Uncle Larry, I’ve been playing for over 20 years, and someday I hope to be able to invoke one tenth of the emotion you do when you play. Those chords, man. You’re an incredible inspiration.
I'm an engineer. Never going to be a great guitarist. I enjoy the process of the hobby. Never wanted to make my hobby a job. Relearning to play after a couple strokes made it all the more precious. Every once in a while someone will mention some great guitarist who overcame some malady to be even better and that I have no excuse. Well, I wasn't good to start, lost the use of my left hand/arm for a decade. Feel blessed to be here...will die a guitar hack. I'm okay with that. Thanks for the forum to chat, Tom
Uncle Larry is a servant of the music. He is a champion FOR the music (and the listener), and serves selflessly, with true caring, dedication, and devotion, and sends the music straight into your heart. REAL LOVE. . . . . . top that MFs !
I love the way the whammy detunes your chords when you start with it depressed as you hit the notes so they sound like they’re falling apart, then you release it and everything’s in tune. Hell then heaven.
I have been trying to steal the blues turn around that you played at 1:06 since I first heard you play it with Trapp! I got it now and thank you! Flipping awesome
Damn near every song/tune I ever learned ( I started in 1974 ), was totally by ear, listening to records & tapes, with the help of Budweiser beer. The beer literally helped me get the vibe & groove of all of those songs. ( I've always played & sang at the same time. Still do. )
If I had to describe Tom Bukovac with a single word it would be the word real. Real meaning that his demeanor is down to earth, humble and sincere, with a refreshing lack of pretension. There are as many life lessons here as there are music/guitar lessons.
Hey Tom... I'm from Uk (no idea who Teddy Boy is though! Lol) ... not sure if there was more, but can tell you that the comment you read out in this vid would not be considered as "going after someone" here ... In fact, I would have read that as a general conversation starter rather than a personal slight toward you... We British are WAY less filtered when we speak than Americans! ... I hope this helps diffuse any tension! ... Would also like to say that I think you're doing an amazing job with this channel, and honestly, I still enjoy all the content you share as much today as I did back in 2020 when you started... Not one bad video yet... May you long continue to find inspiration, both for your music and your channel!!! 🤘😊
Tim Pierce tipped me off to your channel, and I’m so glad he did. Now I get up mid-morning, grab a coffee and check out what’s happening with you-a great way to start the day. Stay cool, bro.
Glasses? $1500.00 for 3 sets of frames + tests and perscription. I used the whammy to wiggle and shimmer chords, and with a volume pedal, used it to play fake steel guitar in the variety band I was in for 27 years. I had a real early Paul Reed Smith, like from the 80s. Uncle Larry shows more musicality in 2 minutes on here than I demonstrated cumulatively in all of my 27 years on the bandstand. Talent is real, as is the lack of it. :-)
I got a Music City bridge for my 62 LP/SG Jr and it works perfectly. The guitar actually intonates well now, and sounds amazing. Awesome video and thanks for the gold on using the bar and the slide.
I started coming here a few years back for the playing but as time goes on I’m coming here for the chatting. Power and respect to you Tom. Greetings from Brisbane Australia.
Many thanks uncle larry for being such a beacon of light to all of us working class guitar slingers...i may never see the mainstage, but everytime i learn something from ole tommy..it makes me feel accomplished as if the whole world was watching cheering me on.
Long time viewer, first time commenter, but thank you Uncle Larry. I love sitting across the table from you on YT, and soaking up your wisdom & humor. And by all means, go get Plexi Soul. I turned my wife onto it, and it never fails to set the mood, hubba hubba. It’s so good. I know, it’s only rock n roll, but I like it!
So fitting that you chose a Paul Simon tune to learn off a record. I just learned One Trick Pony and Nobody from the One Trick album! That recording, and many more of his songs are an exercise in harmonic excellence. Funny note to include in a message to you, a former Cleveland native is: when Richard and Paul, in the film of same name, are talking as Paul is bathing, the camera then looks out the window across Brookpark Rd. including the marquee of the hotel they’re in. On the marquee it reads “ Vince Harrison and the Naturals “. The band I was sideman with at the time. Playing at Joe Finan’s Four Seasons Lounge. Not long after I met your guru, Bubba and had the pleasure working with him and remaining friends to this very day. Sorry about the meandering grammatical extravaganza herein but a bit of Cleveland mini history. Love Home Skoolin’!!

When is one of you guys, and I'm assigning you, going to do the video on guitar face? 😩😟😖😵💫 This is too important a lesson to be left neglected. ✌️

Uncle Larry! Firstly, thank you for everything! Your wisdom and guidance has brought new life to my passion of playing music. Secondly, back in late March I had the opportunity to go to Nashville (from Canada) to play on a project with Pat and Kalmusky at Oceanway and Curb. The whole experience was life changing, but Kalmusky dropped your name in a casual conversation and since then I've become a huge fan and follower of yours. It took 2 weeks to obsessively catch up on every single Homeskoolin' video. You're a massive inspiration Man and I hope I can buy you a Rolling Rock the next time I'm down there. I will be back LOL. Cheers!
May I ask which part of Canada you’re from? There’s a woman in my town , in Nova Scotia, who has an audition next month in Nashville. It’s for singing.
Love your cast. I've been playing so much more since I started watching. I used to be a session bass player in LA back in the late 70's. There were too many shitty whammy bar guitar players , I switched to bass.i stopped playing for a living in the late 90's. Love that opening song. Sweet
I think Fender should rename it the Beck Bar. On pickup height, I'd love to see you take measurements on everything. I think the most underrated best trem design is the one on a vintage Mustang. Great feel, less tuning issues. I know it all depends on the individual pickup but nice to have a starting point. Or maybe just a general approach to setting and balancing them. Seems like the bridge has a smaller window of goodness and then I get the neck to balance with it. Raising the P90 tip was a big one for me, thx.
I'm one of the guys that asked about pickup height in the past. Thanks for answering. I'm also a fan of low pickups for similar reasons and wanted to hear your views on it. Another one that drives me batty is people obsessed with having all the pickups at the same height on a guitar. It makes no sense. I set mine where I like the sound of them and don't worry about whether they match each other except for similar volume.

I appreciate the fact you even tend to read some of mine, and reply. I never get to serious here unless I have a question concerning guitars and this is the place to go for people who love playing guitar. Thanks Dave, dug your vid today.
