I loved this dub of this show, it was hilarious. I was so disappointed to learn they never dubbed the whole show, this was the ONLY anime I ever watched in Japanese. Whenever I'd re-watch it I'd always watch the first 22 (The Shin arc) in English and then from 23 on I'd watch in subs. Shame this series isn't as popular in the US as it is in Japan.
The Japanese intro is iconic, but this intro is badass showing how dark and violent Fist of the North Star is along with Ken’s violent and sadistic nature and people blowing up.
When I was a boy and saw this version the part with amoeba and the music playing always gave me chills. For me, the opening music for both versions is good, but it's clear this is on a much darker vibe that kinda sets the tone for the death and murder.
This opening is a lot more in line with the manga's tone. No heroic music and darker colors prominently featuring violence, even when the anime toned it down.
I watched Fist of the North Star on STARZ!'s Action Channel as part of ''Animidnight'' and Showtime Beyond and It was AWESOME!!!! I can watch Fist of the North Star Anytime I want,Whenever I want to Watch.
Loved watching this on Starz or wherever I could. Was always great to see it come one, just upset they never dubbed the full series. I do have all of the series now, but wish they had finished the dub with Lex Lang and the cast. The same guy who did this, did Street Fighter 2 V's intro song which was good too.
I remember watching street fighter 2 the series, fist of the north star, hellsing, and berserk on starz, the shows that were too dark and gorey for toonami also would have been heavily censored to even aired on adult swim
Me and my wife where still in our 20s and this came on one of the showtime channels back in the day this bubblegum crisis, black magic 88,and a whole bunch more miss those days or was it Starz it could have been
that anime movie from 1986 is basically a uncut version of the anime series, it features more gore and violence in detailed (and it's also available in English dub, you can find it anywhere easily. unlike the dub of this series, which has been lost in obscurity). the only downside of movie is that, it's a "movie". it tries to adapt a 28 vol long manga into a 1 and half an hour long movie, in the process it abandons basically 85% of the source material, and in the end it doesn't even makes sense as an coherent story. it also forgets a lot of key feature in the favor of more gore/violence and action
@@jbkb24 Only the first 36 episodes were ever dubbed at all. The Discotek releases have the dub for those episodes but the rest of the series is subtitle only.
Winnie the Boogaloo the original audio was very low quality from the 80s. It would be okay if the sound were just a bit better. I had the same issue with other older anime as well
I like this one a lot better than You Wa Shock. The U.S. theme sounds more mystical and serious. You Wa Shock sounds like an 80's rock anthem (which is awesome in its own right, don't get me wrong!)
I am currently rewatching the FotNS series and i am on episode 37. I personally believe that this intro is far better than the 80's version. Why? Because it gives me the chills every time i listen to it. Not to say that "Ai Wo Torimodose" is bad.
ive seen the original and the dubbed version of the opening theme, this one was almost like rock the dragon from DBZ when it had a english opening. Got you all pumped up ready for action. The original opening had more of feel to it as well as the ending themes!
this hokuto no ken english intro is not bad but nothing can definitely beat the original japanese intro of hokuto no ken because the original japanese hokuto no ken intro is full of epicness and manliness i'm not gonna lie lol
Japanese Version: 80s Pop-rock, shots of characters, motorcycle riding, bicep flexing, desert landscape. American Version: Loud electronica, punching, exploding bodies, eyes popping out, explosions, faces splitting apart, blood and guts everywhere I want to punch out a tiger too. Mad props to Mike Egan. The US Dragonball Z opening was similar. Much more testosterone than Head Cha La, which puts me to sleep before the episode starts. Regardless, for Japanese, their versions are better.
Yeah I don't care about the newer ones, I like the old one I guess because it had a special charm to it. It was in the days when animation was very low budget, you can tell when they use the same shots A LOT, especially in the first 30 or so episodes, I liked the semi-cheesy music that they'd use whenever something was going on, I liked the fairly basic sound effects also and the WAAA TA! Screams. But, most of all I liked the writing of the show and the characters.
This opening is... Actually pretty damn epic. Sure, it's no Ai Wo Toridamase but the beat's mysterious and appropriate. Does contain a fair number of spoilers though.
RENCAS!!!!!!!! I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM YOU IN LIKE FOREVERS!!!!! i thought you'd have shut down or something but glad ur still kicking. indeed we need to bring fist of the north star to ALL the anime fans, AND HARD TOO!!!!!!!!
It says music by 'Reinforced Records', is this the same Reinforced Records that the likes of Goldie, 4hero, Randall and other drum and bass artists were signed to in the early nineties? Seems like too much of a coincidence not to be true
I Agree Man! Even Though I'm A Big Naruto Fan And Its My 6th Favorite Anime, It Doesn't Compare To Fist Of The North As Of Being One Of My All Time Favs Right Next To DragonBall Z, Yu Yu Hakusho BatMan Beyond F-Zero GP Legend (Japanese Version) And The Original Yu-Gi-Oh! If You Want To Watch An Oldskool Martial Arts Anime With Heads And Body Parts Exploding Due To Hitting People Weak Points, This Is A Must Watch! Kenshiro FTW!!!
i remeber the first time i saw this, i was in shock. like O__Owhat? he can make their bodys explode?!? fists of the north star hokuto no ken. kenshiro. i still remeber all the names of his moves. this intro alone was completely insane. all the music in the english dub was astounding. the acting and the sounds were perfect and the ending theme. just made you want more.
@Maryukujin dude, you are aware that they put out the entire show on DVD in the US now. in fact I was quite impressed with the release, as they were done without an English dub. just the original Japanese dialog with English subtitles. now that may have been to save money on production costs, but I still wish more anime was released and sold that way.
Man this was my shit as a kid, nobody in my hood was up on this, i use to say this in fights and use his catch phrases, it also helped i was a brown belt in karate so saying 50 fist strike and ive touched the sacred point of whatever as 12yr old was pretty intimidating to kids who never watched magna entertainment😂
It's too the English version didn't continue. I would have at least liked to have seen Ken fight Souther. Steve Blum's voice would have been perfect for him.
Yeh DBZ, Ghost in the Shell and Akira r my all time fav Manga/Anime, next to this. But I do like Elfen Lied for todays Anime and even thats a few yrs ld now.
I remember this intro. It's not bad, but not quite as epic as the original Japanese version intro with the song "Ai Wo Torimodose". The background music from the English dub is basically generic techno music.
Lets see. A-Better song(One of my all-time favorite anime opening songs) B-Better visuals as they relate to the song(tough to put into words, but the song and images together create a experience, or mood of sorts for watching the show. This opening feels more like a clipshow than a true TV show opening.) This opening reminds me of robotech, just not as awful. At least the song is better than robotech, but the opening as a whole still has the same issues.
I know, just It's hard to find many of the episodes after 22. I had the DVDs for a while of 1-28, but I'd always watch 23+ In Japanese, mainly because I prefer Rei's voice in Japanese.
The Best Opening ever and More fitting to the Brute sheer and Manimie violent equivalent to its series not that weak azz watered down yo wa shock nonsense funny how the English version is more brilliant than the Japanese version when its normally the other way around

have you tried showing them the 5 part movie reboot of the series? perhaps they will see it cause the animation is top notch for today, but i still prefer the old one.
You are a weeaboo though. I'm not going to say this is better, but both are awesome. They are just completely different. One gets you hyped for the post-apocalyptic epic of kung-fu Jesus, the other just gets you pumped af for some straight ass kicking and exploding heads.

The manliest show ever made.
The Japanese intro is iconic, but this intro is badass showing how dark and violent Fist of the North Star is along with Ken’s violent and sadistic nature and people blowing up.
Sadistic? I never thought he had a liking for hurting people, always looked at it as him delivering justice with brute force.
I'm Japanese, but this OP is brilliant.
The Japanese OP is painful to watch because the theme is love.
this theme is actually very martial artsy and could be BEAST in a fight in the show ,

Oh shit, Lex LAng as the voice of Sanosuke?! I..am recalling the similarities now. Holy shit.
Mike Egan did the music for this and V. It’s a shame he died in 2018. He was so underrated. I love his work!
Me and my wife where still in our 20s and this came on one of the showtime channels back in the day this bubblegum crisis, black magic 88,and a whole bunch more miss those days or was it Starz it could have been
Best Fist of North Star theme.
Actually, some of the music for the English version was better, especially the ending music during the credits.
im not really a huge anime fan but this show definitely got to me. its the perfect blend of good story with fun cheesiness.
If only the entire series was dubbed.
Toonami Adult Swim must feature an uncut dub

this song shits all over street fighter's ost. fuck that series
No it doesn't. None of sf alpha 3 is even remotely like this.
This soundtrack is way better than the alpha ost and I own the alpha ost
