The Citizen C-7 was originally introduced into the Far East market due to its popularity in the past. Now that its been introduced in Europe and the States there seems to be more reviews. This watch has a real history and another option to the Bambino.
Much better than a Bambino. I'd see it as a half price Seiko Cocktail alternative. Comparable dimensions, very reflective domed mineral crystal, and most of the fun is in the dial. I have both although they are simular. The Cocktail is twice the watch tbh, made in JPN and 4r winds both ways instead of 1 way on the C7. The c7 really only wins in case finishing, by quite a distance. But that's because they made it in China instead of Japan, just cheaper to achieve this finishing level.
That day window is very retro and Iove it. Most of my watches are vintage. In a stroke of luck my wife caught me watching a video of this watch (Jody’s) and said it was a nice looking watch, and could she buy it for me for Christmas. Well yes!!!! I selected your blue dial version and incredibly found it on a Black Friday sale with leather strap from an authorised online Citizen seller for A$142 (around US$100). Christmas can’t come soon enough. Thoroughly enjoyed your video - thank you.
I bought this model with a green dial and a brown leather strap. Kind of serves as a replacement for a watch that got stolen out of one my shoes while i was swimming in a river,in the summer of '87. It was just two weeks before i left my homecountry Romania for good. My mother,my brother and me had been given permission to leave, our country still being a communistic dictatory by that time, after my father managed to escape two years prior. That watch that someone stole on a riverbank out of my shoe in Caransebeṣ,37 years ago,is one that i would have loved to have in my watch collection for it was my first watch ever. My mother gifted it to me when i was eight years of age. It was a bulgarian one with a dark green dial, black leather strap and a handwinding movement. This beautiful Citizen timepiece almost had me forget that loss, being way more beautiful than the one mentioned. Just cannot take my eyes off of that amazing green dial. Hearty greetings from Germany Ronald Oprea
GLORIOUSLY SPECTACULAR, this watch. You used "spectacular", and that's a perfect adjective to describe this piece. Now, I'm off to find one. 😁 Excellent review, 3HH!
A camera does not do that Dial justice. It looks soooo good in person and the sunburst effect is completely different when you actually have it infront of you.
Thanks for that very very informative yet down to earth approach to the watch and more over, the aproach to the feeling we all share as watch lovers. I am a watch enthusiast that enjoy al these "pieces of beauty" keeping to my budget. I just order this watch on ebay and am eager waiting for it. Also, like you, i am not a bracelet guy, rather, a leather band one.
I have a select few Citizen watches, which are the eco drive super titanium models, I just love the tech in them. Now that I've seen this, I've been wanting to get an automatic, but didn't want to spend too much, this model hits the sweet spot for me and will definitely pick one up. Thanks for sharing!! BTW, love the red shirt......!!
I found that an amazing complement to a watch you like is a great band. And, as watch learning is important, knowing how to choose a great band is as importan (on more so) since that look may change (for better) the appearance and taste for the watch.
beautiful watch, I have it too, but I have the one with the red dial (nh8390-11x) and I also changed the strap that came with it because it was nothing special. the watch is awesome anyway. just think that 12 different colors of the C7 were produced, divided into 4 families of 3 each. some of these are easier to find, others very difficult.
@threehandhunter yes because some if not most of the models were released only for the Asian market, including mine with the red dial which i actually had a huge stroke of luck in finding.
I like the watch and like the price. I understand the history but that day complication is a deal-breaker for me. Really like almost everything else about it.
I like the look of this- the BV1120 series from Citizen is also great, for those who like solar-quartz. I couldn't believe the domed crystal was sapphire for such a low price, but I guess Citizen has found a way to profit and still give us some great deals.
Probably a good alternative to Seiko SARB033/SARB035 with a lower tier movement. Anyway this watch seems balanced and in fact I would have avoided the display case back to lower the price, the movement and its finish being really basic to be polite. Had 2 cocktail time, a SARB035, and while I also have watches in a very different price range, I still appreciate simple and balanced watch as the Bambino for example, or this one, there's a lot of watch for the price.
That’s a good question… I think I would ask myself how often would I change the bracelet or leather out. I myself love having the option of doing that. That’s why integrated bracelet watches are great, but you have to keep that in mind.
Thanks for the nice video! I still have one important question: Is the rotor noise (very) loud like they use to be in Miyota movements? Thanks for a quick answer. Cheers! Ivan
Let me sugest you to consider making a video in how to choose an elegant (or sporty) complement band. Watch enthusiast has to be band connoisseurs , the same as wine lovers know how to pick the right bottle opener and wine glasses.
I received yesterday my Orient Bambino 38mm, which looks just amazing on my wrist. But actually I was really undecided between that and this Citizen C7. Frankly, I'm buying the other one as well... LOL
@@threehandhunter you were right, 'cause I finally got my hands of this timepiece, a month after buying the Orient Bambino. Bought it with the same feats of the other Jap (gold metal, champagne dial). Not disappointed at all, to the point that this C7 has become my everyday watch... Thanks for this review, it was worth watching! Subscribed! Cheers from an Italian in Poland! 🤌🥟
Buy the one with the black leather strap dial looks black in low light and spectacular in light. The more I look at it the better it gets very elegant but an everyday wear love it❤❤❤ they used hardened crystal to pay tribute to original the green is gorgeous need that one😊
I don't think this is jdm. My local ad here in Israel offered it to me for 234 usd back in February. Its a great looking watch, just one i decided to pass on bc i had a moonphaser on my mind.. But that dial with the day window is gorgeous! 😊
I pinned a comment on the video. Someone else said it was an Asia release first…then started to go to other markets. That would make sense to me. Thanks for the comments 👍
Really cool watch, great dial, nah movement and contained price. Price could be cheaper. Around 120 dollars I believe. This piece should compete with chinese brand namely Addie's dive, seeestern, etc. Citizen at this range can compete with Seiko and Orient but it's a quite hard segment to lead.
Very nice video. I'm new to the hobby and found it really helpfull. I'm between this and the open heart citizen (something like the NH9131-73A) . What's your opinion? Greetings from Greece. Keep up the good work.
You're saying mid tier is Five thousand dollars OH MY GOD! maybe among one percenters, but for the rest of us,that's very high tier! Will everyone reading this please chime in ?
Ehhh, I feel like their are multiple tiers here. The $5000 mark is certainly getting you a “luxury” watch. I would consider the $2000-4000 tier as “entry level” luxury. And there are probably at least two tiers above luxury. “High end luxury” would include the likes of Rolex, Blancpain, or JLC. Then you have haute horology. And then you have the “sell your house” tier.

I know most people probably hate it, but I’m really digging that day window. Just a little pop of original design. I love it.
Me too, Matt. I love features that give a timepiece a little "twist"
