John Inman from Are You Being Served said Sid was a delight to work with. Sid and John worked in panto together just after John became a huge star of Are You Being Served? Also, John wanted to make clear that Sid was in no way homophobic, a claim made by Kenneth Williams. John, who was far more camper than Kenneth said Sid did not care what sexuality any man was. One night after a performance, it was published in the papers that the second series of Are You Being Served was a ratings smash hit. Sid came to John's dressing room with a huge magnum of champagne, and toasted John's success in the sitcom, and John remembered the words Sid said "isn't it great?" - meaning isn't it great to be so successful and loved. What a kind man he was, he really liked John Inman, thought him very funny as Mr Humphries.

I remember it well as he was late, and when he did arrive he was, not fine a point on it, pissed out of his head. He was so out of it that the recording could not be used even after heavy editing, his speech was slurred and incoherent at times. He seemed more interested in speaking about horseracing than his actual movie. He looked haggard and as if he had slept in the tweed suit he arrived in, I recall it so well even after nearly 50 years as I was so shocked at his appearance and behaviour.
