Dealership told my wife they were going to charge her $600 to fix the "service shifter" issue on her vehicle. Watched this video, bought the part and replaced it myself. A year later, still no issues, all thanks to this video. Much appreciated!
Thanks for watching my friend. Please remember to thumbs up the video, thanks
What is the part called?
@@DulverMelo It's called a shifter bezel. They come in two colors: the part number for the silver one is 5YD27XSAAA, while the copper one is 5YD27LS5AA. I only changed the bezel, not the wire; haven't had any issues since.
What was the cost of the part? Did you order online or from the dealership?
@@WhhooppTdoo I ordered it online nearly 2 years ago from EastCoastMoparts, it was around $60 back then. Nowadays it runs for about $90.
This guy helping all the guys with a worried wife. You the best, my guy.
Great video! I watch all of them! This is actually a repairable part. If you open it up, the module is simply a small circuit board. The connector is soldered onto the board. One side of the soldered on connector, all or some of the solder joints are broken. Simply re-solder the connections and reassemble and reinstall. You will have saved yourself a bunch of money.
Makes perfect sense if you dealing with your own car or close friends. Customers always get it replaced imo.
Had this exact issue on my 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trail hawk. Had the same code as well. Bought the bezel off of Mopar and changed it fairly quickly my self and haven’t had any issues since then!
I'm currently dealing with this issue on my 2018 Jeep and I'm so glad I found your video! Thanks for the quick tip!
Thanks for watching, please like the video and subscribe to the channel for me, thanks

Thank you for this video, i honestly thought my wife was making things up lol every time i drove her jeep it was fine into one day i seen it but thank you.
I took it to our dealership and said it was a bad transmission and was costing me $1200 to fix it, they charged me 150 to look at it.
I spent 90 on the part and took me 10 minutes.
I just had to do this. Everything went pretty smooth. The thing that will take the longest, is plugging the new harness back into the shifter assembly. That thing is buried down at the bottom with only a couple inches to fit your hand through. Everything had to be by feel, not sight. Took about a half hour before I was lucky enough to find the plug-in hole and insert the pin connector. Still, costed less than a dealership....except my wits.
Checked dealer and got 2 prices for the fix , $600 for the bezel, or $1000 to replace the bezel and shift mechanism. Purchased a Dorman replacement for $83.⁰⁰, took about 2 minutes to install. Can't wait to comment in a few months and see if it's still working.
Good video , well done . No unnecessary info , simple , helpful and straightforward .
Dude! You should be smiling in the opening scene, after all, you're a hero to many! We just started to get the same message on our 2017 Trailhawk. I'm suspecting it's a connection issue, more than a complete module failure - so... I'm going to pull the shifter bezel as you cleverly shared, remove the wire harness and then spray CRC contact cleaner and lubricant into the sockets and the plugs, then push them on /take off/push on. I'll post is it seems to solve the issue! I seen too many molex/other connectors where dirt, air corrosion, etc. simply create faults that are seen as failures by a controlling module - wish me luck!
What happened?
Did it work?
Thank you so much for this video. You have help me saved sending a ton money on unnecessary repairs at the dealership.
Thanks for watching bud. I hope you thumbs up the video and subscribed to the channel for me,thanks.
Thanx so much! I just got this on my 2017. Man, you saved me a lot of money and down time!!!! I Rock!
Amazon has it for 60$ and Mopar is 140$ who do I get it from ???? Amazon has different color bezels too and it comes with the wire harness as well of course but for 60$? Compared to Mopar plain color 140$. Any help on choosing or is it just dealers choice
Thank you! It took me a bit to get my hand down in the shifter box to plug the bezel in, but this fixed the service shifter error light in my 2017 cherokee trailhawk. Awesome!

Thank You just bought a 2017 Jeep Cherokee light came on first week. Jeep dealer acted like this is a new thing as usual. I know the bezel just lifts off I assume the console part just lifts off also to get your hand in there.
lol, yes. Thanks for watching bud
My wife's 2017 has this issue. I'm curious, if the issue is the module under the bezel, why did you need to replace the wiring? I'm just making sure that I understand what all I need to buy.
As explained in the video, you need both parts
Check engine post repair🤔
So I replaced it myself at 10am only drove to work (20mins) at 5p,
Autostart shut off after 1min 11p
Knew I had a check engine that I didn’t even prior to my ‘service shifter’-that did go away after repair am I missing a step? Or Just my kinda luck lol

So happy I found this video. Just got the parts and did this for my 2014 Cherokee. All is good so far. THANK YOU!!! Very helpful!
Thank you so much. You saved me about $200, and I was able to switch out the new harness and bezel in less than 15-minutes.

My 2018 Jeep Limited's "service shifter" light came on today first time. I turned off car a few minutes and it went off. If it comes on again, will this fix work on my 2018 as well?
What kind of Jeep? Cherokee? Grand Cherokee? Also are you subscribed to the channel?
I’m having this problem with my 2017 Jeep Cherokee. It’s currently at the Jeep dealership and their replacing the bezel and wiring. Do you think once fixed I will have this issue again?
How much they charge you for that
I had my entire shifter, with the bezel replaced at the dealership while it was still under warranty. A few months later, the problem came right back.
Hi I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude with intermittent Service Shifter Light on and light on by shifter at the same time. Turned off Jeep and all went back to normal. My question is - in your video for the fixing this problem you state that on mid year build 2015 - 2018 years replacing the bezel and harness would fix the problem. My jeep was built in June 2015 would that be bezel harness fix or complete shifter.
Hello my friend. This repair applies to vehicles built on or before December 15, 2017. So yes, your model should fall into that. Thanks for watching. Please thumbs up the video and subscribe to the channel, thanks

Hey I have a 2016 jeep Cherokee latitude and so tired of this message popping up, could I get the part numbers to order and do myself? Liked and subscribed!! It’s a bronzeish color

How long was you driving it till the repair
About a year and a half. when it first popped up I took it to a dealer, who told me what it is and how it’s just the wires under the bezel, then I moved before getting it fixed so it’s just been there. researched off what the dealership told me and found this video but never did anything about it…Now I’m just tired of the message so ordering it to change it.
I definitely wouldn’t listen to me and go that long but it’s never affected me driving or using the gear shifter. & I just got a all around check & tune up and he said it’s still the wires everything else is good.
I have the same color as yours. Same 2017 Cherokee too. Any info on price and where I can get it? Did the service shifter notification disappear?
Yes it disappears if this ya problem. Did you have the same codes? Also are you subscribed to the channel?

If it's the module, then why replace the wiring too? Getting your hand down there and plugging it in seems like a lot of trouble. This notice has happened 2 time in the last month with 61K miles. I restarted the engine and it reset.

Like wise here. I needed to see this video for my 2017, thanks. This issue should have a recall attached...This is way to common and the 2016 has the same problem.
Yes, I semi agree. But keep in mind, Recall are issued for emergency purposes only. The thinking with FCA is you can still drive the car without any risk to your safety if this problem arise. Thanks for watching. Please thumbs up the video and subscribe to the channel, thanks
@@OnlineMechanicTips Having this issue with my wife's 2018 Cherokee and I can confirm that it's a significant safety issue. Her vehicle went from simply displaying "service shifter" to stalling and going haywire while on the interstate. It needs to be recalled for sure.
The same issue persists even after the shifter bezel & wiring have been replaced since oct 2023. Any idea of what causes this issue?

I'm getting a P1C86-1D code on my 2016 Jeep Cherokee Limited with a 6-cylinder engine. Can you advise on what I need to repair or replace? Additionally, I'm seeing U0420-00 and C14A7-97 codes, and my vehicle is displaying "Service Shifter" and "4WD Not Available" messages.
For context, I mainly use my Cherokee for daily city driving, with occasional trips on country mountain roads for sightseeing. I don’t do off-roading or drive in challenging conditions like mud or sand. Sometimes I drive through semi-high water if it rained heavily, but I proceed slowly, and the water isn’t deep. Regular sedans manage these areas without issues. I don’t tow anything, but I might carry large items, like furniture, that fit in the cargo area. Any help and part numbers would be appreciated.
