Nice video. I found your channel after finding @rompingbronco's. Nice to have a couple of PDX based photographers on RUclips. I'm in PDX also and have shot some BW at the Japanese Gardens. Your video makes me want to go again with some color film with my new (used) Diana F+.

It's definitely tough but doable! I've taken my P67 to a few shows and have been shocked by how good things turned out. Your experience was pretty relatable though with the timing things around lights (and people asking about the camera 😅). Probably not possible with bigger touring acts like PTH, but a little flash can go a long way if it's a show where it's chill. Being able to stop down a bit helps sooooo much with the narrow dof being stuck wide open necessitates. When I do that I actually use the waist level and zone focus everything

Good stuff man, I'm going to do a shoot in may for a local band that's opening for a show and been thinking of using my Hasselblad 500C, Polaroid SX-70 600 modded camera and Minolta X700 so I have to see how it goes... only thing is from past research is that using Portra 800 is not the best for concert photography due to it being for portraits and being only for indoors and outdoor portraits and basic shoots but I heard and seen that cinestill 800T holds up due to it being motion picture film which has a greater sensitivity and looks great from what I've seen but I shall see how I go in general.
Hope the shoot went well! I'll be using CineStill 800T next time then. I think the hallations would be great in these environments too. Thanks for the advice and watching!
Hmmmm, I thought NLP for TIFF files you shouldn't color pick the WB if your TIFF are scanned at 2.2 gamma?
I shoot film at concerts and live shows a lot, definitely never as professional as my digital work, but choosing to shoot at grass roots venues and chatting with the bands a little about my process has lead to them cherishing some of my film photos wayy more than the digital counterparts. I might take my hassy to a show now I’ve seen this video, see if I can make something from it, although I’ll probably be picking up a prism finder first :)

These shot worked out a lot better than i'd have thought! I've never thought of taking my Mamiya 645 to a gig haha! Got a sub from me! I usually take my Canon EOS 33 with me and a 50mm f/1.8 and shoot Portra 800 & illford delta 3200. AF usually works "ok" but i'll sometimes lock then switch to manual if there isnt much movement to avoid focus hunting. I've also got an Olympus XA tiny 35mm rangefinder than i sometimes carry too since its so tiny and has a f/2.8 lens. - Hopefully gonna try a Tamron 35mm f/1.8 with IS and maybe the 85 too. I dont mind damaing the 50 f/1.8 though so i'll probably still take that to more rowdy gigs - like the Bring Me The Horizon one i was just at, dropped it couple times bouncing in and out the pit but its survived fine haha!

I’ve been busy for the last two and a half months so I’m binge watching your channel starting from this one. The end is amazing, haha. And your self portraits are really good. I’ve been playing with self portraits that are not technically perfect for the last year or so (too shy to post any of that) and I do enjoy movement and imperfections (in every photo bus specially in self portraits). Anyway, I really enjoy this one. Keep it up!

What's the lamp you're using for the self portraits? It's crazy how fast the light falls off and works really nicely
It’s a “sun” lamp or something like that off of Temu that my partner got for me. It’s about $8. Hope this helps!

I used to shoot a lot more, but I would say about one or two rolls a month recently. I would check out the one's I mentioned (Pamplemousse Mag, Y35 Mag, and Quilt Mag) and there's many more on Instagram that are looking for submissions. You can check out your local film store and ask around, which may lead to exhibitions and gallery opportunities as it did for me. In short, find a community you love (no matter how big or small) and make genuine connections. Best wishes in your journey!
