I think the interesting thing when considering the best state for coasters is if you also consider the nearby states. If you only include coasters in the actual state, I agree California is one. But if you consider the rides in nearby states as well, I think Pennsylvania runs away with this considering you're within 2-3 hours of New England, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio.

Growing up in eastern PA, it never really dawned on me that amusement parks and roller coasters were not common everywhere lol
We were so spoiled. Literally had Hershey, Knoebels, Dorney, Great Adventure, and all of the stuff at the shor within like a 2 hour drive. Then there were small parks in-between lol. So spoiled and didn't even know.

I lived the majority of my life in southeastern PA but for ten years lived in Southern California, ie the two top spots in this list are my two homes. So I feel this comment. It’s extremely relatable. It wasn’t until watching coaster videos on RUclips that I realized how lucky I’ve had it.
With that said if I’m going to compare the two - for parks in general, it’s California but for coasters specifically it’s a lot closer. Especially when you consider that right now, in PA, I have a roughly equal drive to get to Great Adventure in NJ as I did to get to magic mountain when I lived there

  • @liambrake

The odds are stacked against literally every state in this list for California, except for Alaska and Texas. California is 163,696 mi². While states like Ohio clock in only at 44,825 mi², and Pennsylvania only at 46,055 mi². Ohio and Pennsylvania are not even a third as large as California yet their coaster lineups are almost better. Landmass should have been taken into account in the list because part of going to amusement parks is the trip in between each park and how long the trip is. California is literally bigger than Germany by a margin of over 25,000 square miles (about the size of West Virginia). If you look at things proportionally, California is definitely not the best state for coasters.

I've not been to Six Flags Great Adventure New Jersey since August 1981 though, and back then I thought Rolling Thunder sucked even though it was the longest, tallest and fastest coaster I rode until May 21st 2018 at Cedar Point, when I rode Raptor; the 1st coaster I rode to beat Rolling Thunder's stats. Even so: Coaster at Playland was the best coaster I rode until I rode Gatekeeper, Millennium Force, Steel Vengeance and Top Thrill Dragster. (In that chronological order). honestly California does have some really, really, good, fun, coasters but the thing is California is insanely expensive (being here for almost my entire life I got to see this place get more and more tricky to live in). Though, if you really love the coasters there and are willing to pay, go ahead! The coasters are amazing, probably not worth the money, but worth the experience for sure!

  • @colesmith7509
    @colesmith7509 3 года назад

Though the parks here small lineups, most coasters are really high quality and large scate
    Seaworld- Kraken, Manta, Mako
Busch Gardens- Iron Gwazi, Cheetah Hunt, Sheikra, Kumba, Montu
Universal/Islands of Adventure- Hulk, RipRide Rockit (even though it's kinda awful), Velocicoaster, RIP Dueling Dragons
And then the uhh yeah ones
Hollywood Studios- I think it's probably garbage but Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
Fub Spot Parks- White Lightning, Mine Blower
Disney Parks- lol no (unless you count Everest and Test Track)

I was born in Pennsylvania, I live in Maryland now but I've only been on coasters in Pennsylvania and Virginia. I have only actual coasters in Pennsylvania in my recent trip to Hersheypark. I have to give my favorite coaster to Candymonium. It was a great 1st real coaster. It was very smooth and all out good. But since I only went to Hersheypark during Christmas Candylane, I've only rode around 4 coasters but 6 in total .(in Herhseypark) I am looking foward to a next visit there whenever that may be.

Florida should be no lower than #2. All our parks are open almost 365 and they're all open right now. Also, we have hands-down the best collection of coaster _attractions_ in the world, Hagrid's, Space, Big Thunder, Expidition Everest, Velocicoaster, Gringott's, Atlantis. eventually Tron & Guardians.

missouri, in my opinion, has the best collection of wooden roller coasters of any state. boss, screamin eagle, american thunder, prowler and outlaw run basically cover all the bases in terms of history, intensity, and uniqueness. i go back and forth between whether missouri or indiana has the best woodie collection but missouri's wooden coasters feel more diverse i think is what makes them edge out indiana for me
