Had to use the d16 gasket because it had the oil port for the vtech. And it was thicker to compensate for valve clearance. If my memory serves me right.
@@Halffast719okay cause I’m currently in the process of trying to fix my 92 hatch that i bought not really knowing much about the mini me swap. It overheated when I started driving it and I’m currently rebuilding the head.just to make sure this doesn’t happen again do you recommend i get the d16y8 head gasket kit because the car has a Vtec solenoid,d16y8 head and a d15 block
I know someone did a great write up on a forum somewhere and I’m thinking you need some head bolts for the d15 and some for the d16 and depending on which intake manifold you’re using also the water pump, belt and tensioner I believe need to also be for the d16. Man if you could find that write up it’ll help you way more than my memory.
Looks like tehachapi?? And kuz you ride in dove too. I'm in California shitty. Lol. I swapped a full y8 into my eg hatch and started knocking today. I pulled my d15b1 and 4 speed cable trans out of my 90 dx hatch. Was gonna put it in my 90 si. But put cable trans in eg with y8. And d15b1 is sitting. Sense the y8 is slapping and the b1 is already out and trans is already in the eg I'm gonna pull the y8 out take head off y8 and put it on the b1 bottom with y8 studs and gasket I've heard you don't have to get an adjustable cam gear just use the z6 or zc gear or is that wrong?? And I am using a 96 Integra b18b ecu. With that y8. And I can wire vtec in do I need the p28 with the chip. Or just p28no chip. Or the Integra ecu?? Thanks bro. Let me know when you can. PS. Keep save on them dirt scooters. And if you sell or have any 4x4 sc10s for sale. Lol. Let me know on that too. Lol
Depends on what year the car is. In 92 the harness was already wired for vtec. So if it’s not a 92 then you need a harness but if I remember right you can just run 2 wires from vtec solenoid to the vtec ECM. If your car is OBD1 then you have to use the d15 harness if it’s OBD2 then you have to use the d16 harness.
Yes I did but I ended up drilling and machining for the d15 idle air control valve. I ran the stock intake for about 15000 miles and wanted to see what difference the y8 did and it improved acceleration and top end but got worse fuel mileage, I ran that for about 8000 miles then sold the car and I still see the car around but I don’t know what the kid has done to it since he’s owned it.
do I need a specific cam gear or any d16 cam gear and also head studs which ones great tech video the timing is very important so you said four degree advanced maybe I have to have some one but a great starting point to know thanks again
Nicholas Johnson I used a ebay adjustable cam gear and advanced it 4° on the gear. I used honda head bolts but I'm sure there are other companies out there.

I really want to get this started and it’s in my eg sedan 95 it smokes and I have a good y8 head I just want to know what would I need to do for it all to work out ? D15b7 block and a z6 head would have been easier. But the y8 does work just have to mess with the cam gear. Also z6 timing belt is the right one for b7 z6 not sure on y8. Good video
westleybates 20 if I remember right the 92 was the only year that has the wires already ran to the ecu. You’ll have to run the vtec wires to the ecu once you chip the ecu. I can’t remember what pins you have to run them to but there’s a lot of info on the forums. Hope this helps.

Man,thanks for doing this and video taping it..I have a 92 eg8 and my engine is b7. I was trying to find information on this swap and this video has giving me a lot of info! Is the engine still running fine? Any problems come up since this build?
I've put 9000 miles on it without any problems. I think my VTEC solenoid went bad. It doesn't hit VTEC anymore. But that's an easy fix. I get less gas mileage is the only real problem I personally have with doing the swap.
Dizzy guts same for obd1, I'm now running b7 internals in z6 housing. U lucky the td41u mates to y8 because I had mine held to z6 by like 1 and 1/2 bolts after serious dremeling, though it ran great it looked very jerry rigged.

I bought the car with the swap I drove it for 2 years then went to start it one day an it wouldn't start up I changed the distributor, plugs and wires, new fuel pump and filter has spark and fuel I think it jumped timing
I'd check the compression in each cylinder. that'll tell if it jumped a tooth. if it did, it might be worth doing a new timing belt, water pump and tensioner. but you'll need the pump and tensioner d15y8 block and the belt for the zc head. the timing marks are easy to see. single mark on bottom pulley is top dead center TDC. and there's two marks on the cam gear with the word (up) up goes up and the two marks should line up with the top of your cylinder head.
I know this is an old thread but in a case like this you do not want to turn it over anymore than you already have. It should be torn down to look at the timing marks and inspect the belt and water pump.

either get an adjustable cam gear or it could be the wrong timing belt. you have to get a belt that's for the head.
Is this murle from twd
I need help my 1990 civic same setup except the can gear...I need help timing it
if you mess up the lower timing cover, there's a timing mark behind the crankshaft pulley.
I'm from upstate wed land
Nice no check engine light
lol why a y8 head and not a y8 manifold
jonathan pamela I did install the y8 intake manifold. there isn't a spot for 2 sensors on the y8. I had to have it machined for the idle air control and air temp sensor.
sound like 70 yr old man lol
