The Prince Andrew debacle was a real eye opener for a lot of people, as it really put into perspective that the Royal Family are not bound to the legal and moral rulings we as U.K citizens follow everyday. It’s clear that the family prioritises their public perception and status over doing the right things, and serving their country which they harp on about over and over. This pushback from a big portion of the nation was inevitable.
Absolutely!! I think it’s disgusting that people are actively CHOOSING to forget the family’s involvement with some of the most prolific peodophiles !!!
The monarchy and all their ancestors will face final judgement right after death. Christ the King is the Judge who seats on the Throne in Heavenly Court. They will not get away with their crime.
Prince Andrew is an arrogant and not very nice man. Like Harry he always thought he would have a privileged life without having to work for it. His choice of friends and the choices he made were ill advised. However the lady who brought the allegations about him was 17 and in the UK old enough to make her own decisions. It took her over 20 years when she was married and living in Australia for her to bring charges just before the Queen's jubilee. She had already tried to blackmail another wealthy man but had lost her case. Andrew was always supportive of our Queen and helped her every day while she was in Windsor. He should accept his retirement and be left alone.

The basic foundation block of any democracy is the right to have an opinion and the right to voice that opinion, as long as it doesn't cause anyone harm. Taking that right away is another big step down a very dark road, as is 'Stop and search' without suspicion , massively open to abuse.
Here's something they don't know about the monarchy: The monarchy *DOES NOT HAVE ANY POWER* !!! The person you should complain about, the one who affects your life, is the *PRIME MINISTER* and the *GOVERNMENT* !! Those are the people you should complain about!
@@simonmultiverse6349 there are multiple confirmed accounts of the royal family exerting their not inconsiderable influence upon successive prime ministers and their governments. Having now listened to the whole video, how do the arguments match up? On the one side you have people worried about the disparity of wealth, and the need for a balancing of the scales. The other side: "he does everything for the nation".
The police have said they'll have a low tolerance for demonstrations.... Seemingly unaware that in a real democracy the state doesn't get to decide how much tolerance they will or won't have for demonstrations. As long as the law isn't broken it shouldn't be a problem. Subjects not citizens... disgusting. Resist.
The law is broken though. The recent 2023 Public Order Act bans protesters from committing acts of "serious disruption". The term is so vague, that practically authorities are allowed to shut any protest that is deemed by them to constitute a "serious disruption". If you think cracking down on protesting monarchy is bad, try protesting like French do and see how state violence unfolds. Welcome to 2023.

Democracy and monarchy are NOT mutually exclusive, and you can have a country that is neither a democracy nor a monarchy, we call them, "socialist" or "authoritarian" republics.
Don't the British MPs get elected? It's from the MPs the Prime minister and his or her cabinet ministers are drawn from. Don't the British Mayors and the councilors get elected?. @@no-oneinparticular7264 Like with any other group of people: some are quiet - some are not, some are intelligent - some are not. They are part of the country and had every right to express their oppinion. For me one of the most insulting bits was the need to actually ask permission from the police on an open pulic day like this to do what they were doing. It was a loud public gathering and arresting those who shouted what some did not like to hear - while not arresting others who shouted a pro oppinion was plainly disgusting. And I haven't seen news where a pro-monarch was arrested for "suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance"...
Regardless of whether you're a staunch monarchist or not it's not remotely ok that protesters were arrested. Freedom of speech includes freedom to express dissapproval with the monarchy and the suggestion that it doesn't/shouldn't is not compatible with the core concept of the UK as a country.

Nice to see that perspective also. I have always from British people the argument that the monarchy brings in so many tourists. As an Austrian, let me tell you: You can make even more money from tourists from a previous monarchy: All of the former palaces can be opened for tourism, used as museums, offices for the president and even lot's of flats for ordinary people
Well said - we’d earn more if they were gone! They restrict access and cost so much when people are struggling. Versailles in France welcomes more visitors and they got wise to this ridiculous institution. This tasteless display of obscene wealth is insulting to every non-oligarch in the country.
Always been my argument, tourists will still come to see the palace's and we won't have to pay billions for the monarchy's upkeep. It's a disgrace that the protest organisers were arrested, this is supposed to be a democracy ffs. Pity they don't arrest the paedo prince.

@@jimmyt_1988 I'm sure David Beckam does the same things let's make him king Attending events and cutting few ribbons here and there does not justify their existence dude!
He in essence has paid for it himself. The revenue from the crown estates which the royal family own and is given back to the government is ~300 million whereas the sovereign grant the government give to the royal family is ~100 million, so the UK government nets a surplus of ~200 million from the royal family, enough to cover the coronation!
But if you knew they are purposely killing their British Empire for a new government, would you be proud, considering they were killing their OWN COUNTRY?!?!
I agree but what does it say about Charles (and our government of course, but at least we can vote them out, not that Starmer has done any better to be fair) that he hasn’t condemned the arrest of peaceful protesters at his coronation by officers who swore an oath to him? It is often claimed that the monarchy upholds our rights and freedoms but it doesn’t seem to be doing that at the moment and I can’t really think of an example where it has ever done that. I am quite envious of many continental European countries which not only have more parties to choose from than us but also get to elect an independent head of state (along with a parliament which then chooses a prime minister) to counteract and challenge the prime minister. And often these presidents are quite popular as symbols of unity and democracy in their countries.
Royal family stinks of power and inequality. The day made me feel depressed as I am struggling with cost of living and paying bills. As a tax payer, I feel that the money could have gone to more deserving causes.
You know when you die!? Should your money go to the goverment or should you be able to pass it on to your children, regardless of them not doing anything for it
The argument that the Royals bring in tourists is a facile argument, France has more visitors than the UK, and London only has 400,000 more visitors than Paris. Both have over 19 million visitors.
Combined, Buckingham palace, Windsor and Holyrood get around 2.5 million visitors per year. The palace at Versailles, who’s last royal inhabitants were guillotined 230 years ago, gets 10 million visitors per annum. It’s not facile. It’s a lie.
The royals do bring in tourism but that’s not the only way they generate money for the country. The entire royal estate generates 1.77 billion for the country yet we spend less than £100 million a year on them.
Wow, even when you lie you can´t get your numbers straight! Hillarious! London attracts around 30 million visitors a year. They are the official numbers! That is JUST London! Taking your "only 400,000" more than Paris... Thats nearly half a million people FFS!
The Coronation itself brought in tourists. I saw lots interviewed on tv over the days saying they are in England specifically to see the Coronation. I personally know someone who's travelled from Australia for the Coronation, so of course things like this bring in lots of tourists.
Exactly! It is the castles, the palace, etc. not who is the king and the rest of them. I visited the Great Wall of China and I did not care who lived there before.
The fact that they always fall back on tourism and "bringing money into the country" is so telling if you think about it. What, that's all they do? The French have no monarchy and have no problem bringing in tourists; tourists would come here anyway, they're here to see the monarch's house, not the monarch himself. They're also here for Madame Tussauds, the Globe, the Tate Modern and everything else that has nothing to do with the monarchy.
Title: Anti-monarchy protesters say they’re not sorry for protesting at the coronation Thoughts: Well, why should they? Good protesting is a legitimate part of a democracy with freedom of speech.
I think that the idea of restraining the protests was more so that people who were enjoying the Coronation could do so without having it disrupted by the protestors. And also to protect the protestors from the wrath of the people who were enjoying themselves when they suddenly had someone screaming in their ear protesting about something they hold dear.
When there’s 1 rule for one man and another rule for another. Then there’s definitely something to protest against, there’s core problems that need to be addressed. Prime example prince Andrew not behind bars when his associates were and die behind bars.
Yh immigrants are destroying the culture and way of life we have had for years, or population has declined one percent every year for the last ten years. You have black people saying the royal family are “terribly white” like what does that even mean

Whisked away in a £100 k plus BMW . He made his choice to walk away why is the tax payer chauffeuring him to the airport in luxury . If the royal family wants to continue they should have one place of residence and all the other palaces etc handed to the state . They should use their own income to support themselves . When they say Princess Charlotte is wearing a dress by a famous designer that probably cost more than my annual salary I know enough is enough .
Apparently Old Charlie has raised an estimated £140 million (not taking into the account the efforts of those who work for him towards this) in the past 10 years. However, this Coronation has cost £250 million... Money that could have been used to help the poorest and most vulnerable, and not just for propping up an outdated, unjust system of monarchy.
