If you are wanting to make a move to the Idaho area and are looking for some guidance and someone who can put a plan together based off your goals, timing and navigating a relocation, then I want you to do the following. Step 1. Start by first going to www.myboisehousesearch.com and start looking at all the homes for sale in our area. Step 2. We will reach out to you to schedule a time to meet in person or over the phone or zoom to see how we may be able to help get your plan put together. Step 3. Once we have your plan in place, then you can start packing and start making your way to Idaho.
My family and I are looking at the move The job opportunity I thought I had did not pan out.. still trying to figure out how much we have to make there versus California living. Middle class here and can just survive making 125 k combined here. Any thoughts?
Also maybe a meeting during the holiday weekend? My in laws have an exit plan already and the rest of us want to follow. If you help I would live to hear about it
@@ejavitz That sounds great. I would love to connect. I don't think that with your income you will have any trouble enjoying your life here in ID. You will love it. I can always put you in touch with the finance team to see where you are at, at anytime. Would that be helpful?
Moving is equal to a "burn out". Regardless where you move to, it takes 5-10 years minimum to become part of a new "community". Speaking from experience.
I recommend anywhere you desire to live is to first rent or stay on extended visit(s), in order to really experience the area, amenities, culture and people. Furthermore, research and focus on all aspects of the potential area Prior to moving or visits.
If you're coming from Cali, definitely consider not moving here. You're gonna pay Cali prices without Cali ammenities. (you know what I'm talking about) This state is about to crash hard and most people out here are oblivious to it. Not their fault, they don't know the long term effects of a massive influx (it's their first time) but yeah, consider going more East. To give you an idea, a lot of realtors in Idaho are from Cali, so that should give you an idea of how things are gonna shake out here.
I can attest to this from first hand experience. I lived 6 minutes from the beach in SD before moving to Meridian Idaho in 2020. I knew pay would be less but thought price of living would be relative. I didn’t go there with bags of money buying up houses like they all seem to think 🙄 I simply rented a place and got a job like any normal person. It wasn’t long before I realized I could not sustain my expenses with what I could make there. I was shocked to see how the prices for groceries gas and other things were the same and sometimes higher than in California! I was drowning in debt after only a year trying to subsidize my income. We left.
@@triciametz3096 A common end result. Once people get here and realize they were sold snake oil they dip. It didn't take long for me to catch on how things are going out here. Turns out a promise of safety and clean roads just isn't good enough in the long run. I hope you're in a place more to your liking. If it wasn't for commitments I'd probably leave too. Maybe i'll just wait out what's happening here and hope I can grow some roots.
Boise doesn't feel like Idaho any more, it's turning into a mini Cali. I know many people who have decided to get out and move somewhere more like Boise used to be. Mostly people who want to buy a home, Boise isnt much cheaper than California at this point but the wages are still way behind the surrounding states.
Just spent 2 weeks in Boise. Good God the liberalism is out of hand in Boise. They are dying to turn beautiful downtown Boise into Portland. Super scary. Can not even look funny at the homeless and junkies. They have a free pass to do whatever they want.
Moving to a new city or state often teaches us more about ourselves and our own priorities than it does about the place itself. What we think we value may not always be what we value most. Sometimes, because something is lacking in our lives, we jump to the place that provides what is lacking only to discover that we had grossly overestimated its importance to us in relation to the big picture.
People do exactly this in relationships also. They focus on one missing thing and trade an otherwise great situation for something that's lacking 3 other things and realize they greatly overvalued the thing they thought they needed.
@@OtisFlint As they say, "You don't know what you got 'til it's gone." They also say, "You can't get everything you want." I knew a rich, powerful head of a company that I worked for. I don't know what was in his soul, but he was not what anyone would call "nice." Anyway, he had a mansion. His six-year-old kid went flying off the second floor landing and ended up unconscious in the hospital. Two days later, his girlfriend's body was found hanging naked from an outdoor bedroom balcony. The kid died a day or two after that. You can have everything, but you usually won't have it for long.
I moved there in September of 2020. I’m a single mom with a young son and we were both really struggling in California during the shut down. I was stuck working at home and my son was struggling trying to do Zoom and no friends while everything shut down. Unlike the general misconception about Californians, I’m NOT a democrat with left leaning ideologies and I did NOT show up with bags of gold from selling my huge mansion is Californian🙄 We ended up in Meridian near Boise. At first we were Soo excited! But over time I was having the WORST time keeping us financially afloat. I worked at 3 different jobs while I was there. First two were so bad I left after 4-5 wks which I’ve never done before in my life! I stayed at the last job until I moved. (We just left two months ago to AZ)Those 3 jobs were in my experience pretty much the worst jobs I’ve ever had!!! They pay poorly and the managers were rude and very unprofessional. It’s a right to work state which apparently equates to - love it or leave it. No benefits, no HR if things aren’t ethical, and stingy pay in return for your undying faithful devotion to them. It’s insane, and I’m a very hard worker so that says a lot! I come from a career field that typically makes pretty decent money, but NOT in Idaho. Along with the poor wages, the price of living was literally almost as high and higher on some things! I was drowning in bills and subsidizing with credit. The last job I had was considered one of the best and I knew I really wasn’t going up from there. I started realizing I didn’t actually LOVE Idaho enough to struggle that hard. I met some very nice people who we will always keep in touch with, but in general idahoans are very different. Kind of guarded and to themselves.. many have never even traveled to another state! They have no concept of life outside of idaho. Also, it seemed the people I worked with had nothing better in life to do but constantly back bite everyone. As a single mom it’s hard because you really can’t just go out like a single person but you don’t have a partner to help go places like camping etc like some families do there. And in general there’s not all that much to do besides camp, fish, hike or horse back ride. It all sounded great in theory but the reality of it wasn’t as exciting. My biggest warning to anyone moving there is (A) Be prepared to be automatically HATED if you’re from California -no matter what your actual situation is, and (B) Better have a financial back up plan or be very prepared to live a low budget life style. People in Idaho still pay like it’s 25 years ago and expect you to work like a dog and like it. (C) Most employers are extremely stingy and set in their ways. The money coming in now is a fairly new experience to them and they hoard it like Scrooge McDuck! They love the money that’s coming into this area, but abhor the people that bring it. (D) It’s very dreary and dark for 5-6 months of the year and hard to mix and mingle when it’s so cold. Maybe if you’re a skier with lots of friends, but most people don’t do that every single day anyway. It’s the day to day life that counts and for me it felt very lonely. I joined a church and tried to do things here and there, but it’s hard as an adult to create those deep connections. Also, It’s very very dry, so prepare for bloody noses and crocodile skin. And shopping- they’ve got one mall in Boise that’s decent. But around town it’s Albertsons or Fred Myers for everything, and repeat of the basic chain stores every few miles. It leaves a lot to be desired, but coming from California in San Diego I knew not to compare it. Yes it’s beautiful in the Spring & Fall and like anywhere has some perks, but over all -I just didn’t love it enough to stay. And most people there, don’t want you there either! The only ones inviting you to move there are Realistate agents! The actual “Native Idahoans” as they love to refer to themselves as, don’t want change and they definitely don’t want you there! It’s all over town with rude bumper stickers, Facebook groups, people making small talk.. I’ve heard it all. So yeah- I didn’t find it to be very welcoming in general. You’ve been warned ;) It’s definitely not the Hallmark story living you might be hoping for. If you read this entire rant- God bless you 😆
6 months is not long enough. I moved here February 2021. I wanted to go back home after 3 months but I stuck it out. Now it's November 2021. This is the best place to live and I've seen 70% of the country. I think they just got home sick.
I wish I could sympathize, but you don't just pick up and move to somewhere you've never been, and expect an immediate connection every time. If they moved here in 2020, or shortly before, OF COURSE they couldn't make friends and socialize. It was 2020! Anyway, move around if you can while you're young. Find that place that gives you warm fuzzies. You should never hate where you live. Often that's the only thing that keeps us sane.
I picked up and moved to Idaho and had never even been there before. I had no grand expectations, only that it was someplace new and had mountains and I was getting out of the south. I grew up in Colorado and I really missed the mountains and at the time couldn’t afford to move back to Colorado. I moved to Boise didn’t know anyone and it was still the best thing I ever did for myself. I lived there for eight years and would love to go back sometime. It’s just too expensive to go back there now. Although I’m back in Colorado and housing is exorbitantly outrageous here. I didn’t make that many friends while I lived in Boise but I didn’t need many and I loved living there I loved the mountains I loved all the places I went to visit I loved my house it was just the most awesome eight years of my life. I would love to move back to Boise. Unfortunately housing is so expensive there now it’s not possible.
We rented a 2br townhouse in 2018 for $650/mo...flash forward to 2021 and everything is pushing $1100+/mo for the exact same thing. I lived in San Diego, off base housing and had a 2br townhouse for $1860/mo...it's getting pretty close to that here and rising. So think wisely. RENT IS NOT CHEAP AT ALL!! Found out an airman had bought a house for $100k a couple yrs ago...sold his house this year for $400k and moved back on base. EVERYTHING is getting expensive. Don't be fooled by "it's cheaper in Idaho", because it's really not.
@@Justaguy0420 i was paying $1860/mo back in San Diego in 2008. It's gone up much more by now obviously. Your comment of "stop complaining, I pay more than you", doesn't line up with the rest of your comment.. We live pretty humble..nothing fancy. Its cheaper to pay lot rent/utilities. Save money for other things rather than a new apartment/house with expensive utilities. Especially when the economy is getting rough. I just got tired of paying rent for years and years and not having anything to show for it when we had to move out. I am thankful I have something to call my own and it's fully paid off. Work smarter not harder. 😉
It is for those of us that are true country mountain people. If you want to live near degenerate population in cities it's expensive. They like to live like cockaroaches in cities
We moved to the Idaho panhandle (total opposite of Bosie) with lots of green, mountains, lakes, and snow. It took me 5 years before Idaho really started to feel like home. Unfortunately, my 19 y/o son can't wait to move back to California, he hates the weather here.
It was the same for me in Georgia gave it 8 years. I visited idaho a couple of times have family and friends there and I love it. Idahoans are MY PEOPLES! I was born and raised in California but was always treated like an outsider. Idaho treats me like a member of the family. Love it!
I moved to Idaho and had never been there before. I just up and moved there and it was the best thing I ever did. I loved it so much. I really miss living there I lived there for eight years.
As a social conservative, I still wouldn’t want to live in such a limited hypocritical state like Idaho. I’ve come to notice that contrary to your belief, even with time and genuine effort, not all who are social conservative, Independent, Republican, or even apolitical have come to fall for the lie that moving to Idaho was for their betterment. Unfortunately, those voices are often downplayed or ignored and this is an issue not just in Idaho. It’s everywhere. There are problems everywhere. There are rude hypocritical natives everywhere. There are busybodies everywhere. In the end, you move or live to what works for you and your individual family and if you have kids that live to become adults and they still don’t like living where you do, I’m in full support for them finding what ethical living environment, be it city or country, that’s fine for them! Im not passionate about Idaho or any state in America, and I was born in Texas on an army base. My dream present earthly home of choice is living is in Northern France. It has everything I am passionate and love though, just as with America, Ukraine, Canada, the UK, it’s run by a socialist tyrant which breaks my heart for my adopted people to endure such a tyrant. Yet, I still love and prefer the rich centuries of history, music, culture, knowledge of France - yet I try to live in peace with all. In any case, find what living area works best for you.
A realtor friend of ours told us that many out-of-staters move here, go thru winter and want out. Winters aren’t even that bad. So funny. The best story is one woman came to city hall asking what a good laundry service was. The answer, “uh, your washer and dryer.” Keep in mind we live in a town of 3500 way up on a mountain. Research people…it’s a thing!
@@GoIdahoThen, why did you agree with the lie that it takes effort and time when it doesn’t always work out, even with time and genuine effort? No wonder the wise never move to a state or country that they know never will be good for them in the long run.
I have to say, we have been here for 6 years and have tried several things. My husband was involved in league rugby, we’ve gone to adult night at the museums, gone downtown, gone to festivals, we have tried a lot of social things and have not found a niche of people that we click with. Unless you’re a born and bred Idahoan it will never feel like home. The people are a special taste here. We’ve lived all over the country (my husband has lived around the world) and honestly Idaho has been the most unwelcoming and least homely place. All we can say is we are counting down until our next move, and good luck if you’re moving here.
I would have to disagree completely. I'm the social media manager here and moved 2 months ago. I have never been welcomed into a community more that I have here. I'm from California where eveything is about yourself and selfish. Just one man's opinion.
You're absolutely right, we are a special breed. Had a nice conversation with the locals at the grocery store today and we were all bashing the folks moving here. We ALL hate it. It sucks for so many reasons for us. You've helped our property taxes go up, water, sewer, ect... You've caused traffic to get worse, schools to be overcrowded, hell, I can't even get appointments with my doctor anymore. I had to go out of the city. Gee, we just love all the folks coming here. 🙄🙄
Sure I can relate to that alone feeling. I’m in northern california and when I agreed with just one thing that the last president did I became an outcast from everything like my golf group to my neighbors. The hate I revived was over the top . I couldn’t believe I wasn’t allowed to have a opinion. I decided I’m out of this lunatic woke state of failed leftist policies. I went to North Idaho just before the election and upon arrival the first thing I noticed were Trump and american flags in almost every front yard. If I put a Trump flag in my yard in california someone would likely damage my home. First thing I noticed about the folks in northern idaho was they didn’t have green, purple or orange hair with a million studs in there face and instead were folks of faith values and morals. To me it’s what I consider normal. I seemed to fit right in and i’m having a home built there right now. Can’t wait!
Hmm, maybe I'll relocate there. Boise's got plenty of tattooed people with hair of different colors and piercings and a lot of rough attitudes. I do believe the rudest people are from out-of-state.
I’m leaving Georgia soon after retirement and I’m looking for what I consider ‘normal’ values like common sense. The summer heat is becoming unbearable in Georgia along with the ever so quickly changing values for about 50% of the population. Where would you recommend I start, what area of Idaho ?
So happy for you. Relocated from Southern California to Ada County Idaho. Was shocked at the commonplace appearance of unicorn hair colors, tattoos, and vaping (especially because many of the people participating are 40++ years of age). Was not used to that in the beautiful coastal suburbs I relocated from. Not many Trump flags here. Definitely would be a poor idea to hoist a Trump flag on one's home, or place such a bumper sticker on one's vehicle in this area. Lots of hot heads in the area with poor manners, myopia, and short fuses. Boise people seem the nicest in Ada County. Less than 50% of the population in the area is native to Idsho. So many are primarily from Northern California, Oregon, and Washington, and some are from Las Vegas and Utah as well. Plenty of the out-of-state people are rough, and many seem to have a large sense of entitlement and disgruntled and selfish attitudes. Sounds like you found a jewel up north. All the best!
@@michelem7986 The leftist woke folks just never seem to get enough of what they want to be happy. Northern california was full of them around Santa Rosa and surrounding areas. They look at me as if I’m some sort of prior slave owner and the worlds problems are my fault because I’m white. That got old fast and I’m out and not looking back. My 15yo son is better off as well. Public schools are horrible in california . They push the hate the flag and america’s founders along with globalization and open boarders. Sick shit
We moved here 2 years ago. It is a bit hard to connect.HOWEVER we love the people, the climate, the recreational opportunities. We feel safe here! What we do miss is the Eastern Sierra . I would love to find folks to fish with ,sorry, not a fly fisherman.Camping season is usually longer in Calif than Idaho. But not this year due to record snow pack.I know my neighbors. The five members of our family came up together. It has drawn us closer to each other and to the Lord. It takes a while to make strong connections, learn where to go,what to get involved in.
It absolutely does. It's rare that you have an instant connect with someone. But it does happen. Generally speaking though you are right on the money! Thanks Gene!!
I would never give Boise any consideration, just because of one of their main reasons... how dry and flat it is. Northern Idaho can be beautiful with the rivers and mountains, but it's STILL dry, and VERY cold and snowy. But in the treasure Valley, once you go beyond the reach of a sprinkler system, then it's just barren, brown, crispy, awfulness. I'm perfectly satisfied here where I am in Central Missouri, shade trees, hills, green grass, and 40 inches of rain per year. And I have MORE freedom than even northern Idaho where all those nutcase preppers seem to congregate. Boundary county, Idaho in ZONED. about 3/4 of the 114 counties in Missouri have no zoning whatsoever, which means you can do exactly what you want with your land, whenever you want... without any permit (within reason, of course) Urban counties won't be this way... but most of the rural ones are.
Oh my goodness! That story can happen ANYWHERE. One has to give it TIME in a new location. It takes TIME to form friendships. Joining a church and a small group I think is essential, or joining a group in a topic/hobby you are passionate about. I live in Bend, OR and there was couple that moved away I thought too fast for the same reason. Also! People have to be outgoing and invited people over. It takes EFFORT.
Yeah, it takes at least 6 months to settle into a new place. New friends take a lot longer. They should have at least gone through all four seasons. 6 months is just not a good trial.
You forget that sometimes the effort yields nothing, not just for a few but many. However, the wise can foresee when an area is not going to work out for them, so they wisely don’t bother to move to such a state. Just as you and I wouldn’t want to move to California or NYC, as a social conservative, I also wouldn’t want to live in Texas again (I was born there) or Idaho. :)
You need to be wealthy to live in Boise. Or have lots of roommates to help pay the Seattle priced rent with low paying jobs that dont support the high cost of living
Six months seems to be a rather short period of time. There is bound to be a period of adjustment. When my brother and sister-in-law moved from Boston to New Hampshire, they took a long time to make friends, but it did happen and they developed a strong network of friends and colleagues. I think that you have to give it time. Also, if they moved in at the height of the pandemic (this video is a year old), they couldn't possibly judge the area by what they saw. They were in the middle of a lockdown!
What native / long time Idahoans don't understand about people moving to the state is that alot of people don't WANT to come. They feel like they have limited options to escape where they're from and that it s one of a handful of places that could.possibly offer a reprieve from tyranny.
Mail boxes are being broken 💔 into Here in good family New housing development 🤔 Bakersfield CA,why My daughter moved to Idaho, loves it, Small City,I be moving too 💫🙏🏠 Yes family
some people don't even know what friends are. that women isolated herself and it takes time to build real friendships. they missed out bigtime. ive been here over 10 years, happiness comes from inside. you cant run or move from your self. not enough distractions for some people to do the interior work on themselves.
A lot of people here in idaho do hate on California folks , They have a good reason , But not all cali people are left wing ! I live here in Idaho Falls and might be leaving soon , PAY IS LOW !!! Unless you get a job at INL lab! Lots of things here cost more here rather then cali too !!! BLEW MY MIND!!
We moved here a year ago, and I grew up in northern Idaho near CDA. I am definitely regretting it, but my husband likes it- I think it's because he grew up here. While our home is safe and neighborhood is clean, it's been really hard to adjust to a slower pace. We are going to give it another year and see how we feel then.
Ahh I’m so sorry to hear that. I’m glad you are sticking it out of another year though. I hope it gets better. If i can be of any help, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Yeah I watched the one where the guy said be prepared, people can be pretty aggressive with how much they don't want you here, until you get your plates changed and "fit" in. Charming.
I grew up in Michigan and now sadly because of work in in LA...what a God awful place to live. The most unfriendly ppl in the country, the worst most aggressive drivers and the weather sucks, same thing everyday. I KNEW when this video started that the couple HAD to be from CA, I just knew it! If you hate God, freedom and weather, do us all a favor and stay in CA, that simple. I am hoping to someday get the hell out of here and move to the great state of Idaho..or anywhere other than CA.
Yup. I moved to N. Idaho and I've been here for 12 years. The open hatred for "newbies", "invaders", "Interlopers", "transplants", etc. is loud, hostile, bullying and hateful. It's mean and it's bigoted. Wish I'd never moved here, but it's really hard to pull up stakes and leave after the fact. And it's the most right wing, closed-minded, mean spirited place I've ever lived in. Can't wait to get out. And no, I'm not a Democrat, I'm a conservative, so please save the "move to Portland" type comments, thank you.
Better curriculum in schools 😂😂😂😂 Idaho is the last on the list. Their schools are ATROCIOUS. Just moved from Boise after living there for 30 years. So glad to be out. It used to be such a great place. It’s awful now
My story is pretty much the same as yours except I only lasted six weeks. Made less than 20 dollars a day flying med evac in a 210. This was forty years ago.
Do many retirees move there? We live in Texas and are very interested in moving to Idaho falls, but hoping there are retirees in the area. We love Outdoors, but definetly wanting to connect with 60+.
The 2 problems I have with Idaho is 1 the education system it sucks other people have complained online about this #2 the pay in certain jobs sucks also the pay doesn’t add up with the prices of the homes
Sounds like these people would have been unhappy no matter where they moved. In 2020 things were shut down everywhere, good luck meeting people and make new friends during a pandemic.
We moved from the Midwest 13 years ago to Idaho even though we live between Lewiston and Grangeville in a small town called Forest, Idaho population 12 we have never looked back!!
I understand these desperate last-ditch efforts to convince people not to move to Idaho, but it’s too late. It’s destined to be the new “Cali”. Homeless campgrounds of RV’s and pick-up’s from the west coast especially make Idaho very attractive. Weather is surprisingly mild compared to other states too.
I understand how it feels when you move into a New place , But let alone moving from another state is challenging , I remember I moved from California to Upstate New York , And Wow what a difference , My life changed immensely, I felt sooo alone as well, And truly it can take years to truly settle in a new city and state. And eventually I loooooved New york . But it takes a while to get settled in . I lived in Ny for almost 15 years , But moved back to my homestate and have been back here in the Bay Area for almost 13 years , But Alot of my family have moved to Idaho, and out of many states that I have visited , I just loove Idaho and after visiting my family and experiencing life in Boise , I would love to move there , It is sooooo wholesome . But back to the lady you described in the story feeling lonely, Don't worry lady it does get better. Coming from moving experience .
We had property in Sandpoint in 1978 and moved to the Rathdrum in northern Idaho in 1990. We lived in a rural area in Calif and we wanted the same in Idaho. We moved in 1990 because my husband got a job here. I think the biggest mistake people make before moving up here is not having a job. Or at least looking at the job market and doing a lot of research about the area before you make that move. Like you said, come up and visit and look around during different seasons as well. The other thing is you have to give it time. We were fortunate in that we have five children. Meeting other people is easy when you have children, as you obviously meet other parents. Same as meeting people through church and and work ...it's easy to fit in. I think moving at retirement age to any place is not a good idea unless you have family or friends already in the area.
Last I heard, Californians are still Americans. Most like me are conservatives looking to escape high taxes and tyrannical leaders. We are Not bringing any liberal political views and voting habits with us , because that’s what we’re escaping. God bless America! 🇺🇸🇺🇸
😲 South Carolina! Glad they are happy now. I was going to say send her to Meridian, we can have lunch, since we are here alone too 😅😊💜 God bless them and you Greg for always being a positive help!
What.. you guys are all over the place staying busy busy. Looks like you are having a really good time here. I can't wait to help you get into your home!!
@@GoIdaho Lol yes we are all over the place and love it 😍😍 school starting soon 😬😅 but yes cannot wait for the day I call you and say, we are ready lol 💜
Southern California is not a good choice under almost every situation. It is expensive, unsafe and unfriendly. If you don't have family here, or a smoking job, move somewhere else. Hard to make friends here. Can't be better than idaho
We have lived here, in Boundary County, Idaho, on 10 acres, for close to 17 years. We live close to Ruby Ridge, if that gives some of you any idea of the mentalities that actually still exist up here! Big mistake we made, as we had no idea back then when we bought this place! Most of the people we have met, including all our neighbors, have always been very difficult, snooty, rude, mean, nasty, and just very condescending. The locals HATE out-of-state people coming here! Even the people who have moved here from other states ende up not being very nice! Most of the local businesses in the small town we live near are also not very nice to deal with. Some of that has to do with several very clannish, larger, Religious groups that live up here! To be able to survive the attitudes here, we make the long drives down to Sandpoint to do all of our business and grocery shopping. Naples, Bonners Ferry, and Moyie Springs are full of very snotty, stuck-up folks! Luckily for us, we were/are self employed! So we never took any jobs away from any locals, which was a big concern for our neighbors. We also never had any kids, so we did not burden their schools. We have finally learned to live without any social interactions up here, not even a friendly wave. We do get flipped the bird at least on a weekly basis, and that has gone on since day one! Oh, and yes, we did come from California all those 16+ years ago. All the neighbors never got over that, even though we were/are Conservatives. (Amazing how there are so many hidden liberals up here!) Anyway, all the neighbors hated us back then, and they still all hate us now! Oh, and the Property Taxes have gotten to the point of INSANE up here this past year, because of total Government GREED! So we are probably going to finally put this place up for sale and hopefully get OUT of very unfriendly Idaho come next Spring!
There are no videos on RUclips that really talk about Idaho's 6.5% income tax, I currently live in WA so no state tax and was thinking of moving to Idaho for ideological reasons but the state income tax would eat some $4000 of my annual income, if I understand it correctly, and the property tax comapred to WA is not enough of a reduction to cover the difference. I don't personally spend much money, I do not buy new cars and really mostly just save/invest money I don't hire people to do work I mostly do everything myself so I just don't gain from the lower sales tax either and since WA has no sales tax on grocery items I would probably actually pay more sales tax in Idaho since most of my expenses are just groceries. Anyway, I was thinking for years to buy a house and move to Idaho but just see that financially for me I think that won't work out. Perhaps I should look in to Nevada instead.
I moved 8 years ago to Pocatello ID. Not knowing anything about it. My daughter was here had a baby that is handicapped. We came moved all in 5th wheel. She had since moved away were stuck in 5th wheel same park 8 years. Very Morman and have been as nice as possible but they keep coming bringing bibles sunday meals all nice but they want you turned. I have no friends just me and husband. Very depressed. With cost of homes so high now were stuck water pipes went then half electricity 500 mo just for space. Were disabled and stuck.
Yes. Idaho sucks. The large, unsightly homes on half acres in quiet, boring neighborhoods where only the birds and streams make noise is horrible. The other-worldy deep blue sky is ugly, the intense sunlight is painful, the lack of graffiti is disappointing, the wild-west themed summer days are lousy, all the tons of rivers and streams are cold and full of gross, slimy fish, the waterfalls are so loud it should be illegal. So, yes, Idaho sucks. Don't move here.
Idaho is very clickish. It can be hard to fit in. We don't like outsiders. We are very protective of Idaho. We are a republican state and that will never change.

I had a few customers from California usually horrible customers, very intitled I showed up to a customers address to discuss the new year .. and they where packing and moving (she) was visibly annoyed with me she said she could not take another winter like that last one ! I was elated .. but shocked at her reasons .. that's the reason you are moving .. really? Some snow ?
Most people in los angeles have attitudes and negative abilities-but many just want to be talked to-a lot of millionaires who will bid up prices and if you are not honest and a hard worker you will be destroyed-but only need two or three blankets in winter and the 2 or 3 summer months without a breeze can be adjusted for you
Wow, that woman sounds very entitled. Wasting close to $100,000 because after 6 months she didn’t have close friends. Try being a Libertarian in Cali. I haven’t had real friends here since I moved 15 years ago. My wife and I aren’t from Cali originally and I’ve bean trying to convince her to move for over ten years. Idaho is a perfect fit for someone like me, conservative values, likes outdoor actives, pro 2a. Boise sounds to hipster I’ll stay away from there. I’ll wait for the prices to come down and will by something even property and build a small cabin. We all have to have a dream to make it through the hell we live in.
I want to move to Idaho so badly....and the only thing I could agree with form this couple is,... yes there are not enough trees at least in the Boise area for sure! thats why I would prefer Sun valley, but Sun valley is sooo expensive... :-( ...and finding new Friends always takes time, we just have to be patient for that, ....and things to do, well I am a total introvert, so I could not care less about that, mostly all I want to do is be home or out in nature....
All my dealings has been super friendly and very welcoming. I remember when we moved here from OR, our neighbors brought us a cake and we had a lot of help unpacking.
I hate Californians. And I grew up there 🤣 Got out in 1999. Idaho has been ruined, I've seen the slow decline. Moscow is a joke. Boise is not recognizable. It is really sad, slow urban sprawl.
Good story. Idaho isn't for everybody. I picked up on one thing in particular you said about people having trouble meeting people. And almost the next thing you talk about is hooking them up with others like them. There in lies the problem. It starts at the realtor and continues. I have run into this at work. I am 70 year old native Idahoan who tried to buy a house and got snookered out of it by a California buyer and realtor. They didn't want a local living in a neighborhood of Californians. I'm in N.idaho. The other Idaho. Newbys need to integrate, become Idaho. Know your neighbor.
just aggravating. i'm in north central. our property taxes just went thru the roof. they'd been steady for years, and this year they just shot right up. homes are selling for 3 to 4 times their assessed value. this is crazy.
I understand her feeling it’s tough to move after a life time I moved to SE WA and although I love the farming areas and local farmers many of the people here come from the science and engineering background so very dry humor and not real warm or inviting not all people but many ( I am full of personality and really friendly I’ve been here 12 years still ready to move ) Wa laws are getting worse by the minute they handle Covid very poorly lots of people with anxiety and mental health issues from all the fear mongering 😢can’t wait to move out of here
I'm already regretting it a bit, though its largely a mixture of hating the house I ended up picking, as well as the odd behavior of Idahoans which involve packing as many cars on their lawn as possible and leaving them to rust. Mix that with a higher than average mix of ugly and fat people, as well as a lack of good infrastructure, it can be quite the downer if you come from more developed and higher standard locations. Then again, I'm in the northern part where the houses cost too much and the quality of the properties leave a lot to be desired at this point in time, I'm sure it will upgrade in the future. I'm willing to sit it out for a few years before potentially relocating. The reason for going to Idaho in the first place is in large part political, otherwise I probably would have went Washington side. That state, like the rest of the West Coast is going in a bad direction over all. Bad people in charge.
@@HH-eh5ur Hardly, unless you consider low standards of living an upgrade. ;-) "Excellence is never and accident. I think your looking at the glass half empty. Cali has been built up over 100 yr span if not longer, Idaho has small government and low taxes, for a reason. Concentrate on the reason your there, not what you left behind.
@@chuckbrooks7489 Yup. I acknowledge Idaho is developing and that it will take time and effort. The main driver for the regret I do feel is the house I ended up with. When moving here, you have to compromise quite a bit as the houses are either very dated (not in the good way), or new track home styled houses. Mix that with limited supply and well beggers can't be choosers. Not living in a space you are comfortable in will naturally breed a bit of discontent. At least I get to see way more "lets go brandon" yard signs than "ridin with biden" bumper stickers up here.

I think it's hilarious when people move here and don't research it first. Our wages are low, people are not excited to have you here, and thanks to everyone coming in they've wrecked our small state feel. Thanks, from an Idahoan that isn't excited to have you moving here.
After seeing that I am neither woke nor ultra conservative and being in 6+ states I can tell you that in the end, it is up to you! It’s like college, yes, you’ll be okay wherever you go if it’s a stable school, but you may not LOVE IT if you don’t LOVE and have passion for the place you’ll spend 4 years of your life at. Same with work. And same with where you end up settling. Boise has its pros and cons. I would recommend visiting the place and talking to multiple people before you settle. Personally I do not see the charm. But it is a quiet and calm city that has a small town vibe with a big city feel. People are very proud. And very Mormon. There is a culture there. So if you’re not use to it, that’s something to strongly consider or you may dislike your life there. Boise isn’t for everyone and everyone isn’t for Boise. It’s like Portland or Denver. They have their vibes too. I’m still searching for mine. Best of luck.
I am Korean American, and believe that I had been born "anew" at 22 years old... I had a lot of weird life experiences that has to do with the supernatural, and was raised protestant. (I am interested in Eastern Orthodoxy now) After changing as I matured, I just feel like California doesn't fit me anymore. Personally, I love being alone, so I am okay with not having any friends (though I try to be kind to the people that do show me kindness and I try not to give negativity or burden other people). I just really like quiet places in nature where I can be alone, eating healthy, and working out. I plan on doing a side business thing online where I can make a bit more money, and if I can get 1000 dollars per month doing that, I plan on moving to a country where that money can get me middle class status, but anyway, even if I do go to Idaho, I am just going to mind my own business and try not to change the state. Personally I want to go to a more pure and "classic" style of place, as I do want to marry a girl that was raised with the kinds of values those places provide someday... I think a lot of Californians moving to Idaho, picked it because they have similar intentions like me, but maybe that's not how it is in reality....

Sure, you love helping people move to Idaho and the over inflated housing cost is making YOU rich. But what about the locals? What about most of the out-of-staters ruining our beautiful Idaho with their politics? What about local young adults being able to afford housing? All the out of state money helps only 1 group of people, realtors. Realtors have driven the costs up and continue to get paid a percentage of the sale price. It's just WRONG. money is NOT the most important thing. The California millionaires ruined Sun Valley long ago. Then the billionaires pushed the millionaires out of Sun Valley, and the millionaires pushed the locals out of McCall. Today a similar process is under way in Boise. It is disgusting.
We no longer have low property taxes here in Idaho thanks to people like you. As a native Idahoan, my property taxes have almost tripled in the last three years. Please stop promoting our state, it is hurting young and old alike.
If these people think that life is gonna be all rosy within SIX MONTHS of relocation is living a delusional life….doesn’t matter where they go….so good luck with that.

As a Idaho transplant , I can say I understand how this fine couple feels. Although the people here are friendly you can sense being held off I left a group of friends who would get together once or twice a week to shoot the bull and talk trains. We shared the same interest and hobby. We ventured off the mountain to train shows, club layouts and had loads of fun. I haven't found those kind of friends here. Lot's of interest in trains and the hobby. Just no welcome in their inner circle.

I moved from Idaho to Salem, Oregon in 1989 and then moved to Central California the next year 1990. I spent the next 29 years trying to get out of California. I finally moved back to Lewiston, Idaho in Fall 2019. Are there problems in Idaho? The answer is yes. I love it here because I am not being dictated to by some clown in the state capital like certain other states. Do I have to drive to get certain things? Yes. Most of the time I can get somewhere fairly quick. People here are friendly once the find out you are not trying to change their way of life. (I have figured out that most of the a-holes giving you a hard time about being from California are usually originally from California or New York..)

Yes, find out if the place you're going to is plagued with any weather you don't want such as wind, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, humidity, heat or cold etc!)& try to duplicate what you like/need with wherever one is moving. Moving is equal to a "burn out". Regardless where you move to, it takes 5-10 years minimum to become part of a new "community". Speaking from experience.
It’s true! Gotta give it time and make the move for all the right reasons.

Z-Ko that's so very, very true! 👍
We left.

Unlike the general misconception about Californians, I’m NOT a democrat with left leaning ideologies and I did NOT show up with bags of gold from selling my huge mansion is Californian🙄
We ended up in Meridian near Boise.

Yes. Definitely do your research.
I smell communism
@@topgopnik case in point thanks Nathan
I would have to disagree completely. I'm the social media manager here and moved 2 months ago. I have never been welcomed into a community more that I have here. I'm from California where eveything is about yourself and selfish. Just one man's opinion.
You're living in your own private Idaho.
Living in your own private Idaho...
Can’t wait!
Northern Idaho is the best.
Lucky you.

The leftist woke folks just never seem to get enough of what they want to be happy.
You are 💯 on your comment. Love Bend. My hometown!
@@GoIdahoYou are both inaccurate. The truth still stands is that effort and time doesn’t always work. I learned that the hard way. :) God bless!

You need to be wealthy to live in Boise. Or have lots of roommates to help pay the Seattle priced rent with low paying jobs that dont support the high cost of living
Hopefully this is something that can be fixed sooner rather than later as far as wages are concerned. Thanks for watching.
Seriously! If you have a mortgage and get paid pennies ?!

What part of upstate NY did you move to?
Everyone from New Hampshire to Texas is hating on Californians haha. They all say “don’t come here.” 🤣

It will be an upgrade when you leave

I think your looking at the glass half empty. Cali has been built up over 100 yr span if not longer, Idaho has small government and low taxes, for a reason. Concentrate on the reason your there, not what you left behind.
@@chuckbrooks7489 Yup. I acknowledge Idaho is developing and that it will take time and effort. The main driver for the regret I do feel is the house I ended up with. When moving here, you have to compromise quite a bit as the houses are either very dated (not in the good way), or new track home styled houses. Mix that with limited supply and well beggers can't be choosers.

I think a lot of Californians moving to Idaho, picked it because they have similar intentions like me, but maybe that's not how it is in reality....
people with unusually high IQ's tend to be introverts.
you hit the nail on the head.
Northern Idaho is very welcoming. We are relocating there from WA state. Moving our business and life. Cannot wait!!!
Yes please do come up here it is very quiet here and there is so much to do.
Idaho is lucky to have you. Western Australia says bye bye mate.
Please leave your Washington State left-wing radicalism in Washington before coming to Idaho
@@groovies1000 ohh don't worry. We are fleeing for that reason. This state has gotten ridiculous
@@melyssasachse7395 If you are moving to CDA area you can do what I do when I get "Homesick" I go to Washington for say an hour or 2.....Then I am cured.
Exactly. My home was worth 190 when I bought it, and now it's worth 340 k. It sucks because it raised my taxes that I pay yearly for my home.
Idaho has turned into a Southern California Retirement Village.
These people are selfish, rude, and shallow.
You forgot judgemental.
@@bingosunnoon9341 🤣
Interesting. Most everyone we help relocate are just the opposite.
Sounds like people who just didn't think their move to Idaho through. Research is important. Thinking about what's important to you is critical. The future belongs to those who plan for it.
Except for climate change. No escaping that no matter how much you plan.
@@bingosunnoon9341 Climate change will affect people living on the coasts of the U.S. more than anyone else. Whether or not it is caused by fossil fuel combustion is another question. Those who claim to be climate change activists don't have a clue about how to deal with it. They're not promoting any real solutions to the problem. In the end, their misguided ideas will just destroy the economy.
@@audiophileman7047 You are correct. The economy will collapse along with everything else associated with civilized society.
@@bingosunnoon9341 When reality sets in, people just come to their senses and all of the craziness just must go away. A good example is the forest fires. The environmentalists run amok forced forests to become overgrown and wouldn't allow reasonable forest thinning. What do we have now? We have infernos waiting to happen everywhere. Most of them just like to say that it's all due to "climate change". People are catching on.
@@audiophileman7047 So many people have just picked up and moved to other states during this pandemic. I wonder how many more stories like this are out there. You have to do your research and just because a place is nice to vacation there doesn’t mean it’s a great place to live. Paying less taxes , etc wouldn’t make up for my happiness.
Just no welcome in their inner circle.
can't believe even the "train people" ghosted you, coolest people in any state.
So, what you're saying is that you left a place where you had some deep, long-term friendships, and you find that in the new place you don't have deep, long-term friendships. Go figure.
I have lived in six states in my life and learned that there are aholes everywhere. CA was no better or worse, but to fit in you have to adjust just like anywhere else.
@@JSPRKL I have lived in many states as well. Both East and West Coast. California was in my opinion the worst. The Nanny state that is California and the people there are used to it, Just let the state take care of this problem. You usually end up with a bigger problem than what you had to begin with as they apply a cookie cutter approach to everything.
Lose the background music...distracting and anoying...but good content
We love Idaho but your wages are horrid compared to your overinflated home prices!
You are 💯 correct. These home prices and Idaho wages are not comparable. Ughh.
Road trips and meetings folks is a big help.
Very true.
I Live in California and I'm looking to move to Boise. Me and my boyfriend will rent 1st and we'll go from there. But it's funny because I already don't have friends here and don't socialize much due to my anxiety so I probably won't have a hard time adjusting lol
Don't move here. Seriously. It gets dark at 3pm in the Winter.
@@seedy6538 That's not much of a difference from California then lol...for us it's like 4/4:30
If you are leftist SJW'S and hate liberty, dont move here.
If you are a liberal GTFO. If you love freedom, welcome!
@@RafaelSutton liberals are the reason I'm leaving lol
'There's no place like home'-Dorothy in 'The Wizard of Oz' Great video applicable to any move anywhere! It's important for anyone considering a move to make a list of 'lifestyle likes and wants' along with shopping amenities access- ie:shopping within 10 minutes from home, lists of stores you use, medical/VA medical etc. weather (hello?! Yes, find out if the place you're going to is plagued with any weather you don't want such as wind, tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding, humidity, heat or cold etc!)& try to duplicate what you like/need with wherever one is moving. Unless you're looking for something radical, without some similarities to one's current home, less than flexible personalities won't adapt as well!
You’re right about not being wanted in Idaho. Their motto is, “Don’t Californicate Idaho”!
Who cares 😂🤣
I am new to Idaho but not Boise. I am in Pocatello. We moved here from California. I do feel lonely and isolated here. 😢. I don’t know how to meet friends. It is just me and my husband and he is content to sit and watch TV all day. My husband has family here and is the reason we moved.
My advice: anywhere that you have a good paying job is heaven. Rest is just distractions
My experience is a they’re people who you could move to the Garden of Eden and they’ll still be unhappy. I suspect if she’d moved anywhere that wasn’t what she’d left, she’d be unhappy.
You’re 2.25 yrs too late to find anything affordable!
We bought 2.75 yrs ago and have seen an 92% increase in FMV. Now, there’s nothing under $2MM that’s comparable to our custom build!
Love it here in ID!
I wish there where more stories like this im a native and cannot buy a house in my own state because so much money comes from bigger states like California!
same. my property taxes just increased by about 50% more of what it was last year (for example, the one that was 800/yr last year is 1200/yr now). my 18 year old daughter has no hope of ever moving out of my home (and i'm fine with that) because of the cost of housing now. idaho's full. i wish all the pandemic refugees would just go back to where they came from. our roads can't handle the traffic anymore (i'm in north central) and they're crashing all over the place now. these people don't seem to understand that our area up here is extremely mountainous, there are very few places to put a new home without some serious earth moving, lots of this is federal land, roadless wilderness, and will never be available, and we're just full. stop coming here.
I consider this a success story for those reasons lol
