  • @caseylockwood5512

    For those saying that when you do the same grooves on the same kit, it doesnt sound the same, I imagine this is the reason: Misha is probably mixing into a master bus setup, aka something Nolly calls a "top-down" approach. I would bet that he is using the same master bus setup from his other video on the Aggressive Rock kit titled "Misha Mansoor: OKW Aggressive Rock 'Modern Hardcore' Mix Walkthrough". I think its around 17:12 on that video, where he goes over the mix of the demo song. Try setting your master bus up like that and see if you get similar results.

      Well yeah, Misha is a ridiculously good mixer. Reduce the 200 range by a bit, up the 1.5k and 5k (or 7k for extra bright). Compress the signal even before EQ, and Technique. It's almost entirely technique tbh.

    • @LucasMastropasqua
      @LucasMastropasqua 3 года назад +1

      If you’re referring to the tone of the drums then it’s a combination of the stock velocity being changed, compression and eq. The best thing I ever did to my process is start using master bus compression and eq plugins and also on each track as a starting point. In this case he’s using smash and grab, but knowing how to use the plugins can make a huge difference. But yes this all falls under the blanket of Misha is an amazing mixer!

  • @RileyKestnerisactuallyladarius
    @RileyKestnerisactuallyladarius 3 года назад +1

    What is the maximum velocity value in the piano roll for Cubase? I write stuff out in Ableton and go by the tutorial Nolly did where I believe he stated 114-117 was a good threshold for chorus oriented drum grooves.

    One of my biggest problems is that using and playing to a metronome does not click in my head. No pun intended. However playing to a groove track seems to work since I can somewhat feel the rythm better.

    • @josuastangl7140
      @josuastangl7140 3 года назад +3

    • @neomaredi5922
      @neomaredi5922 3 года назад +2

      I think you see it more in context with a groove track. A metronome gives a better understanding of time and time complexity in writing. Check out a video by Michael League speaking about Time vs Groove and Feel. Personally I studied jazz at university and it's opposite for me :-D

    • @tylorkenniston1192
      @tylorkenniston1192 3 года назад +2

      Nothing wrong with that, guy. I use the click on when tracking but usually pick out grooves that I like first and track over them because I will play differently depending on the vibe of the groove. Used to have my drummer as my roommate so anytime I had an idea I wanted to work out we would jam it out in the practice space. Then you can swap out the grooves or re-work them to more fit the riff. It’s not a bad thing to use the grooves as jumping points, that’s why they’re there

    Awesome video as always, thanks a lot for doing this, it's so much inspiring and I'm learning a lot everytime. Just a question, I've seen you track through a radial j48 that you use for routing purposes, do you think that it benefits the signal more than plugging directly into a interface? provided it's a good quality one. I think it's a good sounding unit for what I've read, but I don't know if it's worth the money compared to a regualar interface

    • @marcosandron6081
      @marcosandron6081 Год назад

      The drums are obviously post processed, none of the presets sounds as near as this one in the video. You need to multi out and post processing any single piece of the kit. So that means that you need a little bit of knowledge. If you are only focused on the writing process you can easily throw one of the preset in stereo and start writing riffs using the loops as starting point.
