Thanks for showing this, I struggled tying laces until I was about 10 and was embarrassed, one time I ran up my road crying because my family were getting frustrated with me when I couldn’t tie my laces in the 70’s, luckily this man stopped me and asked what the problem was, he was left handed and within minutes I could tie a simple lace. I was forced by teachers to write with my right hand but I’m left handed in all other ways, I was later diagnosed with dyspraxia which still causes problems with tying bows and fancy double laces, but seeing your tutorial today has helped me tremendously today, I’m so glad you did this video Dan x
Lovely little tutorial, wish I'd known about the Parisian knot especially because I got so frustrated with my laces loosening, I gave up on laced shoes and now wear slip ons exclusively. Nice job, Dan.
I didn’t realize that I had anger management issues until I was watching different u tube videos yest on tying laces. I was screaming some prime language. Glad I found ur u tube video. I love the Parisian knot. Thank you
I love the Berlutti knot (it's a beauty knot! 😊) and will use it from here on. I find that you can even out all lace ends and loops perfectly without compromising the tension you want for personel comfort but still attain an easy classically styled look. It takes a little longer to tie, granted but it is worth it because you never have to re-tie your laces once again during the day until you wish to remove your shoes. I wish I had learnt this knot decades ago! Thank you, Dan. It lies flat too. It is a perfect knot to tie for shoes . . . I can't think of anything else to say other than I won't be using any other way to tie my shoes again. 😊
Recently I forgot how to tie my laces? Don't know how, may be my last shoes had very short laces that's hard to loop properly... And I had to re-learn it now! Thank you for showing the Parisian and Berlutti Styles, they are quite elegant and sturdy. And for all those who are ashamed of having diffculty in tying a knot. It's not easy to "imagine" how a knot is tied... Knots are a complex matter :-)
I learned the Parisian knot on another RUclips video, and so far, I find it bullet proof. It never comes loose. It is telling that when I get home, the laces still feel tight on my feet. Especially good for those round laces. Maybe part of it is making two loops as the first step rather than one loop as shown here.
Just forwarded this to a wedding group, I have been asked to ensure groom's tie is correct on Friday. But never knew about laces, great detail to add, IF it gets past bride approval stages. 🙂
@@zackz1260LOL More about me geeking out on this type of content from Dan and youtube. I have a good book on "how to tie a tie" showing all the ways for neck ties, it's also a quantum physics book to help explain string theory. 🙂
I could never tie my shoe by having the bunny go out the hole, around the tree and back down... but the Fresh Prince taught me a much easier way. Tie a knot, make two bunny ears, then tie them in a knot, easy-peasy with no trees getting in the way!
That's a great explanation of the technique I'm using in practice. Never learned the "proper" bunny goes around the tree. And to keep the knot from untying itself automatically it's important to get the bottom crossing the right way. If you do the initial crossing the wrong way, the loops in the final product try to turn to back-to-front orientation instead of going to side-to-side and untie the knot when you walk.
I've been using the Parisian knot style for years and my laces rarely ever come undone. I definitely recommend this knot for its effectiveness and its super easy to learn.
I use Knot Number One. I have never tried the options and I must admit, it can come undone, especially with sperical shoelaces. Please do more videos like this, if it works for you! Thank you for the video!
There’s a way to do the first knot where it will not come undone. Instead of doing a loop clockwise as shown, do it counter-clockwise. And that will not slip. Give it a try.
Awesome tutorial. I've to try the latter two. Interesting, the bow tie is the same knot as the 'regular' shoe knot. Really takes practice since your neck becomes the top of the shoe.
4:58 starting double knot is actually great help in order to keep everything tight, while working with consequent loops...i am goint to throw it into parisian knot too.
Much appreciated! I couldn’t figure out the Berluti even after watching Kirby Allison but I got them on the first try with your video! Awesome and thank you!!!
Thanks for the tutorial, Dan; it never occurred to me that there were multiple ways to tie shoe laces or that people even _noticed._ I'll stick with the normal way for now, but once I send my Florshiem's in for you to fancy up next spring, I might just try my hand at learning the Berluti knot. It's wonderful to hear that you're taking work from overseas (I'm from Iowa, in the US), you pioneered the style I'm after and I'm not so confident another cobbler would do it justice.
Amazing. Very cool video. I had my first pair of bespoke Berluti shoes made for my wedding some years ago (the shoes are still immaculate and beautiful) and the Italian (I think) fitter could do the Berluti knot in seconds. I had never heard of it or seen it before and it still takes me ages. Never seen the Parisian knot so I will try that as well. Great tutorial.
I keep coming back to this tutorial! I've started using the Berluti knot on my boots since I can loosen them off the speed hooks, and it's amazing how it stays.
Who knew!? Love the tutorial Dan. I am wondering if you could do one showing us how Ron puts on his flippers and keeps them snug. Just a suggestion. Thanks again, J
I love this. I like dressing up and find that the way to looking smart is in the details. This definitely helps achieve ja subtle but classier look. Thank you so much from Canada!
"...hit the notifications bell so you're kept in the loop.." ahhh, I see what u did there! 😏😏😏 great video! I didn't even know the Parisian or Berluti knot even existed! So curious what other knowledge bombs u have to drop!
Dan, I start my Berluti with a single knot, it still never unties and looks a little neater. It's a silly thing but when I changed to Berluti a couple of years ago; it has changed my life!!! One less slight annoyance in the day; not having to re-tie your shoes.
I just learned them both, and thank you for the tutorial! By the way, that's a cool looking haircut. How would I describe to the barber when asking for this haircut??
Good simple presentation from a person who, unlike many on RUclips etc, is not so far up their own Harris! See wot I dun!! Clue Florence Shoes..........
I mostly wear work books with lace hooks and combat boots with cheater zips, but I'm saving this video for that rare occasion when I need to re-tie the laces
Hi Dan, i'm looking for a 100% waterproof contact adhesive for ladies classic shoe soles, i've had decent successes with the timebond and other store tube ones but wondering which brand or item you would suggest i do alot of wetlook and rain / mud photoshoots where the shoes are completely soaked for a long period so a bit more than your normal rainy day use also i'm having a disagreement with gorilla glue about there gorilla glue contact adhesive, it doesn't act like a contact adhesive at all, i was wondering if its something you had come across before, their other products have been 100% excellent, i'm London UK based
Great video. How you filmed the video with the shoe forward made it easy to learn both knots. I can see why you have so many subscribers. I will now be a regular visitor...
Wonderful video, but about the anger management problem with the Berluti. After learning this knot a few years back, I have become much calmer as my shoes did not untie all the time. So it definitely is a 50/50
Good demonstration! By the way, the first part of the Berluti, I've seen referred to as the "surgeon's knot" - just FYI! Nice video, thanks for sharing!
I can barely use my thumbs these days and very much lack grip. The left thumb is mostly decorative now. I have learned to tie a basic knot without using it, but it's very difficult. I prefer the fit of shoes with laces. Do you know any knots that might be easier for me?
What is the plastic tip of the shoelace called? I read it once, and thought it would be an excellent word for playing scrabble: short (4 or 5 letters I think), but nice, 'expensive' letters. Like zarf; another great one.
I have a pair of thursday captains that i had to retie i bet 10 times a day. Got so irritating, i starting looking online for alternate ways to tie boots that would not come loose. Your video came up and im am now able to wear the captains all day without issue thanks to a Parisian knot.
Bloody Hell! At 68 years old, I finally learned how to tie my shoes!
I'm a year behind you... and you're spot on! 😂
Said the same thing! 68 as well.
I'm 33 and can say the same 😂
At 39
Thank you! Finally a tutorial that doesn't do it in 5x speed and doesn't skip important stuff that "everybody already knows"

Great tips. Indeed the Beluti knot really needs & tests one's patience & skill. I prefer the Parisian knot more. Thanks.
The double loop Parisian is what a soccer coach showed me when I was a kid, the Berluti looks awesome to try, Thanks for this quick one Dan!
The things I didn’t know about shoe laces 🙃 glad you’re back and recharged.
Thanks mate!!

That Parisian one is really helpful. Got style and hardly ever un-do it by itself.
the berlutti knot i got first try and is actually the first tie i learned, i learned it from this video
So I needed a better way tie my shoes and thanks to this guy I have done that👍

Kind of amazed that first knot is the one I learned as a kid way back in the 70's in California!
Best tutorial on the knots I've yet seen. Clear easy to see and straight to the point.
I've been using the Parisian knot style for years and my laces rarely ever come undone. I definitely recommend this knot for its effectiveness and its super easy to learn.
this is surprisingly useful - thank you! I'm going to try some of these knots to sort out the laces in my docs that are forever coming undone
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, very interesting. I'm really looking forward to your tutorial on shoe lacing. Hopefully it'll be issued soon.

Wanted to thank you , you made it very easy for me to learn and now I'm a dapper devil, cheers brother.

I used the Parisian on my sneakers yesterday and it turned out really cool.
It was so easy under your guidance i learnt all of them in 10 minutes
I learned a lot about men's shoes from this channel. I should bring my shoes for this guy to repair.
I keep coming back to this tutorial! I've started using the Berluti knot on my boots since I can loosen them off the speed hooks, and it's amazing how it stays.
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much, my shoelaces look so neat with the Berlin knot 👍
Thanks for the tutorial Dan! I showed my hubby two new ways to tie his shoes.
Brilliant!
Am I the only one that figured there was pretty much only one way to tie a shoe? Great vid! Will definitely have to practice these
never really thought about lacing until i watched this vid, good stuff,
the little bloopers at the end made me laugh , good way to start the day
Who knew!? Love the tutorial Dan. I am wondering if you could do one showing us how Ron puts on his flippers and keeps them snug. Just a suggestion. Thanks again, J
4:40 that is the coolest knot technique I have ever seen!!! Definitely a must for dress shoes as the silky laces tend to untie themselves...
This is the video I never knew I needed. I always use the standard knot and it ALWAYS comes undone.
I use the ‘basic/ regular knot’ then double knot it. Never comes undone.
Interesting Parisian & Berluti knots. Didn’t even know they existed.
Look man you make videos that I never thought I actually wanted to watch but you as a person can make a shoelace interesting keep doing you!
Took me awhile to find this video! The laces I've done before haven't required re doing so I need to visit this every time i get a new pair
Hi Dan.Never seen the Berluti knot before, will have to try it now👍
Good luck!
@@Dan_the_cobbler I think I will need it🤣🤣
I have the same pair of shoes, but I use waxed turquoise shoelaces that I learned about from the Gentleman Gazette channel..
Thanks for sharing.
The Parisian Knot is my new favorite.

Got it first time with your tutorial. Thanks 👍
I have adopted the Berlutin knot specialy when I'm riding my motorbike. It's very secure !
Hello Dan. I am so glad that you came back so fast to filming after holiday. It looks like you had long time to think about the channel 👍🏻💪🏻
As always I hit like as soon as I see you pop up.
I love YOU!!!
Détail toujours négligé mais qui fait toute la différence tant en élégance qu'en praticité. Merci pour ce sympathique rappel. 🇨🇵👍
Excellent techniques. Your explanation and video makes it easy to practice. Thank you.
Just in time for my wedding! Thank you!
learned a new knot at 29. Nice. Thanks man!
Thanks dude!! Now I have something useful and fun to practice.

You're adorable with those bunny ears 😻
Another one Dan! Never knew of alternate knots. Nice!!’
I love it. Very clear instructions. Thanks
like your dog. you are a good guy. thanks andrew

Thank you Sir Dan, great video.
Can you make a quick instructional video on how to clean and shine your shoes? Like a budget version and a full-service version?
I love the IAN knot.
Excellent… love this channel and I like the detail for trying shoes. Great content!
Hey I learned how to do the Berluti knot from Kirby too. I used it for my wedding.
This was a great tutorial Mr. Dan. 🤠😊
Thanks for the great content -always.
Bunny Ears..🐰. I love it !!!!!
LETSGO boys! Time to re-learn how to tie shoes
Yup. Definitely needed this video.
Nice tutorial, Would the Berluti still work without the initial double twist?
I’ve never had a basic knot come undone, so long as it’s created reef knot style
Been doing the Berluti knot for a bunch of years now. I’ve only done one crossing of the laces first. I’ll do twice tomorrow and see the results.
How did the double twist pan out?
Berluti is awesome cuz very tight, thank you man
Very good Dan...

i do alot of wetlook and rain / mud photoshoots where the shoes are completely soaked for a long period so a bit more than your normal rainy day use
also i'm having a disagreement with gorilla glue about there gorilla glue contact adhesive, it doesn't act like a contact adhesive at all, i was wondering if its something you had come across before, their other products have been 100% excellent,

Having my laces come undone is annoying. This is just what I needed.
Great video. How you filmed the video with the shoe forward made it easy to learn both knots. I can see why you have so many subscribers. I will now be a regular visitor...
Can you do a similar video on best way of lacing and tying hiking boots Dan
Very nice and really cool. Thank you for sharing with us!!!
Nice short tutorial Dan . BTW I noticed those 🔥cowboy boots again at the beginning of this video. Any chance they will be featured in a future video ?
Wonderful video, but about the anger management problem with the Berluti. After learning this knot a few years back, I have become much calmer as my shoes did not untie all the time. So it definitely is a 50/50
You made me spit out my drink.
I could’ve sworn you said you would show us the regular knot, the Parisian knot, and your BALLOON KNOT. 😵💫

As a fan and user of cowboy boots I can't help but wonder if those boots in the background mean more cowboy boots videos coming up! :)
I think I need to use the Berluti Knot on every dress show I put out now!!
Love your videos. Greetings from Vienna!
Is there a Cobbler in NYC that does this work? I can't find one open on a Weeekend.
Thank you!
