I agree! Just admiring all of the cool guns you've shown us so far...I too have a long wish list...Colt SAA in 45LC, SW model 41, Cowboy style lever action rifle in .357, 1967 Mustang GT, the undying love and dedication of Keely Hazell...LOL
These Colts are accurate I remember plinking beer bottles off an old washing machine @90 yards then my preteen daughters were sweeping the broken glass off the top showing off
The price of the Colt ar's appears to have more than doubled in the last three months. It's all crazy. But at 60 yards that was good shooting for anyone. Nice work Bro
It doesn`t have a muzzle brake. It a flash supressor. 8.5 pounds. The heavy barrel rifles do tend to be more accurate, but the difference isn`t that much and you won`t notice it until you get to longer ranges. The ARs may not be a great choice for home defense unless you live out in the sticks like I do. A round from a centerfire rifle can go through several walls and into other houses.
I saw one of these Colt Sporters at one of our local gun auctions back in Nov strange thing was the lower was marked .222 Rem. Never seen anything quite like it last auction there was one of those Bushmaster bullpups too had a few odd ones come through last few months.
Q: On the Hbar that has the SCREW instead of front takedown pin, that is sized larger and is slightly offset ... Anyone run across any info on installing a SLEEVE in UPPER and LOWER so a regular sized takedown push pin, and regular Mil spec uppers can be used?
Ever get an answer to this? I'm building a colt sporter target lower and I have the same issue. I wonder if I can drill into the mag fence to add a detent too.
Daniel Weinberg. Have not run across ANY INFO of someone adding a sleeve. OPTIONS BELOW. Oh.. Many, many years ago I drilled lower receiver to add spring +detent, detent made out of a drill bit... and via using one of those aftermarket push-pins with a spring loaded ball on one end. Drilled the hole in receiver then modified the aftermarket pin with a slot and a depression at end of slot that matched the detent I had made. It works great. PS: Postings I've run across make a BIG DEAL on drilling the hole. Don't remember it being that hard. Options I've run across to be able to use current mil-spec uppers vs having a upper/lower than can't be swapped out. 1: $$$$ Welding lower /upper then redrilling taledown pivot hole (s). Note hole is offset. 2: Adding a sleeve (my idea), or using epoxy. With lowers being made out of plastic, this should be doable as rear pin would be metal to metal connection and epoxy should hold up to any recoil.
Beautiful AR. That barrel is massive. This has a differnt twist rate than the regular AR or am I thinking of a different gun? I'm a sucker for the old school carry handles. Dam good shooting!
Accurate shooting & virtually no recoil? I guess; heavy barrel + M-brake = low recoil. Was looking at Colt M4 Sporter (with red dot) because I like the 16" barrel for both shooting & HD. But this plus other AR posts may change my mind. I still see used Colt HBAR 20s out there. I like the accuracy that comes w/heavy barrel. How much does it weigh? How do you think something like this (20" barrel) with a red dot would work for HD compared to Sporter, PSA or other lighter weight ARs? Great video!
Really don`t know. But Colt, as a company, has always been pretty resistant to change. They rarely change anything unless they are getting skunked on a lot of sales. It took 10 years for them to decide to offer high bevertail safeties on their 1911s after their competitors started doing it.
That`s about Blue Book for one. But unlike most Colts, these tend to sell for less than book value. Most younger people seem to want newer AR with rails and about 15 pounds of junk hanging off the rails. :) That helps drive down te prices on the older ARs.
Jeff Goldammer 1700? Wow I paid $749 for my mt6601 hbar round 2005 that makes me feel good It was a Sunday night last few minutes at gun show I think the guy might have let it go at reduced price he looking for gas money
Ammo is still scarce around here. I was burning some of my cheap reloads. One good thing about winter and dead grass. Makes finding your brass easier. :)
Things are starting to come back at least here it is. I was at the gunshow today few dealers had great prices one had 6920s for $1150 he had Del Ton basic carbines too for $750 the take down 10/22s for $325 to give you an idea. Ammo, BCGs and a few other things though are still out of sight cheapest .223/5.56 I saw was some of the American Eagle 62 grain stuff I got for $13 a box and 9mm cheapest I saw was 250 UMC packs for around $100 and BCGs were $275-$350. 5 Okay Industries mags $50 too.
Drool. I know it is fashionable these days to want an M4 etc. etc. blah-blah.... But purely on the grounds of aesthetics and just being right these HBAR A-2 match rifles are just perfect. Well for a gun with no wood. Or lever. Or can't fire black powder. ;) Super stuff. Thanks for the video.
ANYONE run across a method on installing a SLEEVE into the forward takedown pin holes so regular size takedown pin could be installed... so Mil-Spec UPPERS could be used? (And or you could use lower on numerous Mil-Spec uppers on the market ?)
shep....I have the exact same rifle brand new my dad has given too me ... still have box and original plastic never fired blue label ...same exact model serial number mh0389xx... can you tell me anything about it ... should I lave it as is and not fire it or is it just another rifle?
No problem. I understand completely. I don`t do political videos. But that`s not because I`m trying to avoid it. It`s because other people already do, and do it much better than I would. As a hard core Libertarian, I think the only difference between the government and the mafia is...........Well, when I can think of a difference, I`ll let you know. :)
Yeah I felt the trigger and it sucked. It didn't bring much money though sold for $1000 and that was right in the middle of the buying spree. They had it on "I have this old gun" on American Riflemen a couple weeks ago and looked like an absolute nightmare to take down to clean. You needed a string as part of the break down never seen anything like it.
Likely that rifle was mismarked. You see that now and then. Saw a S&W model 15-3 that was stamped 16-3 a while back. The gun was of the era when the K-32 was still made, and the model 15 and 16 used the same frame. A frame probably got put in the wrong parts bin at the factory and got put together as a 38. I shot one of those Bushmaster model 17 Bulllpups once. Neat rifle, but it had an awful trigger.
Anything that says Colt on it keeps going up in price. But the Match H-BAR wasn`t cheap when it was new. About $600 in 1992. Which in today`s dollars would be around $1,600. Or about the same as a high end AR-15 costs new today. And collector value drives it up a little more. But take a look at what older Colt SAAs bring these days.
My wish list is way to long to fit in a 500 character reply. Let`s see, S&W models 16, 25, 30, 33, 43, 45, 48, 51, 57, 58, Colt Peacemaker, Cobra (preferably 22), a buntline SAA, To make this list short, at least one of everything and anything I don`t already have. :) No such thing as too many guns or too much ammo. :)
That sure is a nice looking rifle! (wish it still had the lug so it can make the ban freaks angrier) Just another reason to get out of the democratic people's republic of Maryland and the clutches of Kim Jong O'malley.
I have the Colt AR-15 Sporter Competition HBAR, its in mint condition and shoots beautiful.....I love Colt's.....Good video Shep.
Thanks.
Mine shoots flawlessly !
I have the same rifle, I cant get tight groups. It was suggested that I use a 62 grain bullet instead of 55 grain, what are you using in the video?
I have the Colt Match Target..Heavy barrel,scoped,and a mag well grip...Excellent rifles...Great video...
I agree! Just admiring all of the cool guns you've shown us so far...I too have a long wish list...Colt SAA in 45LC, SW model 41, Cowboy style lever action rifle in .357, 1967 Mustang GT, the undying love and dedication of Keely Hazell...LOL
ARs tend to be very accurate rifles, and a lot of fun to shoot.
Wish Colt still made these. That is a pretty rifle. :)
I had one just like that, but foolishly sold it. Smoothest shooting rifle I've ever owned.
Bought mine in 1993 new for $1150 and still have it.
Nice. I bought a couple of uppers but have not gotten the lowers yet. I can't wait to take them out.
I have a green label 6600 a great AR indeed ! They can keep this new stuff everyone is making.
It doesn`t have a muzzle brake. It a flash supressor.
8.5 pounds.
The heavy barrel rifles do tend to be more accurate, but the difference isn`t that much and you won`t notice it until you get to longer ranges.

That is still a good grouping for 60yards with open sights.

JSE Surplus has the offset spacers for the large hole upper to fit a standard lower. It's called a Colt Receiver Offset Bushings $3.50 ea
I hardly ever sell or trade a gun anymore. Over the years I`ve let some good ones get away and always end up wishing I had kept them.
I think it's good shooting, they're all head shots. I have the Colt M4 carbine, love it. Cheers
Just found one of these with box manual and sling for 1k, think I'll buy it....
tienes una coleccion muy bonita , sobre todo los revolveres. saludos desde españa
even though it says .223 on the lower, is the barrel 5.56 chambered?\
Yes. All Colt AR15s are chambered for 5.56 even though the early ones only had .223 marked on them.
Next video will be of an Olympic Arms CAR-15. Had it out same time as the Colt. Just have not posted the video yet.
A classic, awesome rifle sir.
Nice rifle! You know I always wondered why Colt did the whole two screw front takedown pin setup? An accuracy thing maybe?
If I remember right, it has a 1 in 7 twist. Was supposed to be better for heavier bullets. But it does pretty good with my cheap 55gr reloads.
wow brother she is nice. Thanks for showing us. God Bless brother.
Beautiful AR. That barrel is massive. This has a differnt twist rate than the regular AR or am I thinking of a different gun? I'm a sucker for the old school carry handles. Dam good shooting!
Not bad shootin at all. Beautiful rifle buddy.
Accurate shooting & virtually no recoil? I guess; heavy barrel + M-brake = low recoil. Was looking at Colt M4 Sporter (with red dot) because I like the 16" barrel for both shooting & HD. your thoughts on current value, im looking at one for $1700??
That`s about Blue Book for one. But unlike most Colts, these tend to sell for less than book value.

Cool vid. Man you must have one of the coolest gun collections of You Tubers...what if anything is on your wish list?
Was bushmaster available when you bought this gun?
Ammo is still scarce around here. I was burning some of my cheap reloads. One good thing about winter and dead grass. Makes finding your brass easier. :)
Dang very nice ,, I need one of this lowers
Thanks
ive seen some a2 match HBARs but they dont have a flash hider, did you add one on?
His came with one. I have the same one. If you see these without the flash hider that means they are from the ban era.
It is a very pretty rifle. :)
what's a good price for the barrel/fixed sight
Thanks.
Saw you showing off your new toys. Have you tried them out yet?
Also had a CAR-15, with the lug, out on the same day I was shooting the Colt. Just have not posted that video yet.
I have the same gun with a much higher serial number! In the 60tys??? I bought mine in 2008 but mine has the bayonet lug ???
US Army taught us to put our nose on the charging handle.
The sandbag did all the work. All I had to do was remember not to jerk the trigger. :)
Things are starting to come back at least here it is. what a sweet gun! great gun for these times :)

Looks good!
nice looking AR,
Which round does it take 5.56 nato or .223
I’m trynna figure that out
looks great
If you can`t beat em, vote with your feet.
I have an early version of that rifle. Its built on an A1 lower and has no sear block. Serial MH002xxx
The gun control nazis took it on the chin today, but it`s not over yet.
Thanks. But the sandbag was doing all the work. :)

cock the weapon
Thanks I figured that out but thanks!

Had the Olympic Arms CAR-15 out the same day. Just have not uploaded that video yet. It has one of those evil lugs on it. :)
You need a bayonet lug on it. You can kill a lot of things with bayonets like Zombies and wear wolfs
TheDcgj45 :)
LOL have fun and be safe.
Nice. I got one with MH 065XXX
K Nasty I have one made in 91. Mine has a serial number of MH0020xx. It's made on an A1 slabside lower.
Awesome… SO we're basically brothers!
Thanks.
I have the same gun....I never used it yet....It is still never used.
Unless you really have a burning need to hang 10 pounds of junk on your rifle, this old R6601 Colt works just fine.
much appreciated
That sure is a nice looking rifle! (wish it still had the lug so it can make the ban freaks angrier) Just another reason to get out of the democratic people's republic of Maryland and the clutches of Kim Jong O'malley.
You`re welcome.
nice
jeffrey ng Thanks.
Think I gave $500 for this rifle. But that was 20 years ago. :)
Not at all. Extra busy season at work and lots of home maintenance jobs to do.
Sorry for getting political. Still nice rifle!
Thanks.
Thanks.
