System Shock - The Laser Rapier is a Great Weapon

Practically, the laser rapier is useful in many situations. Aesthetically, there are areas in particular where it shines. I wanted to make a video showcasing my ideal situations and responsiveness when using the weapon.

System Shock is an action first person shooter set on Citadel Station. You have to fight your way through cyborgs, mutants, and robots controlled by SHODAN, a rogue AI. The game was originally made by Looking Glass with the remake made by Nightdive Studios.

In system shock 2 in the laser rapier item description they talk about how badass the Hacker was and how they sell replicas based on the model the Hacker uses in citadel station to defeat SHODAN
The remake makes this so viscerally fun to use

Yeah, it's a shame the laser rapier isn't really as quality a weapon in SS2 by comparison. Thankfully though, that's more than made up for the fucking baller Crystal Shard.

@@jksmellie What are you talking about? The laser rapier can literally carry you through the entirety of SS2. The shard is great, but it only does more damage if you are using smasher + charge attacks AND has a hefty research requirement. Those modules can be put to better use going into more melee/survival psi powers.

​@@aerfwefd7334 In order to use the Laser Rapier in SS2, you need 4 in Energy Weapons, which are universally known as the weakest type of weapons in SS2. While the Shard requires only 1 in Exotic Weapons and the 4 points in Research are not a loss at all, as Research allows you to scan enemy parts and implants that give you great bonuses, like the implant that lets you eat the worms for 10 health.

Bless the 90/150 damage, I'm glad it can still cut up tougher enemies like butter even after the devs nerfed its OG 200 damage per swing

Just everything about laser rapier screams Badass, whenewer hacker pulls it out all enemies in area hear Roller Mobster and thinking "Why do i hear boss music?". Shame tho that in SS2 is was nerfed to the depths

Regardless of playing either the Enhanced Edition or the Remake of the first game, it will ALWAYS feel jarring, having to suffer in System Shock 2 due to an inferior, overly demanding Laser Rapier. Wrench or Crystal Shard is better there.

That track doesn't seem to be in the official soundtrack, plays during the first Cyborg Warrior fight and the Diego boss battles.

Do you have to run towards an enemy to get a full effect or is it just holding LMB for a moment? How long do you have to hold to have a max damage?

Your movement speed does not affect damage. You just need to hold it long enough until the Hacker holds it in a position behind him and primed to strike.
