When I lived in L.A., I was a magazine editor, and I met and really liked Adam Holzman, then with a band called the Fents. @@SM-ht7qf I correctly called it an "electronic bass," as opposed to a regular "electric bass," which would be like an Fender Bass instead of a normal standup bass, right??
@@tiffsaver No this piano bass is an electric piano bass, no electronic components in it. It is the bottom end of a fender rhodes electric piano. I own a 1971 fender rhodes piano bass
@@SM-ht7qf I already know that a Rhodes piano is, my band's first keyboard played used one. I also know that the one that Roy Manzarak used was just the bottom end of an electric piano. I also know that an ELECTRIC BASS GUITAR is called an "ELECTRIC BASS" (such as a Fender Jazz or Fender Pro) to distinguish it from a non-electrified BASS FIDDLE. I also know that you're a anal retentive jagoff eager to impress me with your esoteric knowledge, signifying NOTHING. So do we fully understand each other now??
Ray's left and right hand coordination was second to none. No rock keyboardist of that era could play left-hand bass so proficiently. He never depended on the "glitz" of the Hammond B3 and Leslie. Try playing the bass line and organ intro to "Light My Fire"; or the bass line and "rain-run" in "Riders on the Storm". Very difficult!
Amazing how two UCLA Film Students started a Band and met two meditation students Robbie and John and the Doors were complete! I think it was Destiny! Morrison was writing poetic songs with No Music. He couldn’t play an instrument and yet he found three guys who would flesh out his songs! Amazing! And Krieger wrote Light my Fire 🔥! The first song he ever wrote became a huge hit for the Summer of 68. And it put them on the map Nationally. I love how Ray explains the Doors songwriting process. They were a real band with everyone contributing. They had musical chemistry which is a rare thing to find. It made them so good and unique. They had their own original sound and style. It’s why they are one of the Greatest Rock Bands of All Time! And Morrison was one the best singers of All time as well. He could sing Blues and Rock and Ballads equally well and he was a Crooner, too! RIP Ray and Jim
Cool keyboards and he was a cool guy for sure. Very smart in so many ways. That was a very brilliant introduction. He under-estimates himself. There was medieval influences as well. There was a fusion thing going on!
I love how naturally he flows between conversation and playing music. Just goes to show what his natural language to communicate with is when he had no words left
More talent, kindness, energy, craftsmanship and sheer joy of playing in Ray than in 99% of all 2000's music combined! We should name streets, avenues, highways and new cities after him!

Fantastic passion, positivity and creativity from amazing Ray Manzarek! God bless you!
Real gentleman & talent...total class!
6:50 to The End of vid are Ray's Words of Wisdom to those who want the life .... don't be afraid . Still has me thinking about his advice since I first heard him . He was such an artist .
Thank you Ray. I can't even begin to express what your music means to me. Rest in peace, keyboard wizard.
I love his voice. So pure. I will always remember you here on earth my brother. Rest easy & be happy.
You changed my life Ray, RIP and much love from another random keyboardist from LA
It never ceases to amaze me on how FAT a sound Ray could make with just that little keyboard and electronic bass unit!! RIP.
electric not electronic
@@SM-ht7qf
I correctly called it an "electronic bass," as opposed to a regular "electric bass," which would be like an Fender Bass instead of a normal standup bass, right??
@@tiffsaver No this piano bass is an electric piano bass, no electronic components in it. It is the bottom end of a fender rhodes electric piano. I own a 1971 fender rhodes piano bass
@@tiffsaver Also runs on no power, just needs an amplifier

I already know that a Rhodes piano is, my band's first keyboard played used one.
Very difficult!
i used to work in westwood village LA in 1990's and he came to eat a couple of times. one in a generation.
even the jacket he has on is unique.
Man it's been about 6 years and I still miss Ray. He was unquestionably the coolest cat in all of rock.
Ray was the embodiment of the 60's and an amazing raconteur.
The Doors music would not have been as good without rays keyboard skills.Rip Ray, a nice guy with no ego.
I love how naturally he flows between conversation and playing music. Just goes to show what his natural language to communicate with is when he had no words left
You're the man Ray!
More talent, kindness, energy, craftsmanship and sheer joy of playing in Ray than in 99% of all 2000's music combined! We should name streets, avenues, highways and new cities after him!
Ray is simply a legend.
💜💜💜
Well I’m gobsmacked. Never seen this but I have said for decades that Ray Manzarek is the voice of The Doors. One can listen to him all day as he speaks eloquently and intelligently with passion and love for his subject. Since the passing of Jim Morrison he never once, not once in any written or spoken word changed his message or opinion about the group that was his life. Genius.
Robby Krieger - The first song he ever wrote was "Light My Fire". This band was touched by either God or the Devil.
Rick Roscoe or both
Both. Mostly God.
they were a military experiment. true. look up who jims dad was. and frank zappa. the whole psychedelic scene along with the drugs. it didn't start on it's own.
@@kbtube8125 LMAOO ight bud, you realize when Jim was born, his dad was very low in the military and din't get high in the miltlary until Jim was in around college
@@kbtube8125 Yeah... Zappa didn't do or tolerate any drugs. You were fired if you didn't stay clean.
"Open your heart to the energy"
"Don't be afraid" loved this guy immensely
great man . you were brilliant . the doors one of a kind best. one of the best bands ever
Moon Light Drive.... an absolute delight.... Brilliant
Can't wait to get up there and hear the new tunes you been workin with jim!! R.I.P!!!
Incredible, hearing him just dishing out these legendary tunes🙆♂️😯🥰👍!!
You have to open your heart to the energy. Thanks you for that Ray, and for all the Joy and the Genius.
Very one of his videos -all worth watching. He does have that positive energy in him.
We're all writers on the storm... Rest in peace my friend..!
That God bless you at the end made me so happy.
