just throwing it out there again. I am so happy this channel exists
Me as well
Ditto!
It's brilliant. We're so lucky. Larry. Tim pierce, guthrie trapp. All amazing.
Best channel on RUclips
@@swetonic hands down. It's the realest stuff out there
Idk what it is, but every time I turn on your videos I feel better. It been a way fucked up few weeks, and a few more to come. I spend every waking hour at my dad's bedside just seeing him wither away. I'm scared as hell, I feel alone, I feel helpless and like a part of me is dying every day. I play for his as often as possible. I've never cried as much as I have these past weeks. These videos for some reason are keeping me from going insane I think. I honestly don't know what to do, my dad is all I have left. We watch together and he smiles and says "that son of a bitch can play his ass off". Yes he can Pop. I just want to see him smile. I'm definitely not ready for what's to come. But thank you Tom, for putting a smile on my dad's face. That means everything to me. 😢
Hang tough brother! These are trying times but keep the faith and hold the line. Tom’s videos have kept us all going!
@@fiddlefolk I'm sure trying. The first 2 weeks after finding out about his having cancer, things just started falling apart. So 4 month from learning of it to the point we're at now. I've set up things to maybe help aleviate the stress of bills on my stepmom. The first 2 weeks he had no coverage because he had to retire early. So for that I'm trying to figure out what to do, where to go. She nor my brother can afford to pay almost half million dollars in bills. So the one thing I've done was set up a go fund me and alot of friends from my time in the ARMY have got on board to help get things rolling. I can't tell him about the bills. He doesn't need that on him. All I care about is his happiness and quality of life for as long as I can make it the best I can. I've been through some crazy shit people couldn't fathom. Which has made me a better, stronger person. But right I'm just that little kids that wants his Daddy. From that point in November, my life has changed forever. I never sweat the small stuff. My dad is the big picture and my priority. Every night when he falls asleep, I kiss his forehead and tell him that I love him. And tell him how much I need him and I don't want him to leave. I'm in my mid '40s, but there will never be a time that I won't need my Dad. I fall apart every night. This hurts so much.
@@donnyhall2535 cancer took my dad when I was 17.I still think of him every day 35yrs later. Enjoy your time with your father ad keep doing what you're doing .....Peace and Love!
@@fiddlefolk you as fell. I'm trying to maintain. God knows I am.
Prayers are with you and your Dad. Keep the faith, Brother.
Tim Pierce on his live stream Friday said the most gifted session men at creating guitar parts quickly that fit the song perfectly are you and Steve Lukather . Tim said watching you two work is both inspiring and humbling. Says a lot about you and a lot about Tim Pierce!
I’m a teacher and I opened Friday’s virtual class with a “HELLO CLASS” ...didn’t even mean to, it just came out of me like second nature.
Next time say hello I'm Johnny Cash and see what happens lol
Haha. I’ve been doing the same in my classes.
Ha, Same. I eventually had to show my class a clip of Uncle Larry so that they "understood".
Same! That’s my go-to greeting every morning for my 4th grade class!
Did you break down the opening jam at the end?
The pizza stain on the Senn is now available from the Fender Custom shop and called the "Uncle Larry" style relic'ing effect.
A Homeskoolin lesson is THE best way to start the weekend. Cheers Tommy
In the wealth of musicianship i've learned from you, I gotta say this pick disappearing between fingers and coming back in action is great one, ultimate tones !
Yes! Made my weekend!
Luther Dickinson gave you a great heap of praise resently on a podcast
You two would make and INCREDIBLE duo
There is literally nobody else on RUclips who inspires me to grab my guitar faster than this guy. Yet another killer video intro, absolutely FEARLESS. Everything a great guitarist should be.
Go listen to Chris Buck man
@@ralphstanley84 Chris Buck is a KILLER player but I'll echo the previous comment, little Tommy is not only a straight badass on the six string, he's a naturally gifted teacher. Humble, clear, communicative and this is via RUclips, imagine having a beer with the guy!
@@ralphstanley84 so chris is better than me...is that what you’re saying ralphy boy?
@@501chorusecho nope didnt say that.
Answer was for a grab your guitar quicker than you.
Didn't say he was better.
But it's cool that you read my comment and hit me back thanx Uncle Larry.
He's way younger than you also I think
@@justinguitarcia na man I don't drink
But we can have several pots of coffee that would be cool
I love that groove! Thanks so much for sharing!
Thanks Tom! Love the videos and the playing!
Always happy to see a new lesson posted.
Good to see your in a rockin mood today Uncle Larry. Love this stuff!
You still manage to put out great lessons this far in. Thanks so much man.
Oh the tonal voicings you are able to coax out of your gear. It’s been an amazing year with you. Good times.
20 seconds in ... already liked and favorited. Keep it up Uncle Larry
Best thing on the internet, keep rocking Uncle Larry!
Well that's the best 13 minutes and 25 seconds I've spent on YT this week. Much appreciated, Tom! Have fun in Muscle Shoals!
(FWIW, there's a great documentary about Muscle Shoals, on amazon prime. An amazing history of music recording down there. Muscle Shoals is along the Tennessee River, and it's believed by many to be such a perfect place to record, because the Tennessee River sings - according to Native Americans from the area.)
It's on u yet also n a Tom Dowed bio also
Cool riffs, a new really cool guitar, cool guitarist. Triple cool. Thanks!
So glad I stumbled onto this channel. You sir are a deadset legend. I am learning so much from you. Damn....so much talent.
I was in your neck of the woods today. I kept an eye out for ole’ uncle Larry. Another great video thanks!
Magic as usual. On the side panel your episode 16 showed up 'Bon Temps Roulet' I remembered it so played it again. I have a feeling I will be smiling all day today. Thanks again Tom.
Uncle Larry glad you made it back son awesome lesson
Great sounding melody and tone. Sets an interesting mood right away, so cool. Thanks for posting. I love the sound of the second lick too. I have suits, I don’t know about the cool part. Hahaha. that beautiful thing definitely deserves the coolest suit ever
TB, your playing is so special and unique. It carries me to wonderful places.
You've got "the sound", and you've got it in so many different ways. Thank you for the inspiration!
Ah, thanks Uncle Larry, I needed my hit of Homeskoolin'. Much love from across the pond!
Just saw your Rig Rundown with John from last year.Loved your playing so much I had to look further. Subscribed!
Thank you so much for these videos, Tom! I’ve learned so much and have/will refer back to these lessons as my playing progresses. Btw, in addition to the amazing prog rock duo, those old videos of you, sarah, David, and Kristin covering The Beach Boys and BeeGees are hidden RUclips gems and deserve way more attention!
What the hell just happened.....that jam took me cruising down some back roads in a convertible Lincoln. Incredible....thank you Sir.
Yeah! A lot of good info! Thank you Tom!!!!
Lickity split! Thank you Uncle Larry for bringing the garage jams and common sense. Dig it.☮🎸💕
I’m a drummer and I watch this channel regularly. My guitarist friends are incredibly grateful and appreciative when I share links to your videos.
picked up my guitar again in march,i havent put it down yet. I added a spark amp to my one guitar "rig". All these riffs you play seem to pop up when I'm learning songs, cause you were the one playing on the record. Music is really nice to have in your life. Thanks tom
Watching you play Tom is incredibly humbling....you're like one of those painters that splashes paint on a blank canvass and when it's all said and done you've painted a perfect portrait of something or someone....gives me a lot of joy
Another great video
Was in your neighborhood working and had to stop in the Farmland cafe and get the session man really good people uncle Larry
This is my favorite video. Love this guy. God bless
I'm late to this party but I can say that Ziggy's first print for episode 75 is proudly hanging in my music room / home office and it looks killer above my own vintage Gretsch "Compact" Tremolo Reverb amp (they used quotes around compact). With every video, you remind us why we love music, why we love playing music, and inspire so many of us to pick up our instruments. Episode 75 will have a good friend when episode 100 arrives 🍻
That old Gibson looks amazing! Its a beautiful thing to see such a gorgeous old instrument fall into the hands of a true guitar whisperer. Can't wait to see what comes out of that thing!
Hey uncle Larry,
Fun and informative as usual. I'm, sliding that first and third and the third and sixth seems to go along nicely too
I'm here in Australia, recovering with a broken heart and you never fail to lift my spirits.
I proudly wear my homs skoolin t and will be joining the green army as soon as i can
Thanks again
John
Smokin... Just what I needed. Thank you Uncle Larry.
Dang that last lead intro riff, and following, is my fave uncle Larry stuff, so much style and badassery!
And. Forgot to mention, thank you for introducing us to jack Pearson. Totally amazing. Also, the sensational Alex Harvey band absolutely blew me away. I’ll check out the others you mentioned. Man your guitar sounds astonishingly good considering it’s just an I phone mic. Geez ! Awesome. Can’t wait for the shirt
Uncle Larry! Always slaying it... bro you always put a smile on my face and make me laugh out loud and make me grab my guitar. That arch top is beautiful man. Looking forward to hearing more about this Muscle Scholes trip! Definitely gonna pick up an Uncle Larry’s Army tee. I knew you were feelin’ better ‘cuz you were in the garage in a t-shirt! 😂
Your playing is like a fresh air in modern guitar world to me. GOAT!
Man Tom that was awesome. I love watchin you pop the clutch and get things moving right along. What a sweet thing it is to witness. Must be amazing to be able to do such a thing. I am for sure much better myself since becoming aqquainted with you uncle Larry. Thats a fact.. much respect and thanks. P.s. Ann Wilson no shit. Im sure that will be one sick experience. Heart was unbelievable in my humble opinion. Ann Wilson is one woman that can sing. Enjoy....
Heart is the reason I wanted to play guitar as a kid. Also the first band I got a tape for. Hope your recording session with Anne went well!💖 ✌ 😁
As a fellow session man (I'm an amateur compared to you and players of your level and experience since I mostly record online sessions and rarely get to see a big studio) I have to say you are a true inspiration and have taught me more in your homeskoolin' than all teacher, jam session, recording session combined! Hope to make it one day in Nashville and play rhythm for you in a session buddy!
Oh man. Cant wait to hear the music that ‘ol L5 will teach you. That strat was pretty forthcoming today by the way.
Cool technique, Tom. I dig the octave effect, too.
I've been listening to Ann Wilson lately. She's rocking pretty hard lately! Can't wait to hear what you bring to her table
Uncle Larry, Congrats on your beautiful L5 sure it will be a geat addition on your weaponery arsenal. Many thanks for the push to learn new chord inversions and unusual sound that's started to school me to go "out of the box"
I was listening to Ann Wilson on Eddie Trunk yesterday...she was talking about doing upcoming sessions at Muscle Shoals. These days, it's hard to tell if interviews are live or on repeat, but this confirms it's new and it's happening. Wow...what I would do to be on fly on that studio wall to see this!! I started playing guitar because of Heart (they played at my high school in Vancouver, BC while they were recording at Mushroom Studios in the beginning)...and here I am getting more guitar stoke from a totally different medium...and the two will meet in a few days. Crazy! Thanks Ann and Uncle Larry!
Congrats on the L5 Tommy! That is sweet, love that black stinger!! Lots of possibilities there!! 8) --gary
Every time I watch an episode of Homeskoolin" I feel as if I'm taking a trip back to the good ol' days of the 70's.
I liked the transitions!
Ann Wilson...that’s rock n’ roll royalty you’ll be working with there, Tom! One of the BEST voices in rock, period, female or male.
I just pre ordered my 100th episode poster from Ziggy. It's a pretty damn cool design!
Really Anne Wilson? Nice....I listen to everything and Heart showed up on my radar again. Those early albums with Roger Fisher...those are some awesome unique guitar parts. Deroser is a kick ass drummer too. She's a great singer. Congrats. Proud of ya. The guitar work in Magic Man is worthy of study and inquiry. Thank you again for all you share.
That was cool. Thanks ol' pal!
Hi Tom, I am new here after I saw your Rig rundown. You play fantastic man! Greetings from The Netherlands. (Thank you very Dutch :) )
Rrrrrrrriiipping. Your creativity is epic. EPIC I say. Out of all your skills, that is the one that can't be taught. You have it in spades. Really really cool.
Man, that sounds fantastic.
Uncle Larry never fails to lift my mood.
Uncle Larry I've been here since day 1 and you have a lot of cool guitars but you and that stratocaster are one best wishes to you and the family from philly
Absolutely awe inspiring playing in the intro! I heard a tune from the upcoming Dan Auerbach produced posthumous Tony Joe White release and thought "this is some top notch playing, I bet Uncle Larry is on this record."
Uncle Larry is kickin some SERIOUS ASS this mornin........LOVE IT.
What strings are on that fuckin thing?!? Gahd dammmm
I know that when I put some old Uncle Larry stuff to steal something then Uncle Larry himself drops another one in that exactly moment. Too Hot 🔥! By the way thank you to introduce the Britt bros to me few lessons ago. Awesome knowledge. Now I'm gonna check it this 95!!!
Backing track in 7/8, nothing too complicated for uncle Larry! Great playing as always.
So good. It’s just so good.
Oh yeah... play that thing son. Love that loop, too! Uncle Larry!
Its a shame Tom Dowd couldn't do your Muscle Shoals session. I hope we get a studio update while you're there!
Ever since you said “I’m not much of a blues guy” you have been bluesy as hell....love the opening with the octaver. My favorite weird Uncle!!
I like the cool little slidy thing. Also you've been holding out on us Uncle Larry with your other talent. I saw an old video of you playing piano.
Mr. Upstroke does it again. Thank you sir
I REALLY ENJOYED LISTENING TO ...."YOU"....DID NOT NEED A LESSON AFTERWARDS....I WAS TOO FOCUSED ON WHAT I JUST HEARD....LISTENED SEVERAL TIMES......THANK YOU.....TOM. THERE ARE RIFFS AND THEN THERE IS MUSIC....VERY INSPIRING.
WHOA DUDE!!!!!!!!!!! You are amazing
Glad to see that things have warmed up in the garage. As to the guitar playing...Jesus H. Christ that's some powerful stuff.
I appreciate this page, and what it offers to its viewers. I’m not musically inclined. But my boyfriend Zach is. He watches every episode, it’s his birthday on the second and would be a great surprise to him if you could give a small shoutout for his 33rd birthday! Thanks for continuing to share your passion!
I’m kinda stoked to hear that project with Ann Wilson
Very proggy intro before it hued to blue tones. Really inspired. That L5 looked in prime condition. Beautiful wood. So pre-war. I'm sure there's a session that needs an L5 vibe. You'll play some fine melodies on it!
how about 50k+ subs!!! Nice, congrats
Pretty cool stuff today Tonemeister.
Happy Straturday Uncle Larry and all my classmates!!!
🐉💀👽🎸🎶🎵🧠
That Strat sounds awesome!
that intro - man that was genious :)
Finally a new episode! Thank you. Have you checked out Morgan Wade? I hope the two of you work together. Her voice and your playing would be a perfect match. Love ya man
Thanks man!!
I guess i'm buying a vintage archtop now.
Priorities R.J, you need a computer! sorry man, I had to do it lol cheers!
yep , krenar is right , and no mac/apple , wich are total rip offs
is the Barney Kessel still rocking? technically not an arch top I suppose but that guitar rules. I am looking at old 40s epiphones myself
Yes RJ
@@justinguitarcia lol nice remark about Barney man he gets overlooked alot
Playing with theee Ann Wilson? Daaaaamn, Uncle Larry
Barracuda
You´re a rock & roll role model.
Thanks for the videos.
p.s. Archtops can be addictive.
you're awesome, uncle larry! would love to see how you build the loop from scratch.
Tom, I just heard Ramble Tamble... the art of simple complexity. I wanted to share that feeling of hearing a truly great song for the first time.
Much respect...
Hey Tom, when you play it's pure magic! Your episodes brought back joy to composing my own music with more complex changes, all that songwritting knowledge makes my head spin!
You are a true inspiration and as my friend called you: " A swiss army knife amongst session guitarists!" When we do a session now, we joke: " Play what BUK would play" or " That's one out of the BUK (book)" I have a question also, do you guys get any royalties if you come up with some reefs or hooks that make a difference in a song that you are working on?
Cheers from a fellow session man from your mother-land Slovenija.
Been watching your channel for a few weeks now. Always had a love/hate with guitar. I never could get to where I thought I should be, get frustrated and walk away, sometimes for months. After watching though, I realize I was trying to get good when I should have been trying to get better. The destination doesn't exist without the journey. Thank you, and sorry about the existential horseshit.
13:10 is straight out of Mamurni ljudi by Leb i Sol. Great song and even greater lead guitarist Vlatko Stefanovski who everyone here should know about. Electric or acoustic the guy is a master.
Very much an Eric Johnson vibe on that loop. Killer stuff!
I was at Rumble Seat on Tuesday, that place is so cool. Met Thurston while we were there, he was really nice and funny.
