Lethal Weapon is one of the rare franchises that hold up from start to finish, they are all great... I hope you do all of them..... Loved this react, you guys make me laugh!
I'm so happy you're going down the Lethal Weapon rabbit hole. I personally love all four movies and Mel Gibson is absolutely phenomenal in this role he brings so much emotion to this character it's outstanding.
Gibson's portrayal of Riggs pain and hopelessness is beautiful and drives his character through the whole franchise and his friendship with Roger is the anchor which keeps him from going completely over the abyss.
"I'm too old for this shit." Roger Murtaugh. December 1986. Before Danny Glover was cast, Brian Dennehy, Robert Duvall, Dustin Hoffman, Martin Sheen, Robert DeNiro, and Jack Nicholson were considered for the role of Murtaugh. Patrick Swayze, William Hurt, Mickey Rourke, Christopher Lambert(Lamb bear), Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, Matthew Broderick, Richard Gere, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, and Harrison Ford were considered for Riggs. James Earl Jones, Peter Boyle, Robert Duvall and Gene Hackman were considered for General McAllister. David Bowie, Christopher Walken, Brad Dourif, Willem Dafoe, and James Woods were considered for Joshua. The script was a lot different than the final cut of the movie: The opening scene was going to involve a helicopter chase involving Martin Riggs trying to stop a hijacked armored truck. A speedboat chase during a swimsuit competition. Riggs and Murtaugh going after the bad guys, who end up in a fiery crash, where the villains meet their end. This was also the original ending to The Last Boy Scout. And the climax was very different: It was going to involve a semi truck filled with cocaine blowing up over the Hollywood sign where it would rain down like snow.
If you're a Cheers fan, she was Woody's equally not-too-bright girlfriend Kelly. Took me far longer than I'm proud of to realize that. In my defense, I wasn't focused on her face when I first saw it at 11.
@@ryanclark6402 NOT a problem at all!!! I was watching reruns a few years ago, and realized she was one of the few characters I couldn't remember seeing in anything else since Cheers as a kid. When I saw this movie and "Amanda Hunsaker" listed on her filmography, I almost had a stroke. I saw sweet innocent Kelly topless 50x times and never knew🤣🤣🤣
The jumper scene is the classic difference between '80's movies and modern movies. Today Riggs would be talking him down by sharing his own pain and developing a bond with the jumper. '80's movie Riggs just jumps them both down and solves the problem quickly and also with no one getting hurt. God, I miss the "80's. Lol.
Thats because blowing up a huge bouncy house generally doesnt happen in real life, nor do they usually have the time to set up something like that. Especially without the jumper noticing
One loft the biggest lines in the film is, "I'm too old fur this shot." Both Danny Glover and Mel Gibson were about 10 years younger than their characters. Mel was only 13 in 1969, a tad using for Nam. The series (4 total) adds more comedy as it goes. The most ridiculous part of the film was the ending fight. Murtaugh's wife is Darlene Love who is a signer and is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She sang a bunch of hits in the 1960s including "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." I've seen this film enough that I know that Dixie's house explodes themoment the plane in the background reaches the fireplace. I wonder if anyone on that flight saw that explosion. The guy who holds Riggs at gunpoint at the beginning is the father of Anthony Kiedis, singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
This is one of those movies where the sequel is just as good of not better than the original... It also digs deeper into Riggs backstory... Plus Joe Pesci
The entire Lethal Weapon franchise is great! I would also like to suggest the Last Boy Scout. It’s one of my favorite movies. Bruce Willis and Damon Waynes are gold. Love you guys!
I'm really happy that you guys are going down the lethal weapon rabbit hole. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover make the perfect buddy cop duo in my humble opinion. This one is definitely the darkest with some humor but they get funnier as the series goes along. My favorites are 2&3.
I'm a Vet and the ending is more of a brotherhood who's the best of the best type thing. So Riggs and Joshua who were both crazy in their way and ex Spec Ops had to see who was the Alpha. Great movie.
Might be Mel's best role. Incidentally, I think jumpers actually are sometimes referred to as "blood angels" when they land right, because they leave a gruesome outline. This whole franchise is fire. If you like this one, you'll like them all.
The Vietnam outfit called Air America that Michael Huntsacker refers to when talking to roger was also made into a film around the same time, also starring Mel Gibson along with Robert Downie Junior, it's well worth a watch, same tone as Lethal Weapon, comic but laced with a bit of reality. Worth you guys putting on your list too.
OctoKrool saved the day …I was searching for things to watch and was like come one surely OctoKrool will have something…but you didn’t but then and now here we are day saved by OctoKrool WOOOO!!!
"Soon as you fuck with someone's family, All bets are off" You guys REALLY need to watch the sequels now, at least the second one, kinda brings the messing with family into play, no spoilers beyond that
Next: Die Hard Series, Gone In 60 Seconds (2000, and 1974), Need For Speed, The Car(1977), Christine, Bad Boys 2 and 3, Twister(1996), Back To The Future series, Superfly (1972), Live And Let Die(1973)
Guy in the red flannel in the drug scene 6:45 is the dad of the lead singer of the red hot chili peppers. He used to do hard drugs with him as a 12 year old in the 70's.
I'll join the band wagon, in saying that you need to watch all four. Such a good series. Once again, I enjoy your reactions very much, please keep them coming.
Yeeeeeessssss!!!! This makes my crazy day so much better, they're all awesome in their own right I hope hope hope you guys do them all you won't be disappointed!!
Great choice guys! If you are doing the whole series now, make sure you watch "Loaded Weapon" (1993) after Part 3. It's hilarious and is a perfect follow up!
I was still years late to this and remember how unique I found how they introduced Riggs. Oh he's good, he's funny, he's such a badass that he rescues himself from a hostage situation-- But unlike a lot of clichés of the era preceding it, it then IMMEDIATELY tells you why he didn't care about getting shot in less than some blaze of glory. That would've ordinarily been some middle-second, or crux of the third act, sort of thing. And they get away with presenting someone with nothing to lose right away, by pairing him with someone you start off knowing and then getting the implication of what he could lose. It's a classic formula, and not the first of its kind, but it sort of became the definitive model for adapting the tv buddy cop trope to the big screen, when it really made a difference.
I always love your generation's appreciation for what we saw in theaters years ago as well-done films. We talked about this for weeks in school after seeing it in theaters. This and Beverly Hills Cop were conversations for weeks. We were so lucky to have these great films in the 80s. Great reaction!
I hope you guys watch all for of these. They're all a fun time. I remember seeing the 4th one in a crowded theater. One of the best movie going experiences I ever had.
Great reaction as always!! Another classic. Rumor has it... that a new Lethal Weapon has gone in production. ( Dir. Mel Gibson ) both Danny Glover and Mel Gibson reprising their roles.
While there’s something to be enjoyed in all of the Lethal Weapon franchise, this will always remain my favorite. Riggs having that “I’ve got nothing to loose “ attitude actually made him more lethal. Good reaction guys. ✌🏼😎😊
You needed to watch the extended addition. Also the 2nd one explores more about Martin's wife! Also it's got the great Joe Pesci as the wonderful Leo Getz!
Mel is a fantastic actor... This scene, when he breaks down about his wife is one of the most impressive in history of acting. I love this man. BTW, the "director's cut" is better, I mean, I prefer it to this cut: Rigg is introduced with another cool "crazy" act, saving kids from a shooter in an elementary school. I miss this scene now.
"Why would you confess to lying in bed alone and crying?" This was the first domino that was knocked over in the 80's toward wokeness. Once we got in touch with our emotional side, there was no going back. More and more dominoes were to fall quicker and quicker until 2022
THE buddy Cop movie The Banter between the two is great. Mel Gibson is a natural when it comes to damaged/unhinged characters (wich seeing his tendencies can explain a lotta things and depsite what anyone says he is still one of my favs actors)
In my opinion, the movie where Mel Gibson really shows how well he can act is Conspiracy Theory (1997). It's one of these great movies few people have even heard about.
That one is really awesome... the mid eighties... the best era Hollywood has experienced... a small spot of time when screenwriters became big... the beginning of the ultimate duell Shane Black vs. Joe Eszterhas...
If you guys haven't seen it yet, totally want to see you react to the second Timothy Dalton Bond movie Licence to Kill, because it's grittiness definitely fits typical 80's raw action.
This was the first movie Mel Gibson had done after a 3 year lay off from making movies. He took the time off, to get sober, his drinking had gotten bad and his wife was threatening divorce. So he stopped making movies to get sober and managed to stay sober for nearly 20 years, before his epic drunken rant on two Cops, who pulled him over on suspicion of DUI in 2006.
Golden standard of the buddy cop genre. The first of 2 films in the same year from screenwriter Shane Black (Predator was the second). This and the 3 sequels were directed by the late, great Richard Donner. The TV series that ran for 3 seasons wasn't as good as the film series. But you should check out the 3 sequels (all great).
Why do you say your "common sense" tells you they've seen it? Do you think common sense is like Spidey sense? Unless you've got some super powers or watch them in their home 24/7... there is no way to know if they have seen it and are faking it for a reaction.
shame you guys didn't watch the directors cut, extra 15-20 minutes of extra footage in that version of the film, but still, this movie is a damn classic
" I did a guy in Laos from 1000 yards out. Rifle shot in high wind. It's the only thing I was ever good at." Too bad you didn't show that. One of the best parts...
The Lethal Weapon franchise is great!! Love all of them! They even made a show with Damon Wayans for about a season or two, but didn’t continue because Damon didn’t want to.
The fight scene at the end, I’ve watched lethal weapon loads of times and I’ve never thought about why the cops were all stood round while the fought… the only thing I can think of is that the probably knew what a badass Riggs is and they wanted revenge for the cops that Joshua killed before he went into the house, so they just let him go..
This movie perfected the “buddy cop” movie, the chemistry between Gibson and Glover is incredible in these films.
Lethal Weapon is one of the rare franchises that hold up from start to finish, they are all great... I hope you do all of them..... Loved this react, you guys make me laugh!

Gibson and Glover have great chemistry and it’s my favorite buddy cop movie of all time.
