i don't know how david gilmour does it so that this solo is SO perfect all the instruments and that it reaches you emotionally to the point of blurring your eyes, only Pink Floyd can achieve that
For me this is the best song ever written. Lyrics, music, players... Guy Pratt is simply amazing. One of the best bassists out there, if not the best. Forget Flea and Les, they just beat the strings; Guy pets them. This song rises up to the sky because of the bassline... and Guy. The chorus is... just breathtaking. Machan, Rachel, Durga... Just seeing them supporting the band performance worth the show as a whole. What a class! Nick gives a masterclass about how to make easy the most difficult drumbeats. He's not even sweating! No need to say further about the rest of the buddies on the stage. I could spend the whole day hearing this song over and over again and turning up the volume after each round.
Different genres, different approaches. All of them are great artists, perhaps because Pink Floyd is Prog it doesn`t mean that Red Hot or Primus do not have their value artistically speaking. But, I must say that Pink Floyd has a more `mature` sound because the lenght and arrangement of the songs. You can hear more details and layers in their sound. Plus their songs are made to listen and pay attention, on the contrary side you have Red Hot and Primus that are primarily bands made to get lost during their gigs.
not just me then ! guy fuses notes together like no transition its fluid each note slides into the next effortlessly , skilled beyond belief not many i can think of even near his level on bass! and yes this song is just sublime in everyway ... morbid as it is my funeral song for sure this version DSOT ! my absolute favourite tune by far

And THAT'S how I remember it from Wembley in '88, that solo going on for days..I still didn't want it to end......has me in tears even now...33 years later...thank you dear boy for giving us this!

I was born 1966 - songs like that are anmong the reasons why the 80s were the best years of my life. I am lifelong and overly grateful I could experience them!
My favorite Floyd era, David, Richard and Nick plus Guy Pratt Rachel and a host of others. The mix bringing out the ladies is superb instead of relinquishing them to background noise, they are as instrumental as Ricks fabulous beds both giving David the atmosphere to do what he does better than anyone else. This is one of those Gilmore solos that I wish would not end. I just want to loop it over and over again.
No denying this was wonderfully done!! ❤❤❤ My only quibble would be the vocal echo during the 1st verse,... I found it distracting... but, then comes the rest and my inner voice saying "oh shut up and enjoy it!!"

As I wrote in the description, back in the time when i did this one, the delay in the first part was a particular decision but after testing a lot of sound variables (included a non-delay version), i felt that this was the best (and still do). This is my favorite Pink Floyd song. When my life turns to scurry, I listen to this song so I do not turn away. This guitar solo by David Gilmoure is hypnotic.
I was at this exact concert as a 16 year old. I've been to several other Floyd concerts over the years as well as a host of pop and rock and country music concerts. Nothing, in my mind, has even come close to The Pink Floyd 1988 DSOT tour. The right people, the right stage talent, the right production crew, the right tour manager, the right stage manager, the right technology, the right lighting, the right audio to visual coordination. Hands down nothing in musical history will ever come close again to Pink Floyd in this moment in time. I was fortunate and blessed to see this with my own eyes and hear it with my own ears. We shall never see the likes of them again.
I totally agree with everything you said. Everyone says that P.U.L.S.E. is the greatest Floyd show, but I think this it better. Don't get me wrong, I think P.U.L.S.E is amazing. I saw the P.U.L.S.E show live 3 times in 94, when I was 19, but I never got to see the DSOT shows. I wish I could have, but I was a little to young at the time. I discovered Pink Floyd right after these tours ended. Still the best concert I've ever seen. I saw Roger Waters Wall Tour twice and that was pretty awesome too, it was missing Gilmour though.But that's another story. GIlmours guitar tone is better on this than P.U.L.S.E., the lighting is just right, not to little and not to much, and he seemed to be more into his solos as well. The Turning Away , Sorrow, and Comfortably Numb solos were so much better on this tour. I think a big reason for that is they were Coke fuled during this time., and not during the Division Bell tour. Something changed between those tours because Gilmour was on fire on this tour. Theres phrases in the solos I haven't heard since. He was still awesome during the Division Bell shows, but something was different. I wore this VHS tape, and the double CD out when I was in High School. It's great to see and hear it in such high quality now. It's like hearing it for the first time again.
I have often thought this would also be a wonderful anthem citing the tragedy of homeless animals - dogs in particular - on the streets of the world. 😭
Your edit really brings out the more cinema aspects of the original pro-shoot that were lost on the grainy old VHS versions of this I’ve seen. And you can really tell they used all five nights at Nasseau to make sure all angles got their moment!

Hi, really enjoying these. Just to note that the backing vocal arrangements, David's solo and Guy Pratt's bass parts were improvised to a large degree, and the original versions use a different night (the 21st and the 23rd if I remember correctly, depending on the DVD or CD version on the original, and probably one of those two nights for the remix too). They were not rerecorded in a studio. What you've done to the audio sounds great though, can you do the full show of the 20th like this and the same with the half soundboard of the 21st? Would be a massive upgrade to listen to!
Hello there and welcome! Well, based on what I knew, they do re-recorded a lot in studio for the 2019 re-issue, including most of drums, keyboards and some guitar parts as well. And they used most of the nights for the remixes as you just mentioned, but anyway most of the details become noticeable when you disassemble the tracks piece by piece (and also videos), and start trying to match up things. I'll be reworking more of this venue, all depends on times, this kind of edition requires a lot of editing work and infinite tests, without go any further for this On the Turning Away Unreleased after the base work of audio/video I tested about 60 different EQs until make my final decision... For good each work gets a little better results, but It's a crazy work, fortunately i'm a little crazy lol. Cheers!
I never seen the VHS version or laser disc back in 88 but now seeing in the new technology of the 20 omg it's so beautiful and now its clean up on dvd blueray and this new 360 sound it's for the new pink floyd fans

I think the perfect Floyd song would be, some cool lights in the beginning, about 45 seconds of some kind of meaningful words, and then 3 hours of Gilmour just dropping the hammer all over that guitar.

Same with me but I had to take three planes and travel abroad as he doesn't visit Spain since The division bell tour in 94. Had seen Roger three times as well but Gilmour....absolutely brilliant. He's preparing an album for the next year or two I read somewhere.
He said in a Documentary that His Family comes first. He has smaller kids so wants to spend time with them. He n his daughter sing together. Beautiful songs.
This is absolutely ****ing epic. Dave's solo plus the backing singers improvised parts takes this song into another universe. The crowd roar at the end says it all.

Saw the DSoT tour and I couldn't believe how amazing it was (and I've been to Lots of concerts) they came back to a near by city a few months later and I went again and yes, it was amazing... Pink Floyd = Best Ever.
Magnificent. I love this track and the extended instrumental part is part of the pleasure of seeing them live... I saw them at least twice playing this tune, i guess.
These do a beautiful job of putting the viewer inside the concert experience, and they seem to do it effortlessly--which I can only assume is due to a truly sickening amount of work. What an absolute joy to watch!

Saw this show performed at Foxboro, MA about a month before this performance. It was quite the adventure. The sound system was among the most impressive I’ve heard. Still I’m more an Ummagumma/Pompeii fan.

Is there anyone who understand the meaning of the lyrics?.......I only read in the comments about playing the instruments, the sound, the members of the band how good they are, the lightning etc. I do'nt read that there are people would follow the meaning of the lyrics: to help people in need (specially these days with so many refugies caused by wars, hunger, uppression etc) It is basicly a protestsong: We must not turn our heads, but help the people in need....Like David G. does, and maybe also the other bandmembers (I don't know about), for charity. this is the 2019 version or a new 1988 version? cuz there is the original DSOT version, then a 2nd version with a different solo.. then THIS.. and then the 2019 version remixed.. but I am in LOVE with the 2nd version and THIS..

I thing you forgot about The Dogs Of War, which is really a strong song that gets even stronger in this times. I think Polly gives Dave a more poetical nuance. Cheers!
@@TheForce_Productions hiya mate, haven't spoken to you for a while how's things all good I hope 🙏..I'm not that keen on Dogs of War I don't think you get to hear much of Gilmour's guitar playing.. 🤷♂️🤔 and as with Polly's lyrics they're not real Floyd lyrics that I've come to love, I do like quite a bit of The Division Bell as that was the concert I told you I went to at Eearls Court in 94, as far MLOR I think the studio album isn't that good but when you listen to them playing it live it sounds miles better (ie) On The Turning Away, Sorrow and One Slip the rest I think are very average and don't have the Floyd dynamics I've grown to love..!! Also since I've seen Floyd and Roger live I can only listen to the live music/album's now as they sound so much better than the studio version's, obviously it's just my opinion but I know a lot of people who feel the same way as I do after watching them live 🤘🤩 also I think Floyd's lyrics have always had a message obviously down to Roger and with Polly writing the lyrics it's not the real Pink Floyd ethic that they stood for, it was never about poetry and love songs

Yep, 8/8/88 Manchester, first of 4 times I'd see them live. That and the solo from Comfortably Numb seemed to go on for hours. Absolutely amazing.

Also saw them on the #2 1988 tour in Kansas City, I agree we are unlikely to ever see anything like that again. It was magnificent.

I think the perfect Floyd song would be, some cool lights in the beginning, about 45 seconds of some kind of meaningful words, and then 3 hours of Gilmour just dropping the hammer all over that guitar.

I saw Gilmour 3 times from 2015-2016 because sadly I know he may never tour again! Worth every Penny! I still hold out hope because he still has it
Same with me but I had to take three planes and travel abroad as he doesn't visit Spain since The division bell tour in 94. Had seen Roger three times as well but Gilmour....absolutely brilliant. He's preparing an album for the next year or two I read somewhere.
He said in a Documentary that His Family comes first. He has smaller kids so wants to spend time with them. He n his daughter sing together. Beautiful songs.

Saw this show performed at Foxboro, MA about a month before this performance. It was quite the adventure. The sound system was among the most impressive I’ve heard. Still I’m more an Ummagumma/Pompeii fan.

this is the 2019 version or a new 1988 version? cuz there is the original DSOT version, then a 2nd version with a different solo.. then THIS.. and then the 2019 version remixed.. but I am in LOVE with the 2nd version and THIS..

Best song since Roger left followed by Sorrow, and Polly writes the lyrics now 👎 only saving grace is Gilmour's guitar playing since Roger left and stopped writing Floyd 's songs
I thing you forgot about The Dogs Of War, which is really a strong song that gets even stronger in this times. I think Polly gives Dave a more poetical nuance. Cheers!
@@TheForce_Productions hiya mate, haven't spoken to you for a while how's things all good I hope 🙏..I'm not that keen on Dogs of War I don't think you get to hear much of Gilmour's guitar playing.. 🤷♂️🤔 and as with Polly's lyrics they're not real Floyd lyrics that I've come to love, I do like quite a bit of The Division Bell as that was the concert I told you I went to at Eearls Court in 94, as far MLOR I think the studio album isn't that good but when you listen to them playing it live it sounds miles better (ie) On The Turning Away, Sorrow and One Slip the rest I think are very average and don't have the Floyd dynamics I've grown to love..!! Also since I've seen Floyd and Roger live I can only listen to the live music/album's now as they sound so much better than the studio version's, obviously it's just my opinion but I know a lot of people who feel the same way as I do after watching them live 🤘🤩 also I think Floyd's lyrics have always had a message obviously down to Roger and with Polly writing the lyrics it's not the real Pink Floyd ethic that they stood for, it was never about poetry and love songs
The album & tour that really got me into the Floyd. DSOT is a great live album, this song and the visuals/lasers are brilliant.
