  • Today I’m taking a quick trip down memory lane and painting a baby deer (fawn) in a loose style that is easy to do. You can download a drawing of this deer from our website here: dianeantone.com/product/fawn-... which will make it easier for you to paint him.
    Hope you enjoy this video!
THIS PAINTING of an adorable baby deer can be done successfully using colours which are in every standard paintbox like this one amzn.to/3VSZ56D plus white gouache: amzn.to/3L9uc93
These are the colours you need:
    - Burnt Sienna
    - Burnt Umber
    - Black
    - Ultramarine Blue
    - Cadmium Yellow
Or if you wanted to use the colours I used they were:
    - Burnt Sienna
    - Van Dyke Brown and Sepia
    - Black
    - Olive Green
    - Ultramarine Blue
    - Quinacridone Gold or Cadmium Yellow
The end result would not be very different.
    00:00 Setup and materials
    01:11 Starting with the eyes
01:25 Painting the first layer of the fawn
09:49 Adding a second layer of color to the body
    14:04 Adding a simple background

So very sweet. Beautiful face. We have deer on our acreage. Four years ago when we first bought our acreage, a set of twin fawns wandered into our yard while we were sitting there. We often found sleeping patterns in our grass where mamma might have lain. They do visit at night and nibble on low bushes. Last year, they ate my squash that I had grown in an unprotected wood tub. They waited until the squash was read to harvest. Smart animals. Again, your little fawn is darling. Thank you. ❤

Thanks so much for sharing that lovely story Connie! Sorry about your squash - and we complain about the birds eating our vegetables - you have a much better problem!!

Wow...this baby deer is precious! I love how you started with the eyes because it really brings it to life and putting the eyes in first makes me less likely to give it up if my painting isn't going as planned and more likely to stay with it. I see those little eyes staring at me saying, "You can't leave me unfinished." haha. I love the ease in which you painted this. So relaxing. How cute with this as a holiday card with a little wreath necklace! I love this so much!

I do hope to be able to paint like you Diane, one day! That's beautiful😍 I'm amazed so many of the commenters have deer come into their yard😍 My Grandson has a fallow fawn named Dawn. We all have a good bond with her and she doesn't forget me between visits to the farm, I guess because I was the one that got her on the bottle at 2 days old. And oh! the cute noises she makes when drinking her bottle 🥰 They're such beautiful creatures❤️ Amazingly Dawn always smells lovely - like tussocks on a hot day yet she's not running on the tussock country yet.

Hi Diane. Great tutorial. Love the fawn.
This is the type of video I really like to watch. Complete without being too long, but not a short! I personally do not care for the shorts. Thanks for posting this one.

      @DianeAntoneStudio  10 дней назад

Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it. Re the shorts, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but we have to play RUclips’s game, and one of the rules is, you better post shorts or else we won’t show your videos to anyone!!!! Thanks for your support, there are always at least 3 full length videos each week from me, and sometimes, like this week, there will be six full videos. Enjoy!

Thanks Diane. I watch the shorts because you have interesting topics and creations. But I miss you explaining what you are doing and talking about life in general. So I really do appreciate the full length videos. 8-) Dawn

Love your little fawn! What type of deer is this? I am in Georgia, USA. Here we have white tailed deer. Coloration is a little different.
