Very nice ticklin of the ivories! And the beat is just right. Nina was a highly talented pianist, but she barely ever needed to actually look at the keys while she was singing. Her hands are magic. Her soul is out of this world. And her singing has no imitators. Just precious, spine tingling, power.
That "White Noise" people are complaining about isn't white noise. It's the snare drums played with wire brushes. Very, very common in jazz and blues. In this case, I think it was supposed to sound like the leaves rustling. This is done in every performance of this song she has recorded. It is supposed to sound that way. If anything, the quality of the recording is slightly muted, and I'm betting it's because of the acoustics of the room the live recording was made in. You will notice this is a lot of older live recordings. If I'm correct, this is from At Town Hall (1959), recorded live at The Town Hall (123W 43rd St. NYC) which is still in use, but is the old fashioned half-bowl shaped auditorium style venue. Put the bowl together with 1950s tech, and it's not too hard to figure out where sound issues come from-the ones that are real issues.
RinnsKitchen agreed. (about the white noise). most people are probably listening on laptop speakers or a cell phone, or crappy computer speakers. it's hard to tell what's really going on without decent speakers. This recording is amazing though... im glad i happened upon it
The glorious and great Nina Simone...She finds so much to say in this classic tune and says it with such subtlety and conviction, that mid-way I found myself suddenly in tears...
belleza, ese piano, y la voz tan especial de Nina Simone, ese sentimiento, esa combinación armónica de instrumentos y voz , esto es parte de la felicidad
I compliment Nina, of course! You also for your choice of images. I think Nina adds something that dare I say, The Iconic Lady Day missed- and it's near impossible to fault Billie. Wish I could get into that time machine and go back and see Billie and Nina in a small cafe- drinking, next to me is Leonard Cohen...

Beautiful comment.
The emotional intensity of Nina Simone's music is beyond comparison. This rendition is so raw and honest.
I agree!
Lovely isn't it🤌🏾🎼🎶🎵🎉🍓🍹🌹💋enjoy.
Nina has been my inspiration since I was age 17 I'm almost 67. She has been and still is to me the greatest on all levels. May she rest in peace.
I've heard more versions of this song than I can count and this is one of the most unique and soulful. Love Nina.
