Truly a Christmas movie. In real life, Darlene Love, Roger's wife, Trish, had a hit Christmas song, "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" , from 1963.
Each year, near Christmas, from 1986-2014, she sang the song on David Letterman's late night show, on American TV.
Many folks have sung the song. You Tube has several videos of them, including a few of Darlene Love.

Ofc everybody has their own favorite, but if you like the first one, you can't really go wrong with the others. Danny Glover in real life is a big jazz fan. Thats why he got the jazzy saxophone theme, and Riggs got the guitar riff - you didnt notice, most dont - but as the characters get closer, become a team the 2 themes become a harmony.
There are 4 Lethal Weapon movies - they're all fairly good... Yes watch them all - there is a 5th on the way... I dont know how it'll work, as Murtaugh is 5 years older than Joe Biden.

One of the best Buddy Cop Action Comedy Films ever made!
Before Mel Gibson was cast as Martin Riggs, Sylvester Stallone, William Hurt, Michael Biehn Robert DeNiro, Christopher Reeve, Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, Bruce Willis, Patrick Swayze, Christopher Lambert (Lamb bear), Kevin Costner, Kurt Russell, Michael Nouri, Charlie Sheen, Harrison Ford, Mickey Rourke, Nick Nolte, Matthew Broderick Sean Penn, Michael Douglas, Val Kilmer, Tom Cruise, Jeff Bridges, Alec Baldwin, Tom Selleck, John Travolta, Liam Neeson, Dennis Quaid, Pierce Brosnan and James Belushi were considered.
Before Danny Glover was cast as Roger Murtaugh, Brian Dennehy, Nick Nolte, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Warren Beatty, Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman, Robert Duvall, and Al Pacino were considered.
Before David Bowie was cast as Joshua, David Bowie, James Woods, Christopher Walken, John Lithgow, John Saxon, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Keith Carradine, Scott Glenn, and Tommy Lee Jones were considered.
Before Mitchell Ryan played the Villainous Gen McAllister Peter Boyle, Robert Duvall, Bruce Dern, James Earl Jones, Lee Marvin, and Richard Jordan were considered.
Shane Black's original 1985 script was a lot darker and violent than the movie: The Sniper scene in the Director's Cut, there was one dead kid on a gurney, and Riggs, rather than shoot the sniper with his Beretta, he blows up the guy with a rocket launcher, and the draft ended with a helicopter chasing Joshua, who fires a napalm missile at it, causing the helicopter to crash into the Hollywood Sign. Murtaugh kills Gen McAllister while he is driving a trailer truck filled with heroin which crashes and explodes over the Hollywood Hills, raining over the burning Hollywood Sign like snow.
Riggs kills Joshua by ripping out his eyes with his fingers.
Riggs was an assassin trained by the CIA and had been mentally unstable since the Vietnam War ended.
Murtaugh accidentally killed a fellow soldier in training with his bare hands before he left to fight in Vietnam.

Mel Gibson's scene at the beginning of the movie was soul-crushing for me as a teen when this was new. Holidays can be so difficult for people, and having lost his wife to a tragedy just makes it so much worse. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a real thing during the holidays. As a kid growing up, the only time you would hear traditional Christmas music was during the 2 weeks just before the 25th. Now, stores are putting out Christmas displays early, and radio stations are playing Christmas music right after Halloween. It's very depressing the way commercialism has taken over.

On the day my mother died I went for a walk. I passed a park where a child’s birthday party was taking place.
I had a bit of insight. Here I was in morning for my mother and these children are having the time of there life.
When you are having the best day ever, someone else is having the worst day ever.
The inverse is also true. When you are having the worst day ever, someone is having the best day ever.
So if you are having a good day, don’t let these facts get in the way of your happiness. Especially if you can’t do anything to help the ones having a bad day. You’ll have you own bad day some time later, so enjoy the good days.

One of Mr. Gibson's early movies is worth seeing, Mary... based on a novel by the great Colleen McCullough who's most famous for THE THORN BIRDS. It's called TIM (1979). It's about a worker with cognitive issues who falls in love with an older woman, one of the people who hires him for odd jobs. As you can imagine, the townsfolk think it's a predatory situation... but it's really beautiful. It was remade under the title MARY & TIM (1996), which was good, too... but that one was made-for-tv, so more difficult to find, I imagine. #MoviesWithMary

"How did it get dark that fast?", "How did he happen to be there?", it is a slippery slope

But there are limits. You, as the viewer, should be expected to understand the convention of the story, an action story especially (a barrage of bullets don't kill the hero in the first 15 minutes, no joints get sprained after spectacular jumps and falls). But there are points of narrative expedience or just flat-out lazy filmmaking, which may blur the lines of movie and reality.

That's so funny. You do a reaction video to recover from a difficult week and I watch a rection video (you) to recover from a difficult work-week. It's a win-win situation. Thanks Ms. Mary.

Gibson is my favorite actor right now. My favorite movies with him are: We were Soldiers (based off a true story) and Patriotic (loosely based off history). A lot of folks really like Braveheart. I didn’t, probably because I’m too familiar with the source material.

Mary, some movies to watch when you just want to have fun. "City Slickers" has Billy Crystal and the guy who played his best friend from When Harry Met Sally. You'll like it. "Crocodile Dundee." Lots of fun. "Dirty Dancing" is just a nice movie all around. "Steel Magnolias" is a lot of fun because of the cast, but it does have some heavy parts in it. Really worth watching. "Meet Joe Black" is one of my favorite movies with an interesting story. "The Hudsucker Proxy" is a movie you can watch again and again. "Dave" is a fun movie. "How to Train your Dragon" is great. All three are really well done and a lot of fun to watch. Best wishes.

It takes a great crew to make a great movie, and this is one of those movies that got all things right in the making. And the three sequels are all a great watch so do see them- and they are not holiday themed so you can watch them at any time. It has that 80's feel for sure, it came out after the big action classics such as Terminator, Commando, Aliens and Top Gun. This was a good direction for the action movies to go.
Oh, just had to go look up some trivia on IMDB, and this one is gold: "To add tension between the actors, the director told both Gary Busey and Mel Gibson it was the other who kept eating the last waffle. " 😆

Hi Marie! This movie really set the tone in the 1980s for so-called "buddy cop" movies. It was a great movie, certainly for the action, but as you probably noticed, both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover gave their characters depth and had great chemistry between them, ultimately coming to understand each other. This was a winning formula for what would go on to become a popular film franchise. As previously mentioned, you're going to really love the next one! Great review! Quick note: If you're planning on watching "Braveheart" and really like that Mel Gibson movie, then you really check out "The Patriot." Another great Mel Gibson film, IMHO.
