Are you an Apollo user? Any tips or tricks to add here?
In the market for an apollo but dont know if a newer version is coming soon.
How many plugins can the duo run?
I got use to this bad boy in the studio. Working on my own as I type
This is a new Channel , I have been a member of your earlier one too , then you were gone for some time , nice to have you back, do some VO chain videos to mate- Thank you
I love my Apollo Twin X and yes - I've bought a ton of plugins! More than I need for sure but it's been a fun journey through recording history with all the vintage emulations. I'd buy it again it it up and died.
Cool. Looking to getting one soon. Your production is sick!!!. Well done
Husband got this for me for X-mas. Just starting to dive deeper with it so thanks for the video!
wow, that's a great gift! let me know if you need assistance.
Great video
got the solo, as rapper, singer, engineer and producer, the portability is amazing.
totally agree! glad you sound satisfied
Eye-opening video! 'Definitely surprised by the "..whatever you spend on the Apollo Twin X, you're probably going to spend even more on the plugins" statement. I was skeptical so I googled my way to the UAD plugins page. Man, you weren't kidding. Surprised not just by the pricing, but the volume of plug-in options. Overwhelming on both fronts.
what I actually meant was... you'll end up spending SOME more money on plugins than you planned/expected... but in reality... you could easily spend more money on plugins than the Apollo itself!! in fairness: they are that versatile, and that good. way cheaper than buying all that hardware. Ive probably spent $450 on plugins. which I think is respectable and I don't really have the need right now for more.
@@HomeStudioPro I have the twin X I just want to record my own voice and maybe have an audio from my PC coming into the live, do you think the DSP, will be overwhelmed, im probably going for the Shure SM7B
Great video! I pulled the trigger on this Apollo two weeks ago, and can safely echo what you said... it is WELL worth the money! I got into home recording about 1.5 years ago, started with a $100 interface, and cheap plugins - then the $300 Axe IO and it's bundled Aplitube. I've tried the veneralble Neural DSP, and was never satisfied. Everthing sounded like garbage! Must be me, right?... so I nervously bought the Apollo, "praying" that it would end my sonic woes. And sure enough, it's night and day. The UAD system, although not cheap, smokes every other interface, and their Unison and plugin technology smokes every sim out there. If you're serious about making your music sound the best it can, get this system!!! (and of course, a good set of monitors is a must as well!!)
well said! I think what you and i both learned is this... if you were aiming for the "top" (or close to it) from the beginning, could have saved a lot of time and money by just going for apollo from the beginning. although... you do learn some things on the journey and if you can sell or find a new home for that middle-ground gear, that's ok too.
Dang so is it fun being able to work fast
After ten months with it is it still worth it? thinking about purchasing
@@Godisgood137very much so!
By the way, this is all you need. You don’t need to get the quad version. All of their plug-ins will eventually run on your Mac natively most of the popular plugins already do. You only need the DSP for input monitoring with either a vocal strip, or a guitar channel with just a few plug-ins for monitoring purposes with low latency
Especially, if you buy Townsend L22 microphone and use the Sphere mic emulations, this is a treasure. No need to carry around your mics. It is amazing.
Thanx
What plugins to you recommend? Also your channel is gonna definitely grow you came out the gate with great quality.
Thank you so much! I like the SSL4000e, Neve 1073, and teletronix La-2a
Cool video. The Apollo Twin X was a finalist in my decision when trying to decide what "pro level" interface to go with. I ended up going with the RME Babyface Pro FS because the latency is so low even with plugins. On M1 Pro MacBook Pro, I'm getting 3.5ms round trip latency with plugins rolling and input monitoring turned on. Also, RME drivers are fantastic. This was a close 2nd though...it was the plugin cost and driver instability on Windows that deterred me from the Twin X.
For those that wonder, biggest thing with interfaces like UAD Apollo Twin (and RME like I mentioned above) is you basically hit the diminishing return wall, where you have to spend TONS of money to get "better."
i've heard UAD + windows sometimes has issues. On the mac side, i've had zero problems. but you probably made the best choice. thanks for being here!
Great video, Brodie. I am sold. I have been getting tired of having to deal with the mess of my ever-growing hardware chain and cables. I have been thinking about switching to Apollo Twin X and ITB editing. However, I am worried about the endless cost of plug-ins especially that I have a gear-acquisition syndrome. Do you have a video that describes the plug-ins you are using?
thanks for being here. yes, I have produced a few videos detailing the signal chains I use for specific microphones. some of them have been published... more will be out very soon. I think you can keep the plugin cost reasonable... demo periods are available so try them all first before you make any investments. I probably spent $400 and could have spent half that and got everything I needed on plugins. haven't bought much more since the very beginning.
I was wondering if you could share with me how you set up your UAD console for Zoom calls without having any crackling noise issues. I would really appreciate your help. 4:47
Hey I am planning to focus on my singing and plan to do a home recording set up but have no idea how and what to buy please help with any tips you can give me .
Hello, thanks for the video. Does the Level Knob clicks down when you press down on it ? muteing the sound like in the older apollo twins? or is just a regular potentiometer?
Which month during midsummer does this sale take place, exactly? And, how much is it reduced?
Is it also reduced on on Black Friday or Christmas? And, what is the exact sale price more or less at that point?
I am totally ready to get one of these units. Just trying to be a bit more cost conscious nowadays with all my purchases. Thanks!
Just found this channel after subscribing to your first one. Great channel! -Would love to see how you would create a stack with the U87 ai and the Twin for an audiobook. Thinking about getting a WA 73 EQ. Currently use the 88RS up top, into the Precision de-esser, into the C-vox, to the Massenburg, to the DFC channel strip. Minimal-ish on each, but it can sound not as natural as I’d like it at times.
that's a great idea! signal chain specific for audio book. I think I'll put that one together. appreciate it!
@@HomeStudioPro Yes! Thanks, man!
Can you do a comparison with Apogee Symphony Desktop?
Do you use the same plugins for every mic? I have a sm7b and Apollo twin x and am looking for signal chain recommendations for voice over. I know your other channel has an older video. Was wondering if you had any changes since then. Love the content!
Thanks for subscribing! I generally do use the same plugins with slightly different settings for each. I will have a few more signal chain videos coming out soon for each mic. Do you have a specific one of interest?
@@HomeStudioPro The Shure sm7b!
I would love to know how you set it up for your voice over/talking mic. Sounds great. What preamp/compression are you using?
ruclips.net/video/yQpv1eoWnFI/видео.html
enjoy!
@@HomeStudioPro thanks!!
Since all their plug-ins are going to eventually be native, all you really need is an Apollo Solo, or a used Arrow for a little over $300.
Hey great video. I am thinking of upgrading my current Apollo twin duo mk1 to the twin x but am not sure whether to go for twin or quad?! I want to mainly use it for tracking vocals but will use a few of the plugins for mixing too.
I have the twin X, and for just me... and maybe even a second channel, it's plenty. if you're using more than 3 plugins on a vocal chain... might be using too many!
@@HomeStudioPro thanks for the response and I decided to go for the twin x duo (like you mentioned). Think that will work fine in all honestly for my needs👍🏾.
i use PC at home and travel with my macbook pro, could i use this on both systems?
I have an apollo twin, I don't have the X but I got a thunderbolt adapter and it works on my mac havent got any issues so far but, do you recommend invest and get the apollo twin X??? Or should I stay with what I have?
+1 for having a huge mixer just for show lol. Do they sell sell refurbished units?
Hi can you help me with a given problem please, I have Apollo twin x and the plug-ins work but I can't open them, why don't they open?
Hello. Wish I could help but I’d ask UAD first. I don’t want recommend something unfavorable.
Have they ever opened? The reason I ask is, certain DAWs will have issues actually opening and displaying plugins if the DAW architecture is incorrect (32bit vs 64bit for example). Good luck!
Is it time to buy now with all the extra plug-ins or wait for the next generation Apollo?
i would have to think that all the existing plugins would carry over or their purchases would at least to any new hardware. hope that helps!
Just that question alone would make one think there has to be a better way and there is but you gotta do the AB testing with other companies.. UA the New Protools money grabber with no real audio benefits Don't rush to get locked into their so called echosystem LOLOL
Sooo... Plosives bug you but sibilance, not so much?
It’s a wicked,y good card. Not sure on twin x but twin only optical out….if these baby’s have optical in/out they’re killer squared.
good point!
What’s bull shit about them is you can’t bypass the internal built in preamps I want to I’m buying and external preamp and I don’t know if I need to upgrade or what because I want to not use the preamps
i think you can bypass them. just switch to line input? put the apollo after your pre. what are you using to power the mic?
@@HomeStudioPro I’m using a tube Telefunken mic so it doesn’t require phantom power 48v I’m using its own powered supple Apollo 48v not engaged
You don't try something else Too much money
I’ve spent well over $1000 and have maybe 10% of their plug-ins. It’s not worth buying plug-ins one by one or even when they’re on sale. Your best bet is to just buy the bundle for $1000 and get like 145 plug-ins Each plug-in comes out to like way under $10 each instead of $50-$100 each. It’s a one time purchase and you’re all done or you can get all of them for I think 12 or 1300 during the holiday sales. Be smart and get them all at once as a one time investment.
Yes someone who finally did the homework like I did.. It's a trap like the old Protools days.. You gotta have it he says LOLOLOL
Lord help you if you have 2 sets of monitors and you click the “monitor” button on the X and you not only shit yourself but pop your speakers
Yes! But that's what my Monitor Controller is for & is for.😎
You need it... LOL come on man Sorry brother I tested and A/B with many other companies.. I never reach for UA because no real benefit in sound for that kind of money frankly the others were better..
I only care about converters
Do you use it with windows?
I use apple, almost exclusively.
Who “certified it professional”? 🤦🏻♂️
me?
Don't forget he said you gotta have it.. What a crock of %$%$ people.. Try every plugin company and pick and choose the best ones for you.. I did and guess what I never reach for UA plugins
