Funny, it's called extreme green yet it's red. I am thinking of buying a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 Hemi with the service 4x4 light on. I looked up some stuff here and there in some jeep forums and apparently there is a N23 recall dealing with that issue. It's from not using the 4 wheel drive and that button gets stuck. I had heard also that pulling the e-diff fuse under the hood, driving around for about 10 minutes then replacing the fuse will shut off the light. I figure I could hummmm and hrmmmm him into thinking I might need to replace the transfer case or something scary and get 1500 off or something. heh heh heh Great vid as usual my friend.

I am confused … Was the problem the actuator, or was it the selector switch in the dash that was actually the problem ???. it sounded like you said that you probably didn't even have to change the actuator. (or were you meaning that the problem was some type of relay switch within the actuator ?).
I know its an old comment but his actuator worked but when he put it in 2 wheek drive the transfer case stayed in 4 wheel drive- it was common on older 4x4 vehicles as the gears would be loaded together- it was common practice to stop put in 2 wheek drive back up slightly and then KNOW you were out of the 4 wheek drive mode as driving on pavement is generally tough on the transfer case( the tires dont all slpin ar the same rate look up differential creation on youtube theres an old gm video from like the 40s that explains this)
My grand Cherokee 2013 had the same issue and the solution was as simple as just update the software with the latest version. Now it feels like brand new and more power
I got a charger awd and once the transfer case control module died which is involved in talking to the axle actuator, i just wired a switch to the actuator directly, it just needs constant gnd and 12v ignition then one pin is for a ground engaged for awd on and remove for off, another pin is feedback to tell if engaged i guess.

It could be for sure, but it was a hot mess on the ground too. As I said the light would come on and stay on and the 4wd would be supper intermittent and not come on at all that last day. I was positive something snapped, but never found the proof.
I thought the 4WD was made in to the transmission but I guess this one has a 4WD mechanism motor with that piston coming out and going into the transmission and pushing that cluch inside to make all the weels move to 4WD
"Selectable" or "on the fly" is usually an electro-mechanical switchable device, whereas "locking hubs" are usually manually operated twist actuators that engage 4x4. Not every 4x4 vehicle uses a transfer case. Most AWD setups are transmission based, without any outside 3rd unit.
Lets clear this up a little. If you have a front wheel drive that has a 4WD option, then you *might* not have an external transfer case. If you have a RWD 4WD, then you have to have an external transfer case. That being said, even when it's bolted directly to the transmission, I've never not seen a transfer case on an AWD/4WD vehicle. Please provide an example of a 4WD without a transfer case.
Shifting from 2wd and 4wd high (which is all this has) while the front and read wheels are going the same speed it's okay. On the lift you should be stopped regardless of neutral or not. It's more about gear and driveshaft speeds than anything.

*@**4:15* Evidently not, because if it were- it theoretically wouldn't jam? NPG is 50 miles from my house. It's part of the old Carrier factory that nearly killed the area when it all went to Mexico and China. Powdered gears are such hyped garbage, cheap excuse. Notice- every dab of worthless grease isn't even where it should be? Mass Slave labor produced junk. What a shame.
@briansmobile1. This 2010 Patriot I have, the 4WD! light would come on right around the 1-Mile at every startup. However today, I hit a chuckhole sorta hard & when I got home, [4 miles] the light still didn't come on. Although I've fixed 2 grounding pigtails under the hood in the engine compartment, there still must be a bad ground somewhere else. Gee these Patriots with their cheap wiring, poor engineering and not being made for the rust belt states sorta sucks... I've managed ti fix all the other warning lights that were staying on, just this one light left... Have you ever heard of this issue before, or dealt with it? Thx, good video too..
You don't know much do ya? ALL automakers use the very same parts suppliers and to save costs even the very same parts. The NV transfer case is used by many manufacturers. If you have a RWD 4WD, then you have to have an external transfer case. That being said, even when it's bolted directly to the transmission, I've never not seen a transfer case on an AWD/4WD vehicle. Please provide an example of a 4WD without a transfer case.
Need to shift to neutral to go outta 4wd.
don't you have to be in neutral when engaging and disengaging 4wd
Shifting from 2wd and 4wd high (which is all this has) while the front and read wheels are going the same speed it's okay. On the lift you should be stopped regardless of neutral or not. It's more about gear and driveshaft speeds than anything.
Only when going to 4 low
Mine needs to be in reverse or it won't shift
Edit: for 4low that is
Thanks for sticking your finger in there...I was scared to see someone loose there finger
Hi there, I have a 2011 liberty and my serv 4wh light stays on all the time and my selection switch feels weak. I’m asking where should I attack first. Please someone please help
Zac Sent me here so Hi!
Hey Hans! Welcome!
What a shame.
wow
Damn I’d never stick my finger in something that’s moving or on.
cause youre ignorant
I did some testing first. That's actually smart. Machines give a better 1" punch than most any ninja can.
Make a video with my 06 Jeep Commander 5.7hemi how to fix 4wd service.. xD
Jeep has a software fix for that problem. Take it to a dealer and have them do the software upgrade for free.
I’m stuck in 4 wheel drive
Geez that’s a .50cent Chinese motor inside there. Ugh too complicated
I wish. It's from the Philippines and it costs about $400.
briansmobile1 damn... is there a mechanical convention for something like an e brake to pull it in?
Didnt your mom ever tell you not to put your finger in holes in case it gets stuck?
Cheaply made yet expensive Chrysler crap parts. That’s ridiculous
'06 town'n'country sheet metal (+) battery terminal, 2 piece, only cost $40. That's not bad : )
You don't know much do ya? ALL automakers use the very same parts suppliers and to save costs even the very same parts. The NV transfer case is used by many manufacturers. NV..New Venture used to be called New Process which made A833 Hemi 4 speeds...unbreakable! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Venture_Gear
Dang it! Sorry to hear you had to spend the $400.
Thanks- it was worth it to get it going and reliable anyway.
Mecano motor that switches from 2wd to 4wd 😬
That piece was $400.00 - I figured about $150 to to $200 - way off
You and me both!
I have my car 2014 Chrysler 300 when i drive show me service all wheel drive
Go to the junkyard
Mecanico
Why is he touching it with dirty gloves
Beep
Guy knows nothing about transfer cases and posts a repair video of him just spraying lubricant all over the pin as the fix lmao 😂
Watch this for a laugh not for advice on repairing your vehicle.
Make a video then
Thank you
Mecanico
