As someone who lives in rural parts, I find videos of photo shoots in cities entertaining; I bet your New York video would be great and I’d definitely stomp that like button on it! I also like both prints, but I have a place in my hallway that would really be elevated having the warm colors of your sutro baths print hung in it.
Just 2 hints regarding loading 120 on to your reels. Your reel actually can fit 2 rolls of 120. Once you have loaded your first roll, push it all the way to the center of the reel. Now you can load the second roll of 120. Just make sure to push the first roll all the way to the center. You can make loading 120 very easy by using a piece of sturdy photo paper or similar as a guide. Cut a piece of photo paper to the dimension of roughly a 6x9 negative. While in the light, place it on the start of your reel, just before the steel ball. In the dark, just place your film on the guide and push it through. Now remove the guide and start winding. For me this is even easier than loading 135
Great photos and great video! Love both of those prints. I really love the square format of 6x6, there's something about it which makes me love shooting my hasselblad. Looking forward to more videos!
Love hearing you talk about your entire process! You kept it simple and easy to understand, and you have a very calm voice :) Would love the Sutro Baths print!
These videos are getting better and better! We definitely want to see a New York video. I also really like what you said about making your own art and developing how you personally want to.There is no right or wrong ways when it comes to creating art. Have fun out there homie!
You’re too kind! Just landed and excited for the next couple days. Thanks for taking the time to watch while you’re on vacation btw! Can’t wait to see your photos from it 🙌🏽
I feel the exact same way 😂 Thanks for sticking around! Balancing school and work life has been keeping me busy, but looking forward to working on more videos soon!
Thanks for the video. I hate loading film in the dark, so a bought a Lab Box. (Ars-imago). 135 and 120. Everything can be done inside the house in daylight or with the normal lights on. It’s a kind of rectangular box with a built-in cutter, spool and cranks. As with the tank, the chemicals go inside. Instead of turning, you use a crank. It’s also very economical. Only one film at a time.
I would be so happy if I won the Sutro Baths print! It sounds like I joined the Bay Area film community shortly after you moved. Hope you come back to visit soon!
Nice videos man! You 100% have that RUclips voice going for you haha. Throwing my name in the hat for the sutro baths print! Keep up the stellar work! Both on here and in you photography
Amazing video. I mashed on the subscribe button and shared with my small group of friends. I’m not here to win any prints although they are fantastic. I wanted to comment on your video post in general. The dialogue is smooth. It keeps people interested in the topic. You deliver content without any filler so it’s right to the point, yet you did it in an artistic way so I had to watch again to realize I was actually learning. That kinda blows my mind. Well done. You also commented about meeting people, connecting with them and feeling the visceral story behind the subject. The world needs way more of this and less guessing. There are so many people that want….need to tell their story. When you capture a story along with the related subject, that story tends to embed itself in the film without having to actually say anything. That connection is what makes you different. Combine that with these smooth videos and you will no-doubt grow this channel.
Thank you David for sharing and your kind words. I’m grateful that we had a chance to meet and share your experience and passion. Really means a lot 🙏🏽
Dust: I dry my negs on a hanger in a closet or better yet, in my shower with the curtain pulled closed. I’ll run the hot water for a couple of minutes before so the steam and humidity settles any dust floating around. Works like a charm.
I had the v600 too! If I'm not mistaken the real resolution is around 2400 dpi so scanning at 6400 will only give you bigger files, anyway amazing work as always, I'm not commenting for the print, I genuinely think both your photos and videos are awesome and I really like that you don't focus too much on gear :') p.s. the v600 has the digital ice so it can remove dust when scanning automatically, not sure how well it works but you should give it a try ahah
I like to flatten the film out first using books and leaving it over night. They should be flatter and more so once tapped down. You can also by ANR glass instead of tape, but would still recommending flattening the film as best as you can. Hope this helps and thank you for watching!
I’d suggest using a film holder with adjustable feet with all Epson flatbeds for the optimal sharpness. (Ektar is such a sharp film with smooth grain, don’t waste all that resolution!) The lens in Epson flatbeds always focus slightly above the glass surface and every scanner is different due to manufacture and transportation. You’ll probably have to experiment with the hight for a bit for the sharpest result. I also found scanning at 3200 dpi is great for applying sharpening without noticing the “pixels” when you look into the image. Scanning with Vuescan or Silverfast for DNG. files also works better with NLP, it seems to be more accurate for NLP to interpreting the color and more flexible for editing.
Thank you for sharing your insights! Since this video, I've made some adjustments to my scanning process and still learning as I go. I'll definitely check out your suggestions!
We love a sunny day in Portland! At the time of this video, I was using a Sekonic L-308X-U. I'm currently using a Sekonic L-508. Both are great lightmeters, but the 508 is a spot meter for more precise metering.
I’ve changed my scanning process since then. I’m scanning at 3200dpi resulting in approximately 4300x4750 for 35mm and 7500x7500 for 120 film which is plenty good for 8x10.
Very good job on that video. You have a great voice for this, keep it up. And, your images are awesome too! Sub'd and I'll be back. Yep, Ektar is one of my favorite film stocks too, love that film.

Loading film in the dark can definitely be tricky. My first time took me about 30 mins. Happy to hear you have a setup that works for you!

Awesome and interesting video, keep it up! Hope you're doin great over there in Portland, see you soon!
Thanks for watching Ryan!
i pre load my 35mm negatives in the reels since a good amount of it is already exposed to light. more videos please! i'll take any print by the way
It’s worked about 50/50 for me but definitely a good technique to mention. To me, more options means more chances to succeed. Thank you!
i really enjoyed your commentary
ill take any print! love the videos by the way
Thank you! Really means a lot!
another great video btw I'm interested in the sutro baths print
Thank you!! 🙏🏽
Love your vids, just wanna say Im here in the beginning before you blow up, remember me
haha I never thought of making it big, but if I ever do, I would never take your support for granted. Seriously, thank you for the kind words 🙏🏽

I like that shower idea. I'll give it a shot! Thanks for the suggestions and watching!
I totally resonated with putting the film on the reel thing LOL
haha I knew someone would! I can be so frustrating sometimes!

Thanks for sharing your process! I tried the same setup but almost all of my scans have Newton rings... How do you avoid those?

Great content. Any print!

Twin Peaks print would look great in the office.
Thanks for watching! I'll be announcing winners later on in the week!
@@jonjonmokfilmI just got an email did I actually win?
@@DrBlackFalcon Yes you did! Please contact me through email to discuss shipping the print to you.
Good video thanks
Thank you!
Hmmmm, I thought NLP for TIFF files you shouldn't color pick the WB if your TIFF are scanned at 2.2 gamma?
A sunny day in Portland 🙌 what kind of light meter do u use btw?

у меня такой же бачок, но плёнки я печатаю сам .процесс -RA-4 в ванной.
That's awesome! One day, I would love to do darkroom printing!
What’s the resolution you finally get out after scanning? :-)
I’ve changed my scanning process since then. I’m scanning at 3200dpi resulting in approximately 4300x4750 for 35mm and 7500x7500 for 120 film which is plenty good for 8x10.
bro you have a light leak in your film back
Just ordered some new light seals to try and fix it!
nice. I fixed mine with the seal kit from
ebay and all good
can't pass up a hoop!
Always have to shoot your shot!
Very good job on that video. You have a great voice for this, keep it up. And, your images are awesome too! Sub'd and I'll be back.
Yep, Ektar is one of my favorite film stocks too, love that film.
Thank you Steve!
