I just brought the 1800 dollar model like a week ago and it is amazing I upgraded from the MacBook Air 2019 so this is a very significant change in performance I can finally get serious with my video editing thanks a lot man.😊❤️
Dude your speaker comparisons! I love it! And thanks to your efforts and quality testing, you can hear that the $1800 MacBook Pro has the improved speakers. I put on my headphones and can easily tell the $1800 one has more bass and a wider range.
There's been a lot of Apple hate on the internet about the 2020 MBP refresh. This video is a good counter perspective. Max explains that the $1799 model is a WAY better value than a comparably configured 2019 13" MBP, and explains what you get for the extra $200 it takes to buy the $1799 model over a base model with 16gb ram and 512gb SSD. People are entitled to their opinions, but sometimes the "hate" makes them not see the value in the new machines and could lead them to make worse purchase decisions for themselves. Thanks Max for another great video!
isjoining Air’s speakers sound better, no doubt. I don’t know... it seems like they have not treated carefully the 2020 base pro, while the higher end got so much upgrades and cares...
I'd like to see a comparison against the high-end i7 CPU so that I can see what the best performance I can get in the new 13 MBP is. Can you get a comparison / perf test of that somehow?
Don’t bother with the i7, performance isn’t noticeable compared to the price youre paying. Get the higher end model as it is and upgrade the RAM if you want but if you want to spend more get the 16”
13" vs 16" inch with both i7/32GB RAM/1TB SSD is still 320 Euro (470 Euro including Apple Care+) more in The Netherlands including tax. While in my case I don't need the extra GPU and opted for a smaller and more portable 13" device.
@Seven V I don't agree. You might want a maxed out 13" to be much more portable and light to carry around but to attach to another screen(s) in a home studio setting. I too am interested in whether the 2.3 i7 is worth it over the 2.0 i5.
The main difference is the processor and the graphic card, 16" Macbook pro runs an i7 9750H, those chips are high performance chips. Power consumption is higher but the bost in performance is very significant, in addition, the independient Radeon pro 5300M card will give you a way better experience and a much higher graphic performance.
@@PiErDzoncy7 Higher end $1799. Need solid performance, especially performance that'll last me a good 5-7 years if need be. Given that I'd upgrade the SSD and RAM of the base model anyway (am into amateur photography), the step to $1799 is a given... except it's not $1799. That MacBook costs approx. $2300 in Sweden, where I live. It'll have to be an investment!

fantastically informative video! While there isnt too much of a performance diff between the 2 models now, will the one with the 10th gen chips be more futureproof? Say i am looking for 1 that be good for at least the next 6 years, then is the 10th gen model more worthwhile in the long run?
cam s. I recommend getting the second to highest model. In my case the $1700 one. Just got it. LOOOOOOVE LOVE LOVE it. It does get a bit hot but not enough to lag or stagger. i5 was the big deal breaker. Now I can Zoom, work on presentation, use iPad Pro as 2nd screen and plug more stuff into usb c x4 without having people ask me to mute myself bc my fans are too loud. I just upgraded from base model MacBook Air.
Great video Max! I had a question regarding the 32GB LPDDR4X of the 13" MBP ram vs the 32GB DDR4 of the 16" MBP. The upgrade from 16GB to 32GB for both is $400, but what's the difference in performance between the two types of RAM. I know LPDDR4 is "low power," but is it 10% slower, 20% slower, etc? I'd love to know. Also for the $1800 Macbook Pro, is it worth it to upgrade to the i7, or is that pointless because the laptop will never reach the peak turbo clock speed due to thermal limitations. Thanks :)
For day-to-day tasks, you definitely won’t notice it. For video editing, especially CPU-based rendering, there might be a difference but I really wouldn’t call it significant especially if you’re comparing LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X which is just a minor revision of the DDR4 spec. AMD systems, on the other hand, interfaces with the RAM slightly differently and there might be a more pronounced difference but I still wouldn’t call it significant. This is not an AMD system though. You might be confused with the frequencies and you might associate it to CPU speed. But please take note that the frequency of RAM dictates how fast data can be moved in and out of the RAM. While CPU frequencies refer to how fast data is processed. There aren’t many workloads that requires that much data exchange between the cache and the RAM, given rhe amount of cache in modern CPUs and how optimized compilers are nowadays. Anyway, I realized I should have just given a link to benchmark test of how RAM affects performance of various workloads but there you go, you can just google those if you want.
I'm currently using the 2020 MacBook Air, i3, 8GB RAM and I'm returning it because of thermal issues. I just heats up to 80-100 way too easily without doing intensive tasks and its frustrating. I've ordered the new 2020 MacBook Pro 13" $1800 model with 512GB and 16GB RAM and I'm super happy I made the right choice since its clearly better than the $1300 model. Can't wait for it to arrive!
Great video. Thank you!! I've considered my needs and I've decided, that I'll be ok with base model with extended RAM to replace my MP Pro 13 mid 2012.
So does the $1800 MBP have a overheating problem or something similar? I am deciding between the base model and the higher end model. I would like to know your thoughts. Thanks!
Yep $1799 Model is the one to get no doubt. A shame Apple did this as a smart upsell method but in turn it does bring good value vs previous model vs the previous model. Thanks for this Max. Well done.
And by waiting for. I mean it’s the video I was hoping to see after I couldn’t just wait and ordered the 1800 model assuming it’d be more than just 2 ports and an updated CPU better than 1599 for the lower end with bumped RAM and SSD
Thank you for releasing this video mate. Cant decide if the base model would be good enough for casual use as I'm buying an iMac or should I get the model the 10th generation chip.
What about the temperatures of these 2 machines when you just do regular tasks, such as web browsing and watching youtube videos (not benchmarking tools and intensive applications)? Would the $1300 mbp run cooler in this case?
I guess the $1800 will only get heat up during extremely heavy load. As you can see the comparisons in the video, under moderate work load, it is easier for the $1300 model to get heat up and higher fan speed. I agree with Max that Apple has aggressively tuned the $1800 model to be able to max out its CPU capabilities when the application software demands so, probably due to its dual fans.
Very nice video! Damn you really make the BEST comparisons! And besides that you are one of few who (thankfully) show us the webcam and speaker quality live! Thanks man! One of the best channels:)
Your percentages are off... 5:46: Single core performance...1,214 vs 925. It's a %27 difference, not %30. 6:02: Multi core performance...4,385 vs 3,928. It's a %11 difference, not %13. 7:17: Graphics...10,154 vs 6,885. That's is %38 difference, not "more than %50"! (it's a huge difference between %38 vs %50 and i was about to pull the trigger on the 10th gen just based off that info!). 9:05: Gaming test...13.5 vs 10.7. That's a difference of %23, not %30.
I am considering buying Macbook Pro $1800 model vs Dell XPS 13 in similar price. I can perform my daily tasks in both Windows and Mac OS platform. Which one will you recommend?
I just got the new 2020 13" Pro today - iStat Menus is not showing me all of the sensor data (only SSD). Is iStat not update for the new machines yet? What are you using to monitor temps and fan speed in this video? Thanks for the comparison!
Great video, and insights. For anyone considering buying, I’d like to share my experience: would strongly not recommend buying. I bought the $1800 model two days ago. Wonderful design, feel, size. But it was broken/defective. If I played certain sounds at full volume the built in speakers would cut off, and would not work again until closing the computer and opening again. Also tons of latency in logic (even on low latency mode) and even cracking noises. When I went to return the laptop at the Apple store I met someone else who had the same problem. So Apple is selling a defective product for $1800. I love Apple, and use logic, but this might be enough for me to make the switch.
Hey guys! I need help, I'm planning to buy a MacBook but but I don't know which one. I basically do office work and play like three games like Sims or pubg. Which one would be the best?
I have iMac 27 2019 but looking to purchase a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. The MacBook is mainly to do work remotely... any recommendation on how to chose one?
is it worth it to order the 32GB RAM for the higher priced model? I'm considering buying, and it's like 400.00 more. but I figure if I'm spending so much in the first place, if it could help in my photo editing/video editing, perhaps it's worth it? Thank you. I really like the 13" model, so that's what I'm looking at now.
hey there wanted to buy a macbook pro.. but now i am confused what to buy between refurbished macbook pro 2.4 ghz 2019 model for 1359$ or the new macbook pro 2020 for 1299$.. pls can you help me to pick the right one between these two.
I’m thinking of upgrading. Currently using my MBA 2014 for very basic use but I do plan on dabbling in photography in the near future. Is the 2020 MBA i5 good enough for things like Adobe LR or am I better opting for the higher end MBP?

Would it be a big difference if you got the $1299 MacBook Pro base model with 16GB RAM instead of 8GB RAM ?
Can't wait for $1799 13 vs base 16"!
Vatsal Goyal +1
This one would be the shopping trial to me.
Put both of them up against the $630 Acer Swift 3 Ryzen 4000, lol.
love to see this comparison as well.
@@willl5410
Intel can't compete with new Ryzen. Apple is lazy and settled for Intel.
There’s no diff in vid and audio quality however the speakers sound different, the 1800 one sounds cleaner and a bit louder
Yes the speakers have a big difference! You can see that later in the video when we take the back lids off! -Vadim
@@MaxTechOfficial how does the 2 thunderbolt base macbook pro compare to the new macbook air in speakers?
I feel like there are some differences in video and mic quality. obviously higher end one's are better
isjoining Air’s speakers sound better, no doubt. I don’t know... it seems like they have not treated carefully the 2020 base pro, while the higher end got so much upgrades and cares...
Max Tech not no $500 difference Lmaoo.
My heart says the $1800 model, but my wallet says base model 🥴 Maybe I’ll make a decision after WWDC 😂
Your wallet will win 😏
To me, i will pay by installment 6 months 0% APR and go for $1,800
SAME. I’m really only in the budget for the 1200 dollar model but the 1800 model seems much more worth it. Ughhhh idk what to do
hey which model did you buy after wwdc.
I am confused that the processor will be changed.
elif I didn’t buy anything yet 😂
I'd like to see a comparison against the high-end i7 CPU so that I can see what the best performance I can get in the new 13 MBP is. Can you get a comparison / perf test of that somehow?
Don’t bother with the i7, performance isn’t noticeable compared to the price youre paying. Get the higher end model as it is and upgrade the RAM if you want but if you want to spend more get the 16”
Amd ryzen 4000 series laptops are already out for sale, 8cores 16 threads, 16gb ram for around 1.5k
Artist modro ok
13" vs 16" inch with both i7/32GB RAM/1TB SSD is still 320 Euro (470 Euro including Apple Care+) more in The Netherlands including tax. While in my case I don't need the extra GPU and opted for a smaller and more portable 13" device.
@Seven V I don't agree. You might want a maxed out 13" to be much more portable and light to carry around but to attach to another screen(s) in a home studio setting. I too am interested in whether the 2.3 i7 is worth it over the 2.0 i5.
Thanks for the in-depth look. I would like to see the 2020 $1799 13" vs the 2019 $2399 16".
Going to try to film that on monday!
The 13" will get destroyed. Why is a review needed? Quad-core vs hexacore.
How does the $1799 13" handle final cut?
The main difference is the processor and the graphic card, 16" Macbook pro runs an i7 9750H, those chips are high performance chips. Power consumption is higher but the bost in performance is very significant, in addition, the independient Radeon pro 5300M card will give you a way better experience and a much higher graphic performance.
This is the one I've been waiting for
Need one for school so I don’t have to shift through tabs on my phone to work on assignments anymore 😂
Matthew Bermudez i feel ya brotha
This is the best video to compare the two MBP 2020 13''. Great job!
Hi Max, how does the battery life compare between the 2 models above given the different processor, battery and fan config internally?
Great video, super useful! Is there any difference in battery life between the two?
Thank you so much for your in depth performance comparison... it helped sooo much with deciding which one to get 👍🏻
Excellent review and comparison as usual. Keep up the great work. Much appreciated.
Finally the most awaited comparison...thanks man!!
Out of all the 2020 MacBook Pro videos yours have been by far the most informative, cheers mate !
I’d love to see a comparison of the i5 MacBook Air and the entry MacBook Pro. Trying to decide between the two.
Filming that now!
Agreed!
Kythlo Macbook Air 🤢🤮
@@MaxTechOfficial thanks, waiting for it
I love this review because this guys voice isn’t annoying and his background is visually appealing. Also concise.
This is exactly the video I've been looking for - great stuff!
What is your decision then?
@@PiErDzoncy7 Higher end $1799. Need solid performance, especially performance that'll last me a good 5-7 years if need be.
Given that I'd upgrade the SSD and RAM of the base model anyway (am into amateur photography), the step to $1799 is a given... except it's not $1799. That MacBook costs approx. $2300 in Sweden, where I live. It'll have to be an investment!
@@von_Hagen why not just buy the base model first and trade it in for the 14inch arm processor early near year ? That is what I'm gonna do
Hey man, I never really leave comments on anyone's videos, but your content helps SOOO much and I really appreciate it! Very thorough! You helped me decide which iPad to get not too long ago! Keep up the great work!
Mark my words MaxTech you're gonna go all the way up on RUclips beating 1m subs real soon
I always watch tech videos from bigger guys, you're actually the one doing great job
I bought a MacBook pro-2019 base model pre-owned in 600 bucks yesterday. Was it a good deal? The computer is like new.
Which one of these two should I purchase if I want the quietest MacBook?
Neither, you're welcome!
I like the fact you do all these diagnostic tests. Much appreciated!
That’s stimulus/benefits checks come in handy for this 😂
This is all good to know, I have ordered the $1799 model. I am happy especially with the reviews going around!!
You think of a comparison, Max does it asap
fantastically informative video! While there isnt too much of a performance diff between the 2 models now, will the one with the 10th gen chips be more futureproof? Say i am looking for 1 that be good for at least the next 6 years, then is the 10th gen model more worthwhile in the long run?
You forgot to check the battery test, due to the 10th gen being more power efficient it should reduce the battery time but is it big enough?
10 gen is not efficent at all expensive ones battery life is worst compare to base model
Okaner Okan should I get base or high end I need help
Moogly Googly I'm planning to buy one. Is i5 10 th gen not good? I don't do video editing or gaming!
What do you think if I buy base model($1299) with a 16GB ram. Is it a good combination for a developer use?
Please do the eGPU test on both units! Would be interesting to see how this stacks up against the 16 inch MacBook Pro.
As a current MBP retina mid 14, do you think this upgrade is worth it or wait for the 14” macbook?
Thanks :)
Soul It’s both faster and lower power. But RAM speed should not be a factor in your buying decision. It’s not that significant.
@@iamunknownperiod3355 Why do you say that it is not significant?
How does the 10th gen i5 hold up to the 10th gen i7? Is it worth it upgrading to the i7?
Oh wow, there's actually a quality speaker difference! So glad you uploaded this, that's a pretty important bit of info that isn't obvious from apple
Thanks!
I'd love to see a dedicated 4k editing video using the $1800 model with final cut, davinci resolve, and premiere pro.
Nicholas Smith THIS!
Yep $1799 Model is the one to get no doubt. A shame Apple did this as a smart upsell method but in turn it does bring good value vs previous model vs the previous model. Thanks for this Max. Well done.
This is the comparison video I was waiting for
And by waiting for.
Would the $1300 mbp run cooler in this case?
probably, i just got the 512ssd 8th gen and uped the ram from 8 to 16!
For these tasks don’t worry you’ll never hear your fan. I’ve got a mid-2013 MBP and yet I only hear my fan when using iMovie
I honestly believe if you were to compare both in normal day tasks like web browsing on multiple tabs and show it to us it’ll help us decide 👍👍
Who buys a MBP for web browsing?
this is the best audio comparison I've ever seen
Already know it’s gonna be a good video.
2020 baseline 13" macbook pro or the top model 2020 macbook air? theyre both at $1299, cant decide
(a-b)/a vs (a-b)/b 🙄🤦🏼♀️
hey there!
@14:55 what's the app called you use on your MacBooks to showcase temp/rpm/ cpu/gpu usage?
thanks in advance
Speakers don’t even matter, in 2020 everybody uses airpods😂😂😂
I don’t
Not me. I use Bose headphones

I still use corded earbuds in 2020 😱 the horror
I think they matter to people who are in music production
I am considering buying Macbook Pro $1800 model vs Dell XPS 13 in similar price. I can perform my daily tasks in both Windows and Mac OS platform. Which one will you recommend?
Nice comparison, straight to the point hitting everything 👏🏼
I just got the new 2020 13" Pro today - iStat Menus is not showing me all of the sensor data (only SSD). Is iStat not update for the new machines yet? What are you using to monitor temps and fan speed in this video?
Thanks for the comparison!
Can you please do a comparison of MBA 2020 with base model MBP 13 2020
Please
They just have difference in generation of chips
Yes we will film this comparison today!
Thanks man, you are the best
Love your videos, they are very detailed
Keep up the good work
Great video, and insights.
Is AppleCare+ worth the investment for the $1800 model?
Hey guys! I need help, I'm planning to buy a MacBook but but I don't know which one. I basically do office work and play like three games like Sims or pubg. Which one would be the best?
Just ordered the high end one with 32GB of RAM. Need it for 4K editing badly.
I have iMac 27 2019 but looking to purchase a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro. The MacBook is mainly to do work remotely... any recommendation on how to chose one?
Max Tech: “I have both models of the 13” MBP”
Me: “Order still processing.” 😩
Scott Miller SAME!
At least you can afford it :D
They get review units
Same. Kept refreshing and no change yet
is it worth it to order the 32GB RAM for the higher priced model? I'm considering buying, and it's like 400.00 more. but I figure if I'm spending so much in the first place, if it could help in my photo editing/video editing, perhaps it's worth it? Thank you. I really like the 13" model, so that's what I'm looking at now.
I was waiting a 14" to replace my old 2013 13" MBP
I think I will wait bit more
hey there wanted to buy a macbook pro.. but now i am confused what to buy between refurbished macbook pro 2.4 ghz 2019 model for 1359$ or the new macbook pro 2020 for 1299$.. pls can you help me to pick the right one between these two.

Would you try a 16" VS 13" MacBook Pro 2020? (Specially for video editing)
Ramses Alonso I had to return the 16 inch tooo heavy im going to get this one
I’m thinking of upgrading. Currently using my MBA 2014 for very basic use but I do plan on dabbling in photography in the near future. Is the 2020 MBA i5 good enough for things like Adobe LR or am I better opting for the higher end MBP?
