My wife and I watched from beginning to end. We were impressed with your shop and attention to detail. For the investment that you have in the vehicle you able to make a really good towing pickup. So glad to see you weren't interested in rolling coal. Great job.
But a month of time that you could be billing/working on customers cars could you earn the money to just buy a new truck? 35/40 days of shop time is alot of lost revune
This is the reason i live your videos as someone who doesnt now too much about working on cars these videos are so in debth that im just learning soo much shit
They’re all loud without a muffler. I had a 4 inch straight pipe on my 06 dodge last summer when driving from Ohio to Florida. That got old. 5 inch with muffler is pretty nice. In cab noise is quieter.
Nice to see a youtuber go over all costs, not just say I did a cummins swap and leave everyone guessing how much it cost. Only thing one would need to add is labor, but if you had to pay someone to do it, it might not be worth it.
I don't know why I was such a late adopter to this channel. Great work, original content, awesome video length, and I learn a lot watching you work. Most of all, this is a great community it looks like. The comments are positive and vastly different from say Tommy's channel, where it's just a sess-pool of reddit type commenters lol. Very happy for you my man, you should be proud !
Your time is by far the most expensive thing on the truck. Judging by your videos, I estimated that you had roughly 300 hours in the truck. That's about $30,000 in labor if someone were to hire someone to do the work for them. And $100 an hour is a low ball estimate. So your talent and experience saved you a young fortune. People don't understand why trucks like this go for $50,000+ when they sell. It's like building a house. My rule of thumb for labor estimates on house is material cost times two plus 10%. Human effort will always be the most expensive thing involved in any kind of project. This truck is beautifully done by the way. Your excitement always makes me smile.
As a automotive painter im gonna say that Door has probably been repainted thats why the clear is peeling. (Fords usually have pretty good paint and from my experience it rarely peels ect.)
Ethan Karrick yep, the bedside and fender on mine is peeling and that’s the only thing that’s been repainted. Even the roof is still good factory black paint for being a 2001 and sits outside its whole life.
The CEL, reduced engine power, tow/haul mode not working (possibly bad switch) makes me believe that the dpf clean mode, that popped up during the drive, needs to be deleted out of the tune. That should clear it off the instrument panel. When it goes thru that cleaning cycle of it doesn’t end up seeing the parameters it wants it’ll throw the truck into reduced power mode and may disable the ability to switch to tow haul mode
Nice truck! Great video build series. Plan B 2016-2017, F350-450, crew cab, dually, lariat/platinum/king ranch, 100-140k miles, $32-41k, lets say $36,000 ($7,200 down, $536/mth for 60mth). $20,000 cash price of converted truck = 7,200 down plus 24 months worth of payment. After 2yrs repeat. Sell truck and put 20% down on next one, leftover from sold truck pays monthly payment for 2 years.
Great job Taylor! I have a 2010 6.4 that I had rebuilt. I wanted to do a 24 valve conversation but I was worried about the little quirks. It would have been just over 20k . I went with a rebuild on the 6.4 with upgraded pistons, head studs, deleted, tuned, FASS lift pump new intake and exhaust and I love it. That was just around 17k. Still kinda wish I had the 24 valve. I had the work done. If I did the work the cost would have doubled. With a great motor the Ford is really a great truck. Your awesome!!
Been following this build from the start. Loved it the entire way. For what you have into that for what it is you cannot beat it that is actually a bulletproofed set up. Also I had a mitsimoto trans cooler installed in one of my 7.3’s and I love it
Cummins swap was a very good idea. I have a Ram 2005 3500 4x4 dually 8 foot bed in Patriot Blue which I paid 18,900 total last year. It has no rust and everything works great. This engine is one of the best diesel truck motors.
Well done. You couldnt find a truck like this for what you spent. sounds great looks great. I have seen alot of vids where people are doing this swap I like the direction you went. I like Ford trucks just not their engines. Except the 7.3. You have inspired me to do something similar. Thanks again for posting.
Truck is badass man. I have a single wheel 250 that I got cheap and have put $8000 extra in it. It's still the 6.4 unfortunately but it has a lot of new Ford OEM parts in it. All the parts that usually cause the 6.4 issues. Unfortunately one of the brand new OEM injectors is leaking already I think and now I think the up pipe is cracked. I have only put maybe 300 miles on it then the injector started acting up... I think. The injectors are supposedly under warranty but don't have the money for the labor cost right now. But I can't replace it for the money I have in it. It's nothing close to your Fummins but maybe someday I can swap it. Congrats on the Fummins it's awesome. Take care.
I love builds like this and not just trucks. Anyone doing a refresh build on an older car and truck and basically making it a new vehicle and for some they think this is way too expensive but if you think about buying a new diesel truck your talking over 60k easy and up to 100k for the absolute best. So for me this is really smart especially if you have a favorite body style and you have the time and money upfront.
Mostly? I'm a big believer in finding the body style you like and running with it. Me, I love the old brick noses - beautiful machines. But it's only cheaper if you happen to be a mechanic with all the tools, all the facilitates to do the work, the spare time, the ability to unload those spare parts he's deducting from costs - it's kind of misleading. For you or me or "most" people - that things a very very expensive used truck. Also it's not insured for total cost. Unless he has a fancy policy he's paying a lot of money for - if that thing gets totaled or stolen (which is easy, because on paper that's a 2012 Ford and not really valuable) he's getting a check for about .... 1/3 the replacement cost. And his time will never be compensated. I'm not trying to crap all over the idea. It's really interesting and a lot of fun to watch him work and see this thing he loves happen - but you gotta understand this is insanely impractical for the overwhelming majority of everyone.
That is AMAZING ! The savings of money spent is such a value. If you take the budget of getting that truck new, you saved what, $40-$50k? You saved that much AND you got what YOU want, not what they want to give you. AND you saved it from its self. All trucks have their quirks and deficiencies. The newer the truck the more expensive the quirks. My money will always be spent on an older truck modded for durability, efficiency and strength. My next truck will be along this way of doing things, it will cost more cause I’m a self employed carpenter and I’m so busy building homes and my business so I will have to pay someone to build the truck but getting what you want is the best money spent. Vehicles are a depreciating asset, you will never get a return on one unless you are a collector, that being said you are buying a driving EXPERIENCE, so as far as SMILES PER MILE, I’ll build an older truck with my sweat earned money and be smiling for the next 300-500k miles.
Taylor, a moth and a half to get exactly what you want, no problem. I would and have done it longer myself. and yes I too did it by myself. I just remodeled the kitchen for my wife 8 weeks to build her exactly what she wanted, an 8.5 ft x 25 ft kitchen with an island and enough cabinets and counter top to make any woman happy!
I’ve never owned the 5R110, I had a 7.3 with the 4r100. A good friend of mine had a 6.0 with the 5r110 and he swapped in only a triple disc billet converter no other mods to he trans and it made quite a big difference on how it drove. He had bigger injectors, bigger turbo, bigger hpop, and other stuff but it also helped with the temps while towing heavy. We both towed often at 15-16k lbs up parleys canyon which is6-8% grade for a long distance. Sure miss that girl, 13.7 qtr mile in SLC utah on some 35” tires at 8600 lbs with a 7.3 aint to shabby, Always wanted to swap to an Allison 6spd
I wish I had the time and patients to build stuff like you do. Great work my man. Also, it would help to show how fast it gets going by putting a camera facing the Speedo and tach
Yeah average shop rate is $100.00hr and he said he guessed about 6 weeks. Don't know how many actuall hours he spent but I would guesstimate prolly 60-80 hrs so prolly 6-8k in shop labor I would guess. 😊
If you were to do it again, I would consider a 450. It has a wider front axle, making it more maneuverable than a 350. Second, they are ten lug. No adapter needed for 22.5 wheels. I enjoyed this build. Got me thinking about doing one down the road someday. Great job on the truck.
I just bought a 2000 F250 Powerstroke 7.3 with a rough body with only 200k miles for $3k. So I am going to put $5000 into refreshing body & paint and upgrade to the hydra tuner with new injectors and bigger hpop, all to give me over 550hp. So with the $5000 investing in engine, body and paint and initial investment will keep me under $10,000 but I will have a truck I could sell for $15,000 or more but would be equivalent to a $60,000+ if I bought new. Seems like a no brainer to me if you have the skills. With time I plan on upgrading interior and many accessories and feel like because of the year and engine, I can't go wrong when I come to sell it because everyone loves the 7.3 Powerstroke, like they love Cummins
Excellent work Sir 👍 now I can figure down to the dollar what mine would be almost down to the dollar, appreciate the insight (your now the "Mr T" of fummins swaps I do believe) 🤘😆
If you are still having issues with the tow mode switch, check the wires where they come out of the shift lever under the steering column plastics. They tend to break right where they come out of the shifter and cause intermittent function issues.
Great build!! I stick with the Fords to keep the key-pad entry on the driver's door---a true life saver.... I believe I will do the Cummins swap as well!!! Wonderful truck...
Thanks for not being that guy that goes straight for the 5" straight pipe exhaust. I personally feel the 4" with muffler sounds better. I was wondering why your exhaust sounded similar to my truck.
so happy for you taylor you finally got a truck your happy with it does everything you need it too and has all the bells and whistles hopefully it stays reliable **cross fingers **
Engine bay looks clean and not cluttered at all. Almost as if it was meant to be there. Good job on the swap. I've always wanted to do a common rail swap into something but the complexity of the swap always stopped the plans. After watching your videos it's not much more complex than any other swap as long as you have the money for the kit from DCS.
If you still have the truck, you can tune out the check engine light with HPTuners. I swapped a Detroit into my 09 and got rid of the Check Engine light with HPTuners. Very nice swap by the way.:)
Be sure to document all the Ford/Dodge interfaces and non stock mods. A few years from now you may forget some of the little details when the enevitable normal tow vehicle issues arise. Truck looks and sounds great.
I'm really happy you did this! I'm really thinking about converting a gas powered Motorhome with a bad engine unless I find one cheap! I've needed someone to let me learn!
taylor when you open the hood you should somehow change the v8 powerstroke signage on the fan to a inline 6 cummins saying or something that would be a nice little touch
I agree the 5r110s are stout but if you start to make alot of power and pull stuff with it you will 100% burn the directs out of it. I have a 6.4 with a Rudy's comp tune and I put 4 stockers in it in 2 years before I finally built one.
The front door was repainted at some point which is why just that door the clear coat is pealing. I saw it in one of the last videos, the color was slightly off has a brown to it to it
I got charged 725 just to press in one u joint. They said the shaft did not need balanced, but I was shaking hard. Bought a new one from rock auto and go figure no more shakes.
Paint the enclosed trailer to match the truck, maybe add your logo to the side of the trailers rear quarter. Should look sick rolling down the road or parked up at a Drift event.
Great job, awesome truck. I have a 08 f450 king ranch. Spent 14k to refressh/mod the 6.4. Could have gone Cummins route for same cost. Food for thought next time.
Try carly it plugs into your ob2. Connector and you down load the app and you can change the chimes you can shut off your seatbelt reminder times you can shut off check engine lights but get rid of it like for your situation with the flummins check it out. Should work keep up the good content ✌
Taylor, how about adding a coolant filtration system for the engine? I just ordered one from Thoroughbred Diesel myself. Last time I flushed the heater core...it' was pretty disgusting.
All you need now are a couple of rattle cans to paint your passenger door window frame, $20. Great job on the truck. A ton of work, but it looks like it was worth it.
Hat Taylor just letting you know you should get rid of those Factory fass filters Those filteres are known to clog up and you"re truck can shut off Just an FYI look it up

With time I plan on upgrading interior and many accessories and feel like because of the year and engine, I can't go wrong when I come to sell it because everyone loves the 7.3 Powerstroke, like they love Cummins
In HPTuners, you can turn off the light for specific codes. It's a checklist.
Yes an in depth breakdown Taylor..... you did an excellent job buddy
Great video! Super nice truck that's better than store bought. Most don't know the true value of this.
Great build!! I stick with the Fords to keep the key-pad entry on the driver's door---a true life saver.... I believe I will do the Cummins swap as well!!! Wonderful truck...
Most comprehensive vid series on a fummins build on RUclips
Thanks for not being that guy that goes straight for the 5" straight pipe exhaust. I personally feel the 4" with muffler sounds better. I was wondering why your exhaust sounded similar to my truck.
Did you think 5 months ago, that you’d ACTUALLY be making this video today?
This is the best of both worlds!, please get the interior detailed!
Awesome build, thrifty budget. Super worth it!
I have the Fox 2.0s on my Cummins truck and they are awesome.
Love the truck watch every episode now I want to take my 07 5.9 and swap it now 👍👍 Congrats on the build 👏✌
so happy for you taylor you finally got a truck your happy with it does everything you need it too and has all the bells and whistles hopefully it stays reliable **cross fingers **
Very nice build. I would change all the fluids in the axles, trans and trensfer case. You don't know if if has ever been di. Thanks for the video.
It really was super simple. Dcs harness is legit plug n play. And the Cummins harness really doesn’t need much to run the engine.
60sec in, and he hasn’t mentioned his cold AC yet? 🤔
Love the sound quality! Love the info ! You’re super helpful! Thank you so much .
When taylor was reiterating over the parts cost and his reasoning I was just like " okay, okay, where do I sign and whats the monthly payment?"
If you still have the truck, you can tune out the check engine light with HPTuners. I swapped a Detroit into my 09 and got rid of the Check Engine light with HPTuners. Very nice swap by the way.:)
Stoked about the 1hr rebuild summary like the ls miata!
Man great job. Awesome build. Been watching since video number 1. Congrats man enjoy!
taylor when you open the hood you should somehow change the v8 powerstroke signage on the fan to a inline 6 cummins saying or something that would be a nice little touch
i'm so happy the truck came out like everything u wanted it to be mann keep up the great work
Good job following through and detailing costs and methods
I agree the 5r110s are stout but if you start to make alot of power and pull stuff with it you will 100% burn the directs out of it. I have a 6.4 with a Rudy's comp tune and I put 4 stockers in it in 2 years before I finally built one.
Nice work. I enjoyed watching this build.
You did it right. Build yourself a nice truck. And a hell a lot better than buying brand new.🤟💪
Nice build man you know what you're doing
great vidj Taylor nice to have the cost explained great truck
I know with my cobalt and hp tuners I was able to delete codes to stop the cel, you should be able too as well
Try carly it plugs into your ob2. Connector and you down load the app and you can change the chimes you can shut off your seatbelt reminder times you can shut off check engine lights but get rid of it like for your situation with the flummins check it out. Should work keep up the good content ✌
Dream truck for less than the price of a base ranger, just add labor. Well done!
Taylor, how about adding a coolant filtration system for the engine? I just ordered one from Thoroughbred Diesel myself. Last time I flushed the heater core...it' was pretty disgusting.
Red top steering boxes are so worth it!
All you need now are a couple of rattle cans to paint your passenger door window frame, $20. Great job on the truck. A ton of work, but it looks like it was worth it.
Hat Taylor just letting you know you should get rid of those Factory fass filters Those filteres are known to clog up and you"re truck can shut off Just an FYI look it up
Wish I could have a pickup truck like yours in England 😂😂
JT MEDIA me too buddy all we get is shitty Nissan navaras and Mitsubishi l200s . Nothing like this beast
@@ianrushsmoustache2282 Funny enough, I wish we could get Navaros in the States lol. So much cooler than the Frontier that we have.
Ian Rush's Moustache a-
1Slamalama1 yes they’re legal here my mate has a 1st gen dodge twin wheel with a Cummins in but you have to legally change direction of headlights and fit a rear fog light and a few other bits . Not many here though
asniel moreno cheers lol
