This video shows how to install a Bimini Top on a Jon Boat. The Bimini in this video is a 3 bow King Bird brand top. I give step by step instructions with close ups. Anyone can do this with minimal tools. Хобби
Dude an OD boat?! A blue bimmini?! Your killing me pls say they don't make them in camo or you are to cheap to take blue to canvas shop! I'm embarrassed for you being that guy on the water but look at your seats?! I notice your high buck$ Etec though out performances 4strokes bulletproof and no matinance 3 yrs min
Kenneth, there's a lot more to picking colors than pleasing your fine taste in luxury craft like mine. The camo tops are fine if you duck hunt (I gave that up years ago). Other than that, the most important color to have on your boat is one that can be seen. I run lines on the Missouri River (man stuff)... not like lounging in the Grand Marais while sipping fruity drinks. Barges and other boats need to see me. You don't want to blend in for obvious reasons (to some) for safety issues. It's why life vests are usually designed in bright colors. Hope this helps you change your opinion....it might save your life. Pick out what sticks out and don't get your Gucci shoes wet, Kenneth! Thanks again for the fashion lesson. I've enjoyed the comment. I needed some entertainment this morning.
What's funny is you're telling him not to be that guy when there's nothing wrong with whatever color Bimini top he wants to have on his boat but yet you're being that guy on RUclips that has to find something to complain about a perfect well put together instructional video.
@@PhilCrockett l liked your comment to this "rich" guy.
Not trying to be another hater!! I have always been told to never mark an aluminum boat with a lead pencil.
Your misuse of the English language and multiple mis-spellings are atrocious Kenneth. I would wager the fish in the water, hell the rocks in the water have a higher IQ than you do.
I've watched countless "how-to" and DIY videos on RUclips, and this is perhaps the most informative, clearly detailed I've ever seen. Well done.
Wow, thanks, Rick!
Rick Cooper, you left out straight to the point. The video is 7:24 long because it only contains info we needed to know.
Yeah, totally agree. I logged on for the purpose of commending the quality of the video. Well done, indeed!
Nice video! Seriously! You should give lessons to the other boober-toobers on here on how to make a tutorial video.
No overly amplified techno music, no 4 minute pre-canned 3D intro, no flashing unnecessary jump cuts, absolutely perfect!
Best part is now I actually know what I came to learn.
Thanks, Johnny!!! This has been my goal all along. You made my day!
Great vid! Clear instruction with no stupid intro or annoying music.. just right down to the facts.
HA! Yes! I don't like all that intro garage either! People are either going to like it / me,.......or not. Thanks for watching and commenting, Michael! Let me know how your bimini works out for you!
Thank you for the great tutorial. I spent nearly an hour trying to figure out the cryptic instructions that came with my Bimini top. You are awesome!!!
Glad it helped, Marlow! Ya, the instructions are horrible. It took me some extra time to figure it out before I did it.
Thank you very much for posting! The instructions that were sent with the top were of no use. We would have never gotten it on without your great help! Thanks again.
Glad I could help!
First off I want to thank you for making this video, it really helped me install my BIMINI TOP to my 12 ft aluminum fishing boat. Just making this comment to help anybody who watches this video and uses all the original parts. The 6 bolts and locking nuts are all installed on the frame and the 4 thumb screws and nuts are to be attached to the deck mount so you can take the top off without a screw driver. In this video you show using the thumb screw to attach the poles and the after market parts for the deck mount. Again this was a great video!
So glad you liked my video. Thanks for the tips. Maybe your comment will help someone.
Thank you for the video!
The tip on the round mounts and the slight tilt forward for on plain.
Bravo!
excellent!
Phil, just wanted to say that your videos are a top notch source of information, head and shoulders above most! Thank you for all your effort
Wow, thanks, Mike!
This teacher approves of your excellent step by step instructions! : - ))
Glad it was helpful! THanks for watching and giving such great feedback. I love the comments.
Great instructional video that is way better than a lot of "professionally produced" videos where they spend 5 minutes telling you what they are going to tell you and going over the description of the tools.
HA! YES! I can't stand the long drawn-out bull-manure people dish.
Most helpful video I've seen on adding a Bimini to a boat. Thank you for your time in making this video.
You're welcome!
Very well done and narrated. You are a natural! Thanks for
Wow, thank you!
This has to be, hands down, the best instructional video I’ve ever seen.
THANKS!
Thank you so so much for this video. It made my install so so easy I didnt even open the instructions. So incredibly helpful and very well done!!
This is the kind of comment I love to read! Thank you so much for taking the time! Hope you like my other videos as well.
This is one of the best "How-To" videos I've ever seen. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you so much, Adam! I hope you like my other videos, too!
Nice video. One quick suggestion for the straps, especially if your bimini doesn't have the rear support poles and uses straps in that location: Put one twist in the strap before clipping it to the strap eye. This will keep it from vibrating when you're moving at speed.
genius!!!! Thanks, Evan!!! what a great tip. Never thought about that!
I watched this video instead of going by the instruction booklet. Very good informative video.. I even took your advice on the rail mounts with the quick release pins.
Nice! Ya... you will LOVE the rail mount pins! Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you like my other videos as well, Jeff!
Thank you for this video. I'm about to buy a top for my ancient 12ft aluminum JB rebuild and everyone on YT doing a video either already has the mounting bases installed because they bought a boat with them stock or they just left out the part where they installed them. You the man
Thank you so much for the great comment, Kenny!
Fantastic tutorial video. No extra flashy stuff, just the facts, clearly stated. Thank you.
That's how all of my video roll, Bob! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Phil - thanks for this great video. So very helpful! We bought this exact bimini so we could follow your instructions. The instructions that came with it are not nearly as good as your video. We have a Lowe boat and ended up putting the short poles in the front and the straps in the back. In the original configuration, the top was angled back too far. But by putting the poles in front and the straps in back, we were able to angle the top slightly forward, which is perfect. Just throwing that out there in case anyone else runs into this issue.
So glad my video helped you out! I love the tip you put in your text here. Hopefully it will help other folks out. That's what this is all about! Hope you like my other videos as well!
This is the only video of yours I have ever seen. I had to check your channel to make sure I wasn't watching a how to video professionally prodiluced by the bimini top company. REALLY WELL DONE. I subscribed before the video was over.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for subbing, my friend!!! hope my other videos help you out as well, Daniel!!
If only all "how to " videos were as well illustrated and clearly presented as this!
I am about to buy a little boat to play on the Thames and a Jon boat was among the possible choices.
You just made the choice for me and Yaks.and other polythene boats are out and this is in.
It will also be getting a bimini top so now all I need is some English sun.
Many thanks!
Thanks, John!
One of the best DIY videos ever
Thank you!
Wow, thanks, Joseph!
Thank you very much !! I'm putting one on my boat tomorrow. Clear and to the point. Well done. !!
Thanks!
GREAT advice for buying the better metal mounting brackets! good one
yes! The rest of this product has been very good. I am constantly taking it up and down and on and off. Ive hit trees along the river bank, and have abused it in ways that I shouldn't, and the top still looks and works like new. That company should use me as their ad-man! Great product.
Great video Phil. Much better than the instructions that came with it. Wish all videos were this well done. We bought a 4 bow that the instructions didn't address at all. Your video helped us put it together. Thanks for posting.
YES! The instructions were horrific! I had to piece it together a couple times until I figured it out enough to film and show people. If I ever get a new one, I'll have to watch my video again in order to do it right the first time. Thanks for watching and commenting, Ann!
Great instructions Phil! I'll be installing my bimini on my tinny here in Australia. Cheers from this Yank down under. 🍻
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Excellent video - installed my bimini top today on a very similar boat - Thanks!!
Glad it helped, Ron!
Fantastic video! I am waiting on my top to arrive and am about to order the metal hinges. I feel confident in installing it now having watched it. The manufacturer should have a link to your video on their site. Thank you.
Thanks for the great feedback, Brad! I just ordered another set of rail hinges and installed them last night. I moved the Bimini forward 3' because I'm doing more catfishing in the river, and I need the 'stand-up' room in the back of the boat. Just something to think about when you install. Now I have 2 positions I can put it in. I wish they made a siding track for round rails. Someone could make a ton of money on that idea.
Going to use this video to install one of these on my dad's bass boat this weekend!
Please let me know how it turns out. Way to take care of your DAD! You RULE! God bless you!
Best tutorial on this type Bimini top. Good job!
THANKS, WILLIAM!!!n. Hope you like my other vids as well!
Done. The first 3 bow they sent had a defective part so I sent it back and got the 4 bow. Folds in either direction. Looks just like yours. Thanks again.
Glad my vid helped you out. Sounds like you came out ahead on that deal.
Very well done very clear instructions
Thanks!
Your presentation was great.
Thank you so much! So glad you like my video!
Thanks for the easy to follow video! I received the top as a Christmas gift and just installed it this morning!!
Glad to hear my vid helped you out. You're going to LOVE that top. I can't believe I went so long without one.
Thanks for this video, you explained step by step very well.
Glad you liked my vid, Brian! Thanks for the nice comment!
Can I call you Uncle Phil? I need you to do all the how to videos on the internet. Thanks for the great content Uncle Phil!
Sure you can! I hope my other videos are just as useful to you!
Thanks for this, very helpful.
glad my video helped you out
Superb instructional video. Now I will put one on my boat.
Great! Let me know how it went!
Great step-by-step instructions. Very helpful. Thanks for your efforts.
Glad it was helpful, Tim!
Best video on this. Makes you wonder why companies can't do it lol
Thanks, Jon!
Best instructional video EVER! Thank you so much.
Super happy to help you out. Hopefully you can now see what products I bought for this. I just copied them to the video description. People have been asking me for it. Let me know if you have any questions. Love helping a brother out!
Thank you Phil. If I want the top to collapse on the bow can I install it the opposite way than the video. Thanks again. This is my first boat so I'm sure you can understand my hesitancy to drill holes in it. But thanks to you I think I can do this easily. I did my deck on my house using youtube videos. I'm just about finished the deck on my 16" Alweld aluminum jon boat.
Yes! I know a lot of people who turn the whole thing backwards. I have a neighbor that installed his that way on purpose. There's no rules really......except of course...... following the max speed rule when the top is up. Drilling holes in your boat is a hard thing to get over, but if you want to have a properly installed top, you will have to do it. It's kind of like buying a new truck.; I have an old friend that says.... when you buy a new truck, you should take a ball peen hammer and lay a dent in the hood, then you can use the truck for what it's meant for. HAHAHAHA! love it!
Thanks for such an amazing demonstration
You're welcome, Gilfredo!
THANKU NICE ILLUSTRATION!
Very well made instructional video thanks for sharing. I also run lines on the Mississippi just above where the Missouri runs into it. Thanks again
I would like to take the boat to the Arch sometime for some pics. Where should I put in?
Excellent instructions! Thank you!
You're welcome, Mike!!
Excellent video!
Thank you very much!
46 Dislikes.......I do not understand that. Great video!
There's a certain percentage of people out there that are just miserable and hateful. Glad to know you're not! Thanks for the great comment!
If you were to expand on the Bimini top idea and get the boat going fast enough you could fly away ! Fun !
I like that idea! Most days, I'd like to "fly away"..........
Great job of putting this together
THANKS, GREG!
How does it lay down? It looks like the rear support might have to be unpinned, which is fine.
The rear support does need to be in pen. I have the quick release pens which is really nice
Phil, thanks for the great tutorial. Just ordered the top AND the rounded brackets! Youda man. Next - solar panel for the top possibly. :)
Fantastic!
You are going to LOVE having this. I have recently moved my top more towards the front since I fish mainly for catfish on the river (rod holders are on the back). So now i have 2 positions I can mount in, depending on my situation. Might want to think about that as well. Let me know how it goes.
An excellent video and thank you for sharing your excellent well put together explanations. I love the blue. I also have a L1648 Lowe's Boat and love it. I will be installing a top cover, but not absolutely sure what color it will be. Thank you again sincerely, Phil
Thank you so much for the comment, and for being a subscriber! I hope you find my other videos just as useful. Thank you again so much!
I like how you zoomed in on things. Lol
I do like to see detail. Thanks for watching!
Great video! Much help. My only question is. How do I lay the bamini down? Do I have to detach the rear support poles??
Yes, you would have to detach the rear support poles as well. Great question my friend
Awesome video thanks.
You're welcome! thanks for watching!
great instructional video - well done ...thanks
Glad it was helpful, Don!
Great video. Can you fit a 6 gal fuel tank in the rear? I’m gonna get this job boat. Thanks
Fuel tanks come in different shapes and sizes. I recommend investigating all of them. I imagine you can find a 6 gallon tank that would fit
I noticed you have the seat mounts that allow you slide the seats right or left to balance the weight for a comfortable ride. I am putting these in my boat and wonder how you like the sliders?
I also noticed you didn’t use the rear slider strip. Is there a reason you chose not to use the rear strip?
Thanks.
The sliders are good….. would do them again if I had to start all over. The cons: my leg seems to rest on it, and pressing against it becomes quite uncomfortable. (Leaves a slider mark on my leg). Also, they don’t slide easily, which is also good in a way….but they won’t slide while ur sitting.
What’s a slider strip?
Great instructions.
Thanks! After trying to read the broken-English horrible written instructions, I figured my video would be pretty useful to others. Thanks for the nice comment!
Make sure to have it in Green/Brown/Black/Khaki/Camo colors please.
honestly couldn't have done it without you lol
lol great
Great video
Thanks!
My boat measure 52-53” at the widest part. The smallest Bimini kit I could find is for 54-60” do you think I could make it fit or will I run into major fitment issues?
I believe there is plenty of play enough to make that work. I would personally give it a shot.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
You made it look easy. Nice work!
THANKS STEVE-O! I truly appreciate your support!!!
Thanks your a lifesaver 👍🏻
No problem 👍. Hope you like my other videos as well, Keith! Thanks for taking the time to comment....makes my day!
Thank you for this video!!!
Glad it was helpful, Jeremiah!
Would a 54 inch wide Bimini fit on a 48 inch wide boat? I know there’s a little play but does anyone have an idea? Thanks!
It depends on the adjustment limits of the telescoping bows. I suppose you could cut them down to fit? maybe?
Wonder if you could have one on the aft facing forward and one on the bow facing aft to shade the whole boat while not fishing?
sure! I've since put another set on my boat towards the front, so I can river fish from the back a lot easier
How do you fish when shade is up? Go to the front of the boat where there’s no shade? Just curious?
I have a set of anchors for the Bimini on the front so I can fish out of the back when I'm on the river. The set up do you see here is for Lakes
Good job
Thanks!
Yes very good instructional video, thank you.
glad you liked my vid! I appreciate the kind words!
Never thought of putting one on a smaller boat. Thanks for the idea.
Now a question. When you're towing, how does the Bimini come down? Is it easy?
Anyone here with advice?
This bimini top can stay up if you're traveling less than 35 mph. I live close to the boat ramp, so I rarely put it down. However, it's super EZ to put down if you have the quick release pins. I put
Amazon links to the products in my video description for these products. Hope this helps.
Perfect instruction voice.....
HA! most people make fun of it. THANKS!
Great video you explain everything very well.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Hello, I was wondering if you could tell me how much space you put in between the rounded brackets you mounted to your boat. I purchased the same top and like how yours sits.
exactly 36" IOW (3' center to center). hope this helps, Travis!
Well done video.
THANKS!
Great video but I ordered the deck hinges that you used and the concave does not fit flush to the rail. We have the exact same boat. It looks like your hinges dont quite fit perfect either. Have the hinges being slightly raised caused any problems for you? I have searched the web endlessly and I do not believe they make this hinge in the proper size which would be 1 inch and not 7/8" or 25mm vs 22mm. Do you have any advice?
There's not a perfect / custom fit hinge for every application. However, this is a fantastic 'curve' because it plants well, where a flat base would 'rock' and not plant. Does that make sense? Anyway.... I would make this purchase all over again.
Thanks, Just ordered mine
That’s great! You will love it! Did my link to the Bimini top in my description help you find it?
No one ever mention a solution use to apply on the stainless screws to Aluminum body. Can someone add to my comment if they know what is use to help counter Stainless on Aluminum?
I have heard this too. However, I haven't had any issues so far.
Looking for a bimini to fit a 49.5 in. Beam boat. It's a 12 ft. Sears gamefisher. Any suggestions?
I simply searched on-line. Most sites that sell these have many options according to your measurements.
where did you get those cool seats
i don't remember. it's been years and years since purchase.
You have to have a problem where the motor is. I placed mine there and the stick wouldn't come all the way down ....had to place more forward
I measured that area with the top down before I made my final marks so I wouldn't have that problem. you really need to measure everything and 'dry fit' before making anything permanent.
If you had it to do this install again would you pick an 8’ rather a 6’?
PS I am a fisherman.
I'd pick the exact one I bought here. I love it
Great video, thank you so much!
You're very welcome, Vickie! hope you like my other videos as well.
I wonder if it could be mounted to a T-track so it could be repositioned forward or back?
VERY good idea, Chris! I don't know if they make a T-track for a round rail. That would be good to look up for sure.
excellent vid. one question before i install, i dont have rear support poles, is this gonna cause me any confusion? thanks
Without seeing it, I would not be able to give you a good answer. However, between my video and the instructions that came with your top, I don't think you'll have any issues.
What length jhonboat. I have the same style boat but it's a 14foot.. my haul wit is 59inch At the back of the boat. My opinions are looking like a 2 bow which doesn't offer much cover
My jon boat is 16'. It's a 1648 Lowe MV
so helpful
Is it in the way of something when you fold it flat?
nope. I positioned it in such a way so that wouldnt happen
If I’m reading correctly you have a LOWE 1648 correct? I just bought a new LOWE 1240 and want to put a top on and figure out the carpet and seating setup you did. Mine is for drainage canals and using a Minn Kota 45lbs motor as main propulsion. Any help and suggestions are wanted and welcomed. What size top should I be looking for?
the sizes are selected on the web-sites.

Great totorial
Thanks, Elizabeth!
Great video 👏👏👏👏👏👏
THANKS!!!!!
Very nice, and informative video. What is the length and width of your Lowe Jon boat (or model #). Really like the extra seat you installed also. How did you do that?
Take care
This is a 1648. 16' 48"
You may be able to see how I made the seat in one of my super old videos. I''ll drop the link here. ----->.
ruclips.net/video/Ef22zFQA0_w/видео.html
sorry about the poor quality. I made this years and years ago when I was just starting out as a RUclipsr. I had cheap software and a cheap camera. Hopefully this vid will be useful. Let me know
yeah Bimini's are silly. Man on moon in '69 and this is some standard for eons?
Yes I installed one on my 90s 16' Aluma. MV Tex. (mine was thick-ish white vinyl/canvas) ~ Still same in 2018?
Too short to stand under, too tall/short length for any rain really. Latter may work, some, if could telescope down.
Sun? umm, boat is moving. ~ Collapsed/laid it was always in the way for the driver of boat. (lotsa shallows I loved/don't let women use the shallow drive) Perhaps I installed mine a tad farther back, but what's the point if rain/sun protection...put the missus next to driver during rain..go slower.
Before I could figure/ add a second on front I sawed it up to trash.
..twaddling along; I used to have a 17' fish 'n ski. It came with a bikini top but the repo I got didn't have the zipped side windows. Yes very low, but snow/rain it worked
But.. I had a stash of light but worthy canvas I could slide in twixt support rods and roof..let hang over side.
Comfy aza bug caught in messed up rain/once storms. lol, lightning won't hit a moving target.
As far as I'm concerned the bimini top industry is still wide open.
Same as those small jet boats with nothing(170hp+?). Pricey I'd bet, but sliding convertible UV Lexan/shaded, from some genius drum up would corner a needed market a few years.
heck, UV Lexon is how I'd like my beer mug.
older vid Phil, yeah.
Happy Easter to you 'n yourn.
oh, I put a 30hp Merc on my 16'.
GPS said I did thirty, me and an anchor.
hmm, strange mems. The missus lost her son year before. So I ran out with CC to see the smile again. (oops)
thanks
Awesome vid! Do you trailer it with the canopy tucked in boot in upright position or do you collapse the whole thing?
Collapse it for sure if you are driving over 35 mph. Glad you like my video, Jonathan! Hope you find my other ones just as useful.
What size drill bit did you use ?
I always size it smaller than the screw. Never really look at actual 'sizes'... just compare to the screw.
Thanks one of the other comments/questions gave me the answer to how to measure for the top. I have a 14' jon boat and want to get a top to take the wife and dog with me fishing. Where did you get the curved mounts for the rails? Thanks again.
I bought them on amazon. Here's the link:www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZZB99CZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
