@@denlfc123 got a few on strapsco. They have a good selection and weren't overly priced. Quality was quite good. A black rally strap works nicely I think.
Same here. Would have liked a racer bezel instead of the diver bezel; however, I am very happy with my purchase and the price I got my Panda at was a win.
I have this orient and i can tell you i love it! The case finishing is a step above typical makos with a mix of high polish beveling and fine brushing as opposed to the slab sided brushed seiko. The orient dial is very intricate as well. Some may say that the diving bezel is an odd choice for a chrono but i find it very useful as a count down timer and the chrono as a stop watch. Also having 200m water resistance is a huge plus. I agree the bracelet is crap but at least most of the budget went to the head of the watch. The dimensions are quite deceiving as width measures above 42mm from 10 and 4 but when measured from 12 to 6 it’s actually 41mm so the watch wears smaller than specs suggest. Solar quartz is awesome making it super accurate, convenient and robust.
Me too. I think the proportions of each of the elements are better considered. Which, come to think of it, shouldnt come as a surprise really, thats what Seiko has proven they’re good at over and over again.
I do like the Yellow face Pogue, the colors are beautiful. Just got one, and I’m very happy. I like the update from the old. Old Pogue had a day/date, and the current TAN one you showed looks a bit boring.
I have the yellow gold version as mvc talked about at the end and can only say im so happy with it, looks good on every different strap i put on , right now on a miltat jubille from strapcode 🙂
I got the orient for 300 , saving 340 over getting the sekio, which I put towards a bulova Jet star, don't regret it for a second it's a great practical everyday watch.
Loved the comparison and Seiko losing a lume battle is a shocker indeed. Those Clockwork Republic straps are definitely intriguing. I'm now considering one for my Turtle.
Seiko looks great. However, they have reached the point where their watches have gotten too expensive for most collectors. I hope Orient can take advantage of this by coming up with fresh designs at more affordable prices.
Got the tan dial Speedtimer last week, hasn't left my wrist. Killer watch for the price- checks a lot of boxes. the looks are stellar, the dial color is unique, the weight feels great, the bracelet is solid. I'd say it's by far the better choice of these two.
The Seiko is such a winner. Hard to beat in the looks department. Solar quartz is a huge bonus. Another place to look for affordable full mechanical is the Sugess 39 Chrono.
I've been posting this everywhere about comparing these two. I think you probably read something I posted. I'm glad you did this comparison. But there's more! You should have thrown in that cheap Sbpy165 to compare also.... And dare I say you could also include the Neo 70s 🐼. Love your channel sir. I watch it constantly
GREAT VIDEO!!! I noticed Epson Corp stamped on the back: In 2001 Seiko Epson (one of three core companies of the Seiko Group) became the majority shareholder (52%) of the company. Orient Watch became a wholly owned subsidiary of Epson in 2009. So with that I am amazed Orient isn't using Seiko movements.
I think it's pretty cool that Orient have their own movements, especially seemingly being pretty similar in case of specs etc to the Seiko movements (at least their basic ones); Considering the ownership of these companies. I personally hope that will last.
you are wrong, Seiko Epson is an independent company(stock code: 6724), seiko group is another company(stock code: 8050), seiko group use the movement that made by seiko epson
The orient neo 70’s solar panda I believe would be a better choice from orient. And maybe a better alternative than this orient if one does not wish to pay seiko prices. Thoughts? And if memory serves. You can get a solid endink nice bracelet for it aftermarket.
My parents and I bought the orient last May of this year and after the purchase I immediately removed the sticker on the caseback when we got home 😰 Should I be worried?
Not really my style of watch but I can appreciate it for what it is.. Orient Bambino version 8 is my favorite from the lineup not a big fan of the Roman numerals but the watch is just beautiful to me... Seiko is nice too... But only have one of their watches (the square Recraft in green, looks like a tank watch)... it's okay, and only use it here and there, anyways, I'll stick with Orient Casio citizen Tissot timex for being a price range I can afford and the quality still there... But would love to get my hands on the Hamilton field watch to see if I like it... 😎✌️
I own the Orient in Black. Swapped the stock bracelet for a shark mesh. Looks killer now. I think comparing it with the Seiko diver chronos with the Sumo case would be more fair.
I definitely prefer the Seiko, however , I do think the diver fans who want the diver feel but the chrono look, the Orient is an excellent choice. I have Orients, a dress watch, a Mako XL diver and a Japanese market Panda 3 subdial chronograph and I changed the bracelets on them all. I think the difference in price shows, but if you put a good quality strap or bracelet on the Orient, it could change the perception a lot. My Pulsar Solar has a ceramic tachymeter bezel that looks better than the one on the Seiko. And Seiko owns Pulsar. I'd have loved to see that tachymeter on the Seiko !
I have the Seiko and it shares time with my Omega PO Seamaster. I love the Seiko. I don't feel like I have put on a "cheap watch" after wearing the much more expensive Omega. It is very nice but I do hate the 24 hour sub dial, not useful at all but in fairness I almost never push the buttons anyway lol.
@@SamuraiJackson Me personally? Only at the track, and only when I am curious what someone's average speed is through a certain section, which is not very often. But that isn't really the point. A big timer hand chrono's main purpose is to line up with a tachymeter, otherwise, it would just be one of the sub dials. But on a more macro level, my, or anyone else's specific use case for a watch exists independently of what that watch should be: I don't dive to 300m, but I still expect my dive watches to be water proof.
Greatly enjoyed the video, but I don’t think any of us had to watch to know the Orient is a great watch, but the Seiko is better and worth the money. Thanks!
Get your hands on a Seiko Ripley reissue, it knocks both of these chronographs out of the park. Also, they're less bulkier for those with smaller wrists.

The Orient really is a nice piece. Love the look! I just wouldn't buy one when I want a racing chrono as it's a diver so I believe both watches aren't that comparable. Hollow endlinks and pressed clasp on the Orient are a bummer in 2024 as well. Otherwise a beautiful watch and a good deal if you just search for a panda chrono and put another strap on the watch anyway. The SEIKO is almost perfect when you're searching for a racing chrono and don't want to pay TAG Heuer Carrera prices but it's still way too expensive at ~700 msrp IMO.
Great show as always MWC and a very useful comparison. I think both watches are great for their respective places in the market. For me, the Seiko wins straight away given it has the tachymeter bezel rather than the Orients diver countdown bezel. Even though a timing bezel is probably more useful to me than a tachymeter, a chronograph needs a tachymeter, right? 😂

I considered both, the Seiko's pricey albeit a deal was possible when I made enquiries, the Orient's on the big side. Ended up buying a Hoffman which was kind of nuts for other reasons.
Go the Seiko, not that much more just wait for a good deal (like anything SEIKO). Looks a lot better and solar. Still love the Mako 2/3/Komasu, very nice for what it is and made in Japan. Perfect once you put it on an island watch jubilee.
3 dial chrono's have never been my thing, but my bigest gripe is "the Date Window" why do they still put them on watches like this? They un balance the layout of the dial, both look like they were shoehorned in
I like the orient for its unique concept and design. Chrono in a diver is a cool concept in my view. No doubt seiko is higher quality but seems relative to price.
i’d say both are equally worth for the price point, seiko better but pricier, orient a bit cheaper but not as good as seiko. but well priced so both are worth it
The deal breaker is the Orient's bezel. It's got that aluminum painted bezel in a bottle cap style form. Citizen have the same style in their Dive watches at these price points. To be fair the Seitona is only one with a better Bezel; the rest of the speed timer line use similar aluminum painted bezels; that's why for me the Seitona is the best Speed Timer Model in it's class.
