Nina’s voice is the most beautiful on this song, I hear you Nina and understand. I've never and Don't think I'll ever fight about a man, cause if he can be taken, he was never mine. If he does not care for or please me, I just dont want him.
My parents took me to see Nina Simone perform at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. It was either 1966 or 1967 and I was not quite a teenager. I have always cherished the memory of the outing with my parents who were from the west side of Chicago. I found her quite fascinating in both how she looked, her voice and piano playing. To this day I remember her fish net stockings! Just a short time later my mom passed away in 1969 and my dad in 1971. Nina Simone didn't want to be a singer, she wanted to be a classical pianist. This live recording here is one of the best vocal performances ever on record. As a bandleader she constructed a superb arrangement, with a ravishing crescendo throughout that you know is taking you to a powerful finish. (Where she ends up releasing unexpected jubilation while you're trying not to cry.) If ever there was a "triple threat" in music who would humble anyone, it is Miss Nina Simone. I can be steely, but when she gets to that first "for" at 0:29, the walls are down.
I’m so glad that life didn’t quite turn out as planned for her. As much as I love her piano, her singing can bring you to another place. She’s expert at bringing a room up in emotion from playing the tent revivals for her pastor mother as a child.

Be strong.. It's hard to accept but It's better than living with someone that will never love u. Be grateful. U would've be more unfortunate. Wish u the best.
Her artistry is reason alone to love her, much less her courage and her character, but this song has a special meaning for me. It gave me sass and laughs and courage, and maybe a little grieving too, when I left my husband's cheatin' ass.
Imagine being a man in love with a woman that tells another woman she can have you... ouch! Lol Nina’s songs are so powerful they hit me right in the gut such a soulful and powerful artist ...
I think she is singing this song to the woman who is taking her man away from her: I don't want him, you can have him. It starts with defiance, and then the truth comes out: all I ever wanted to do....and she lists all of the loving, tender and beautiful things that she had envisaged doing with him for the rest of her life. It's a heart breaking, beautiful song.
Absolutely. It's all about a woman trying to convince herself she doesn't want/need the sorry ass man she's still very much in love with, but no matter what, her heart won't listen to her head. It's one of the worst feelings and most challenging predicaments a human can experience. It SUCKS.
every time i go back to this song, i just imagine my self sitting on small café in paris while it’s raining and i’m having a hot chocolate and just feeling every little moment… god i can’t wait to graduate and start living the life i’m dreaming about.
I don't interpret this as a breakup song. It's a heartbreak song. She's just learned her beloved has been untrue, and she's heartbroken. Obviously, she still loves the guy. But in this song, she's only letting her heart break over him. It seems more likely that he is the one who left her, so she's working it out in her heart to get over him.
Nina, The Woman, The Voice, Her Gifts and Her Ability to reach your heart and your soul with Humanity and Grace and pure Power and Presence and Passion. Thank you Our Dear Soul Angel 🙏🌈
I feel there is a peace of me that lives within this song. The peace that has my best years, all my hopes and dreams. I feel, from that safety, the suffering in this song becomes only memory. The only alternative is the horror of losing true love and that scares me in reality so I send it to a world of dreams where the High Priestess rules supreme.

when she sings the all i wanted...i always burst into tears. i was never lucky to be loved back for any man so it hits hard. ak please hug your loved one and hold them tight u are so fortunate
Every young black woman should listen to this song at least once. You don't have to do everything your grandparents done. But it is a fact that is why she kept her man longer than the Woman of today.
I met a very attractive man who shamely pursued me at a time when I was just enjoying being alone. I enjoyed his masculinity, fearlessness, vulnerability,, and confidence. He was everything I wanted in a partner. Eventually I fell in love. He was married and now only God can help me walk away and pick up the pieces to move forward.
I really love NIna Simone because her songs mimicks my life in so many ways. She was so relatable 😪 especially when I saw her documentary on Netflix for the first time in 2015. I must have watched it like 100 times and counting. God bless her soul.
Obviously she still desperately wants him and wanted to carry on loving him and doing all those loving things she sings about, but as a protective measure, she has to tell her self she doesn't want him, but she desperately does. He's obviously closed his mind to her completely and has this new woman. That's my interpretation.
The worst thing for me about having a crush is not being his girlfriend and breaking up with him after. The worst thing for me about having a crush is that he doesn't like me back, and that I'll never have a chance to be with him. Add to that that he likes someone else. It's just soooo heartbreaking 😭💔 and this master piece of Nina helps me go through it! I thank Nina for singing and playing such a master piece! 💜

A few years back, my ex-fiance left me 3 months before our wedding for his ex-girlfriend. They married a year later... I wish I knew this song then.
Be strong.. It's hard to accept but It's better than living with someone that will never love u. Be grateful. U would've be more unfortunate. Wish u the best.
You know it now baby girl 🙏
This woman brakes my heart like no other.
So much talent!!! So much suffering. May she know she is loved and not forgotten
Nina is a rare breed of performer. She makes beautiful music on records and is superb in concert. She has great integrity and is quite inspirational
Her artistry is reason alone to love her, much less her courage and her character, but this song has a special meaning for me. It gave me sass and laughs and courage, and maybe a little grieving too, when I left my husband's cheatin' ass.
I can't relate experientially but emotionally, yesss, the song touched on my sass, laughter and curiosity as well! Such deliverance, bless.💛🐝
they just don't know Nina, they just don't know
" apricot juice and some buttered toast" Says it all. What a great performance!
Imagine being a man in love with a woman that tells another woman she can have you... ouch! Lol Nina’s songs are so powerful they hit me right in the gut such a soulful and powerful artist ...
Thank you for posting. Here it is 2019 and this is the first time that I have heard this song. Oh how beautiful!
JLJ me too , it’s so smoothly
Same here! Thank you
Same
Same 👐🏽
Right!
Yep
Absolutely. It's all about a woman trying to convince herself she doesn't want/need the sorry ass man she's still very much in love with, but no matter what, her heart won't listen to her head. It's one of the worst feelings and most challenging predicaments a human can experience. It SUCKS.
Shelly Duncan very much so.
When I listen to her I always feel like I am transformed to a different world where music was music..
TIMING IS EVERYTHING
Play this until you remember that you left and you are happy now. You won, you lost nothing ,❤️
OH NINA HAVE MERCY ON ME !
Nihad Badii Yes-I feel the same way. She just made you want more and more and more.
RIGHT FRANK :)
Good night !
every time i go back to this song, i just imagine my self sitting on small café in paris while it’s raining and i’m having a hot chocolate and just feeling every little moment… god i can’t wait to graduate and start living the life i’m dreaming about.
I’m in love with this woman. How on earth did she produce such great music!!
She is so exquisite.
,,,al piano es Chopin femenina ¡¡
So raw, pure, and full of internal conflict. This is a beautiful piece. My God!
Nina was a story teller through her songs, captivating, she was from another world❤❤
Never heard this song until tonight. Tears streaming down my face. My broken heart feels very understood right now.
Peter S., Please NEVVVVVVVVVVVVVVER delete this song!!!!!!!!!!!! I've looked for this song from Dr. Simone for YEARS and I have the CD, but it is soooooooo messed up and NO record store has had when when I've looked!!! You're THE BESTTTTTTTTTTTT!
Thank you much!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song was right on time. She can most certainly have him.
My God,this woman exhales talent!!!
I swear this woman put so much life into this song, every song really. Amazing artistry!
she was an amazing pianist. IO wish her singing skills didnt often overshadow how great she was at piano.
Yes, like Ray Charles, she was a piano virtuoso!
blue didn’t even know she played the piano ! Just wow!
I have this album. It was in my Granddad’s collection and he gave his collection to me about a year before he passed away. I play it every now and then; thankful he chose to share the music with me. Ever so grateful for both grandparents and their love of music and the arts. ❤️💫✨🕊🕊
Ok I'm crying right now
Mi too hits my soul like rain drops on my window in early spring _me
3rd week after breakup...crying a river right now
My mother use to blast this with other songs I thought was old people's music but I grew to appreciate this and other songs by her
The end to this song expresses unimaginable sorrow
I've met woman who truly taught me beautiful things. How to live. I'm grateful. Now it's in the fabric of who I am. Give him babies one for every year. Classic. 😊

They don't make music like this anymore! ♥️
They sure don't.
Pure unadulterated genius and black excellent. 2018
THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER. NINA! NINA SIMONE!
For that one who wouldn't sing this for me
This is how you feel about a man after he done you wrong
You could hear a pin drop while she was singing. It was so sad and intense at the same time. Many emotions displaying ❤💚💛 #LongLiveNina
I needed a song like this my whole life😅 because I've always liked people who liked other people.
They don't make them like you anymore Queen
Keep resting in power♥️
"mend his underwear and darn his socks" man, that's love. My wife and I loved this album. She died a while ago.
I would choose to listen to this on Valentine's day :-/ lol
Every young black woman should listen to this song at least once. You don't have to do everything your grandparents done. But it is a fact that is why she kept her man longer than the Woman of today.
Nina simone was on another level. I have an amazing canvas of her on my wall. Love her x
Yes indeed know the feeling. Wont play the fool any more. Time i was asserting myself and not about others
Masterpiece
Shout out to my aunt Charice who taught me all about Nina Simone activist singer and amazing entertainer.
@Mrs. NinaSimone thank you 4 sharing Life n a intimate way. @ROD man we made it. Peace
Just got through reading Anne Sexton's poem "For My Lover Returning to His Wife" and it made me think of this song.
Fantastica! Bella! Inteligente! Audaz! Valiente!.... Inolvidable, Chile te recuerda.
I feel some Chopin's vibe in the beggining 🎹🎹 it's just amazing how she could put in her songs classical vibes😇
Its amazing when Nina gets going on the piano, you know something is coming
OMG! Just wow Nina!!!
MANNNNNN, did this pop up in the right time. I DONT WANT HIM!!
To many Aretha is a Queen. For me it’s Nina Simone. 💎💎💎💎💎💎
She's Actually in Love with this Awful Man! Ladies don't we know her pain and tears.😥 💔
this is healing
La Diosa !!
Her voice sounds like silk to my ears. It's intoxicating.
Exquisite, with some beautiful photographs.
Obviously she still desperately wants him and wanted to carry on loving him and doing all those loving things she sings about, but as a protective measure, she has to tell her self she doesn't want him, but she desperately does. He's obviously closed his mind to her completely and has this new woman. That's my interpretation.
Nina, respect from Georgia🇬🇪💖🏵️🌸🌼
Wow! That intro - Nina Simone's fingers literally DANCING on DIAMONDs!!!!💃
Oh Nina! You were the epitome of everything real. Loved you then ...love you now.
the incomparable. the goddess. I am so sad I never got to hear her live.
I dont know how I've never heard this song before. It's so enchanting and heart wrenching. She sings the soundtrack of my life.
