Great video, tip in the end with a knot helped a lot! Combination of structures as well as colours in your outfit is top notch sir and that jacket ... amazing piece never saw anything like it.

If you want to improve the appearance of that criss cross laceing then just start the first step from underneath so that the straight across part moves into the background. You will like it.

The double knot you do makes one lace shorter then the other. Unless you have the double looping end longer to begin with.

😁 Actually the British call it a „Bluecher“ after Generalfeldmarschal Blücher who supposedly invented that style for his troops.

Is it wrong to crisscross from the bottom (rather than the top as shown)?

    • @johntaylor1219
      @johntaylor1219 4 года назад +2

No! In my opinion that's the only correct way. Doing it like he showed it makes it so much harder to loosen and tighten the laces to get your shoes on and off, and to me it's weird to have the laces at the top coming out from underneath. It doesn't tighten correctly when you pull up toward yourself.

Sloppy twisting of the yellow flat laces make it look a bit funky, so does not lacing the shoes symmetrically (mirror image) rather than both left-handed.

Peter BM Derbies are great even if you have Oxford Brogues.

    • @EZBISME

I understand this issue, but I think it's because most derby shoes look cheap compared with oxfords. However, I found a good place for a derby in what I think are the first 5 shoes a technology executive (tech-exec) should have (and maybe that works for your discipline, too):
Technology companies are naturally a bit more casual than other companies. Technology executives don't wear suits daily. Starting out, it's sufficient to have two suits: navy and medium grey. That gives a bunch of options for matching the jackets and trousers with other outfits, too! The third suit should be a charcoal suit for more formal occasions. Thus, while black is a color that works well for the technology executive in shoes, browns are much more versatile. Here are the first five shoes to buy:
      (1) Dark brown cap-toe oxford. The oxford is formal. In dark brown, it is actually very formal. However, because it is a brown, it can also be dressed down very easily. This shoe looks good with all the combinations of the navy and grey suits, as well as with chinos. It's somewhat conservative with a suit, but not stuffy.
      (2) Oxblood quarter-brogue oxford. Again, the oxford is forma, and the dark oxblood color works for formal occasions. It gives a striking contrast with both navy and grey. It works with suits, odd trousers/jackets, and chinos.
      (3) Black wingtip/full-brogue oxfords. The black color here will make this shoe somewhat formal, but wingtips really make this work casually, too. If the shoe is of good quality, it works with the charcoal suit, as well as with the grey or navy suits. The brogues keep it from being too stuffy. You can wear it with chinos, too!
      (4) Walnut/tan wingtip/full-brogue derby. These are the go-to shoes for daily wear! They work with jeans. They work with khakis. They work with chinos. They do NOT work well, however, with any of the suits listed. The light color is simply too contrasting and casual--whether an oxford or a derby. I prefer the derby here because this is meant to be your real casual shoe. The oxford can look a bit too "smart" with jeans--like you are trying too hard. Derby shoes in walnut/tan are just perfect. It's the perfect casual, but still a dress, shoe. If you like, you can also substitute in a similarly colored or bit darker derby wingtip boot!
      (5) Medium brown double monk strap. These are about as casual as the walnut wingtip derbies, but the vastly different style gives some nice variety.
The sixth shoe should be a black plain or cap toe oxford with a black suit/tuxedo for those award ceremonies.

Should have gone faster with the first one which I think most people know how to do and gone slower on the second one. The oxford lacing video which showed how to do the second one was too fast too.

In the US navy, we are taught that bridging is bad... Drill boots, dress shoes, athletic shoes, doesn't matter. No bridging allowed ever. I don't believe I'll ever get to the point where bridging will look good on a criss-cross.
