Yes, ma'am. Once upon a time REO Speedwagon was one of the most rockin' bands that toured the midwest every summer. That was before they became a pop/ballads band. You should do this whole live album, one song at a time. It's fantastic, start to finish.

Great musicianship. "157 Riverside Ave" was their first hit song from their first album in 1971. That "Gary on the telephone" part was from a live concert addition; not on the original song...
One of the best live albums ever made. A Rabbit hole you need to go down!!! Ridin' the Storm out is a must listen from this album. Love your reactions!!!
Saw REO in Indianapolis in 1979 at the Old Famed Market Square Arena..Blackfoot opened the show .2 friends and myself took 14 doobies in and came out with 13...some guys on the floor next to us kept firing them up and passing them around ... REO was so polished even back then .
My wife was at the show (as a 16 year old) where they recorded Golden Country. Halloween at Market Square Arena (you hear Kevin wish everyone a Happy Halloween at the end).
Yes, this given album is pure fire. Not a bad tune on it start to finish; it's one of those albums that makes time fly! Great road tunes. This album plays routinely in my machine shop.
Love this song!!! I got to play this back in high school. My poor wife has had to hear me play that bass solo so many dang times, but it's so fun! These guys were so great.
I know I said I wouldn't leave any more comments, but your charming disposition and attitude makes me still have hope for human kind! The truth is I'm going through some really rough patches, and that's why I didn't believe I had the motivation to watch RUclips and leave comments, but not giving in to your darkness and being resilient is one of many ways to defeat those enigmatic evil forces! I know everyone has a cross to bear, but I just wanted to let you know about me because you are a very positive and optimistic person, and participating in watching and leaving comments on your channel and others is very helpful in so many ways! I wish a happy ending for all because we all deserve relief from whatever agony we're going through! Take care everyone and try to keep smiling! Bye! One more thing! I can certainly describe myself as tenacious, and will never give up until my last breath! Adios Angela!
Yes!!! I've probably listened to this one more than any other. My other favs are "It's Alive" by Ozark Mountain Daredevils, "Live- Takin' the Stage" by Pure Prairie League, "All the Worlds A Stage" by Rush, Live (Fleetwood Mac) 1980, Willie and Family Live and of course Frampton. Not a normal list but I'm not normal. What are you others for me to listen to or revisit?

Well, the song was from their 1971 debut album, but this is the 1977 live album, as shown. A different singer from the original, but this has always been a showcase for Gary Richrath's guitar work, and we get him (and Neia Doughty on the piano) at their best here. Kevin Cronin (singer) always liked this for live shows, since he could put in stories (Kevin LOVES stage patter) about Gary "talking with his guitar" and so forth. There are versions where they stretch this out to 15 minutes or so, always fun. On the debut album, this is part of a three-song story. This is about meeting a girl, "Lay Me Down" is about when she comes over, and "Sophisticated Lady" is about the aftermath. ("Lay Me Down" is on this same live album, and there's a live version of "Sophisticated Lady" on the "A Decade of Rock & Roll" greatest-hits package.) Keep digging in the older stuff! The "big hits" of the 1980s are very different from what built the band. Heck, just keep going with this live album. Start at "Like You Do" and work your way through to "Golden Country" at the end,. You will NOT regret it! Thanks.

I got so burnt out on all those REO ballads, that I couldn't listen to them anymore. I never did like their ballads and they just got worse as time went by. I've been saying, the only song I like anymore is Easy Money. I forgot about this one. Ridin' the Storm Out and Only the Strong Survive are pretty good too.

It sounds like Kevin Cronin, the lead singer, was making a joke when he said the name of the bass player. The bassist at that time was Gregg Philbin, and Cronin said "That's Regis on bass guitar". In the early 70s, talk show host Regis Philbin had a Saturday night tv show in St. Louis. REO started at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

One of the best live albums ever 'Live: You Get What You Play For'. Check out "Ridin' The Storm Out", kick *ss rocker. Also, how can you beat album titles like 'You Can Tune a Piano, but You Can't Tuna Fish'; complete with the songs 'Roll With The Changes' and 'Time For Me To Fly'. 'Hi Infidelity' has too many hits to mention, and another great album title.

You note there's not a great amount of response to this pick. This is typical of many reactions, where many of the better picks don't get response, while many boring songs get too much. As far as REO Speedwagon, this is probably about as good as any of their recordings. The live version of Riding the Storm Out from this live album is probably their next best. Sad that the responses don't match the reality. Thumbs up Angela. (P.S. though. The scat singing he did was actually quite impressive. Give it a try sometime) You were right that this is much better than their boring ballads.
