For the first time ever on this channel we jump onboard the iconic MD-11.
Take a look inside the cockpit of the legendary Martinair Cargo McDonnall Douglas MD-11F departing from Amsterdam Schiphol.
Take-off at 05:20
Flight started on the cargo S-apron on Schiphol east. Next we taxied out to take-off from runway 24 followed by a BERGI1S departure heading west towards the UK and the atlantic. 9 hours later the flight arrived in Miami.
The McDonnall Douglas MD-11 has played a major part in Dutch aviation, but is now unfortunately part of history.
KLM retired their last one in 2014 and subsequently Martinair send their last one away in July 2016, indicating the end of an era.

Het is nu 3.5 jaar geleden dat jij voor de allerlaatste keer van Nederlandse bodem vertrok opweg naar de woestijn. De foto’s die online staan van je in 2019 zijn verschrikkelijk. Ik weet nog goed dat op 27 Juni 2016, 1 maand voordat je zou vertrekken, ik met me pa naar Hangaar 11 was gegaan. We waren daar de hele middag en avond, waar we ook aten. Je kwam rond 5 uur aan uit Miami, en zou daarna vanaf het R platform helemaal via G2 naar onze kant opkomen voor je allerlaatste check. Dit was tegelijkertijd ook de allerlaatste check op een MD-11 voor het TD Team. Zo ongeduldig als ik was, zat ik de hele tijd te zeuren bij TD wanneer ze naar ons toe kwam, had ik misschien niet moeten doen. Uiteindelijk begon de tow rond half 8, en was je om 10 voor 8 eindelijk binnen. Het was zo’n gemixt gevoel. Ik was blij, want ik zag mijn favoriete kist weer, maar het was ook de laatste keer en wist dat ik afscheid moest nemen. Ik kwam de cockpit in en heb daar alle tijd gewoon gezeten, aan elk knopje gezeten, elke synoptic nog eens goed bekeken, gekloot met je ramen. Helaas hadden we haast en was het na 10 minuten toch echt alweer tijd om te gaan. Nog 1x keek ik in je vrachtruim met me pa, en daarna was het opweg naar huis. Een maand hiervoor vloog ik voor de laatste keer je simulator zusje, Mary. Met een rondvlucht boven SXM, opstijgend vanaf baan 10, rechterbocht en klimmend naar 18.000 voet kwam ik na een uurtje weer aan op het veld. Met mijn bezoek aan jou was het dus toch echt gedaan. Ik heb Mary laatst bezocht in Augustus, ze staat er nog maar er is niet veel van haar over. Alle displays zijn eruit, meeste overhead panels zijn ontmanteld, de handvaten van de stuurkolomen zijn weg en de throttle quadrant is er nog maar zit helemaal los. Ook toen heb ik een goede 20 minuten alles aangeraakt, gedraaid, omgezet of ingedrukt wat ik maar kon. Alles nog een keer goed voelen want straks is het weg. Ngl het doet pijn, meer dan je verwacht van een metale bak wat paarden over de atlantische oceaan brengt, of nouja, bracht. De stabilizer motion callout is nu een mooi geluid ipv een irritante callout. Ik ben ondertussen ook gestopt met het vliegen van je op de PC met de PMDG, je word te oud. Ik hoop in ieder geval dat het goed gaat daar in de woestijn. Laat ze niet teveel van je afbreken zoals ze bij Amy en Marie Curie hebben gedaan. Maurits

Um, how does one go about working for a cargo airline? Thank you.
You need at least 20ish hours of in flight training with an instructor and another 20ish solo flying hours, then once you get your license You go to college to get necessary degrees and then do more flying to get qualifying hours to get hired. A good way to do that is being an instructor, you get a pay, you can fly more often with less cost. And you get to help others learn aviation. Once you have enough hours you try to get hired but keep in mind that the airline you chose will rank you up the longer you stay with them, but leaving them and joining someone else will put you on the bottom again no matter your hours. Fed ex has a good program that interns students to fly the cessna caravans. Then once out of college they promote you to the atr 72. Once with enough hours you move your way up the ranks. This is what I want to do and a good way to keep learning your aviation skills is with online study kits that break down the engineering of the plane and the piloting itself so your always ready to practice what you've already learned with the study kit.

Great video as always. To stop the instrument panels from strobing you could try shooting at 60fps instead of 50fps, with a shutter speed of 1/120. Give me a shout if you need help, I'd be more than happy to join you on your next flight!

Question: The cockpit screens look quite sophisticated for an MD-11. Is this a kind of enhanced cockpit version?
José Vicente Cruz over the years of the aircraft lifespan they update their avionics the Md11 is a newer version of the Dc10
José Vicente Cruz this is a normal MD-12 cockpit. I think you’re thinking about the DC-10 which has analog gauges
But I thought there's md10 with is a dc10 converted to md10
