mima14031985 sounds great!! Do you know what is the best sheet music i should look into? Like books with many many doors songs for keyboards with accuracy. It would be a big help if you could recommend one. Thank you
@@G_A_Z_23 I think it’s Behind Closed Doors alternative takes and rarities tapes but that’s definitely not Ray’s piano that’s @mima140311985 playing it can tell the Nord emulation from the Rhodes a mile off
One of the most atmospheric, haunting pop-rock melodies ever put to vinyl. It was so weird in the Summer of 1971...the first time i heard it on CKLW was the day Jim Morrison died. I'll never forget it. I was 13 yrs old.
Oh yeah, that's for sure one of the best songs from The Doors. It's this precise song, which I heard for the first time at the tender age of 3, that started my passion for music.
I don't consider it pop at all, I feel that it is classic rock in its entirety, it even has psychedelic overtones. I would even go so far as to say that it is a post-psychedelic song.
ray manzarek must have been struck dead by lightning because i had the pleasure to see him live less than half a year before he passed away and i swear the dude was rocking it like he was 25, his foot up on the keys an everything :) LEGEND!!! rest in peace
Thanks Soan. Indeed this required quite a lot of work, but as substantially this song is what started my passion with music at the age of 3, I just had to do it :-)
Of course, this song have a special place in my heart. As told in the description, this is the one that started my passion with music at the tender age of 3 years old. Thanks for your appreciation :-)
the reason the doors resonated and still resonate with people is because of how unique each member of the band was. none of them were the same in terms of talent or style
I’ve just learned this directly from your video it’s almost parallel to yours I use a Kronos 2 88 with a ‘Riders’ setting with the perfect Rhodes and Vibrato tone I can’t play left hand good so I looped it but it sounds identical to yours !!!!!!! Thank you for such a fantastic video and teaching me to play my No 1 song of all time ❤️
One thing, I'm noticing in this cover that makes it stand out, is that you have added either reverb or chorus in the keys and that gives out an ethereal feeling in your sound, which is exactly what Ray went for back then. You sir deserve a bigger audience and way more views!
Thanks for your appreciation :-) The main effect I used here for the Rhodes is tremolo (not chorus) and just a bit of reverb. This was how Ray did it at the times. I used also the Fender amp simulation which is embedded in the keyboard (Rhodes pianos at the times used to be recorded by placing the microphone near their amplifiers, usually such amps being Fenders) and did some EQing to approach as much as I could to the original sound.
That was just beautiful! I am a guitar player, looking to get into keyboard playing and viewing this song from a very different perspective now (the keyboard) is exciting. I've always admired Ray Manzarek's ability and to compose this amazing music, is incredible...even just playing it, is highly admirable. For me, I don't know how you seperate the bass side from the melodic side, surely it must be very confusing to start with. I guess you just practice and wait for your brain to do the muscle memory thing. Anyway, is highly impressive that you have accomplished this feat, you are an inspiration to an aspiring keyboard novice! Thank you! 🤤
Indeed, Ray was a genius with a lot of musical taste, and there's plenty of that in every song he wrote. Of course learning a Doors' song, or any other song with a bass line to be played with the left hand while the right hand does its thing is quite confusing at the beginning. Parts have to be learned and exercised separatedly, then slowly brought together. And when you start to be confident at playing the two parts together, exercise, exercise and again exercise, until you reach the target level of skill. It takes a lot of time and patience, at least for a non-professional, amateur keyboardist like me. Thank you for your appreciation :-)
Well done, you’ve done a great job on this. I’m learning this song at the moment as a novice player, I love the song and thought it’d be a good challenge for left and right hand independence. It is a challenge, but it’s getting there. It’s a good inspiration watching you play it. Cheers

dude i neeed that backing track! oh and of course this is an absolutely beautiful rendition. nobody can be 100% manzarek but you pretty much nailed it. this is by far the best cover i´ve found on youtube! keep on the good work!
It seems when you are searching for lessons, you find different levels of lessons... 1) basic singalong. 2) trying to immulate the actual artist, and 3) finding the actual rendition of the song. Sometimes 1 or 2 is good enough, but sometimes you want #3, and this is it. It's as difficult as finding the REAL way to play the simple John Lennon "Imagine"!
Yes, I did my best to make this like the original as much I could. I really have this song in my heart, actually this is the song which started my interest in music when I was 3. It's a great pleasure for me tributing this fine musical piece.
Amazing cover! I kinda strugle with finger pattern on up-down solo 0:20. If I noticed corectly he used 3 fingers, I've seen another videos where they use 4 fingers. For me is easiest way to play it with 2 fingers. What is right way to play it? (I don't want teach myself any bad habbits)
Hi Jakub, thanks for your appreciation. I'll tell you, the right way to play that scale is the one which you feel more confortable :-) It's not a technical exercise where you have to play with precise fingering, you have freedom of choice.
