After some time working out some technical issues with my gear, here's finally another chapter for
the series "Nassau Extended Unreleased". This is another REAL register from those legendary
Nassau nights where the movie Delicate Sound Of Thunder took place as we all know.
As mentioned this is the REAL live performance of the suite that opening the A Momentary Lapse Of
Reason album, Signs Of Life & Learning To Fly, from the August 20th, 1988 which I've took from
my soundboard record from that night; THIS IS NOT THE 2019 RE-EDITION NOR ANY OTHER
OFFICIAL RELEASED VERSION OF THESE SONGS.
The process I've followed here was similar to my other REMASTERED footages I have published
over here for the previous three songs of this series (One Slip, Sorrow & On The Turning Away),
but this time and after have won some experience on it, I think this one has achieved really good
accuracy in most of the aspects I'm usually looking: VIDEO ADAPTATION, SONG ADAPTATION,
SOUND QUALITY and finally SOUND AMBIENCE & GENERAL CONTEXT ELEMENTS.
Some of the editing process here:
▪ Separate multichannel treatment, using different balances, sounds and effects for each separate
channel to achieve a better and spacial sound (near to 3D sound).
▪ Video totally rebuilded, filling the missing parts and edited, modified and/or replaced several
cuts to fit it perfectly with the soundtrack and improving tension in certain moments.
▪ The second by second levels of the whole track were manually stabilized and carefully adjusted
to fix original sound inconsistences along the record and raised/lowered certain instrumental
details, sounds and vocals.
▪ Much of the keyboards and sampler sounds in Signs Of Life were rebuilded and reinserted to the track
to increase the ambient in several parts (originally almost lost in the background).
▪ Learning To Fly's Gary Wallis drums and specially percussion (intro and ending part) were isolated
and edited separately to improve sharpness and strength on each beat.
▪ Added a new plane sounds effects and a multi tap delay to David Gilmour's voice in Learning To Fly bridge,
and ambient crowd reactions as well.
▪ Line-in video spots along the songs were also improved, replacing the originals for uncompressed
versions, giving them a more vivid color and image quality regarding the official parts.
▪ Added general crowd ambience and reactions although the whole soundtrack and in several key moments
along the songs.
▪ Re-equalized to improve the general dynamic volume and to increase the general sound range into
a more enjoyable piece with a sound less soundboard and closer to a commercial scent.

Excelente trabajo, me gusta mucho mas que la versión oficial. Este video se ve y escucha muy diferente, parase un concierto muy diferente. Yo no entiendo porque a las versiones oficiales les hacen tanos cortes y ediciones en video y audio en vez de dejarlos completamente tal y como se gravo. Por eso tus videos son los mejores. Agradecemos tu esfuerzo y el gran trabajo que haces.

@simondodd918 Sometimes mixes are partially conditioned by the original footage, but the intend is to always let everyone in the band to shine. Anyway, this particular video belongs to the time prior to starting with the 5.1 multichannel remixes in the channel, and I used to have a PC very limited then, so chances are that I'd make a revisited version of this one. If you mean to Signs Of Life, each song has natural different gains, is part of the musical ambient, is like a whisper followed by a shout; no way to match both into the same level. Anyway I adjusted them were they should be and made several youtube audio tests before to publish the video; that's why I always recommend to use WIDE RANGE speakers to really enjoy these remastered footages, onboard smartvs can't manage basses and mids, even much of the soundbars available hardly can give you a real perception of the audio, please keep that in mind. Nevertheless this one belogs to the time prior to December 2022 where I started with 5.1 remixes in the channel, something that really makes a difference in sound in general and improves the "corrections". I'm confused. This video is from "The Division Bell" circa 1994, 95 or 96 but "Leaning to Fly" is from "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" in the late 80's. What's up with this?
Check the description below, that's why I put all that information there. You have a big confusion, this is 1988, there were no tours during 1995 or 1996.

On the 2019 remix Jon Carin's vocals were elevated in the mix on backing vocals. The original Buford Jones mix he was all but muted but David and Andy Jackson's remix elevated his vocals to sound clear as day. Mixing in the 1980s you were only allowed so much that some parts were muted while others were lifted. Money was even edited back in 1988 as Tim Renwick's solo was excised after the bass, half of Rick and Jon's solos were removed.

Estas versiones especiales (como el ejemplo de este video) las voy agregando en la medida que las voy produciendo, como verás en la playlist, ya van 4 lanzados, aunque tengo otros aún en proceso. Es un trabajo enorme porque no son solo las pistas de sonido que están re-elaboradas, sino que los videos también están adaptados (toma x toma), de otra forma no habría coherencia audiovisual. About the keyboard comment, you have to keep in mind that most of the poeple is much more familiar with the official releases sound (AMLOR / DSOT) and not much with this real/live/dry sound from the band, which much times make them to have a different judgement, but is ok. I've got several SBD recs (from Nassau shows) but none of them has ever convinced me completely... even when edited; what is the SBD rec you referred to... if I can ask, where did you get it ? ps: will you give us the same SBD sourced "The Great Gig... " as well ? Curious if a rec with all the three vocalists recorded in full exist actually. In all the SBD recs I have, Rachel Fury aka 'miss full red lips' part is missing (you can just hear (very very low) her performance coming from the arena).
Hi there Mark and happy new year! Great to know you read my descriptions, since almost nobody use to, sometimes I even wonder if it worths to take such time on writing all that lol. Well, about the SBD recs, the ones I have didn't convinced me either, so probably we have the same copy, but keep in mind that each of these "Nassau Extended Unreleased" I did, has days and days of working around. I not only edit them, also test a lot of different ways to rise the sound and ways to equalize them, is a long process. For instance, I started this one in september... and kept making changes even until the beginning of last week. Also the SBD recs normally has a acceptable clean sound in general, but the thing is completely flat, that's my primary target, it's like a pretty girl but no make up. About TGGITS is sad but I think there's no in existence a source (SBD or audience) with enough quality to make it justice, that's why PF used the Versailles take to fill the song in their DSOT 1989, anyway if you get anything over there let me know, i'm still in creative process with your last help... 😉. The info about the dates it's an old conversation and matter of suppositions, but really is that there's a lot of mixed footages here in the 2019 re-edition specially, different fragments from different nights and even voices taken from other shows of the tour. Cheers!

No problem at all! I think you mean about the first song here, "Signs Of Life"z which btw I deeply love. Basically it's a cloud of mostly two keyboards and the David's guitar, plus a sequence of sampler sounds, like the rower although the background and some other sounds; I think it's a masterpiece and at the same time too underrated. If you meant to other specific instrument put me a timestamp to get to it. 🙂
