⚠️ Lengthy post alert. You have been warned. ⚠️ I honestly love Ritual Monsters, even though I understand that they're terrible in the context of modern YGO, which contributes to their overall forgotten status. One of my personal favourites is Odd-Eyes Gravity Dragon, which I wish Yuya used (just *one* instance would have been enough) since Ritual was the only summoning method he didn't use; he even tribute summoned a few times. What's worse is the effect fits perfectly for anime writing - put Yuya up against someone playing heavy or oppressive backrow (not quite Crimson & Steel Chain levels mind you 😂), such as BB - would have definitely made that duel better instead of the muckshow we got - and have him summon Gravity Dragon to make a typical protag-style comeback and... _voila_ anime asspull & badass summon rolled into one. Alternatively, they could have given Reiji an awesome D/D/D Ritual Monster early-ish on to further show his own mastery over every summoning method and continue to build him up as this incredibly skilled duelling prodigy. But that's what happens when you've got too crowded a cast and quite frankly poor writing (egao >>> interdimensional war, we get it) - you miss out on opportunities that would have been *so* easy to write in without really changing the story. For example, it's by no means perfect because I'm literally thinking of/writing this on the fly but this is how I would write in Reiji getting a D/D/D Ritual Monster... • Ep.23 stays largely the same, with Yuya learning Fusion in order to defeat Meiru, the first - and only - Ritual user we see (until Season 3 anyway, making it a new summoning method never previously shown/used before, including by Reiji). • Axe most of that post-duel scene since at least 90% of it is irrelevant and instead cut to Reiji, who was sat in his office watching the duel (he was already keeping tabs on Yuya since he believed Pendulum Summoning would save the future, so it would make sense for him to continually monitor its first and best known proponent in action wherever possible). He mutters that Yuya has finally begun to evolve as a charisma duelist and faintly smiles. • We're then treated to his internal monologue about how interesting this new 'Ritual Summoning' is (in the same way as he did when he first heard about Pendulum Summoning), and although he has never encountered it before, it appears much easier to learn/understand - he vows to do so immediately in order to have as many tools in his arsenal as possible - the battle to come will take everything he's got and more (or something equally as ominous... as long as it hints at a bigger overarching plot that we as the audience aren't privy to yet it'll do - it gives the audience their first taste of Reiji being 3 steps ahead of everyone else). Ep.23 ends here. • Ep.24 is almost identical as far as main plotline is concerned, but we'll add an incredibly brief scene at the beginning (literally like, 10 seconds if that), where Reiji is studying a window on his screen with blue monsters (Rituals) and spells (Ritual spells) and doing that OTT typing animation that must legally be present anytime a writer wants to show that a particular character is clever. We could even show sheen/glare on his glasses to really emphasise that. 😂 • When it next cuts to him (just as Shun & the LDS Trio begin their duel), we see Reiji close the window (a progress bar finishes and a message saying 'Sent' flashes briefly before - in the following episode this would be revealed to be card data for a D/D/D Ritual Monster & Spell, which has been sent off to be developed) so he can spectate the duel. As soon as Shun wins, Reiji calls his developers to ask if "they" have been completed yet - he is told so but warned that no testing has been done - he dismisses this concern, stating that 'an opportunity to conduct the field test has presented itself.' • The episode then continues as normal (the Yuzu & Yuto scene followed by Shun meeting Reiji face-to-face). This time, Shun outright challenges Reiji, who simply states 'I would _rather_ talk but seeing as you're clearly a man of action, that would get us nowhere.' and readies his duel disk, thinking to himself _"time for that field test"_ (or something equally cool, calm & collected as would be befitting of his character, I'm not the best at writing dialogue lmao). Ep.24 ends here. •Ep.25 is virtually unchanged since the main focus is the Yuya & Gongenzaka duel; the one scene where Shun & Reiji will discuss Leo & Duel Academia shows them in the middle of a duel first - Shun has 4000 LP & controls Rise Falcon, while Reiji, about to take his turn, has 4000LP & controls a stacked board (the exact board state doesn't matter since it's only meant to continue building Reiji up as this incredible duelist; I'd personally give him Doom King Armageddon, Flame King Genghis, Gust King Alexander & Wave King Caesar, with Scale 10 Savant Kepler & Scale 1 Savant Galilei in his Pendulum Scales). • Reiji draws for turn and we see the top of the card he pulled - it's a blue monster, causing his eyes to widen in anticipation. He gives another cliché Yu-Gi-Oh-esque short speech, this time about how he plans to use his complete summoning mastery to save their world, but in order to do so there is one more method he must first master - while he is speaking we will be shown flashbacks of him creating and sending those cards to his developers (this is where the Ritual Monster reveal bit takes place) - he then proceeds to Ritual Summon his new monster and OTKs Shun with it (don't ask me how haha, it doesn't exist so give it any effect you like as headcanon, within reason of course lmao). Then story exposition between the two happens and then cut to Yuya & Gongenzaka as normal. Honestly I'd rather have a *full* duel between Reiji & Shun but for this amended scene to fit in the episode it would have to roughly be the same length as the original, meaning we'd only see the conclusion & subsequent exposition. I know this is a long AF comment but keep in mind if animated, these scenes wouldn't take more than a few minutes each so as to fit within the same time constraints as the originals did. I'd like to think this would be an improvement, but given just how many people in the community have rewritten Arc-V is some form or another (to better results), it's not exactly a standout achievement. 😂 If you got this far, thanks for coming to my TED Talk. 😂
That was in the digital arc there properly just added this new 5 Headed dragon into the game. After all the latter made Casual Monsters and Kaiba corp grand prix had 5 headed dragon as a fusion.
in the DM anime it was a Ritual that required 5 monsters of different attributes and wiped everything on summon in exchange for not attacking that turn. After DM anime (IRL and GX onwards) it was a fusion of 5 dragons
I said it on YGS's recent video on "An Idiots Guide to Pendulum Summoning" and I'll say it again. Adding Pendulum Rituals would be a serious boost for the monster type. Conceptually, their pendulum effects could be ritual spells, or you can pendulum summon pendulum rituals without needing to tribute, or really anything. In recent years there have been some decks that have been able to work them in well, but you'd need to run a deck based around them. Atm, you can't really just slap any old ritual in a deck and still have a cohesive build (unless you add more than just a few and basically make it a ritual deck, defeating the purpose of sliding a few in). I'd like to see a proper expansion to ritual summoning, like possibly Ritual monsters that serve as the spells whilst in the hand, and you can activate them to summon themselves without the need for a specific ritual spell. Maybe in YGO "Eights", but let's not get our hopes up...
I think that’s what Megalith was trying to do, but Pendulum Rituals would be really neat ngl. I want to start theory crafting but a Pendulum ritual card artwork doesn’t exists sadly
My two cents on Rituals: In anime they looked cool but actually playing them is cumbersome with having the Ritual Spell/Monster and acquired Tribute fodder on the ready. Wasn't until generations later, Rituals would get support every so often let alone have a meta Ritual archetype.
Hey, thanks for showcasing my favorite summoning mechanic in Yu-Gi-Oh. Was kind of hoping you would have showcased Vivian Wong's ritual monster "Dragon Lady," but I understand some of the featured demonstrations of ritual summoning fall through the cracks. BTW, my favorite ritual summon from the Yu-Gi-Oh anime is "Magician of Black Chaos."
It's likely because they aren't played too often due to requiring not only both the monster you want to summon and it's ritual spell card in your hand, but you also need enough monsters of the appropriate levels as well. As a result, it can be pretty difficult to play ritual monsters, which has lead to them not being used often in real life, which in turn means that there isn't much support printed for them
@@alicepbg2042 Late but the unproducitve loop, even WITH support for Rituals (however limited) does mean they don't have engines and means to feed around, plot armor be damned. The difficulty of them prior to the recent sets feeds to players wanting to seek the route of Fusion and other ED methods and thus lead to the loop that if they can't be used IRL, then there's not much support printed for them, and some players are into the anime so if they don't show off the cool Ritual Summons, then there isn't much support printed for them... The end of VRAINS at least does give some light but to me... not all light is equaldistant.
That would make them even harder to summon. That's why a lot of decks don't use fusion monsters that require exact names. Ritual are like prototype fusion cards.
@@Snowberries17 I mean, Drytron actually do that, they break the mainstream and use ATK instead of level ... and look at them now in competitive world ...
I have always loved ritual summoning its honestly such a cool method. Sad that even in the show where dimensions are named after summoning methods there isn't a ritual one
So the Japanese version of anime exoida necrosis was counted as a ritual monster So did anything in the og yugioh anime not get changed like crazy on ether version compared to irl card version XD
The BLS summon still has to be one of the best. Actually prefer the dub’s light and darkness intertwine line more. And then Mai just surrenders, like that’s the power ritual monsters should basically have. It’s almost weird we have BLS and Chaos Max but then Konami was like here’s also an evil hamburger and a messed up turtle (as much as I love those cards too ha)
Just to clarify, I mean the mechanic as a whole. List all the good ritual decks you want, there are at least 5 times as many for each other special summon mechanic.
My favorites are from the original series that adapt the manga scenes. In Takahashi's Yugioh, the monster becomes the new Ritual monster (unless stated otherwise like with Ritual of the Masked Demon Beast that just needs a light and dark offering). Gaia goes through the gates of chaos to become Chaos Soldier. Black Magician in the manga matches Yami Yugi's colors (blond hair with blue armor and red around the rim). Black Magician becomes Magician of Black Chaos. BMoC is the epitome of Yami Yugi's bondage design. There's just something different about the summons after the original series. They just don't have... soul... to get me excited. Chaos Soldier and BMoC, for example, gave me chills. But I like Vishnu though. She got nice oppai and double cheeked up. Props to the anime staff for that.
Zexal was so focused on XYZ summoning that I actually didn't find out Photons had a ritual monster until I started playing Duel Links, a little before I got to the Kaito vs Heartland duel, but even with it's suprisingly good effects for a Photon monster that wasn't GEPD, I never expected to see it used in the anime. When I got to the duel and saw the summon I was legitimately shocked and thought "Holy shoot they actually did this, it's incredible" Kaito in a show where everyone spams XYZ monsters as their aces just comes in with both Fusion and Ritual summoning with an ace being a Tribute/Special summoned monster, like dear god, he feels like he would have had a Synchro monster if synchros made appearences in Zexal, considering the Galaxy Eyes archetype and it's supports has monsters for every summoning method but Synchros in the Master Rule format
Honestly I’d love to see a new series come out and have the Mc use ritual summoning as his main tactic. Maybe even give him a different monster type compared to the usual “dragon or warrior” focused decks.
I would like to see a list related to Maximum Summons but since only 5 have made appearances in the anime so far, it’ll likely be a Top 5 best maximum monsters list. Number 1 will likely be Yggdrago or Vast Vulcan.
Cyber Angle Vrash or Black Luster Soldier are the two best for me the latter as its the first time we really see Ritual Summon and the former just wipped the field like a wreaking ball. Its also a real shame that Asuka kept getting the raw end for number of duels in both Arc-5 and GX as she was really the only Ritual Summoner in all the serises and those one esspecially and it would have been nice to see her duel Zarc honestly, have her duel with Jack and Gong would be the best place to put her, or right after Gong was taken out. Also that duel does show how forgotten Ritual Summon is as Zarc never had a plan for a Ritual summoner.
My all time is Atem Summoning his "Magician of Black Chaos". I haven't seen VRAINS, but I'm surprised that they're using such a Forgotten Summoning Mechanic.
Ritual is my favourite summoning method as one of the first ritual monsters was the (arguably) most famous member of the chaos archetype (other than chaos MAX dragon) BLACK LUSTER SOLDIER
I like the Ritual concept, but I wish they could be made into an extra deck type- would make it slightly smoother to play. Love Cyber Sngels & BLS sets along with Rin & Demise.
This did make me realize something. Unless Kaiba kept in Paladin of White dragon, I think that Yugi is the only character that didn't play a ritual focused deck that ran more than one ritual monster.
For your next top 10 list, I'd love if you could do 'Top 10 battle royals', that is, duels involving more than two people. These were actually pretty uncommon in the Yugioh anime and it would be cool to look at some of the best.
you know I called it out. the Big 5's 5 headed dragon text is wrong on fusion materials. they mentioned all but light attributes. however Deep Sea Warrior and Nightmare Penguin are both Water attributes and Judge Man is a Light Attribute. so they're missing Fire and Wind
Deepsea and Penguin are WATER, Judge Man is EARTH, Robotic Knight is FIRE, and Jinzo is DARK. one of the 2 WATER deck master must've been WIND in the anime
I've often wonder should Rituals Finally be part of the Extra Deck? Or would that make Rituals Broken some how? Because I found myself asking why Rituals aren't in the Extra Deck, and the answer that I often come up with is that the reason that Rituals is Not Part of the Extra Deck is because there isn't an Yu Gi Oh Anime Focused Exclusively on Ritual Summon with Syncros and XYZ and so on, I'm not sure if that true but still I often wonder.
I don't necessarily know if it would make rituals broken, but considering that the extra deck already uses fusion, synchro, xyz, link, and pendulums (which get sent there from the spell/trap zone when destroyed), adding yet another summoning mechanic to that pool would restrict the limited space we already have to work with it even further. Besides, it wouldn't make much sense to suddenly change them to extra deck monsters after they have been part of the main deck for so long now (it seemed to be the main way they separated them from fusions back in the day), not to mention they'd probably have to rework a lot of rules to accommodate this change
@@matthewkuscienko4616 I Guess You're Right I guess I was just looking at the Uniformity, along with having Rituals in the Main Deck almost Feels like it kind of sticks out in terms of the Uniformity that I mentioned. But overall I Agree with everything that you've said.
@@motodog242 Yeah, but the different dimensions for the different extra deck summoning mechanics don’t have the other summoning mechanics in them until outsiders bring those cards into that dimension. Yusaku: A contract has been made. The sage who wields dark power inherits the two souls. Ritual summon!! Descend, Cyberse Magician!!
Judai/Yugi: *Huh?*
Judai: What did you just say?
Yusaku/Yuga: You mean the summoning chant?
Yusa: Dont you use it too?
Yuga: You use the summoning chant when summoning a powerful monster. Especially the ace one. It should be cool and awesome!
Yusa: Exactly.
Yugi: So I should shout it loud in a duel?
Judai: No way! I am not saying something cheesy like that. Who created these CHILDISH summoning chants anyway? Must have been Yuma or Yuya.
Yuga/Yusaku/Yusa: *Points to Yusei*
Judai: IM SORRY!!!!!😭
Yusei: **deadpan** Just keep dueling😑
xd
Atem: "Hey, I did summoning chants before it was cool."
Alexis Rhodes deserves more attention
Something to think about: anime Zarc WASNT immune to Ritual monsters!
(The Nephyis archetype feels like a perfect counter, since they can even use Zarc’s destruction effect against him)
I forgot the specifics, but I'm pretty sure Alexis's ace had some sort of Anti-Extra Deck effect, so she probably could've creamed his ass barring Bullshit Villain Powers
@@TheDarkjoker99 yes, she got the strongest ritual monster in the arcv anime
Kite being the only Zexal character who ritual summoned
Love how youtube knows exactly what to show me
I'm currently building drytrons and magikeys, 2 decks that use ritual summoning
With this video we can say Asuka is the true ritual player.
Blue-eyes Chaos Max Dragon's summoning was epic.
⚠️ Lengthy post alert. You have been warned. ⚠️
I honestly love Ritual Monsters, even though I understand that they're terrible in the context of modern YGO, which contributes to their overall forgotten status.
• When it next cuts to him (just as Shun & the LDS Trio begin their duel), we see Reiji close the window (a progress bar finishes and a message saying 'Sent' flashes briefly before - in the following episode this would be revealed to be card data for a D/D/D Ritual Monster & Spell, which has been sent off to be developed) so he can spectate the duel. As soon as Shun wins, Reiji calls his developers to ask if "they" have been completed yet - he is told so but warned that no testing has been done - he dismisses this concern, stating that 'an opportunity to conduct the field test has presented itself.'
• The episode then continues as normal (the Yuzu & Yuto scene followed by Shun meeting Reiji face-to-face).
If you got this far, thanks for coming to my TED Talk. 😂
Drytron was meta and they're still good even with ban list related nerfs. And spoilers, it's a Ritual focused archetype.
@@ShiningJudgment666 Yeah I know, I love them for precisely that reason!

I can't wait to see your list of Best Xyz Summons and Pendulum Summons
my favorite ritual summoning will and always will be Blue-Eyes Chaos Max Dragon
Asuka's chest is The only buff she got in arcv
That and her lipstick.
So... we are just gonna ignore she received a very strong ritual for its time?
Being a Machine-Type specialist, I have always lamented the lack of Machine-Type ritual monsters...
Well those are almost every ritual summon in the series dxdx
Awesome video
There are so many underrated Characters in Arc-V. Aura is one of them.
Ah yes the good old days where Five headed dragon was a fusion ritual monster…….wait what? XD How did the anime get it mixed up?
At least they corrected this in gx of judai vs trueman
That was in the digital arc there properly just added this new 5 Headed dragon into the game.
After all the latter made Casual Monsters and Kaiba corp grand prix had 5 headed dragon as a fusion.
I'm still waiting for that Ritual version of Five-Headed Dragon to come out for real.
in the DM anime it was a Ritual that required 5 monsters of different attributes and wiped everything on summon in exchange for not attacking that turn.
After DM anime (IRL and GX onwards) it was a fusion of 5 dragons

As a Cyber Angel Player I can say Ritual Summoning is awesome.
Wahhhh I miss Watching Alexis doing the rituals. Plus her Cybers is so pretty
My two cents on Rituals:
In anime they looked cool but actually playing them is cumbersome with having the Ritual Spell/Monster and acquired Tribute fodder on the ready.
BTW, my favorite ritual summon from the Yu-Gi-Oh anime is "Magician of Black Chaos."
rituals really do get the shaft. They just don't appear enough, but at least they have cool summon animations. (which the other summons also have...)
It's likely because they aren't played too often due to requiring not only both the monster you want to summon and it's ritual spell card in your hand, but you also need enough monsters of the appropriate levels as well. As a result, it can be pretty difficult to play ritual monsters, which has lead to them not being used often in real life, which in turn means that there isn't much support printed for them
@@matthewkuscienko4616 it's the anime, they have plot armor to draw the correct cards.
Also the anime version or card of santity
@@alicepbg2042 Late but the unproducitve loop, even WITH support for Rituals (however limited) does mean they don't have engines and means to feed around, plot armor be damned. The difficulty of them prior to the recent sets feeds to players wanting to seek the route of Fusion and other ED methods and thus lead to the loop that if they can't be used IRL, then there's not much support printed for them, and some players are into the anime so if they don't show off the cool Ritual Summons, then there isn't much support printed for them...
The end of VRAINS at least does give some light but to me... not all light is equaldistant.
Blue Eyes Chaos Max Dragon is my favorite.
His cry was godzilas cry
I love how the enemy is just like "gishki da to!?" Everytime they ritual summon like it was that big of a deal
What would be interesting is if, in the beginning, each Ritual Spell actually had special requirements for its summon.
That would make them even harder to summon. That's why a lot of decks don't use fusion monsters that require exact names. Ritual are like prototype fusion cards.
They could have additional effects according to the monsters used or extra requirements are met.
@@Snowberries17
I mean, Drytron actually do that, they break the mainstream and use ATK instead of level ... and look at them now in competitive world ...
I have always loved ritual summoning its honestly such a cool method. Sad that even in the show where dimensions are named after summoning methods there isn't a ritual one
So the Japanese version of anime exoida necrosis was counted as a ritual monster
So did anything in the og yugioh anime not get changed like crazy on ether version compared to irl card version XD
Fortress whale it was a cool monster then so meny years later it finally got an upgrade lol
2:52 damn😳
One of my favorite summoning methods. Not really meta, but there is something satisfying for me when I pull them off.
Nekroz says hi.
Umm...Drytron is meta
Just to clarify, I mean the mechanic as a whole. List all the good ritual decks you want, there are at least 5 times as many for each other special summon mechanic.
@@randomprofile5853 to be fair the functioning of dryton streach the ritual definition quite a bit
I fun fact actually main a ritual deck alot
Black Luster Soldier will always be the best ritual summon. The OG.
Can’t help but think that if ritual monsters were in the extra deck it would solve a lot of the problems
I'm glad Drytron exists to give ritual mechanics more to work with.
When I got to the duel and saw the summon I was legitimately shocked and thought "Holy shoot they actually did this, it's incredible"
Kaito in a show where everyone spams XYZ monsters as their aces just comes in with both Fusion and Ritual summoning with an ace being a Tribute/Special summoned monster, like dear god, he feels like he would have had a Synchro monster if synchros made appearences in Zexal, considering the Galaxy Eyes archetype and it's supports has monsters for every summoning method but Synchros in the Master Rule format
Surprised that there was no ritual summons in 5Ds I can definitely see Akiza, Luna, Divine, or the Dark Signers using them
DSOD is probably the inspiration that brought Vrains
I cant wait for a link summoning and pendulum summoning video. Hopefilly you have a great day dylan
Top 10 best general Ritual materials. Sphere Kuriboh is definitely 1 of them.
Atem Magician of Black Chaos is the best one. He came from clouds.. so nostalgic!
Love how some of these ritual were only rituals in the anime like 5 headed and exodia necross
My personal favorites:
1. Kaiba summons Blue-Eyes Chaos Max Dragon
2. Yugi summons Magician of Black Chaos
3. Meiru summons Prediction Princess Tarotrei
4. Joey summons Lord of The Red
5. Soulburner summons Salamangreat Emerald Eagle
6. Playmaker summons Cyberse Magician
7. Ai summons Water Dragon @Ignister
8. Asuka summons Cyber Angel Benten
9. Pegasus Summons Relinquished
10. Yugi summons Black Luster Soldier
10:29 - that's impossible, no one's ever been able to summon him
What is the Five headed Dragon summoning theme? It sounds sick as hell
Blue Eye Chaos Max Dragons the strongest ritual monster
Ritual is my favourite summoning method as one of the first ritual monsters was the (arguably) most famous member of the chaos archetype (other than chaos MAX dragon) BLACK LUSTER SOLDIER
Can we get ritual summoning for series 8?
12:56 LMFAO dude that is literally MOBC's ritual spell card but with the silhouette of Blue eyes white dragon 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Awesome. I love ritual summoning
Bruh I haven't watched Arc-V's first episodes in a long while and only now do I realize that Aoi Yuki voices Mieru lmao
If only Mieru joins Lancer and met Asuka in fusion dimensions in the series.
Joey had Paladian of Black Dragon and Black Dragon Armor, you just watched both of them.
Hopefully RUclips doesn't forget this video like we did with the summoning method
For your next top 10 list, I'd love if you could do 'Top 10 battle royals', that is, duels involving more than two people. These were actually pretty uncommon in the Yugioh anime and it would be cool to look at some of the best.
I wonder if it's an error when Deepsea Warrior and Nightmare Penguin were both Water attributes.
0:13 Nekroz players: How dare you?
you know I called it out. the Big 5's 5 headed dragon text is wrong on fusion materials. they mentioned all but light attributes. however Deep Sea Warrior and Nightmare Penguin are both Water attributes and Judge Man is a Light Attribute. so they're missing Fire and Wind
If Season 4 of GX was longer, I wonder if Jaden could do perform a ritual summon.
I think the fact that Alexas summoned a Ritual Monster when she’s from the Fusion Dimension debunks the existence of a Ritual Dimension in Arc V
Her "ace" monster is a fusion monster, though.
@@motodog242 Yeah, but the different dimensions for the different extra deck summoning mechanics don’t have the other summoning mechanics in them until outsiders bring those cards into that dimension. For example, the Synchro dimension didn’t have fusions until Jean-Michel Roger brought them. So for Alexas to have Rituals, either the mechanic exists in all dimensions or Alexas is originally from the Ritual Dimension, and adopted Fusions to blend in.
The Magician of Black Chaos was an awesome summon when Yugi dueled Pegasus.
How do you skip Shinato and include random summons like Dokurorider and lycanthrope???
My favorite Ritual monsters are black luster solider and magician of black chaos those where the Best ritual Summons of all time
