      @@semvision Yeah, they're an indy studio with a focus on making existing games playable on modern machines with slight alterations. This is literally their first original game and they changed engines in the middle. It was worth the wait.

      ​@@RoseSupremesome jagoff threw a massive temper tantrum because the plasma rifle wasn't in the demo and he immediately assumed it wasn't going to be in the game. I mean a supermassive bitchfit, like the world's very worst three year old you can imagine being told he can't have a toy.
      It is in the game, though, so...there ya go. lol

    From the way the Hacker reloads this weapons, he was either a soldier once or had VR-Training (something you see in System-Shock 2). Going for the latter on this one.

      in the original since the reloading had no visuals, you could only imagine that his reloading skills were about as good as yours were depending on how long it took you to press the button (meaning he became more proficient with guns as you went through the game). That being said, it's ironic that a Hacker is able to use every weapon in Citadel station compared to the actual soldier in System Shock 2.

      It's the deterrence factor. In my opinion here's nothing scarier then hearing a metalic *clatch clatch* in a darkened room.
      Even if someone were wearing body armor there would be significant damage to their insides from being hit with buckshot or a slug. Their ribs would be shattered and they might even have internal bleeding. If they were able to get to a doctor they might survive but I wouldn't count on it.

      I mean technically they ARE obsolete. There is no reason to have a pump shotgun over one that's semi auto. It is fun though.

      @@majorborngusfluunduch8694what about specific ammo types that don’t have enough force to cycle a semi-auto, you get a more reliable, consistent and versatile weapon with the Pump-Action.

      @@majorborngusfluunduch8694 If you want to fire something like dragon's breath you need pump action because it can't cycle the gun.
      But Dragon's Breath is useless as a weapon anyway.
      Same thing would be true for things like non-lethal baton rounds.

    worth mentiong that the different ammunition play different sounds and muzzle flashes plus the magnum's laser has a lock-on feature for extra damage.

    Interesting fact about the Laser Rapier, there are multiple colors of Laser Rapiers in the game. The one you first pick up in maintenance is the blue one, then I believe an Orange one is available from Storage and a Green one is available on the Executive deck. Those were the ones I found playing the backer beta, i'm not sure if there are others.

      Its neither randomized or fixed. Its based off of you UI color. Only the one in executive though. Change the UI, then pick it up, you cant change it afterwards. There is green, orange, purple, red, green, white, and the one in storage is blue.

    Favourite detail: When you hit an enemy with the Laser Rapier and you've got no energy left, it'll just lightly and limply slap the enemy across the face for no damage, because it's actually a filament sword with a name cooked up by the marketing department, and not a real laser.

    The original Skorpion in the original System Shock was a funny weapon, because its overworld sprite and HUD icon indicated it was basically a futuristic AK-47 (oddly firing 9mm pistol cartridges) and its alternate ammunition type was literally a 100-round ultra-long banana magazine.
    The Mark III rifle was basically a slow-firing high-damage semi-automatic Marksman Rifle despite the fact that it was referred to in the lore as a burst-fire capable assault rifle.

    Definitely doing a railgun justice, that thing is a beast. Also worth pointing out there's some weapon altering upgrades, so far I've only seen a upgrade that makes the Minipistol a burst-fire Minipistol but it also adds to the in-game model so might be another mini-video.

      I find it somewhat funny, that you reload it faster than it takes for the weapon to cool after firing.

      @@StressmanFIN Not being a "mmmm technically" guy, but I think it's a cool point so I'll share it. The rail gun fires a slug of ferrous metal using electromagnetic force. Now your battery ain't gonna be able to give up that much ass all at once, the throughput is simply too much, so they load it up with capacitors that can store up some of that energy and let it go all at once in a sequence that powers the rail and pushes that slug out with enough force to, well, probably punch through the hull of Citadel Station IRL (ignore that!).
      Those little panels coming back up are most likely the capacitors drawing power from the battery (your battery in this case) and locking into position to tell you that they're ready to fire again. So in this case the reload would be incredibly fast (it's just a stupid slug of metal) but the capacitors would be the real delay for another shot fired.

      @@AuspexAO You are in fact correct. Something that wasn't shown in this vid is how you can spend your own energy to accelerate the charging process by sticking your fingers in the port that says "Charge"
      I learned that from the new Firearms Expert Reacts vid... I don't actually own the game... yet.

    Optimal loadout:
    1. Rapier. Inject yourself with berserk, and use body shield mod. Can take down bosses with a few slashes.
    2. Magnum. Upgrade it to kill most big enemies in 2 to 3 shots.
    3. Rail Gun. One shot killer for most except bosses.

    For a "realistic sim" -type game, I was pleasantly surprised that not only are there more weapons than you'll have room to carry, but just about all of them kick ass. The weapons in Prey (closest game I've played to this one) feel a bit sparse and weak in comparison.

    Question for those who played, I understand that the original had a mechanic of ammunition types, was that mechanic kept?
    Seeing the dragon's breath from the shotgun I realize that indeed it is still there.

      yes, Teflon-coated rounds against armored targets for the pistol/smg, Dragon's breath and flechette for the shotgun, Incendiary and Penetrators for the assault rifle - sparqbeam and ion pulse rifle can change the power settings and the plasma rifle can shoot a bouncing projectile as a secondary attack which reminded me a bit of the pulse riflein half-life 2 (as in, it will kill you if it hits you) - there's also modkits that turn the pistol into a burst-firing almost-smg and change the three-round bursts of the AR into full auto, larger capacity mags for pistol/magnum/smg and charge-up reduction for the railgun (unmodified, there's quite a delay between trigger and discharge)

      @@m-jenny1649 yeah, the "iron sight" mode on middle mouse button only zooms in a tiny bit and slows down the player character while active - i still highly enjoyed the gunplay though, especially on the Magnum for sniping heads (or dumping half a mag into a big robot), the SMG with the magazine upgrade, overcharged sparqbeam and later on the energy-efficient Plasma rifle

    A question I have is how some of these guns work. Are the projectiles accelerated both magnetically and by gunpowder where for instance a 9mm projectile is accelerated to 3x the normal speed by a magnetic accelerator.

    What are the best guns? I keep running out of inventory space for all these guns I keep finding.

      (use the cargo lift to carry what you want "near-by" - you can also drop things anywhere and retrieve them later by going back (maybe put a marker there and remember which floor you put your "stash") - the smg uses the same ammo as the pistol, while sparq/ion and plasma use energy)
      i kept the magpulse pretty long because the energy-charged double shots (same key as changing ammo type on other guns) is decent at putting down robots, even the larger ones with two and a half shots - though the magnum is great at anything and pretty darn satisfying to use
      While you have energy to spare or have a recharge station nearby, the sparqbeam on overcharge setting (or plasma rifle in normal mode) is pretty darn great - sparq to ion pulse rifle isn't much of a leap - the rifle can dish out more energy woth of damage before overheating but is hardly worth the additional inventory space, even/especially compared to the upgraded (and larger) sparq
      Even the grenade launcher came in handy on a few occasions because the blast is instant and it fires the grenades further than you can toss them
      After pistol to smg switch, with plenty of teflon rounds, the smg chews threw machines faster than the AR with penetrators, though the AR is better at long range (i kept "sniping" with the magnum though) - this is around where i ditched the shotgun and used the ARs incendiary ammo against biological enemies instead of using dragon's breath and the SMG with teflon against robots up close or the AR with pen rounds at mid-range instead of relying on flechettes in a pinch - the six shots simply don't have enough sustain for numerous big targets at once and inventory space was running gravely low
      With room to take cover and peek, the magpulse was still fun into the late game, but smg/rifle make quicker work of robots while you can sustain them with ammo
      there's almost no railgun ammo until the bridge section (just like in the original System Shock, lul) so i dropped it after firing three rounds with it and never regretted ditching it because smg/rifle/magnum carried hard.
      Use an EMP nade against Cortex Reavers and empty your mags into them while they're rebooting, rotate into cover, reload, emp and mag dump again

      Magpulse and Sparqbeam are staples and you should carry them regardless of whatever other weapons you choose. The Laser Rapier is a no-brainer upgrade over the other two melees in the game. From there on out get a feel for what you like and don't like and carry and drop stuff as you see fit. I reccomend the Magnum because it's solid damage and relatively plentiful ammo and the Grenade Launcher because the normal grenades in this game feel horrible to use. I also reccomend ditching the Minipistol as soon as the Skorpion becomes available or you can get more ammo for the Magnum because the MP is garbage outside of the first few levels.

      It’s on the middle mouse button by default, which should tell you how important it is for the gameplay.
