  • AlphaOmegaSin discusses worst game stores as well as worst customer service and overall worst video game shopping experiences. We've all been out n about looking for games but sometimes the people we run into or the place we're in makes everything so damn awful. So I thought why not do a little AlphaOmegaSin discussion on the matter?

The cashier at a GameStop called me "ignorant" just because I refused to pre-order RE6. Why the fuck should I be forced to pre-order a game I've no interest/dislike? Great customer service there, GameShit.

I had one employee tell me I'd miss out on games since I said to my cousin in our conversation that I didn't like what EA had to offer. This guy went on a rant about how I'd need to worry about the economy (I was 15 at the time) and that I shouldn't have to worry about poor business practices of a company and the products or how the (derailing his argument) the KINECT doesn't spy on people (oddly enough the NSA admitted to doing just that with devices like the Kinect) long story short I never went back and from what I've been told he was fired after being caught trying to steal MW3 preorder copies. The most recent story was last year when I found out the they changed my preorder the manager and another employee got into a fit when I said I was dropping all preorders for what they did, they kept going on about "oh but it'll just be like Amazon" when I said I'm getting a better deal on Amazon. That was the last time I had ever stopped in at a GameScam.

Dr. Earthworm Robotnik That makes me sad... at the very least Leon's Campaign is good, if a little silly at times. Plus mercenaries mode? Not even close to as bad as RE5!

HighLevi i have fiends who work at gamestop they say they love working there. its a familiar environment to alot of games who enjoy gaming. hell after i bought a game i somehow ended up talking to one of the employees for 30 minutes about anime. but my friend was also buying games as well so i was waiting. i wouldn't want to work their permanently i would like a more stable job that pays well but i think its good if your looking part time work. you and your employees and have alot to talk about on non busy days.

It's not that bad. I use to go there when new games came out. But the up selling gets really annoying sometimes so I prefer best buy. The employees aren't forced to up sell as much as game stop. I just want to buy a game I don't want to preorder stuff, get their card, their magazine subscription. Whatever.

I recently bought Bioshock Infinte from Gamestop, they claimed it was "new" bought it, went home, opened the case, the disk was scratched, there was what I THINK was a pubic hair under the disk, and the manual was ripped in half. "New".

alex santana I bought a "new" copy of Skate 3 and when I opened it there was no manual, no code for that online pass thing that new copies had, and the disc was so scratched that the game froze almost every 5 minutes. I sold it to a friend for 5 bucks and bought a copy on Xbox Live, which also overprices their games.

When I got my Wii U I realized my TV at the time didn't have HDMI hookups, so I went to GameStop to pick up a Wii component cable which Nintendo's official site said would work with the U. The pencil-necked dweeb at the counter dug up the cable for me, but he argued with me every step of the way that "Wii U only supports HDMI, sir." I must've told him 3 times that Nintendo begs to differ before he finally sold me the cable with that "you'll be sorry!" look on his face. Lo and behold, the thing worked when I took it home. Who knew that Nintendo would actually _tell the truth_ on their official website?

I've never had a bad shopping experience in a video game store, but after working in one, I do have plenty of stories...
So one afternoon, I had a customer call up about a 'faulty' recharge kit that she'd bought for her Wii remotes. I spent ten minutes troubleshooting with her over the phone, before she asked about the 'little white boxes' that came with the charge stand. The little white boxes? You mean...the batteries? I asked her what she'd put into battery compartment of the Wii remotes. She just goes..."Nothing. The recharge stand makes them rechargeable." She'd been trying to charge her Wii remotes for hours without the batteries in. I struggled to hold in the laughter.

      ***** Same. While I've never had a bad shopping experience when it comes to games (that I can think of), after working in one, you really do get the other side of the story. While 95% of gamers are great to deal with and it's awesome to talk to them about the games they like, you have that 5% that make you want to bang your head against the wall. I get calls all the time that can simply be answered by Google. Like, one time a woman called because her son couldn't figure out how to kick the ball in a Madden game. -_-;

I don't know about worst, but one of the best happened to me not too long ago. I was at a used movie, music, and games store called Disk Replay, and I was just looking around, and suddenly this guy comes in with several boxes of stuff to sell. Curious, I casually look at them, and see a Breath of Fire 3 in mint condition, a game I had been looking for for years, and a number of other games I had been looking for. So, I decided to wait for them to sort through the boxes and price everything. In that time, I started talking to the guy that brought them in, and we just hit it off.
Talked about games, collecting, and all manner of different things. Was a really cool guy. In passing, I told him that I had been searching for Breath of Fire 3 for so long, and right after, he walked up to the counter, told them he was no longer selling the game, and handed it to me. It was one of the coolest moments of my life, and it left me speechless. After that, he let me look through the stuff they didn't take, and said; help yourself.

My worst experience was at gamestop with my father when saints row 3 had came out, i am under 18 so im not allowed to get it and thats why im with my father. The game is obviously full of nudity, sex and drugs and thats why i thought it was so funny (like every other guy). so i said to my dad that i would want this game and he was like okay, are you sure? and i said yes. (he had no idea that the game was like that). so we go up to the counter and my dad hands forward the game and the guy at the counter says, ¨is this game for your son?¨ and continued, ¨you know this game is really violent right¨ yeah my dad said, the guy at the counter continued ¨and by violent i mean you go around and kill people with giant pink dildos¨ and i just stood there and it was super akward. my dad just sighed and baught me the game anyways. and then he knew that i went around nude and killed people with huge pink dildos...

I played this during the steam free weekend and was having a lot of fun with it so I convinced my mom (basically one of those Christians who frown on everything depicted in sr3) to buy it for me (i think it was like $5 or something) and without thinking about it or looking the game up she handed me the credit card. To this day I still don't think she knows what she payed for... She also got me SR4 with some DLC the X-Mas that came out... From Amazon... With the trailer right there... Idk if she just didn't care or if she is just ignorant...

nintendokings I had GTA San Andreas at 5, and I would argue early exposure to things is better. But come on, at 14 you are aware of everything you would know at 16 about the world. I was 12 when Saints Row 3 came out and of course I knew what a Dildo was and of course I knew that whacking someone in the face with it isn't a normal thing to do.

Tiernan McCarthy Meanwhile my little sister asked me what jacking off meant because she heard it in an Eminem song (Yes we're that old.) when she was 15.
I always found it funny that most of the games I play as an adult aren't M rated, but when I worked with middle school kids most of them liked to play M rated games.

I was about 14 and I was looking at the PS2 games and my mom left me at the Gamexchange while she went shopping.
I grabbed my iPod and turned on my music and started looking at their games when a cop grabbed me and pulled me outside.
I thought I was being detained before the cop said "did you witness the robbery that happend about 20 minutes ago?".i told him I was listening to my iPod but I did tell him I was there at the time.
A day or two later, I was brought back to the station and saw the store security footage.

I used to work at a used video game store where I live. It was a place called Video Game Exchange, and has since gone out of business. Doesn't surprise me, in hindsight. The thing is, it was in a location that was almost nothing but pawn shops and liquor stores, infamous for crackheads and ne'er-do-wells of every variety. Not exactly the best location for this kind of business, not if you're actually trying to reach the target market. The reality is that they got most of their business from buying stolen items and dealing in trade with ignorant parents.
That said, there are plenty of examples I can give about bad experiences like this. I can't tell you how many people came in trying to sell me a copy of the Mario/Duck Hunt combo as though it was gold, getting pissed at me when I wouldn't give them crack prices for it even after I pointed out the wall of the store FILLED TO THE FUCKING BRIM with copies of that same cartridge. Even after showing them just how rare it isn't, showing them the copies I was using to level tables with broken legs and as fucking paper weights, they'd swear it was the most valuable thing on the planet.
I have lots of ridiculous stories in that regard, especially since they often decided to set their prices based on the ebay average, just like the store you worked for. But no, the worst experience of it came from the fact that the owner's wife was a racist piece of shit. She was constantly blaming me for things that she thought were missing but actually weren't, or would lose her shit any time I had a friend of mine (who is also not white) keeping me company on the slow hours, just certain that he was leaving the place after filling his pockets with rare games.
The last straw came one day when she came to do inventory. We had security cameras, but they didn't record. They just fed to a monitor in the back room. If you were white, she'd treat you like she'd known you since you were in diapers. But if you had the slightest touch of color to your skin, she'd clam up, go to the back room and watch that monitor like a hawk until your business was concluded. Well, my father came in to see what DVDs we had in store while she happened to be there, and what do you suppose she did? Yep, right to the back, and profiled the fuck out of him.
I asked her if she had any idea who that was, she said he looked suspicious. I told her it was my father, to go fuck herself. And I gave her the courtesy of a week to look for someone to replace me, even though I shouldn't have given her that much. She insulted my family, accused us of being thieves, and I had never done a single dishonest thing til I worked there. Thanks to that place, there isn't a security case I don't know how to break or dismantle, a skill I learned from the bitch herself. And she had the nerve to treat me like a criminal? The fucking audacity.
They were paying me under the table, too. Hell, I could have cleaned out their register, cleared out their safe, left the door open and a sign in front that said "Free games, take what you want," and there wouldn't have been shit they could have done. They had no records of me working there, and the camera didn't record anything. Fortunately for her, I have a sense of honor she lacked.
Turns out racism saved my life, though. It hadn't been more than a month since I'd left that I saw a news report about the murder of my co-worker at that same store, and on on a night I would have been working had I not quit. They robbed the place blind, but not before beating him to death with baseball bats and dumping his body in the back lot, where he wasn't found for another few days. The tragedy was, he'd had enough of that place's shit, too. He was only a week away from moving back to Puerto Rico to live with his family, and only stuck it out those last few weeks to have some spending cash for the trip. Guess it wasn't in the cards...
It was like a situation out of Gary Jules' "Mad World."

A lady where I lived ran a used video game store/video game rental when I was a kid during the SNES era. I had saved up all my weekly allowances to buy a game, because I knew the price. I hot 2 dollars weekly in allowance so I had saved up money for 20 weeks. That was a big achievement when I was eight, and I was finally going to the store to buy my very own game out of my own pocket.
I loved zelda, my neighbour had it for his NES so I was super exited to see it on sale for 40 bucks. That was all my money, and I paid it gladly.
I got home, sat down to play it and finished it in two days. Then I realised I'd likely never play it again... So I went back and asked if I could trade it in for another game. I couldn't but she said I coukd sell it back to her, and I agreed. She took my game and handed me 5 dollars. And I was confused, like, it was 40 dollars two days ago, why did I get 5 now?
Look, I know that's how things work with used merchandise. That's not the main thing. She didn't explain why sge only fave me 5 bucks, and then I figured I changed my mind, I'd rather keep the hame I had just gave her.
And get this. She wouldn't give ut back, becayse now it cost 40 again. I had literally gave it to her seconds ago, and now she wanted me to pay 40, for something she had just taken out of my hand for a fiver.
And I was just a kid, I couldn't argue with an adult, I didn't know about if it was legal or not. I was super sad because I couldn't even get another game for 5 dollars, so I went home.
My mom is a gentle, gentle lamb. I can easily count the times I've seen her angry on one hand. That was one such time, when I told her what had just happened. She got this super fucking serious look on her face and was like "I'll handle this."
She loaded me into the car, drove me there and went ballistic on this woman. I swear, if there hadn't been a desk vetween them, she'd be at her throat. Eventually, out if shock and fear most likely, the woman went back on her sale, took my five bucks and gave me back my game.
Now when im older I know the lady was just trying to scam me since I was an easy target, she were way out of line and deserved every ounce of rage my mon handed her. So it was a shitty experience to say the least even if it worked out for me in the end. Plus, I also found out my mom was fucking scary when angry.

I had three bad experiences, the first two when the Wii was just released and the last one few months ago.
    1) My mom let me skip the first few classes to wait at Wal-Mart for release. I had a Wii in my hands and an was on my way to the cashier when I felt a pain in the back of my head, an old lady hit me with her cane, took the Wii, and told me that her 'grandbaby wants this' while I was left unsure of what to do since I doubted anyone would believe a teenager over an old woman and I couldn't really take it back or she'd accuse me of stealing it from her.
    2) Also at Wal-Mart, second time trying to get a Wii, I waited in line patiently for them to wheel them out and just when I was about to get one, some woman pulls up with a cart full of groceries and said she was 'in the store first' and was waiting for the Wii but decided to get grocery shopping done. The employee gave it to her since 'she was there first'. Maybe its just me, but I think if you're there for an item, you should have to stay in the area its getting brought to in order to call 'first'..I ended up having to pay $100 more then asking price to get it off of eBay in the end..
    3) At a locally run Gaming Store, I walked in wearing a Nintendo shirt (I forget if it was a Mario one, a Zelda one, or my Fire Emblem Awakening Lucina shirt) but the guy behind the counter, who was evidently the manager, started to berate me for 'supporting the worst company in Gaming'. When I calmly said that I felt that belonged to EA or Activision rather then Nintendo, he said I was wrong because 'all Nintendo does is re-hash the same series over and over with nothing new'. I mentioned Splatoon but he said 'that doesn't count, it'll never sell' and just kept going on and on about how Nintendo never does anything new or interesting and how they're 'killing gaming' until I got fed up and left the store. He did all that without me even talking to him, all I did was walk in.

carmelle127 Sad thing is that it wasn't even a rant about that, he said they were 'only successful' for their 'rehashed series' so he found them fairly successful.
His rant was about how they are 'worse company' then the likes of EA, Activision, and Konami..in fact saying they were the 'worst company' and were 'bad for gaming'..which is funny when most people see their policies on things like DLC good with the only complaints being about gimmicks or not being as powerful as the PS4/Xbox One are..

Rant aside(I'm so sorry, I don't know were that come from) Konami is going to hell very with my Demonic Army "assisting" them(if you catch my drift)

i went to one gamestop to go and get an nintendo ds game. i found Pokemon black (back when the game is brand new) and wanted to buy it, but instead tried to convince me to buy all Call of duty games for xbox 360, just the xbox 360 version. i told him i just want the game that i came for and i dont own an xbox. then he went to the back. grab an xbox 360 MW2 edition toss it on the counter like a frizz-be, slide, knock the stack of call of duty games he stuck up, fell and hit the ground. and told me that would be $1050 (not $10.50). i refuse and just wanted the ds game i came for. Then he got all mad and argue that i didnt buy it and tried to tell me that nintendo is for babys and call of duty is for "real men" . and i just walked out the store, went to walmart (closest store that sells game) and bought the game there.

Mr. Some Gamer Dude I almost feel that's the guy that used to be at my store several years ago, who I think was a manager (and also next to a walmart) as he was always a huge douche, trash talking other people's game/console choices and going on about how great Call of Duty games and the Xbox 360 was and trying to get people to buy those instead.
He clearly disliked most games, and held the customers in contempt and was always super aggressive about seeing IDs and credit cards.
I once I went in with my mothers CC, so I could use it to just run in and buy my little sister a GC memory card and get out fast, while the family was shopping and made he made a massive huge stink and acted like I was some thief committing credit card fraud(for $16) even after showing my ID with the same last name and I had to have her come over from the Walmart and he still acted like a major asshole.
Probably a different store but considering the guy that replaced him was also a giant asshole who clearly disliked me intensely and was always very rude (and would interrupt conversations about games with the girl that worked there, guess he was jelly.) I feel like being a huge insecure asshole is a defining trait needed to be hired as a gamestop manager.

But my absolute worst was when I went to Shelby Ohio, Stickmens a personally owned store. The store had broken tiles, old games, and looked really run down.
They had promotional stuff like posters and card board pop ups, all sun damaged badly.
The same women that was irate with me at Gamestop was there working the counter along with a Pot head. Smelled like straight weed, shit was everywhere behind the counter.
The women didn't even look interested at all in her job.
No prices on any of the games, none, zero.

I went into Gamestop with my girlfriend and got stuck in line behind this guy flirting with the register-girl that seems to be his wife/girlfriend. He leaves after talking for a bit and buys nothing.. so I walk up already annoyed with my wait and make small talk with my girlfriend at the counter. We end up joking around about who is better at fighting games when I say "maybe you should stay in the kitchen." The register-girl responds "you should punch him" completely dead-tone to my girlfriend. We both chuckle thinking she is trying to be part of our shit-talking until she says "seriously, punch him in the face" while finishing the purchase. We ask to speak with a manager and she turns out to be it.. Decided never to shop at Gamestop again.

used to live in a country town in Wyoming where the only used game store slightly close was about a 30 minute drive to the next town over. It was a small business run by a man and his wife who seemed pretty cool every time i came in and i had no problem taking the drive every couple weeks to buy some games from them. Well one day me and my roomate head up there to see if we could find a snes because i had found an old Super Metroid cartridge in a storage unit (original box and manual too, score!) so we get there and i look around but cant find one so on a fluke i asked if he had any in the back of the store for sale or if he knew anywhere i could find one. He tells me he has one that he was refurbishing and that i could buy it and hed send it to my address when he was done, keep in mind every experience ive had in this store up to this point went very well. So i give him the money and my shipping address ad he says it should be there in no more than two weeks and i even gave him my cell # in case anything had come up. I know what your thinking, why would i even pay for something i hadnt seen or that hadnt even been refurbished yet, but at the time i didnt even think about that, i had been looking EVERYWHERE for a decently priced snes and the only ones i could find were either way overpriced or fake knockoffs, i was just happy somewhere near me had one they were willing to sell. So i head home and waited 2 weeks and heard nothing, i called the store and the guy tells me that it was refurbished but he had forgotten to mail it to me....ok, not that big of a deal i guess, kind of a pain in the ass...whatever. I take the drive up there to pick it up and notice off the bat that it is really dusty and it doesnt look like this thing has been touched in years, let alone refurbished but i took his word for it and took it home. I hook it up and pop in my Super Metroid for a nostalgia trip and whadya know, i get a weird pixelated green screen with these weird crackly noises. At first i thought i must have plugged something on the back of my tv wrong so i leave the system on and check but it all seems alright, so then it must be the cartridge slot or the cartridge itself must have dust in it. I go to pop the cartridge out and blow in it and when i look down to the system there is SMOKE coming from the cartridge slot. I take the cartridge out and the bottom is fried and the inside of the snes didnt look any better. I call the guy and tell him what happens and he tells me that he isnt going to refund me because i could have just messed it up myself and want to rip him off, the fuck? I go down to the store with the snes to tell him i want my money back and he literally locks the door and puts the closed sign up as he sees my car park out front. I called him constantly for the next two hours but it just kept going to voicemail, this is from a STORE not just some random dude off craigslist or something....seriously dont think ive ever had a worse experience than that and doubt i ever will. Truly unprofessionalism at its finest. I actually drove by that store two days ago and its a cafe now.....suprise suprise.

When I was younger a few years ago, about 12 I think, and I'm 18 now, so like 6 years I guess, I was at gamestop with my older brother, who at the time was 23, he's 11 years older than me. He was looking at a game and decided to buy it, and I was not interested whatsoever, it was rated M, didn't even want to look at the cover, all I wanted was pokemon or something. So he gives me the case and tells me to bring it to the cash register so I take it and my pokemon game and put it on the counter, and explain that I wanted the pokemon game and my brother wanted whatever gorey game he handed to me, and this cute looking girl behind the counter, who didn't look like she gamed pretty much at all and had no business working at a gamestop looks at me and without even thinking says "I'm sorry, we can't sell you an M rated game, you aren't old enough." Takes the game case and puts it under the counter. I try explaining it to her and she just shook her head and said "Nope, your brother can't buy it for you, he's not your legal guardian". Then my brother came up to the counter and asked what was going on, explained that he wanted the game for himself, for the second time because I already had told her. She refused to sell him the game, and he asked to speak to the manager. Manager told him the same thing. I had to actually call up my mom who was down the street at a walmart or something and had her come down and buy the game, because they wouldn't sell it to my 23 year old brother, who was the person who originally wanted the game anyway. The funniest part of the whole ordeal was my mom telling the manager that we should get 3$ off the price of the game because they made her drive all the way here and waste a gallon of gas, and asked why she had to buy a game for her 23 year old adult son, then for the third time, she told them that I was not the one who wanted the game, and it was like they didn't even hear her. The following month-2 months, we avoided gamestop like the plague and went to a place called gamecrazy that was attached to a hollywood video and we were actually treated with some respect, and we were sad when they went out of business and got replaced by a tanning salon for some god awful reason. BUT that's my story.

Extremely Photogenic Engineer Yeah, usually I do the same. The only thing I've gotten from gamestop in years is that I preordered the new pokemon games to reserve a copy. Everything else I try to either just get online or check if the independant stores around me have it. If they don't I go to amazon/ebay. And sometimes when you buy with amazon it's actually a store like that anyway that also sells online, so I figure it's better than gamestop.

Did you at least buy it on PC (I think it's silly to buy a Bethesda game on a console due to the fact that you can get more value out of the game on PC) also that guy sounds like one of my friends (who recommends anime by spoiling the major plot points). Should have just told him to shut the fuck up and that you don't want anything spoiled.

I had just gotten out of work, went to a game store cause I wanted a PS4 game. One cashier, one lady in front of me. The lady was complaining that a PS3 she bought in Ohio (this store is in NY) did not work when plugged in. The associate tested it out, and it worked fine. She said "Well my tv is brand new so its the console." She then demanded to exchange the PS3 for a brand new PS4 even though she didn't have a receipt and it worked just fine. She sat there screaming like a psycho as the line grew to about 6 people. The cashier then ignored her and took care of the line, which was fast and everyone was happy. The lady was so crazy in her shouting and threats I asked if she took her Prozac and if she is going straightjacket shopping. She called me a name and I said to just leave cause she is ruining everyones day. She threw the PS3 on the ground outside and left. Shouted as she left that the cops had her description, address, etc. She drove away quick. Worker was satisfied I was able to stick up for them, and the others thought my Prozac comment was suitable and funny. I later was hired for seasonal at that store. XD

I once had a guy at my local game store refuse to sell me a copy of FFX-HD because he wanted to buy it, despite the fact it's against store policy to store games away for yourself. Heard him talking on his cell phone saying he was saving it behind the counter for himself, later pointed to it and asked to buy it, he got in a twenty minute argument about it, where I threatened to tell the owner, who I know personally.
He finally relented, took it out of the back, punched the corner of the case to break it, then sold it to me.
All I said was "Thanks for the game, (His name)."
He got fired a week later.

I used to rent games from blockbuster. I had rented 3 games mass effect, banjo kazooie nuts and bolts (because i didn't know better), and Mafia II. Rented them out for 2 weeks played through them had fun (not with nuts and bolts). Went to return them and the store closed down. And apparently there wasn't another blockbuster around for miles and miles. So I couldn't return them and they kept charging me. I tried to call and get them to stop being dicks but they basically told me to eat shit. They charged us the full 60 dollars for each game.

kilroyjenkins1 Back in ancient 1995, my older brother rented _X-Men 2: Clone Wars_ from our local Blockbuster. The store had already closed for the day when I showed up to return it, so I deposited it in the slot. Big mistake.
They called us and claimed we hadn't returned the game. My brother went over to sort it out but they insisted the game was in our possession and that we either return it with ever-mounting late fees or buy it outright. We maintained our innocence and things got nasty. After an irritating couple of months, big bro was disgusted by the whole affair and cancelled his membership. West Coast Video welcomed our business.

My worst had to be at gamestop. I don't remember what game it was, but I called ahead to ask if they had it in stock and the guy who picked up said "Yeah we have it." So I walk down there, which was about a 20-30 minute walk one way to get it. I show up and start looking at the shelves because it's kind of busy, and when the line is gone I go up and say "Hey, I just called like half an hour ago about a game which you said was in stock but I don't see it on the shelves." At which point he just scoffs, rolls his eyes, and says. "Duh, do you really think I was going to LOOK and see if we had it? If it's not on the shelf then we don't have it, so sad for you." That of course pissed me off because I'd walked in the middle of November when it was relatively cold to go get it, so I asked to speak to the manager. He just smiled at me with this shit eating grin and said "I am the manager." So I got his name from the nametag and called it in to the company. Went back two weeks later and he had been fired for impersonating the manager, because he was just some random hire that didn't want to get in trouble for not doing his job.

Mine are more mildly annoying. Edit: In retrospect #2 is pretty bad IMO
1.) Go into Gamestop to pick up a pre-order, has my game in his hand and keeps holding onto it while trying to sell me more stuff. After a few minutes to what effectively became him holding my pre-order hostage until I bought more stuff. I went and got his manager (who I normally deal and get along very well)
2.) This one isn't mine but one of my best friends goes into buy a few games for her Wii and PS3 and few games for my Xbox she and I can play together, well she's a Mormon so she doesn't play or buy M rated games, she plays stuff Ratchet & Clank, Spyro, Skylanders etc. Has an employee harass her, trying to get her to buy games she's not comfortable with, was being pushy and rude about how "real" gamers buy the games he was pushing. It's pretty much a requirement that I go shopping with her from now on because she's scared to go to Gamestop or the comic book store by herself.

I know how she feels - I am not afraid to buy a videogame I have interest within, like, I play GTA (not the more recent ones as I dont have the consoles for them) but, Im happy to buy games of the nature - I also play sonic the hedgehog -
I am fine going to the shop counter and asking to purchase a sonic the hedgehog title.
But theres some titles I wont buy because of the "fear of redicule" the fear that - buying this game for my enjoyment is actually "socially unacceptable"
I would not go into a store and buy a pokemon game for THAT reason alone. I know pokemons popular - but I would never buy one from a store, not that im a fan of the franchise or anything, I would not buy it in person because of the stereotypes that are made about pokemon fans,
then theres some people who are like O__O How can you not like pokemon!? they are not fans, but they play the games from time to time, and have played a number of the titles. Al the power to you, anyone who likes pokemon - but I feel uncomftable going to the store counter and saying - 1 copy of pokemon please (not that this is how we do things in the UK...)
I must admit a simular thing with animal crossing. (in honesty) although it does seem to be more nintendo orientated - although I do play nintendo games, just I ordinarily would not buy through a store directly.
Heck - I am considering Banjo Kazooie on the N64. I actually would like a platformer, I can spend time going around the levels and exploring - kind of like super mario 64, but not mario 64. the reason I have NOT purchased the game, is the fact the music - and how everything has eyes, and its more of a "childrens" game - of course, up for debate there, but my hesitation to purchase comes from others going,
your an adult - why are you buying this?
those who are completely comftable in that position - regardless of what it is, all the power to you.

(Disclaimer: I'm asian, so don't call me racist)
So I was shopping at an asian mom and pop game store, and no one knew anything about video games (except for the owner) and everyone spoke poor English (I know English is a hard language, but don't work in a place where talking to customers is a key part of the job) , I could automatically tell that the only reason why they got the job was that they were related, so back to the story, I was looking for a mirco sd card, so I was like "Hey, do you have mirco sd cards?" and the asian 18 year old FOB was like "For what system?" And I said "No, a mirco sd card" and he yelled "For what system!" Looking at me like I know nothing about games eventhough it was actually him that knew nothing and rolled his eyes. I just gave up after that and walked away. I know that I'm probably making a big deal out of nothing, but I won't tolerate that attitude, especially in a working place where I'm the customer, I'm not gonna give you my hard earned cash.

My BEST experience was at a Disc Replay in the Northern Chicago suburbs.
A buddy and I went in looking for an N64 to replace his broken one.
We picked out all the stuff we wanted. Console with cables, 3 controllers, memory expansion, rumble packs, and 6 games... they charge us only $25 for everything, in 2005!
My WORST experience was back in November of 2014 I ended up deciding that since I'm studying to be a game developer, I may as well get familiar with every portable system, since I already have experience with regular consoles and PC. So I head to Ebay to grab myself a cheap PSvita. I find a deal of $200 for the system, charger, 5 games, a 16gb memory stick, case, and ergo grip device. I HOPPED ON THAT DICK. I paid for it, and it shipped in about 2 weeks. It arrives, and there's only 2 games, and a Lenovo laptop charger... So I politely message the guy and tell him what's wrong. He replies saying that I'm lying, and to stop bullshitting him. He gets really mad and says that he wants it back and blah blah blah. I say no, and tell him to fuck off.
Days later, he messages me saying "Oh, sorry about the other day.... I actually need that laptop charger back, turns out I did give you the wrong one. Contact me and we can work something out." So I reply with "Are you going to pay for shipping with the extra money you got from the 3 games I didn't get?" He then rants more about how he clearly told me they were digital games (even though players can't transfer games between profiles on PSN anyways. But he never once said they were digital copies of games) and that I would be getting no refund or any payment from him, and that if he didn't get the charger in 5 days he'd call the cops and have me arrested for theft. I did nothing, and unsurprisingly, didn't get arrested or contacted by police.

Bullet1520 That did sound like a good deal - But that really sucked. One of the things I am always concerned with regarding EBAY (just generally to anyone)
Never buy pre-stock imaged items. Just incase, and that you should ALWAYS have image references - If you are a seller - I would say outright, as much freaking detail as possible.
Even if its not entirely relivant to trying to go - Great deal here, Just make sure under condition - it is CLEARLY labelled and stated, its this condition, and just go through each item - lets say, second hand PSP. Console - any small nics great, manuals, boxes, charger - condition of any other items included.
I recently bought (using birthday money) a gamecube with controller, memory card and sonic adventure 2, (including cables) all for 40 quid (the console and cables are around that price) System works fine, but missing a panel (weirdly) and the game was advertised as good working condition,
I mentioned about the panel being missing and some pink-stuff within the connectors which is a bit of a deal for me as I wanted to get the gameboy player at some point. and the game, would not run - at all.
seller got back intouch with me, appologised (I got some insight to them selling it in the first place) and had no idea the panel was missing or that the game was not working at all. as they tested everything around 6 months prior when they were debating what to do with the stuff. they offered me a refund of 5 quid for the game not working.
I then accepted and said I completely understand and bid them good day - got refunded and bought another copy of the game. advertised as GOOD working condition. This copy, scratched the hell up - but it DID work.
my first copy, was good condition, but just would not run at all - this new copy I bought, scratched like hell and works fine (for the most part) Earlier I was having a small gaming session on the gamecube and it gave me a disk error on a particular boss fight.
I wish people would be completely crystal clear on the items they were selling.
I actually have a stack of PS (Not the PS1 or PSX, its the PS) titles, I actually dont care for, that have been building up that I was thinking about selling - the total amount of money I could get from each individually on ebay (at the time) was around all in all 40-60 quid. I have not sold them at all (because I am not a seller and I cannot afford to do shipping/postage costs at the moment and have never done such a thing before and would rather not have to worry about that.)
Some of the cases had some cracks in them, and one of the game cases disk holder did not hold the disk in. But I ensured myself IF I made the listings - I would state which work, and which dont - because condition varied between, mint to scratched. and one or two unplayable.
The reason I would have them up for ssale, would be some people might be looking to get the manuals/cover arts - And would directly list it as that. and would say, I have included the disk because I cannot get it to work - you might be able to.
Different systems work better than others, either because they are newer or because they are worn out. My PS2 is a good few years old, and probably is worn out.

My friend and I were at Walmart, looking for a movie that was Rated R, it was this sick looking robot anime movie. Okay so we find it and we go to the self check out and slide the case over the scanner, it beeped and told us to wait for a employee. This old woman comes over and asks "Is this all you're buying?" and my friend replied with "Yes" and then she asked him if he had his ID, he did and showed it to her, THEN she asks if I have my ID, I didn't cause I wasn't buying the movie. She says "Sorry I cant let you buy this movie because you dont have an ID to show that you are old enough"...I'm 19, 6'4, and have a beard...I told her again that I wasn't buying it and that I was 19, she said "I cant sell you game since you dont have an ID to prove that you're of age." My friend and I look at each other, and he's like 2 feet shorter then me, exchanging eye contact as if saying this wasn't worth it. So we just nodded and handed her the DVD and left. I know it's store policy but my friend and I have done this many times and this was the first time an employee denied us service.

late reply but in retail if you believe the person is buying it only to give to the one next to them who has no ID or looks underage then you need to ask them as well, plenty of parents buying beer for their teenage kids and talk about it infront of the cashier, with that we can refuse to sell it as we feel we are helping it be sold to a minor which can get the store/company in big trouble.

Went to Gamestop to buy a game when another customer ahead of me held the cashier up for 45 min or so complaining how GS themselves needs to fix the online server for FFXI since he cant get on.
He demanded a refund and made the experience for the cashier a nightmare.
I cut the dude in line and made my purchase and he got offended and i thought he was going to start a fight...nope dude went to get his mom and she comes in and ask whats going on....Everyone explained and she looks at him...Yells and slaps him.

Very minor bad experience but here it is.
Since l was a kid I used to absolutely loved my local Video Game shop - Game Cash.
The dude was really awesome practically how Alpha just described 11:50 .
I used to always support it spent a lot of money there too. Even brought the shop a couple of customers that he made a great profit on. About a year ago he left and this Girl now runs it. I went there started browsing and I noticed she wasn't as friendly and whatnot but whatever.
I grabbed The King Of Fighters XII Deluxe Edition for PS3 before I was about to pay for it I noticed on the back of the game it said 'Includes the Soundtrack and Poster'. I was like oh that's cool so why she's grabbing the discs I noticed there was no Bonus CD or Poster so I thought either it's not included as it's used or she didn't notice or something so in a very polite voice I said excuse me but on the back of the game it mentions of having a CD + Poster. She gave me a nasty look and straight away grabbed the poster and cd from under the counter and packed it abruptly in too the case and was saying YOU KNOW ITS A USED GAME !!! YOU'RE LUCKY TO EVEN HAVE THE GAME. I was like yup.
Greedy cow wanted to keep them for herself it seems. Not fair in my book.

At a game stop when I was younger. I had just finished playing Final Fantasy 7 for the first time and wanted to try 8. I bought what was supposed to be a brand new copy of the game, but I guess the guys wanted to have a joke on a little kid and gave me an old returned copy that was scratched to hell and refused to play. When I took the game back and showed them the receipt and the copy of the game, they refused to give me another copy or my money back and decided to ignore me from then on. My mom finally stepped in and went crazy on them, causing a huge scene until the manager came to the font and apologized and gave me the new copy I paid for and my money back!

So this was one of my first experiences at Gamestop. I had been a 360 owner for awhile, but I recently acquired a ps3. Up until that time I purchased my games from Walmart. What I wanted to do is trade in my 360 games for ps3 copies. I thought it was simple as i give them dmc4 for 360 and they give me dmc4 for ps3 (so naive). This is obviously not what they meant by trade up. What really pissed me off was that I explained to the Gamestop employee what I wanted to do, and said "yeah, we can do that." After I sell all my games (about 12 games) he says I can afford like three games i traded but for ps3 with the money I made from the trade in. I was like wtf, then he plays stupid because I explained in great detail what I wanted to do. So I just told him to give my games back, I didn't want the money, I wanted ps3 versions of my damn games. This bastard says "I can't do that, but you can buy them back" I was so pissed off I didn't go back there for years. I realize I was completely misguided, but I explained to him exactly what I wanted to do and he ripped me off.

Tyesupersam94 Say a game is defective, then they give you a brand new copy, since the copy is new, you give them that game and ask for a ps3 copy, it took my friend 1 week of continuous stops at the store but he eventually traded 15 360 games for about 12 ps3 games.

Nel_Annette I was a recruiter for 6 months while I was on medical leave. I'll tell you right now that there's no limit we didn't go through to get people to join. We would go to Wal-Mart, Target, the local malls, didn't matter as long as we found young guys like us to join up. No one was going to kick us out, because who the hell would be rude to a soldier? We never straight up lied to anyone, but we were definitely "encouraged" to stretch the truth a bit here and there. I feel kinda bad about it now, but at the time I was young and the bonuses were too tempting to pass up.
Basically what I'm saying is never trust a military recruiter. They don't give a fuck about you outside of how much they'll get from signing your dumb ass up.

I have two stories, although neither of them have anything to do with video games.
Story 1: Three years ago I got my license to drive. I'm 19 at the time and my mom asked me to go get cigs for her before I go over to a friend's house for the night. So, I figured "fuck it" and asked her to give me some money for it along with some money for my own cigs. I go to Deep Springs Grocery since the store near my house was closed for an emergency and I enter in. Alright, this is an Indian owned place so you can just imagine the incense, bongs, pipes, tobacco bags, and porn magazines. I go up to the cashier and say I need a carton of Basics and a pack of Camel Reds. I already get the money and ID out and then he stops and looks at my ID.
    "That's fake"
I just look at him and just go "Say again?"
"That's fake. You no look like that."
Okay, the difference between how I looked and the picture were minor. I have a little bit longer hair, and a bit of chin hair. You could easily see the similarities. So I'm just completely lost for words. Here is how the conversation played out.
    "That's me dude."
"No it isn't. Why do you have longer hair now and not in that picture?"
"Because hair grows? And my hair grows at a fast rate."
"It has to be fake. I'm calling police."
"How about you call the fucking DMV and read off the DL number to see if its fake."
He calls the DMV and reads the numbers off. He nods, and says thank you. He gets off the phone and just looks at me. At this point, I'm irritated and just want my cigs, so I ask if he is going to go with the transaction.
"No. I'm not selling you cigarettes. You may have fool them, but you haven't fooled me."
"Motherfucker, are you high? What are smoking? I want what you are smoking"
"I'm not smoking anything. I'm not selling you the cigarettes."
"Call the god damn police then! I just want my cigarettes."
"Who are you buying them for?"
"Uh, my fucking mother? Who else? I barely talk to anyone."
    "Fine."
He gives me my ID, AFTER writing down the name and address, then I give him my money for the cigs and he gives me the carton and my personal pack. I leave and not 5 minutes before I get home, my mom calls about police officers looking for me. The stupid son of a bitch called the police on me because I was buying a pack of cigs for a minor. I get home, explain what happened, and they leave.
I guess karma has a way of hitting back, because he closed down after a month because of no business. I'm guessing that everyone else got sick of his shit and took their money elsewhere.
Story 2: So there is Christian bookstore in my town and about 7 months ago, I went inside just to look around. There were mostly Christian themed books, but there were some Stephen King, Jodi Piccoult, and Dean Koontz books. I browse around and out of the corner of my eye, there was a music corner. Being a fan of many kinds of music, I browse that. Lo and behold, there is a fucking Venom album. VENOM. Not just any Venom album, but their Black Metal album. Yeah. The one with a goat's head and a pentagram on it. Me being a metalhead, I said "Hell yeah" and looked for more metal albums. I shit you not, I came across Dying Fetus and Immortal. Well, I grab those as well and walk up to the woman working the register. I put the three CDs down and she just looks at me for a few seconds and says that she is going to get her manager. Well, considering this is a very Christian store, I'm guessing it's because of the metal albums I found. The manager comes by, grabs the albums, looks at them and says "I'm throwing these in the trash. I don't know how they got here."
I'm completely surprised and ask why and he said, of course, that the albums were very satanic and he is not going to sell those to me. Well shit. I just look at him and then he sees my Slayer shirt and then accuses me of putting them there. Okay, this is my first time in the store, and there were price tags on the CDs with THE NAME OF THEIR COMPANY on them. I ask him how would I have grabbed the price gun and put the prices on the cds, put the gun back, and then look around for them in the span of... 5 minutes. She say he doesn't know but that he wants me out and he was putting the albums in the trash. I laugh and just say "How about you just give me those albums, that I FOUND, in the GOSPEL rack, and I'll leave you alone. I will even give you the money for them."
I got a simple no and that I need to leave and he just walks out the back. At this point, I'm kinda pissed because two of those albums are legendary and one album is badass, so I just shake my head leave. However, I sneak towards the back, and see him put the albums in a dumpster. Yeah, fuck him. I'm getting those. So, he is about to walk inside when I just walk up to him, look him in the eye, walk to the dumpster, and grab the albums and leave. Before he went inside I just look at him in the eye and say "Thanks for the free albums, man. I was gonna give you money, but apparently you are too stupid to check your security tapes to see that I didn't put them there. But, hey, sometimes God works in mysterious ways." and just walk to my car.

+Sʜɪʀᴀᴢ I also have nothing but nice things to say about GameStop really, worst possible thing involved the PowerUp Rewards people, clerk told me I could use that account to pre order Black Ops 3rd DLC pack ( really loved Zombies ) so I did, when it releases I got no email at all or anything for the code, go the store and they say call the Rewards people, call them with their Sonic 2 music that plays for being on hold, which then cuts out since it doesn't loop, they say to talk to Gamestop, I go back and tell them what happened, we call them at the store instead and then Rewards people say my card doesn't even exist to them despite saying it did earlier and has been for years, clerk says "fuck it!" and just buys me the DLC code since he knows the customer support line sucks, besides that nothing really bad and the Gamestop store itself wasn't really at fault ( also they did let me swap out a PS3 copy of Black Ops for a 360 version since the pre order was for some reason under PS3 ).

My worst experience was about a year and a half ago when I was actually laughed at by the manager on duty at a Gamestop, who thankfully no longer works there. What happened was I found a very old giftcard that had 60$ on it, I don't remember ever getting it, but it was a giftcard depicting the original God Of War on the PS2. I thought, oh yay free game. I went in, asked for The Last Of Us and handed him the card. he made a simple comment that went something like, "I guess you lost this for a while huh?" referring to the age of the card. I basically said yes and then refused the 3 zillion promotions he offered. Though when he tried scanning the card it wouldn't read properly. He went to put in the code manually and at this point the manager walked over and saw the card, he then looked at me. Now I was in kind of raggedy ass clothing because I was working outside and decided to say screw it, then the manager laughed, called me poor (not entirely untrue but still rude), and said he wouldn't take the card because "It must be stolen it". I still got my game because the cashier still put it in manually and all that, he then wrote on the back of the receipt that he would report him as well as said that I should do the same on the website. Cashier guy was cool, fuck the manager.

Black Ops 2 midnight release at Gamestop. Bunch of arguing from "My KDR is better than yours" type of kids and the free red bull cans offered by gamestop employees kept getting tossed in the crowd, which resulted in people getting doused in red bull (Some hit by the cans) and non stop bitching about releasing BO2 before midnight. December 20-something Christmastime 1996. The year of Tickle-Me-Elmo, supply was very low and demand was very high. I was in Toys R Us with my brother, we were picking up an N64 game. The P.A. I know this is the exact opposite of what this video is about, but I actually had an amazingly awesome experience at a Gamestop one time. I went into one just a few years ago looking for a copy of Silent Hill 2 for PS2 since I unfortunately had to sell my own copy many years ago (Silent Hill 2 probably in my top 5 favorite games of all time btw), and the employee working there sold me the one copy they had in the store, in near mint condition, that he was holding on reserve FOR HIMSELF.
Needless to say I thanked him like 100 times and called into the store later to tell his manager just how awesome his employee is.

This isn't necessarily the fault of the store, but the people In it. I was about 12 or so, And I went to go buy GTA: San Andreas (note that my mom was in our car). I got the case and went to checkout where was a line. There was this older guy behind me, about 30 or so, and we sparked conversation. He was actually getting a game for his daughters. That's when he asked what game I was buying. I told him and he about fucking exploded. Apparently he was highly religious, and he started going on and on about how the game was going to ruin my life, and how he was sad to see a poor soul be lost to God. He then stormed out of the store. That's Utah for you!

course a week later I came back with 50$ in pennies to buy a game and the same manager was like I can't take all these to which I told him he can ether take the money or I'm throwing them all over the store and he'll have to spend all day picking them up.

My worst game shopping experience was when i went to my local game store. I was looking for some games for my PS4, I was mostly looking for fallout 4 when suddenly this guy shows up, description wise he looked like he was in his late 40's and had a seriously creepy smile and asked me: "how much money did you bring?" I brought 30 pounds (over 41 dollars) and I lied saying I didn't bring any and I was just browsing. So when this guy ( let's call him Cain ) exited the store I had double checked he legitimately left so then I bought a few pre owned games for my 3DS. So after I exited the store i had the strange feeling that I was being followed and when I turned around Cain was there and was in a shitty hiding place. That was the proper time I thought of high-tailing the fuck outta there out of Cain's view. I chose a pretty dark alley and hid behind a dumpster. I hid there for 10 minutes until I saw Cain walking by with what looking like some sort of knife, I then called the police.

But we walk in and the 45 year old dude just watches us like a hawk so I got to grab a copy of Arkham and he went "hey you get out now" and I said "why, what did we do?" and he was acting like we were gonna take it. He even got a big dude to push us out so one of my friends Stephanie was all 'your gonna be an asshole well here you go" so she sees a stack of boxed Ps3' and did like a fucking chun li high kick and knocked them out of the box. i already left the store before it happened. Mine was at Target of all places, really. It was the week before Memorial Day and I was saving money to go to a Anime Convention at my state's capital for the weekend with some friends. (Animazment if you've heard of it.) I had a few games I didn't play anymore and I was like "Eh, I can sell these somewhere and get some extra cash." I found a sales Paper for Target saying that they gave out x3 the trade-in value for games for the week only. I looked ALL over the paper for any catches/small print/ect. and it seemed legit and the nearest Target was rather close by (Driving Distance at least). So, me and my mom drive up there, and of course since it's dealing with games, I head over to the games section with games in hand. I asked a Worker there and showed him the paper and he said "Oh, that's not for this store, this is for Target Mobile stores only." I asked him to point out where it said that and he refused. Frustrated, I try to leave the store, but not without another worker chasing me down and trying to pull my games away from me. She thought I had stole them. Why? Honestly, I think it's because I'm an African American male in an area mostly populated by Caucasian people. No alarms went off, police weren't called, there was no reason to think that I had stole them. Hell, I saw myself on the camera feed walking in with them. This was like two years ago and I have yet to set foot in a Target again.

One of the venders thought I shoplifted from them and took my Ds away, I tried to explain to the guy it was mine and just turn on the system you'll see my name but he wouldn't listen . He grabbed my arm and told me to take him to my mom. Problem was I didn't know where she wandered to, she just told me to stay put at the games section till she was done. oh i have a funny one.
So as a girl, I grew up with a mom who played video games (i'm talking atari and nintendo back in the 80s) and got heavily into gaming thanks to her. When we moved from FL to WV my mom bought a Gamecube FOR HERSELF to play pikman. It was when we were at the store that the story is funny. So we're waiting in line and my little brothers are running around looking at games and being quiet thank gods, and we get up to the register. They come running up and ask to have this game and that game..yada yada yada. The dude laughs and asks if my brothers are excited to be getting a gamecube from their grandma. My brothers go, "We're getting your gamecube mom?!?" The guys face is confused as fuck because my mom looks older with her white hair and I'm 10yrs older then the younger two, plus I looked like I was 21 when I was 17. He is beet red at this point as my mom is telling my brothers they might get to play her gamecube if they do all their chores, while I've walked out of the store dying in laughter. My mom currently owns a Wii/WiiU, a 3ds, and plays games on her ipad and she's nearly 60! XD

Thankfully, I haven't had any *AWFUL* shopping experiences. But, I can think of 2 somewhat recent occasions that were questionable...I'll try to keep em short and to the point.
1.) At Wal-Mart with intentions to buy Resident Evil: Revelations 2 for the Xbox One. I find the game for the 360, but not the One. I ask the employee if he happens to know if they might have it for the One. He immediately says "No we don't." Basically before I can even finish my question. I decide to get GTA V instead. Just as we turn the corner to head for the register I spot the game within my peripheral vision. It's sitting horizontally at the very bottom in the display surrounded by 360 games. He says "Sorry, I didn't know." Yeah because you didn't make *ANY* effort to check, you just said no.
2.) At a local game store, I spot Eternal Darkness for the GameCube. Guy wants $45. I ask if he'll negotiate with the price at all. He says no. I go on Amazon on my phone and show him I could buy the same game complete, for $24. He says "But, you don't want to wait for shipping, right?" Nah I can wait I tell him. I ordered it right there from my phone in the store and leave. Get it in the mail 4 days later. :D (Also it doesn't have that Players Choice crap on it either.)

So they leave saddened since they haven't been able to find it, I was just browsing and I see the CoD xbone at the bottom of a shelf, it wasn't with the xbone merchandise, it had it's own shelf, so I just try to look for the couple, surprisingly they were looking at toys, and I told em there were there, and they were pretty happy and thanked me.

So one day when I went into Gamestop to sell some old Wii games.
How much do I get offered for like 5 games in great condition, each complete? About $7.
My vision starts to blur. I feel lightheaded and stumble around the room dizzily. In my daze, I bump into the Nintendo section.
My eyes happen upon a copy of Pokémon White 2, no manual and a bit of water damage on the cover art. Full price. THAT GAME HAS BEEN OUT FOR YEARS.
My legs feel weak. I suddenly find myself kneeling on the ground, clutching my abdomen. The pain is crippling.
I keel over, realizing MY KIDNEYS HAD SPONTANEOUSLY LIQUEFIED.
A bright light blinds me. Game over, man.
...ok in all seriousness I've been lucky enough to never have a bad experience shopping for games. At worst I'd describe it as "happened". Literally the most un-notable shopping experience ever is the worst as it's ever gotten for me.
Hearing these horror stories makes me so glad to have always had decent stores near me.
EDIT: Ok I though of one less than decent experience. I bought a used copy of Mario Sunshine from a Gamestop near my grandmother's house. I get back and find that the disc is scratched to hell. I go back the next day and say, "Hey this disc is scratched to hell." The guy behind the counter looks at it, tosses it in the trash. "Wait here." He comes back from the store room with a more or less pristine disc.
    The end.
I mean, I was a little annoyed they didn't check that the disc was in an at all usable condition before selling it, but all in all it's nothing horrid. Just a little less than decent.

One day I go to this Gamestop at my Mall, I go to buy Kingdom hearts 1.5 for my PS3, I wanted to buy it new, buy when I go to calmly pay for it, this asshole Gamestop employee named Mickey kept wanting me to buy a pre-owned copy of the game, I keep saying no I want it new, and he keeps arguing with me and just harassing me and he says "okay you could've got it $10 cheaper just saying" I know I could get it cheaper but this is Kingdom hearts, my favorite video game series and I wanted it new, and he just kept annoying me. Luckily I moved so I never have to see that jackass ever again, In fact after that I avoided that Gamestop ever since.

RisefromyourGRAVE Well that's another reason why Gamestop is a big clusterfuck corporation that doesn't know what their doing, now that I think about it, it wasn't really a big deal. But still if Gamestop wants their customers to keep shopping there then they need to treat their customers with respect when they want to buy something and not try to shove a game down your throat.

Alright I got a story for you. I went in to a GameStop once to get the physical copy of the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft the day it came out. The guy working there asked me if I had it pre ordered. I told him no and he just started going off on me. He could of just told me sorry the game came out today and you need a pre order to get it. But instead he starts giving me attitude trying to lecture me about the importance of pre ordering well at the same time his voice is gradually getting louder and more angry. Then he somehow shifts to rant about how less PS3 and 360 games will be made when Xbox One and PS4 come out. Then he starts talking about how games will all be all digital only one day and how GameStop will go out of business because of it. By that point he was on the verge of screaming. And he was doing all this with a bunch of people in the store. Before he could go any further I was just like okay whatever bye. Maybe I was in the wrong thinking i could get the game with out a pre order. But the guy didn't have to be a dick about it.

DARKSIDE X Anyone who has been playing in the past year knows not to preorder one goddam game anymore. Aside from a select few indie gems, not one game has come out in a proper state, and almost every major triple-A has been shit, even unplayable at launch. And as is the case with the latest Batman, still are, months after release.
So "Mr. Importance of Pre-Order" can fuck right off a cliff.

DARKSIDE X I don't know what the guys problem was, because last time I asked somebody if they had animal crossing new leaf, and the guy asked me if I preordered I said no, and he just gave me the game to buy. and it was at a gamestop also.

the worst experience i had is when i walked to my local game store early in the morning to collect a pre order got it walked back home there was no disc or manual it was just an empty case so i rang the store back up and waited on hold then i explained the shituation everything was ok my roomate wasn't awake yet so i decided to walk back and i eventually got the game and they gave me some free knick knacks then i got home a played it the experience wast that bad it was just disappointing to come home to find nothing in there

The worst for me was purchasing an OPENED video game from Game Stop, priced as brand new. I paid $60 for a game that was taken out of its original shrink wrap. To some that's trivial, but to me brand new means original shrink wrap only! When you remove that it's automatically used and should be priced as such. Anyway, after that happened I now purchase my brand new games elsewhere. I don't need employees getting finger prints and scratches all over my $60 video game disc. I'll pay $60 scratch/fingerprint free at Target or something.

ashley johnson I agree. Every time Gamestop does that to me I say never mind and cancel the purchase and they usually get all huffy. New means factory sealed and untouched.

    • @ashleyjohnson4139
      @ashleyjohnson4139 9 лет назад +2

Exactly! New means new. Amazon, Target, Walmart, Kmart, Best Buy, etc. all understand that. Gamestop doesn't for some reason.

I had pretty much the exact opposite problem. I went in to buy Epic Mickey 2, but my dumb ass didn't look at the upper right corner where it said it had to be played with two people. I go home, pop it into my Wii, and instantly realize my mistake. So I head back to Gamestop, it hasn't even been fifteen minutes, but they refused to take it. And that was how I blew $15.

One time my brother and I were at a local shop that was operated by one of our friends, so we would hang around there for a few hours, just talking about shit with the owner, having a good time. So, we're just having our conversation, when this woman barges in, dragging her twelve year old son by the wrist, and shouted "I thought I fucking told you not to buy from him!" at the owner. Everyone was confused as to what the fuck was happening. Then she goes on about how her son sold them a game, and how they should know better than to buy from a kid, and how it should have been obvious that he didn't pay for it with his own money, and just causing a scene. And pretty much everyone else in the store was a regular, so we all sort of knew each other, and we're sticking up for the owner. My brother told her something along the lines of "well, maybe you should make sure your son knows whats acceptable", and then she turns to him and starts calling him an obnoxious little shit, and how he should mind his own goddamn business.
The owner then decided he just wanted the bitch out of his store, so he asked her what game her son traded in. "I don't know, Soul Caliber V". That game was still about a month away from launching. And she didn't fucking believe anyone when we told her otherwise. Finally, we found SC IV on one of the shelves, and convinced her that it was probably the game she was thinking of. Then she tried to explain that she shouldn't have to pay anything for it, since it was already hers, and she wasn't going to pay $8 for her own game. Five minutes later, she finally gives the owner some money, and leaves.
As soon as the door closed, some said "wow, what a fucking bitch", then we all laughed and talked about what happened for the next half hour.

Gamestop employees are some of the worst people ever. I remember when Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate came out they tried selling Monster Hunter 3 instead telling me that's the newer Monster Hunter game and telling me I was wrong. That's why I buy all my games on Amazon now.

so when I was about 12, I went to gamestop to sell a few games with my dad. When we got there, they took a look at the little stack and said they would buy it for $6. My dad got pissed saying that this is a stack of complete games in great condition, and there is no fucking way this stack of games is only worth $6. We left after a few minutes. Not even 30 seconds later, a dude was about to walk into the store, stopped us and asked, "you try to sell those?" Dad said, "yeah" He takes a look at the stack, and just says, "I'll give you thirty bucks for them." Deal, and we left.

    Subway
anything about Subway deserves to be discussed, because all they hire are incompitent teenagers who are either slow, lazy, and clearly dont care about the customer, or dont speak English *at all*, makng it literally imposible to communicate with them. amazing just how hard it is to pick up condements and place them on bread. i mean there is NO work to it; you pull out meats and vegtables and put them on the damn bread, yet the teenagers Subway hires clearly are unable to do such basic motor functions
people like Subway's employees dont deserve $15 an hour. if they work like THAT, then they ight as well be taken as slave labor

5persondude As somebody who works at subway, while there are SOME Subways like that, every one I've gone to at least had line of staff where people get you through properly. For the most part it's people who work there because they want to.
And the reason most staff that get hired at most fast food restaraunts are like that is because those staff are looking for easy work that pays well enough and the people hiring are looking for new employees almost all the time since people come and go, and then the staff are hit by reality of life. The only reason "Higher End" places don't do stuff like that is because they do checks. Fast Food places generally give everybody the benefit of the doubt first. Trust me, if staff act like you describe at all, they don't last long.

When I was little I remember the game stop in my town used to sell DVD's, and movies since they didn't get much business. This was back during the huge anime bang with shows like Naruto, and such. So finding a bunch of anime DVD's like bobobo and azu manga daihou for three bucks a pop was a steal. I took them up the counter mind you I couldn't have been older then fourteen at the time. So when the cashier noticed I liked anime proceeded to start recommending all these hentai, and eichi anime he had behind the counter. It was wrong on so many levels because 1. This guy looked to be about forty, 2. I was a girl, and these dvds were the yuri tentacle porn type anime, and 3.My mother was in the store with me. She was so pissed at this guy she threw a fucking fit. We didn't go back their for awhile, but after a year or so latter I noticed he didn't work their anymore. Asked another employee what had happened to the guy. Turns out he got arrested for child porn.

The worst experience I've had would have to be in a Gamestop. So, it's about 7:30 pm, and I know I'm pretty late, but I was sixteen and I wanted to trade in a game and had to wait till my 19 year old sister got home. We reach GameStop and we see the lights on, but the door is locked. Naturally we knock on the door, and wait. One of the employees saunters up to us, and starts playing "Thriller" on a boombox (seriously a fucking boombox in 2014). He then proceeds to dance for 5 minutes before finally opening the door... and telling us their closed. My sister and I returned the next day, and guess who's at the register. He then hit on my sister, and she snapped so gloriously that we got three free Disney Infinity Jack Skellington posters. I still have mine in my room. I returned to the GameStop 2 months later and he'd been fired.

I stood in line to get a Wii for my brother in law, when they were hard to get at a midnight sale. The person ahead of me, fell over and started to cry out she was in pain. It felt really awkward buying a wii when they were dialing 911. She was sprawled out on the floor, and her daughter was crying over her.
It is something i will never forget.
