There's never an explanation for why that guy at the bar freaks out on Willie, but my best guess is that he was molested by a man dressed as Santa when he was a child, probably got called his "little elf", and attempting to rape Willie was his way of trying to take revenge against an effigy of his childhood abuser.
The guy was very forthright about being off his medication. So for his own crazed, internalized logic, this act would make sense.
That's an interesting theory. That would basically explain why he says to the kid "I'm doing this for all of us," because he may have been assuming Santa was grooming him, and maybe from seeing them together earlier, he followed Santa to that bar to get his revenge.

That’s what I always thought too! Some super dark humor there. It’s dark when reading that but kind of funny when seeing it play out.
I was waiting on you guys to react to this one. So many classic lines too. This movie is a Christmas classic. Lol. Billy Bob Thornton played the role of a drunk, miserable, thieving, sarcastic loser role well. RIP to Bernie Mac and John Ritter.

The sequel to this movie was.... eh. But this is just brutally hilarious. Thornton hit a home run with this performance.
Useless cash grab, Bad Santa 2 does not exist for me.
Sequel was not bat but not so great. One thing is missing in the sequel. It's the Coen Brothers because they wrote the final draft of the script for the first one.
Billy Bob Thornton was going to direct the sequel, unfortunately they gave it to someone else, who did a terrible job of that sequel.

Lots of self loathing, and little self respect.
Willie is shown to hate his life and what he does so much that he self destructs
that’s what makes the speech he has so on point at the end when he calls Marcus and Lois monsters, not for preparing to kill him, but because of all the stuff they steal, taking and taking because they are empty inside.
Willie hates himself and what he does so much he destroys himself with drink, but Marcus and Lois don't even have that moral part of themselves to weigh on them.

This was a good reaction, you should also see Billy Bod Thorton's movie Sling Blade (1996).
Saw this in a theater in Phoenix. When he punched his little helper in the balls and his feet rocked up in the air,I didn't hear anything for the next five minutes. Couldn't even breathe. Next day felt like I'd done 2,000 sit-ups.

FUN FACT: Billy Bob Thorton was so into the role that he actually would start the day off w 3 glasses of red wine then would have some vodlka followed by a few budlights.
Why choose Phoenix? You can film a Christmas movie off season without anyone questioning the lack of snow.
Snow is such a rarity here that when I was in kindergarten, near the end of fall semester, the principal got on the intercom and suspended all classes for little while. She instructed everyone to go outside since it was actually snowing. It was extremely light and melted instantly upon touching anything. Still, in Phoenix this is a beyond rare event.
