a jar, soak it all with acetone/nail polish remover, and just dip your fingers into the rolls of the sponge. You twist it about for a couple seconds, and it's gone! Easy, no mess, and no garbage! Just change out the sponge after it gets too dirty (usually takes several manicures to get it really bad), and you're golden. I get my sponges from the dollar store, and my jar is one I had from an old cream I had used up. :)
I do this same thing. It started as a glitter removal thing with the foil. I just don’t even bother with the foil when I’m just removing regular polish. Btw, if you put some Vaseline (or similar product) on a cut before using the remover it doesn’t sting as much. Cuticle oil works too, but the thicker stuff like Vaseline is more effective I think.
Good idea about Vaseline or cuticle oil. If it's a pretty significant cut/injury, though, Crazy Glue is the answer. Why? Crazy Glue started out as *surgical glue* (fun fact!) and has been used for decades to help seal/heal open wounds. It doesn't have to be the Crazy Glue brand, too. Any kind of instant bond adhesive like it will serve the same purpose.
Sweet Trick ! Thanks for staring it! Kelli , I'm dying for nicelval nails that do NOT contain ANY acrylic .it. It is horribly ,horrible and takes about 3 -,4 weeks to clear up!!!
@@KelliMarissa Woh!!!! I'm free! This worked so good! I usually keep my nails on for a week because removal and application was always such a chore. I'm so excited for it to be easier! Thank you so much!
I use the same-ish method. I cut one cotton round into 10 pieces, (I also do one hand at a time) saturate in remover, then put those finger clips over top. I bought them for $1 on AliExpress. To do the final clean up, I use one non-lint cotton square, so there is no cotton debris left behind. Then I use the non-lint cotton square to wipe off brushes and do clean up of my next manicure, so there is no waste. Oh, and I use cheap drug store oil around the nail first to protect it from the remover. I don't find it impacts the remover and helps the polish not stick to skin and saves at least a little drying out!
Not really a groundbreaking tip but scrubbing your nails with a nail brush after helps get a lot of the left over polish off skin and cuticles. I wear a lot of dark and glitter polishes so this tip is awesome!!
i actually pour a little bit of nail polish remover (the kind without acetone) into a latex glove and distribute it over the fingertips of the glove and then i just wear the glove for a while, unorthodox i know but it works for me. it can be a little tricky to judge how much remover to pour in but i'm planning on getting some see-through gloves to help with that i'm not sure if this would work with acetone or if it would just degrade the latex but so far i can reuse a single glove multiple times
So do they not sell cotton makeup removal pads in the USA. One soaked in acetone will cover one hand, you hold all the nails together, so its 2 steps... the oval ones work best but the round are fine for short nails. They are just as cheap as cotton balls in Europe, im in North Europe.
Kelli I always enjoy your videos but could you do more polish reviews and Christmas themed ideas? I know its a bit early but I love Christmas and nails! I have followed your tips and advice and have to say they are excellent. Your videos are the best in category, and have watched many others, just wish you did more!
I use one of those little jars that you dip your finger into and move it up and down and side to side. It's got little plastic spines inside that really get into the edges of my nails. The one I use has pure acetone in it and I'll refill it as necessary. It's an updated version of those pots and used to have the sponge inside that you'd dip your finger into. I just can't stand the little bits of cotton balls that stick (ugh, kinda gags me a little just thinking about it lol) and it's also better because it's all contained. ✌❤💅
When I have a deep colour I wipe it out the usual way, and when I finish the nails, I grab one more cotton pad with acetone on it, and I wipe my stained fingers. The fingers are easier to clean than the nails, as they have just a thin layer of nail polish. It works really well.
Idk if you've mentioned it on a video before, but what is (was?) your job where you take product photos cos that sounds fun :) (Idk what direction I wanna go job-wise, so I'm trying to soak up any and all info and inspiration wherever I can 😄 )
I was working on the marketing team for a restaurant chain so I did a lot of our social media photography :) that's not really common on marketing teams though, usually companies hire a professional photographer!
I would love to know where you got your nail polish holder that is sitting behind you. I have TONS too that are just in plastic containers totally unorganized!!
Kelli - This is my first time on your channel - love your videos! Do you have a video that addresses vertical ridges in the nails? Mine are pretty deep. I have to wear a thick base coat to protect the nails from peeling when exposed to water, or breaking in day-to-day activities. When using a nail polish that has any real color intensity to it, my nails stain automatically because of the porous nature of the ridges. Can you point me to some hacks to address this issue, please? Thanks again.
Hey Donna! So happy you're enjoying my content! Unfortunately I don't know much about ridges since I haven't dealt with them personally. Have you talked to your doctor about it? It might seem silly, but a lot of weird nail issues can stem from your diet!
Thank you for replying. Yes, I've talked to my doctor, but already knew what their answer would be. It is likely diet-related, but how to find that out? It would take months before any dietary change would show up in the nails. Still - I do appreciate you taking the time to reply. You have a fun channel with entertaining & informative videos.
Okay first how did you get the cottonball to unravel! You're amazing! Second, that's an awesome way to get nail polish💅 off. I have to try it. I hate taking my polish off. It takes forever! You're a genius Kelli! I love you!!!! 😘🐶🐩🐕💀🎃👻💓🌼🏵🌻
I usually just get whatever drugstore brand is on sale (my personal preference is the strengthening nail polish remover with acetone) but lately I've been using the Zoya Remove+ and I love it!!
hehe I feel personally spoken to with this video (after my removal question on your previous vid) ;) So I've heard about this method before and tried it using cotton disks but maybe those don't work as well? (I've tried it with both remover containing acetone as well as acetone free one, and I soaked my nails FOREVER with both and it still took several tries. My nails were not happy afterwards! Super dry and even flaking :/ ) - I've never seen cotton balls in stores here, the disks are the most prevalent - but after a quick google just now I found that the balls are actually available too ^^ So I'll get some of those and retry the method :3 What's worked for me (to my own surprise) is one of those "tins" with a sponge inside saturated in remover and you move your finger around in that for a bit. Has the disadvantage of drying out the rest of your skin a bit more than putting something on just your nails would - but most of the time I don't even have to rub a lot and the polish comes off real fast! (with a bit more rubbing/soaking I even managed to remove glitter polish with it :O ) I really don't know why this would work well (it's even acetone free) and soaking (parts of) cotton disks with remover and leaving them on my nails (for a long time! no glitter!) doesn't... Maybe it's the sponge structure? PS: ok I might have had a revelation... WHAT ARE COTTON BALLS IN THE USA MADE OF? Cos I just noticed that cotton disks here are 100% cotton while the cotton balls (same brand) that I found are 100% viscose?? Is that the secret? :O (also why is it called cotton when it doesn't contain cotton... ;D Maybe viscose pads/balls doesn't have the same ring to it... ^^ )
+sídhe wen haha yes you inspired the video! :) and I’ve not used those cotton pads in years, but I remember they never worked so well for me. I use (100% cotton) cotton balls, haha! I hope you can try to find some - so odd those aren’t prevalent in your area!
I am way too lazy to do all that xD it sure seems efficient but i just buy the little pots that u put your fingers in to remove nail polish, and so far i dont get stains so 🤞
I have been using nail polish to remove nail polish! My nails have been so much better and I don't have to buy nail polish remover or acetone anymore or be scared of the drying effects or chemicals! I love it 💞
U have a lot of nail polish can u please give me some advice on a very good top brand name nail polish and please when u do ur video's can u show ur nail polish brand.
This is what I do too! I find most of the time, it only takes about 30 seconds for a typical creme polish to totally dissolve. In fact this is what I do with glitter polish too, and just wait longer. Who needs foil?
I have that problem with my nails as I usually rub off my polish...haha! Thanks for this tip; I will totally be using it the next time I paint my nails as it is great! :D
Was that a jumbo cotton ball or are your hands THAT tiny?? I have huge man hands 😂 The jumbo cotton balls look like the regular size when I hold them 😂😂 (latex type gloves I have to have XL’s) My skin is already ridiculously dry and I use a lot of pure acetone for clean up around my nails. I love Zoya’s remover (I think it’s amazing but expensive). I change my polish so often that I usually use a peel off base coat. I will definitely try this though. OH.. I don’t know if you already did one, but a video comparing different peel off base coats would be awesome! 👍🏻💕💅🏻😁🤘🏻
Michelle Nidharia it was likely just a staining polish that stained your nail. I do this and have much less staining in general than with the typical scrubbing method. Some polishes are just going to stain no matter what. What color was the polish that stained?
It was a Sally Hansen nail polish. I know some polishes do stain the nails no matter what, especially thye real dark ones and there are also methods of how to remove them without staining the nails. What Kelli showed was an awesome way to remove and yet not stain the nails.
I find putting some cuticle oil around the skin before doing this method also helps. Skin & nails aren't as dry after!
+Chanice De Freitas I love that tip!!!

I have a lil trick. To remove the red stain from my nails after red polish removal..I use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser..works like a charm:)
Some people are sensitive to them. I'm not, so I may try them for tough stains on my nails. Honestly, though how did I live without those things?!? KELLI CAN YOU USE THE FOIL TRICK ON REG NAIL POLISH LIKE YOU DO ON GEL POLISH?
+Teresa McCarty yes you can :)
How do you avoid stained cuticles with cleanup after doing a gradient?
Really wish I had watched this before taking off my nail polish... It's all underneath my nail. :(
Idk if you've mentioned it on a video before, but what is (was?) your job where you take product photos cos that sounds fun :)
(Idk what direction I wanna go job-wise, so I'm trying to soak up any and all info and inspiration wherever I can 😄 )
I was working on the marketing team for a restaurant chain so I did a lot of our social media photography :) that's not really common on marketing teams though, usually companies hire a professional photographer!
I would love to know where you got your nail polish holder that is sitting behind you. I have TONS too that are just in plastic containers totally unorganized!!
Clarissa Jackson I think her boyfriend made it.
+Clarissa Jackson yes, my BF made it for me! :)
I keep my polish in Ikea Helmer drawer units. Each one holds about 400-500 depending on the bottle shape.
Nail 101 videos are my favorite💜
+Nicole N I love doing them!! :)
I learn so much good stuff from you. Thanks Kelli!
+Penny Harms so happy to help, Penny!!
Penny Harms I do to!
Okay first how did you get the cottonball to unravel! You're amazing! Second, that's an awesome way to get nail polish💅 off. I have to try it. I hate taking my polish off. It takes forever! You're a genius Kelli! I love you!!!! 😘🐶🐩🐕💀🎃👻💓🌼🏵🌻
+RonneeSue Scott haha you gotta try it! Let me know how it goes!! Lots of love XOXOXOXO!!
Thank you, Kelli. Good tip. Love your videos.
+Feline LuvR so glad you found it helpful :)
Yey, I'm doing the same. I started doing it also after I tried the foil technique with glitters.
+Ulyana Petkova's nail art haha that’s how I started it too!!
Great tip! And I love your videos
+Joan Snow thanks Joan :)
Awesome! I am going to try this the next time I don't use a peel off. TFS!
+Lena Payne let me know how it goes :)
I use cotton pads they are so easy to use!
What brand of nail polish remover do you use?
I usually just get whatever drugstore brand is on sale (my personal preference is the strengthening nail polish remover with acetone) but lately I've been using the Zoya Remove+ and I love it!!
Great trick! Thanks!
Hey Kelli, nice eye look!
+Sabaa Ali Hafiz thank you so much :)
hehe I feel personally spoken to with this video (after my removal question on your previous vid) ;)
So I've heard about this method before and tried it using cotton disks but maybe those don't work as well? (I've tried it with both remover containing acetone as well as acetone free one, and I soaked my nails FOREVER with both and it still took several tries. My nails were not happy afterwards! Super dry and even flaking :/ )
- I've never seen cotton balls in stores here, the disks are the most prevalent - but after a quick google just now I found that the balls are actually available too ^^ So I'll get some of those and retry the method :3
What's worked for me (to my own surprise) is one of those "tins" with a sponge inside saturated in remover and you move your finger around in that for a bit. Has the disadvantage of drying out the rest of your skin a bit more than putting something on just your nails would - but most of the time I don't even have to rub a lot and the polish comes off real fast! (with a bit more rubbing/soaking I even managed to remove glitter polish with it :O )
I really don't know why this would work well (it's even acetone free) and soaking (parts of) cotton disks with remover and leaving them on my nails (for a long time! no glitter!) doesn't...
(also why is it called cotton when it doesn't contain cotton... ;D Maybe viscose pads/balls doesn't have the same ring to it... ^^ )
+sídhe wen haha yes you inspired the video! :) and I’ve not used those cotton pads in years, but I remember they never worked so well for me. I use (100% cotton) cotton balls, haha! I hope you can try to find some - so odd those aren’t prevalent in your area!
Dang girl! I've been doing this for awhile now! You're right it is awesome!!! Only way I remove it now.
+K11124 same! It’s just so much better than any other method!
Thank you for the awesome tip that worked so well
+Hang Nguyen yay glad it worked!!
I am way too lazy to do all that xD it sure seems efficient but i just buy the little pots that u put your fingers in to remove nail polish, and so far i dont get stains so 🤞
+KnightOfCydonia18 haha that’s a good method too!
I have been using nail polish to remove nail polish! My nails have been so much better and I don't have to buy nail polish remover or acetone anymore or be scared of the drying effects or chemicals! I love it 💞
I live in Chicago and it's like 40 degrees and windy and rainy.
+Hannah Bestler oh man that sounds pretty terrible haha!
It will be even worse when its super cold, windy and snowing. there is always so much snow. I am not a fan lol
Thanks for the great tip, don't know how I haven't seen your videos before??? new sub
Hey, welcome to my channel :) :)
My nails get oily and the nail polish just peels off after a week or so. I use Seche Vite's base and top coats.
Carime Gardner are you using a dehydrator before you polish, and a base coat?
Miss B yes I used a buffer to buff the ridges and then I apply the dehydrator on the middle of the nail and along the edges by the cuticle.
+Carime Gardner ooh yeah you should try dehydrator! It removes the excess oils from your nail plate.
U have a lot of nail polish can u please give me some advice on a very good top brand name nail polish and please when u do ur video's can u show ur nail polish brand.
+Caroline Boler hey Caroline, I almost always show the brand and have a link to purchase in the description! :) I love OPI brand!
Omg this is what I do!!! Super easy!!
+Michaela Coning I love it!
Love this trick definitely going to try it!!!!
+Virginiaaaxo let me know how it goes!
I tried it... but it kinda got messy... i got cotton everywhere
great tip, thanks!
+Kat Sorenson thanks Kat!
Will have to try this. tfs
+Joan Rodriguez let me know how it goes!!
This is what I do too! I find most of the time, it only takes about 30 seconds for a typical creme polish to totally dissolve. In fact this is what I do with glitter polish too, and just wait longer. Who needs foil?
+Jenn W haha that’s exactly how I feel too!
So helpful! Thank you
+Nelly Marquez happy you found it helpful Nelly!
Thank you so much for this technique! 😘
+TheNailArtZone happy to help!
I have that problem with my nails as I usually rub off my polish...haha! Thanks for this tip; I will totally be using it the next time I paint my nails as it is great! :D
+Frozen - Marvel oh you’re gonna love it!
👍🏻💕💅🏻😁🤘🏻
+Mrs K's Korner lol! It was a jumbo cotton ball! Those are all I use :P those tiny ones are useless IMO! And I like the peel off base coat idea :)
Trigger warning ⚠️ tearing cotton fibers xD great video! I just had to fast forward that part
It works!! Thanks!
Happy I could help!!
For dark colors, I use a peel off base coat underneath.
+Loya Frostwind smart idea!
I use one large oval makeup pad.
Cut it in half along the long side, then cut both halves in 5 pieces.
So one pad for all 10 fingers...
I'm so rough on my nails I never get the chance to remove it. It chips off! :(
+Kimberly Young oh no :(
Hi Kelli, I did try this method, but it stained my nail :(
Michelle Nidharia it was likely just a staining polish that stained your nail.
+Michelle Nidharia ahh Michelle! Which base coat do you use?? I’ve never had a polish stain my nails with base coat on!
Hi Kelli, I don't use a base coat. I have gel nails.
It doesn't work for me
It is cause.. like I let my nail polish stays for a month .. and it drys
It work so great.
+Sara Zarate :) :)
That is a great idea!!
+Amanda Verbeke thanks Amanda!!
