Ghostbusters 2016 may not be for everyone since it's a reboot / remake of sorts and the original being sacred to many but demonizing how extremists tend to do is just stupid.

I watched the trailer and personally it just didn't do much for me. I didn't laugh, didn't dig how it lacked a lot of the charm of the originals, no practical effects to be had. It's honestly yet another reboot / remake added to the pile of legendary movies that doesn't need to be made and if anything it makes people roll their eyes. But as for the SJW's and the extremists? Those fucking whackjobs are always reaching far and wide to find fault and take issue with anything in entertainment......the fuckers are dense beyond belief

The only thing offensive about this movie is the disregard and disrespect it has for the classics and the old fans. I really hope this will be just like fantastic 4 and bomb hard as fuck.

the trailer only pissed me off because it's not even called Ghostbusters 3. like they're trying to make the old movie irrelevant.

I am probably going to be buried for saying this but, this is what I have observed:
The main push against her character seems to be from white guys. The thing is, they are right. They have been for some time now. They hate it because her character is inconsistent with both the seemingly progressive message of the movie and her heavily implied representation of Winston.
Winston was a balanced character, an unassuming character who walked into an adventure. That was the magic. Although in the final cut his character was changed, it did not have a lasting effect on his dialogue or direction. Her character is a brazen stereotype, you can debate that if you would like. Winston was an ex-marine with many degrees and a PH.D in the original script. Now, if you wanted to open up things for audiences of all demographics because equality makes you hard down there, wouldn't you take the opportunity to capitalize on that?
Here is something else, they weren't all scientists in the film. Don't have your opening text say that. It's bad for business. If they looked at wikipedia for 10 seconds they would know that. They don't care. That is the cold fact. They appear to have done zero research on film with a 154 million dollar investment.
Either way, this is a sad day for ghostbusters. We all knew what was going to happen, we all knew that these changes were reactionary. We also know that reaction without depth and weight is sinful to the art form.
Racism is a thing. The thing is, that she's promoting this shit. Her character is loud, violent, uneducated, and 2 dimensional. People don't like bullshit. I lot of people love Winston. Now we have Madea. Great Job guys.
I love your stuff, I love how passionate you are. You review so many excellent things. This is just my opinion. I'm a black dude who grew up in Alabama, I have experienced actual racism. I know what this film is trying to do, and it's failing at it. There are no valid reasons this film couldn't be better than the original. None.
They fight this representation because it is hypocritical, dumb, and flaccid. They say it's racist because it actually is. Blacks tend to cry wolf a lot these days.
I hope the film is mind-blowing, because I would rather have that great feeling of adventure again than have a uselessly valid opinion. Unfortunately I think I'm right.

+Nate's Life its not really a cliche, its a trope... and tropes arent bad if you can write it well enough. There is no writer in the world that can write a story without using at least one. They are tropes for a reason, they work in nearly every context. You can tell though, a good writer from a bad writer, on how well that trope is handled. In this movie, its painfully obvious the writer is a hack by the handling of the character.
In the original movie, the leveled headed working class black man, was something of a trope as well. Winston Zeddmore's role was to bring the every man to the team. Of course the writers pulled it off beautifully because he wasnt written as a completely one note, one dimensional character. He had layers to him that allowed Ernie Hudson to play off the other three actors well, creating a synergy.
Something that, as the trailer shows, this movie is clearly lacking.
People bitching about how they want all female cast of ghostbusters, now that they got it, they bitch about it. The movie wouldnt be bad if it was not written for the sjws and probably by them. All they know are stereotypes.

I don't even care for a reboot of Ghost Busters, it wasn't needed, I'm sick of remakes, reboots and remasters in the entertainment industry.
The fact that Patty isn't a scientist like the other girls isn't really an issue. Wintson in Ghostbusters wasn't a scientist but was kind of like the every day Joe.
However, unlike Winston, who joined the Ghostbusters because they were hiring and he wanted a steady paycheck. Patty joins the team because "she knows New York", despite the fact that the others have probably lived in Manhattan their whole lives.
Like how messed up would it be if Winston walked into the Ghostbuster's building just as they were starting and told them "you need me on your team, because I know the streets."
just goes to show, bad writing is bad and diversity and the "correct" gender dont make it automaticly better.

It doesn't have to be an SNL skit to be funny, memorable, and just generally good. If I recall right, it started with "4 Scientists", alluding to the original Ghostbusters... right off the bat, we have what seems to be poor writing to a half assed attempt of a cash cow reboot.

I love Ghostbusters, I grew up with Ghostbusters, I adored the Extreme Ghostbusters, The Real Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters were a large part of my childhood.
This movie is an abomination, to much CGI effects takes away what made the original's special the stylized and uniform look to the ghost make them to 'the same'. In the original's every ghost was unique, and had their own look and story. Someone put love and detail in every one. The effects here look about on par with the Live Action Scooby-Doo movie. I didn't crack the first smile, or give one belly laugh throughout any of this. These people may be comedians, but they aren't funny, it doesn't feel like a real chemistry or friendship. Also with the vomit scene I am expecting low brow toilet humor to make the little kiddies laugh and nothing to provoke thought or any sort of wit. Plus why did Beetlejuice walk by at the very end? Is this thing desperate for ghost ideas?
Honestly I feel like this movie is a desecration of Harold Ramis and his memory, the moment he died this garbage suddenly got out of developmental hell and was being pushed through. Dan Aykroyd wouldn't even help promote the film and he was across the street in Australia promoting his vodka, and he has a cameo in this mess. I have no problem with female Ghostbusters, Kylie from Extreme Ghostbusters is one of my favorite Ghostbusters, but I get the feeling with the hot Social Justice Warriors and hardcore feminist movement this movie was made to make a point, and while there may be a point to be made, it isn't on the big screen in a beloved franchise. When I go to watch a movie it is to be entertained, not to have an agenda pushed off on me, if I wanted an agenda pushed I would watch a documentary.
This trailer did not impress me, the disregard and desecration of Harold Ramis's memory really doesn't impress me, this movie seems like low tier low garbage crap that someone made with their fancy new computer. I think this movie is going the way of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, all special effects and absolutely zero heart, just what corporate focus groups say is hip and in.
Also I haven't really heard of it being racist, I didn't take it that way personally. I got no problem with female Ghostbusters either, like I said these women have no chemistry, if anything it is way to much like the original, token lovable doof, token wisecracker, token mad genius who is socially awkward, token black person for the audience to relate to.
It hasn't even come out yet. How the fuck can you declare this an abomination if you've never even seen it?!
+CrunchyLlamaToes99 Well many reasons, firstly a trailer for any movie or game is suppose to inspire and engage, it has to make the target demographic want to see the movie. It fails on that. The content they showed was not their best foot forward by a longshot.
Secondly the politics behind the movie. A third Ghostbusters movie had been in developmental hell for at least a decade, maybe longer, Herold Ramis (Egon and one of the writers) was one of the biggest holdups with the studio, as he didn't want to continue the franchise (Along with Bill Murray), funny how when Herold Ramis died it went through almost immediately, new cast, new crew new director (Though I am pretty sure Ivan Rightman is a producer) with 'cameo's' from the original cast.
Thirdly these women really don't seem to have any chemistry together, I didn't crack smile one during the trailer. The original Cast had chemistry they were friends on and off set, the roles were almost tailored to them with them in mind. These actors seemed to be stepping into someones much larger shoes when it was unnecessary.
Fourthly, the CGI. The original Ghostbusters used a mix of makeup, puppets, animatronics, filters, and a whole load of animation tricks. Each ghost was unique, it had it's own story without saying a word. This movie all the ghost are uniform, CGI or CGI touch up work. They look like generic dead guy #487741 and was Ctrl+C/Ctrl+P'ed till the scene was full. That is missing a big point. Not to say CGI is a bad thing but, it's a tool, so is makeup, so is animation, so is puppetry, and from what was shown and given, that's not here, it has no heart, no soul, no effort. These four want to be the original Ghostbusters so bad they can't stand it, they should have been their own group, but they are token's of the original, nothing more.
Hope I could better explain why! I hope I am wrong, I really do, but, I kinda have the feeling I am not on this.

This reminds me of an argument I had with a guy over The Hobbit films.
He said it was racist because there were no Black Elves, Latino Hobbits, Indian Dwarves, etc, etc.
I tried explaining that that was because it was a European esque setting with races based off of European creatures from European folklore and mythology, but at every turn he constantly whined about how Tolkien's writing was racist for having only white Europeans and no Latino Hobbits and that it didn't matter if Tolkien said the cast was all European and all white, that it *NEEDED* to be changed because it was racist that there were no Latino Hobbits(Yes, he did keep going back to the Latino Hobbits thing.).
The worst part is that he was one of *those* people, the ones where no matter what you say, no matter what the argument is, and no matter how many holes are in their argument, they always perceive themselves as correct, everyone else is wrong and always will be, their argument is flawless in every way possible and they will always win because they are right, you are wrong, and Hobbits *MUST* be Latino.
I've learned since then to not bother arguing with these ignorant toads, though I still do for some stupid reason.

Honestly, these social justice warriors have made Hollywood movies un-watchable. I just sit there and cringe at the perfectly racially diverse cast and all the empowered female characters. And the obligatory 'forced in' gay romance side story.

Alpha you pretty much hit the nail of the head of how I feel about the how situation concerning this movie. Nothing's good enough for anybody anymore. It's like, you get a feminist movie and yet you refuse to support it because it doesn't fulfil your own personal needs. Representation in the media takes time, it doesn't become perfect overnight and the fact that people are reaching out to find even the smallest sliver to bitch about with this movie kinda depresses me.
I personally got excited watching the trailer and I'd love to go see it, but I can understand why the original film is very sacred to a lot of people, but that's not gonna stop me from watching this when it comes out. I'm gonna watch before I judge, simple as that. To those who have been smart enough to be skeptical and judge the film on more constructive means, more power to you. You have more logic and sense than these extremists do.

Here's the thing for me, there's sass and there's that stereotypical sass. What I saw seemed too forced to show us that of all of the sassy ladies on the cast she is suppose to be the sassiest. Compare her "Aw hell no" to Mo' Niq's "Oh hell no!" In fact just compare it to any black actor's "Aw/Oh hell no!" there's an abundance of it.
The thing is it doesn't feel 'natural'. The whole thing doesn't, they need to dial it back about two notches.
I wouldn't love to go out and conduct a witch hunt of social justice warriors, death by fire, redemption through death.

Watched it again, and read all of the debate surrounding the trailer. I still stand by the fact that I believe it is stunt casting because they have not used this opportunity to do anything new with the creativity because, apart from their names, they are female carbon copies of the male cast of the first two films. It's obvious as to whom the Egon, Ray, Winston, and Peter are because they have even gone so far to make the cast look like their male counterparts. When you think of it like that, shouldn't the feminists be pissed off that the women are not their own characters?

Yeah for those who have seen the show you know her real name as Melissa McCarthy. So what's wrong with her you ask? Well let me tell you. First off there's no way in hell that she fits the role. I mean who wants to hear her fat jokes and see her do the same running down the road slumped over tired joke. I mean that's her best gag. In Ghost busters I'm sure she will try to catch a ghost and then place her hands on her knees tired from chasing the ghost. Big whoop. That's not funny. And once again the budget had to be horrible. I mean they cast Kristen Wiig from SNL and two other ladies from the show. But allow me to go in on Kristen Wiig real quick. In short she's horrible and not funny at all. I couldn't name any of her skits from the show and none were that memorable to be honest. Now I will say this however; the other two ladies from SNL are more funny than the two main protagonist Mellissa&Kristen. Which is pretty sad to say the least. If you ask me and you should. I could cast the best actors for this Ghostbusters remake right now. The budget would have to be much higher but at least the movie wouldn't be crap like it's going to be when this load of garbage comes out. So here's my cast and bare with me. Will Ferrell I don't have to say any more here. He's the man and could carry a Bill Murray type of protagonist like in the original film. Kevin James this guy is funny and diverse in his acting skills. I could definitely see him busting ghost and making the movie fun. He would bring a Dan Aykroyd type feel to the film. Or Steve carell he's great for that second man spot. Kevin Hart or Mike Epps can play the token Black guy from the original GhostBusters and make it even funnier. Now as for the nerd of the group this was a tough pick. But I had to go with none other than Jon Heder from Napoleon Dynamite. I mean damn give the guy some work he's already been type cast as playing the nerd. This would be an allstar cast and gross ten times the money that it would with this cheap junk cast they have now trust me. Maybe even some futuristic elements could be placed in the version of GhostBusters that I'm talking about with this cast I listed above. But going cheap doesn't always mean the best movie this is the case with the new Ghostbusters coming out this year. Just throwing something out there to get a quick buck and save on cost so you get 3 women from Saturday Night live and one women from a Show that just got canceled Mike&Molly. Yeah that makes perfect sense. I want to say that the first two GhostBuster movies were fantastic. This franchise deserves far better than where it's headed this year with the new one. Please share this post as it needs to make it's way to Hollywood so that the Murder of an amazing Movie Cult Classic can be stopped. Thank you!
People are probably pissed because Leslie Jones just plays the loud "aah hell naw" stereotype that she does in everything. Ernie Hudson had this cool, pragmatic charisma that equaled out the other guys' geekiness. But Jones is just obnoxious and plays the same archetype that's been used in every mediocre comedy in the past 20 years.

The writers made it a big deal because they felt so insecure that they had to EXPLICITLY state that the other characters are "the best at quantum physics" (as if that sentence has anything remotely resembling a meaning) and a "world class engineer". All the while, the black character has to explicitly state that she don't do none of that science shit, but she's street-smart, says AWW HELL NAWW and slaps the devil outta someone. It's just lazy writing. A good character doesn't need their characteristics narrated. The original Ghostbusters had funny dialogue and characters that stood alone, regardless of their gender.
I don't get how they didn't see this attempt at SJW appeasement would backfire. They are eternally offended and never satisfied. Like Sark says: Everything is problematic and they have to point it all out. Then they have to pretend their feelings are hurt all the time. If there's nothing there to be outraged about, they invent something.

When you think back to Winston's character in Ghostbusters, his role never felt like he was the "black guy" of the group, he was just the every man in the group, which was clear he only joined simply to get paid. While sassy black lady seemed to be cast as "black person who knows the streets" instead, which misses the whole point why Winston even exists, which is why the "racism" argument is actually a lot more founded than you put off as.
Hell, the one thing I'm amazed is how you don't even mention how SJWs in general are using this movie as "if you don't like this movie, you are sexist" argument to try clear themselves from any criticism
I used to post on a certain toy collector forum until some idiot posted about how racist JJ Abrams was for making Khan an Englishman in Star Trek: Into Darkness. How dare he make an Indian character English! The point that this Indian character was originally portrayed by a Hispanic actor was totally lost on him of course. Extended: We share very different opinions on music, (heavy metal for you, a lot more docile on my end), we don't share many of the same interests in movies (though the original Ghost Busters was downright great.) In games, I avoid horror as if it would
cause me to explode into flames if I played them.
Furthermore, I even avoid cursing and don't care for it much at all while you'll use it every fifteen seconds in a rant. (If not more.)
But, where it matters most, we do tend to agree.
Parents need to be responsible for what their children see, what they do, etc. People shouldn't whine over _stupid_ things like this.
Real racism is a very serious problem. Real sexism is a horrible, horrible thing that is a serious blight and sickness of humanity.
I may not like _how_ you convey a message a lot of the times, but what I do approve of is how you give it to people straight. That blunt honesty, and genuine concern you have about subjects makes you personable, despite some of the things I would normally complain about.
Anyway, I dunno if you'll ever see it, but if so, good work. If not, well, at least I got some things off my mind that have been here for the last several years.
