I would say one of the biggest things to help anyone with drum sound… nobody really says it outright but…distortion. It is used on drums. It’s pretty lightly and it is meticulously catered to each drum… and people just refer to it as “saturation” and in logic “exciter”… and other things… but it’s light distortion. Generally just don’t distort the whole kit… and don’t distort hard nor on the low end really. But it can really really help cymbals and snares that need some power and clarity. Also if you need some slosh or voice or character in your kick… use a touch of it in your high mids and you will pull out some voice. Sometimes using really light distortion after reverb will help (or hurt) the character as well. Experiment. It’s important. Plenty of people would immediately be adverse to the idea of “distortion” on drums. But any good sounding record… it’s almost certainly there to some degree. Even if it’s simply from analogue saturation… that’s essentially just light distortion. Don’t be afraid of it. But just learn what’s appropriate and what works for your own sound. I like cymbals… especially hats that have a meanness in the 8khz area. I would never get it without a touch of saturation.

Awesome as always! Just a question guys: did you ever think to make a full in-depth course about mixing metal? You know, there are lot of guys out there (like me) who want to produce their own material, and of course, they want to follow trusted professional figures like you. I imagine a course with all the mixing choices explained as well as the entire worflow. It would be reeeeally great!
That's great! Just a question, Nolly: you mix using the top-down approach, perfect. So, why did you start the drum processing from the individual tracks instead of the drums bus?
The way I understand it is his top down approach does what a mastering engineer would do so it's more about the entire mix. Plus a top down mix approach to the drum bus is gonna be super tough with the range of sounds you get out of a kit, so it makes more sense to dive into the individual tracks and shape from there. I personally only have a bus compressor on my drum bus, nothing else.
Using the Invasion Kit in Logic and for the life of me can't find that particular MIDI window; The standard one seems to only let me type in 8th notes; The one featured here is much more detailed. Any help? Thanks!

P5 mixing masterclass when?🥺
on yhe end sounds massive , perfect ;)
I understand that this is a GGD masterclass, but how can I get the midi file to work with Superior Drummer? There are three midi files and none of them seems to be a proper drums track.
There is actually a full lesson from nolly on Nail the Mix working on prayer position from scratch
I m not able to download the stems.....The link doesnt work?
This guy has Dark Souls in his Last name.Beast.
Is there any drum reverb processing done?
The download link to get the free stems isn’t on there anymore. Can anyone hook it up??
I found it in an email from GGD. Might check there?
this is amazing. What if I don’t have fabfilter pro eq, can I use any other eq and just copy the curve?
Stock Logic and Cubase plugins are actually really good
Wow, thank you for all this.
anyone able to get the midi to line up in reaper?
Did you ever solve this issue? It's driving me nuts.
Nope. I gave up in the end lol.
Using the Invasion Kit in Logic and for the life of me can't find that particular MIDI window; The standard one seems to only let me type in 8th notes; The one featured here is much more detailed. Any help? Thanks!
