My hack is getting really angry, taking the polish off and redoing it, then smudging my other nails trying to clean that nail and having to completely redo everything, deciding I hate that colour now and doing something completely different, and that's why it takes me 2 hours to do my nails.
You should buy those dip and clean nail polish removers. Like the one with the sponge inside. You can easily clean one nail with it just by dipping it!
Ok, I had to stop at tip #1 because I officially feel validated with my choices in life. This is the ONLY way I know to fix my smudges and I have felt so weird doing this, but now I am so pleased to know that it is the "Kelli approved" way to do it! Thank you for helping me to feel like a more "sane" person. Alright...on to the rest of the video. (because I have some smudges that dried before I realized I made them and I need to figure out if there is anything I can do.)
mary vredeveld lmao! i actually got the wrong impression when I read your comment the first time. .. I guess it's because I paused after the word "bottom" & didn't realize the word "lip" was there! roflmfao!!!
I just want to say that your videos are by far the best nail videos on RUclips, in my opinion. Your vocal pace is perfect, your swatches are maddeningly perfect, and you are clear and succinct in your information delivery. I enjoy your videos just for fun sometimes. Thanks for making nail polish interesting.
WEIRDEST. THING. EVER. I just painted my nails about an hour or so ago and I bumped one of them on something. It was a small little chop in my pointer finger. My automatic response is to put my tongue on it, with some pressure, because your tongue is wet enough to glide and not smudge, and the pressure and warmth helps melt and smooth the polish back into place. I've been doing this my whole life. And I literally sat there thinking, "Am I a friggin' weirdo for doing this? Is there anyone else is the world that knows this works? Is there any ways people have talked about fixing this problem? Should I post this as some kind of helpful hint on RUclips somewhere in case I _am_ the only weirdo that does this?" I can't believe how coincidental this is.
+IRISHTRISH I'll tell you what really happened - I read your mind! Muhahaha! Just kidding, I'm so funny. But seriously, I wish I had explained it as eloquently as you instead of being like "your tongue is like a finger!" It's such a neat trick!
You literally have blown my mind! I was doing nail art the other day and smudged a bit, right as I was finishing. I got really frustrated and then remembered this video. I licked my finger and fixed it!!! Thank you so much, I can't believe it works but it does!! Xx
Oh my gosh! I just watched this video for the first time the other day. Doing a mani today and slightly smudged my index nail. Remembered what u said so I licked it. It worked! Very odd technique but it works great! Thank u! Love watching any and all ur videos! Ur doing a fabulous job! Keep posting/blogging.❤
I do the “lick test” all the time when I use traditional polish to make sure it’s perfectly dry before sealing it with a LED/UV TOP COAT,to make it last longer. If it tastes bitter it still needs more drying time. I do this only if I’m in a rush, otherwise I leave it till the next day before I top it with the LED/UV gel topcoat.I have so many trad polishes, so this way I get longer wear time with all my choices of colours and plus,LED/UV gels are far too expensive to have a wide gamma of colours! Great money saving tip 👍🏼
@@sharond4931 yes, you just need to give it enough time to fully dry or moisture can be trapped ok your nails. I think I read that you need at least 24 hrs for the regular polish to fully dry.
sharon MD if my hand or the weather is hot, I have bubbles. So I put my hands in cold water before polishing the nails and sometimes even after. Or you can put your hand on one of those gel bags you leave in the freezer while doing the nails. It helps too 😉
drisalvia thank you! I get crazy bubbles and I think it might be because I mixed two different base coats together as they ran out... but I will try the cold water thing and see if it helps!
I heard from a nail technician that bubbles occur because your nails are dirty so the polish clings onto the little particles! that's why they always clean your hands at salons, so dipping them in water should help!
ur a lifesaver! it’s 2 in the morning here and I painted my nails & I accidentally smudged it. I didn’t want to redo it since I was putting the nail polish in the container. I did the lick thing & the nail polish is now all smooth! thank you
Great tips, Kelli Marissa! I put a little dab of water or Vitamin E oil on my index finger, tap or gently press to smooth out the nail. I've tried the top coat and glitter ones too. They realy work. Gotta try that nail art trick. I never thought of that one. 😊
+Kelli Marissa Good to here from you. Hope all is well? Yes. It is one I keep in my nail arsenal. I cook a lot so my hands are in water constantly. It is also very good for moisturizing dry nails and cuticles, as well. It's also improved the health of my nails. Much love. Stay blessed my friend. 😊
Thank you for this!! you're a nail saver lol I love your jacket it's so cute! I bought sponges and I'm about to try my first gradient I may revisit an older video! thanks again for being so helpful!!
I could have done with using these techniques last night!! Thank you for putting these tips up I definitely need these!! Due to my condition my hands shake which makes application messy but I can always clean up its the twitching that annoys me most! I 'll have cleaned up my nail and it's looking real nice..... then my hand or fingers twitch and I hit the corner or edge of the table or I knock it into a cup etc the twitching pees me off!! So thank you Kelli I am positive these tips will help! and as always tfs hun xxx
Found this really useful . I have a habit of taking off the vanish and starting again if I smudge a nail . Will try these next time .💅🏻 I couldn't live without caffeine. If I don't have a coffee I get a headache ! So well done you for giving it up !
+Michelle Till oh man I'm way too lazy to start over a nail, haha! And I remember when I stopped drinking coffee I had headaches all the time! Glad that's over with lol
I really needed this video. My husband always gets to hear me brag about how I did the perfect mani, then twenty minutes later with a sad face say, "Damn it! I dented it!"
...I am sooo glad I'm not the only one who licks my nails to fix them 😂😂😂 I also don't drink a lot of caffeine. I never drank sodas as a kid and I never built up a tolerance, so even a little bit keeps me awake. That being said, I was born and raised in the south and I do love my sweet iced tea! But I try to only have it once or twice a week so that I can still sleep.
Depends on where I get it, but some of it is even too sweet for me. Some places I have to mix a little unsweet into it. I like it sweet, but I don't wanna drink tea-flavored sugar syrup.
Being a clutz in general with the impatience of waiting for my nails to dry...I really needed this video! So thank you! Also, now that the red isn't vibrant in your hair, I really think cool toned colors would look amazing on you!
I found your channel when I broke my nail and was procrastinating before I tried the team bag hack to fix it. But this video is the one that got me to subscribe. 😁 You're positive but not, well, daylight about things. And maybe a little tentative about some things, in an endearing way. I've always been the quirky one of the bunch, so I tend to like that vibe from people. I love it when someone can be into nails and self expression through other "girly' things like hair and makeup but not be a traditional girly girl about it. I'm happy I found your channel! Keep rocking.
+AmaraJordan haha I'm so happy you found me! And that you like my content :P my friends always laugh about how my hobby happens to be nail polish and makeup, since I'm really not a "girly girl" at all - you hit the nail on the head!
Can you try the hack of using micro fiber (car washer) towel to remove nail polish. It's to have a harder surface to push and scrub easer to get glitter off. Btw a bonus is no hair get stuck
Hi Kelli I just smudged 2 nails the other night. I bought 6 new polishes and trying my first one I smudged both pointer fingers. Again I love the polish 101 videos so pls keep them coming. 😀💅💅👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
+♥ LadyRayden ♥ they're both from OPI, the pink is from the new California Dreaming collection and the glitter is from the Hello Kitty collection! :) I hope that helps haha I don't remember the names!
Love you and your videos. I never drink caffeine either or soda but I have to totally agree with the ginger ale, it's always been a favorite since I was a child.
+Jackie Rosenfeld hey Jackie! It's called a dogging tool :) they usually sell them in packs of 5 - you can either find them in beauty supply stores or online! Personally I love to make my own dotting tools though - I love using the round end of a ball-point pen, or a toothpick! Which colors did you order? You're gonna love them :)
you got a hair cut looks sharp ✂ do you think you'll ever take your color all the way to the root? I always dye several inches away from my root bc I worry about hot roots.
+Taylor Manning ooh thanks so much Taylor! Since I go to the salon sooo infrequently, I know my roots would look awful haha so that's why I always get the color on far away!
Kelli, great video! I ,too, am caffeine-free..but honestly the caffeine didn't start affecting me till I hit my 40's- how weird is that? I used to be able to drink sweet tea before bed, or even coffee...and had nooo problems sleeping. Not anymore. No biggie. oh! and I love that inner eye corner pop of blue!!
+Diana Leon ahh thanks Diana! It's crazy how much it affects me now. I had a half-caff coffee yesterday because the shop ran out of decaf and I literally could not sleep last night!
Hi Kelli! Thanks for the tips! One more that works for me is quickly brushing cuticle oil on a smudge--works best on very freshly painted nails. Was wondering if you could tell me the name of the pretty pink creme polish you used in this video or the name of a shade close to it? Thanks!
Hello I just wanted to know a quick question where did you get that beautiful. Near polish Stan it's really pretty like the paintings behind you.. and I love your purple hair it's pretty to take care 👋
what do you use for top and base coats? i always pick my nail polish off because it just peels off. (also, you can find galaxy bed spreads/ bed sheets on Amazon!)
Great video thanks for these tips Kelli I'm gonna try them. Usually I fix smudged nails by dabbing a bit of nail polish remover on the nail and it works good too 😊😊😊
hey thanks. i literally just had this happen. i tappy-tappied it into place but i know that if it isn't smooth enough it'll show through another coat. anyway i waited on topcoat till i watched this and MAN!! licking the finger and doing a tap and then light sort of buffing motion damn near fixed it!! now if i do another layer i know i'll be all good. (7 years and still being a hero lol)
+Niki Stonestreet haha thanks Niki! I found it randomly in the clearance section of Kohls, I think it's activewear but it's so darn cute I can't stop wearing it!
Thanks for the great tips! I usually do the glitter top coat. I'm excited to try the licking thing, but at the same time, I really don't want to ding my nail just to try it. But I am that girl who paints her nails and then needs to open something or use my hands so I'm sure it'll come in useful sooner than I'd like.
Hi Kelly, your videos are spot on. Loved this video. Seriously, I always mess up after doing my nails. Good tips on how to fix them. Happy Weekend. Look forward to your videos. Cheers
I drank caffeinated soda yesterday because a friend had already bought it for me without telling me, so I wanted to be nice and I drank half of it but I just could not go to sleep!! My mind was awake till 3 AM and I had finals the next day!! I'm so glad to know you don't have caffeine too. No more caffeine for me 🙅🏻
I never thought of licking my nail! I usually use whatever my cleanest/least oily finger and softly buff it. I love the flower idea!! I'm super sensitive to caffeine! People don't realize it can make your sugar drop causing you to crave sweets and all that jazz too!
+MomNMe Beauty LOL. That's a fair statement. I feel like Van Gogh when I lick my own nail, I suffer for my art 😂😂 I'm glad you enjoyed the other tips though!
U are so gorgeous & funny lol 😊❤ I have severe Ocd (seriously I've been diagnosed) & my nails are something I obsess about. I just purchased a polish thinner bc most of my polishes have thickened. Thanks for the tips 😁
Oh thank you Cindy! I can relate to that struggle. It's hard when you start to obsess/do compulsive actions over something that is meant to be a de-stressing hobby. I'm happy to offer any small relief with my content!
Ok...so #4 and #5 are certainly new to me. I'll probably try those the next time I have a bad smudge for the cool factor. But I'm just wondering, how are those easier than just removing the polish when the smudge is that bad?
+islandgirl2111 well it's up to you if you have time to paint again - and sometimes that's the better option! But for me, doing one of these tricks is 1-2 coats of polish to wait to dry, but redoing the nail would be 4 coats to dry (base, two coats of polish, then top coat!) so I'm lazy and need a shortcut hahaha!
your hoodie is so cute! I don't drink caffeine either! and I don't drink soda either cuz I just don't like the taste. and so proud of you for being sober!
+KenzieHurlock hehe thanks! I got it on clearance at Kohls :P and yeah I think most soda is too sweet! But nice to have as a special treat every few months, I consider it like dessert haha!
I am such a problematic person when it comes to smooth nail polish application, Keli, can you please tell me how to get rid of a fingerprinty nail polish, even after letting it dry for hours, I put on a top coat but then also when around like it was 6 hours after applying polish I by mistake stabbed it or to be honest just touched it gently with my nail and it created a dent, do you have a solution for this issue
I am loving this nail polish 101 series...the smudge fix with the tongue is the one I use almost every time I do my nails...I am pretty clumsy...my fun fact I have to drink espresso every morning...I make it at home. Couldn't think about not having it...but I don't have all the awesome energy you do...bye❤️👋
+Alexandra Vicuna-Perry oh gosh if I had a coffee maker growing up I don't think I would have been able to stop at all! Especially for delicious drinks, I would never sleep!
Kelli. I found the best white nail polish! Better than. OPI Alpine Snow...And I have both... The new Sally Hansen/Crayola colab polish in "White". Just came out last week. 😍💅🎨
Your makeup looks amazing on you today!!! It always looks good but that blue in your inner corner brings your eyes closer to the center and makes a fabulous focal point. You're so pretty! Anyways, thanks for these ideas! They're very helpful for nails on the go :)
Top coat "fixes" so many mistakes. It's my first line of defense if the smudge isn't too bad. Another trick is to use a bit of acetone on a brush and a (very) light touch to "smooth" out the smudge, and then top coat will cover up the rest. This works best with solid color creams or jellies. Not so well with some other types of polishes, although some shimmers and holos can turn out well enough if you do it right. Fuggadabout it with chromatics and brushstrokey polishes. My other trick is a cousin of your nail arit track. I keep sheets of decals on hand for when I smudge but don't have time for fussing over a mistake. Slap one over the mistake, lacquer with a quick-dry top coat. Done.
I have never shared with anyone using the tongue technique. My mom taught me that one many years ago. Glad to know other people do it. And, yeah to the 101 series
My hack is getting really angry, taking the polish off and redoing it, then smudging my other nails trying to clean that nail and having to completely redo everything, deciding I hate that colour now and doing something completely different, and that's why it takes me 2 hours to do my nails.

girl me too
"Your tongue is like a finger, but it's wet..." I am now dying of laughter.

That is kind of ingenius actually!

since i do not like the taste of nail polish i just lick my bottom lip and smooth my nail against it

I do it too!! It works so well!!
spidermiss2426 That has saved me so many times lol!
Hahaha it's my favorite trick!!
Kelli Marissa Same :D
Me too! Totally works. I use my ring finger however because it applies the least amount of pressure.
Sometimes I put too many coats so even if it's been drying for a few minutes it still smudges
+Saleena Saini you should let your nails dry between layers :)
Ty bc I had the same problem and this works!❤
Haha. I loved the fun fact story at the end. I LOVE coffee and find that if I stop drinking before noon, it doesn’t affect my sleep.

you got a hair cut looks sharp ✂ do you think you'll ever take your color all the way to the root? I always dye several inches away from my root bc I worry about hot roots.
+Taylor Manning ooh thanks so much Taylor! Since I go to the salon sooo infrequently, I know my roots would look awful haha so that's why I always get the color on far away!
this is amazing timing, I'm about to do my nails!
+Brittany - Bookish Beauty hopefully you don't smudge them, haha!
OMFG!!! i've always licked my nail and my friends always called me crazy...kkkkkkk
+Mari Donato hahahah they just don't get it!!
Mari Donato i do that all the time and my parents think I’m crazy
I do the lick and fix thing all the time! Also in your second tip, what brand is that pink glitter top coat?! I need it in my life.
+FinalCutProbie haha I'm glad I'm not the only licker! It's from the OPI Hello Kitty collection, I love it too!
Hi Kelli! Thanks for the tips! One more that works for me is quickly brushing cuticle oil on a smudge--works best on very freshly painted nails. Was wondering if you could tell me the name of the pretty pink creme polish you used in this video or the name of a shade close to it? Thanks!
early squadddd where u attttt
YESSSS you rock!!
Hello I just wanted to know a quick question where did you get that beautiful. Near polish Stan it's really pretty like the paintings behind you.. and I love your purple hair it's pretty to take care 👋
+Candice Fandrei thanks Candice! My boyfriend actually built it for me :)
I lick my nail to fix smudges too!
LOL I'm glad I'm not the only one!
what do you use for top and base coats? i always pick my nail polish off because it just peels off. (also, you can find galaxy bed spreads/ bed sheets on Amazon!)
+Cay14 ooh thanks for the tip! I do change it up frequently but I love using Cuccio base and top coat lately :)
Kelli Marissa thanks so much!! and no problem. i saw the instagram post haha
I really tried, I give up bro 😂🤚🏽
Great video thanks for these tips Kelli I'm gonna try them. Usually I fix smudged nails by dabbing a bit of nail polish remover on the nail and it works good too 😊😊😊
+Kenita614 I love that idea, I'm gonna try it!
Why didn't I watch this sooner...
:P
hey thanks. i literally just had this happen. i tappy-tappied it into place but i know that if it isn't smooth enough it'll show through another coat. anyway i waited on topcoat till i watched this and MAN!! licking the finger and doing a tap and then light sort of buffing motion damn near fixed it!! now if i do another layer i know i'll be all good. (7 years and still being a hero lol)
Early :p
:)
WHAT IS THAT PINK GLITTER POLISH? Omg, it's so pretty! Also, I always use the lick tip--love these tips!
+Alexandra C haha! Glad you enjoyed! It's the pink glitter from the OPI Hello Kitty collection, but I forget the name!
What is that pink glitter polish you used? It's so pretty! Color and brand, please?
Also, what is the name and brand of the pink polish you used?
+Lauren Choy I'm sorry i don't remember :(
That's totally alright. I've watched enough of your videos that I think I figured it out! Thank you though!
I LOVE YOUR JACKET!!! Omg where did you get it???
+Niki Stonestreet haha thanks Niki! I found it randomly in the clearance section of Kohls, I think it's activewear but it's so darn cute I can't stop wearing it!
Thank you! Looks like I'll be searching for it
This video is so helpful!!!! Especially since I smudge my nails all the time....I can't wait to see more nail polish 101 videos!!!!
+jessica rooney thanks Jessica! I'm glad you're enjoying them so far :)
Loving the nail polish 101s. I would like a video or just advice on how to keep cuticles and area around the nail looking nice.
+Ruby508707 I love that idea!
Kelli Marissa I did find an older video of yours on this topic and it was great!
+Donna Marriott haha same I'm always so impatient!
Ok quick question Kelli, what is the pink polish that's in your nails during the clips?
+Sarah Loves hey Sarah! I don't remember the name but it's the pink from the new OPI California Dreaming collection, I hope that helps!
Kelli Marissa yes it does, I can figure it out by swatches. It's such a pretty bubblegum pink shade!
Hi Kelly, your videos are spot on. Loved this video. Seriously, I always mess up after doing my nails. Good tips on how to fix them. Happy Weekend. Look forward to your videos. Cheers
+Michelle Nidharia I'm so glad you found them helpful Michelle! 💜
Thank you for the tips!!!
You always look beautiful!!!
Have a nice weekend
+Sandra Padovan oh gosh thank you Sandra!!
Thanks for sharing this.. I love your hoodie. Where could I find this hoodie? I love your videos.💕
+Tonia Brown thanks so much Tonia! I got it from Kohls, in the clearance section :)
Where is your sweatshirt from???? It's so cute!
+Lindsay Nicole thanks! I got it on clearance at kohls!
+YeOldeCatWench really?! I didn't know that either! I'm glad I'm off the stuff!
Yeah, so..... I can't bring myself to put a polished nail onto my tongue! But the other tips are FANTASTIC!!!! Thanks, Kelli!
+MomNMe Beauty LOL. That's a fair statement. I feel like Van Gogh when I lick my own nail, I suffer for my art 😂😂 I'm glad you enjoyed the other tips though!
Love your posts. They are always so informative. Best nail channel on RUclips by far 💅.
+Elizabeth Smith haha Elizabeth you're too kind! 💜💜💜💜
If there was a product that could fix a nail polish ding, would you buy it? Or do you think top coat works well enough?
I feel like that would be a gimmicky product haha! Top coat or a glitter polish should work just fine!!
You’re so pretty! The purple ombré really suits you
Oh wow thank you so much!
Okay but what is that pink polish you have on the close ups! So cute!!!
+AprilKepner ooh I probably should know this LOL. It's from the new OPI California collection but I haven't familiarized myself with the names yet!!
I always use a combination of my tongue, licked lip or licked finger. Works like a charm! I like the tips about using nail art or glitter ✨❣️
+seven23july haha I'm glad people are on board with the licking! You gotta try the glitter method :P
This is the perfect video for me, I always smudge my nails. As always great video Kelli ♡♡♡
I hope you find it helpful, Karmen :)
your hoodie is so cute!
Kelli Marissa it's funny cuz when I go out to eat and rarely get soda I only drink a little. I love strawberry lemonade tho
Lovely Hun. I have to admit that I do the Finger in the mouth too! Sounds so weird but works a treat. TFS 🙋🏻💕
+Manisha M. Haha it really is the best trick!
That’s really cool fun fact btw; what is your favorite ginger-ale?
Especially for delicious drinks, I would never sleep!
huh I wasn't expecting the lick thing to work but it totally did!
Haha it's quite a trick!
Hahaha I've done the licking finger thing, or trying to smooth out with finger and top coat. I like the glitter one! Thanks for the tip!
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Omg u are so pretty!! I am watching ur nail polish 101 vids again and going crazy seeing ur make up and hair!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Oh gosh you are so sweet thank you!!
Kelli. I found the best white nail polish! Better than. OPI Alpine Snow...And I have both... The new Sally Hansen/Crayola colab polish in "White". Just came out last week. 😍💅🎨
+Erika S ooh I haven't heard of it! I'll have to look for it :)
What brand and color name is the the glitter nail polish you used in this video?
I think it was the OPI Hello Kitty collection but I don't remember the name, sorry!
not sure if you already made a video on this but what do i do when my nail peels? i try to let them grow but they crack 😕😬
+curly ceibeña hey! I do have a video about how to strengthen your nails, maybe that will help you? :)
Your makeup looks amazing on you today!!! It always looks good but that blue in your inner corner brings your eyes closer to the center and makes a fabulous focal point. You're so pretty! Anyways, thanks for these ideas! They're very helpful for nails on the go :)
Oh gosh thank you so much :)
I always have a smudged nail polish whenever I do my mani. 😂 Thanks for these smart tips!
+Salva Altea haha SAME, so frustrating! Glad I could help :)
That is the literally cutest jacket I have ever seen, does anyone know where she got it??
always ding my nails after I've applied nail polish. I take it off and start again. Can't wait to try these tips!
+MissCalaisBeauty it's so frustrating! I hope these help :)
sure is! ill let you know, when i decide to wear nail polish next.
Done.
just wondering what that pink glitter was?? it's gorg!!!
+jenny loeffler it's from the OPI Hello Kitty collection! :)
thank u so much kelli! :D
I have never shared with anyone using the tongue technique. My mom taught me that one many years ago. Glad to know other people do it. And, yeah to the 101 series
+Carol Klans-Cerda haha looks like the secrets out! Glad you enjoy the series so far, Carol :)
Really helpful video! Thanks for making it
(Also, completely unrelated but I love your hoodie)
+Lovely Pages haha thank you so much!
