OUR WORST FEARS IN BRAZILS JUNGLE - Van Life with Pets

  • WE'RE LEAVING THE VAN BEHIND! Time to head into the jungle for some hiking and camping! Of course the pets are coming along! How far is our little cat going to hike this time?
I wish it was a completely drama free camping trip but as soon as the sun goes down we are in for a ride! Stick around to see a couple of uninvited guests and mother nature taking her turn as well. It's a tough trip but we still love our little tent, of backpacks and our hiking buddies.
    See you Thursday!

I noticed that as well. They seemed to love advertising out. Both of them were peacefully sleeping during the rain and seemed to love the hike. Sorry things were not what you expected, but it was a great example of resilience. I love your content and especially with how much you love and consider your pets in all you do. I'm not as healthy these days (working on healing) and your videos are truly something I look forward to. Thank you for all the adventures (even the What Broke this week 😂) Blessings to you 4 🙏🏽🐾😊

There’s a lot of craziness going around. I’m sorry that things ended on a down note in Brazil 🇧🇷. I love you guys so much and it hurts to think that something like that could happen. Regarding “resource guarding” = super interesting how environmental factors create genetic changes. Those generational factors in Mexico street dogs likely created this phenomenon in Sombrita. Oh man, I wanted to make a comment so many times before this one was over😅
Spiders. Not my favorite thing that’s for sure and the crazy little possum/rat thing was hilarious. And of course it had to rain and I had to drip inside the tent and you had to hang your food up high the whole thing.😅
But that view when you reached that point was so spectacular.❤

VANDERSONS! Helluva hike! I think what you ran across was actually an opossum not a rat (as others have said). Graham has officially leveled up to "Outdoor Fiend!". SOMBRITA! The video of the little shadow getting bit by the rattler in Meh-Hee-Ko was honestly the first video I watched from you guys...many, many, many moons ago. I think that I subscribed later down the road (maybe Nicaragua, which is the second vid I watched from you guys...and one of my favorites) Crazy how time slips away. The production has increased 1000x from those daze. Star Trek? Is it Brave New Worlds? Crazy rain you endured. It can make it tough to sleep or continue trekking. For backpack tent - I went with a REI half dome 4 (think it was a 4 plus) for a four person when we backpacked. The weight is good (think it was around 6 or 7 pounds), had everything needed, and durable. If you want really light go ultralight backpacker and while they're super light (a poundish) you do have a payoff with loss of features. Most of those seemed more like a shelter and not actual tent. Cost is where it gets crazy. I didn't see an ROI from the high $$ to what was really needed.
I head to the big city in about an hour to go under the knife on my shoulder (this will be #6 since the MTB phuq up in December 2022) I'll drop a line elsewhere to you all elsewhere. Keep up the good work! Always my best to the four of you! CHEERS! 🍜🍺

We're so grateful to have you as a subscriber and to have shared so many incredible moments with you on our journey through South America.
We love Strange New Worlds! But I'm rewatching Voyager now, I love Janeway 💜
As for the rain, it was definitely a challenge, but it's all part of the adventure! And thanks for the tent recommendation. It sounds like a great option for backpacking.

I think the little guy at 18:42 is a marsupial called Cuíca-cauda-de-rato (Metachirus nudicaudatus), and you were wrong, there are dangerous animals in the Atlantic Rainforest: A mild-sized jaguar called Onça parda (Puma concolor) that looks like the North American mountain lion, a wild pig that attacks in packs, called 'Cateto' (Tayarsu Tacaju), and the monkey Bugio (Allouata Guariba Clamitans), that is more problematic than dangerous.
Not mentioning those you already know, like venomous snakes, f. ex. , the Cobra-coral (Micrurus corallinus), spiders, caterpillars, and the hematophagous bat.
And although that trail does not look hard at all, my congrats, you are brave.

    From Wikipedia:
The gray four-eyed opossum does not "play dead" like the North American Virginia opossum. Instead it is aggressive and fights with potential predators.[6] Some displays of aggression include opening the mouth wide and hissing loudly.[6] It is known to be "the fiercest fighter of the opossums".[6] The gray four-eyed opossum is a nocturnal animal but can be active during the day. Although it is terrestrial, it is very good at climbing and swimming.[6] It has agile and swift movements, and seems more alert than other didelphids.[6]

Hope that rodent didn't chew your packs. They love salty straps!
Ok. Survived that, but that slippery trail...ugh.

Hey PKM! Thanks for watching our latest adventure video and leaving a comment. As for that slippery trail, that was rough. It can be a real challenge, but it's all part of the adventure, right? Stay safe out there and keep adventuring! 🌍✨

As bad as this trip was its the one that will stick out forever because of the challenges you guy's faced. Just think the pet's did it with you without compaints.

I follow your adventure because I really like you. Sometimes, getting a wild title, "our worst fears" is like crying wolf and false. People follow you because you're doing a great job. Just highlight the cool things you're doing. :)

It's absolutely terrifying to see your cat without a collar, tags, and leash. Pet lovers can't relax and enjoy your videos. What are you thinking? 😳😡

Hey Mary! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I totally understand your concern, but let me assure you that Graham is actually an indoor cat and we only take him outside under supervision. We don't use a collar or leash because he's not comfortable with them and could get out of all the ones we tried. We prioritize his safety and well-being above all else. We always make sure he's in a safe environment when he explores outside (for example he was between us two hiking). We love our pets and would never put them in harm's way. I hope this clarifies things for you! 😊🐱
