Ive always been hesitant in using certain baits and i know im missing out. Jigs, crankbaits and lipless baits have always been a struggle of mine. I have plenty of confidence baits like plastic worms, top water and spinnerbaits but more is to be desired. These jig tips are definitely helpful in boosting my confidence in trying the baits the proper way. Ive been guilty of using the wrong gear, wrong line, and wrong location but if i can take one wrong out of my game then my chances are going up. Thanks for the tips as always!
This is exactly why I have so much trouble with jigs. I can hardly catch a fish on a jig. I get bites but never get a hook into them or barely hook and one head shake and they are gone. Now I can see exactly why. Thanks for all you do.
Nice vid … here is a trick I learned 10 years ago while fishing Table Rock lake when I drove an hour and forgot my tackle box. I paddled out to a bass boat and met one of the guides, he was kind enough to give me some skirtless jigs and hula grubs. He taught me to trim the claws on them. I never had faith in jigs but I caught a ton of fish. After watching this vid, it now makes perfect sense. Another tip is trimming the weed guard to the hook.
Wow! Love the underwater footage. I agree totally that I have missed bites many times because I set hook too hard when they are just biting the claws of my jig trailers. Summertime bites I can usually set the hook hard the first time I feel a bite. Wintertime bites like you said are usually much more subtle
Thank you for being a great channel...I have gotten pretty good at jig fishing last fall and this underwater footage will only make me better... really makes you understand what your feeling in that rod.. great video 👍
I fish a ton but usually stick baits hardly ever jig fish because I've never been comfortable with or it seemed like I wasn't doing it right. Have watched a few of these so far and I realized I am doing a lot wrong. Gives me a little more confidence with jigs, and worms.
I was in a similar spot to you a year ago. So I started with a finesse jig on the same set up I use my Ned’s Neko’s and Jerks. 7”2 medium braid to floro. When they’re on beds or anywhere near the bottom those little jigs slay. And work your way up from there if ya want. But you throw whatever catches em
@Goaty McGoatface I wasn't trying to teach anything. I wasn't even talking crap, I was just saying live worms and plastic aren't the same. I've caught countless fish on live worms but not a single one on a plastic worm. That's all i was trying to get at.
Wish you guys were coming to the Boat show this weekend in Louisville Kentucky. It would be awesome to meet the guys I have learned so much from. Great video
Amazing video, that's some awesome information. Thank you for taking the time to make these. Sorry I missed you guys at the East TN fishing expo, next time. Thanks again
Thank you guys for all the tips and RUclips content y’all put out. Your tips has lead me using baits that I would of never thrown and throwing with great success. Thank you
Being a beginner fisherman, I was having problems setting the hook. I've learned quickly lol. With this video it's making more sense. Thanks Tim, keep the videos coming. I've learned a lot on your tips and expert advice.
I’ve been trying to get into jig fishing, I wanna catch perch with it (I live in the Netherlands and we have Some big perch) so I’ve been watching a lot of jig fishing videos lately, but these guys makenthe best.
that's actually bad information you want to set the hook right away. if you watch any of their other videos they'll tell you to set it right away because of how fast they spit it out 90% of the time.
@@tacticalbassin then when to set the hook on fisheries with both species? Do you set immediately or wait? Hard to tell who is biting it 15' down on the end of a long cast!
Thanks Tim, good video…..Topic recommendation for you.How about tips, best techniques, and or advise for fishing in foggy conditions. What does the fog do to the bass if anything. This may be a difficult question for pros on the tournament trail because they usually have “fog” delays and do not get to fish in the fog that often.
In an aquarium "The Hog Trough" have watched smallmouth and largemouth grab a crawfish by the pinchers and shake it like crazy especially large crawfish at the same time the same fish will totally engulf a tube
Caught 2 and missed 2 today, on the football. Im 99% smallmouth so the 2 I missed where just like that I think. The 2 I got where bites that felt like normal bite except softer, and the 2 I missed where bate gets Hammered and I swing and miss, its hard to remember, that wait a few seconds to set the hook whenever your adrenaline is jacked! As Always love the underwater footage, I feel like I learn something every time I watch it. Thanks, And hope everything is great Matt and CeCe!
Great stuff!!! It's crazy how many times they grab the back end and dobt get the hook I would have missed every one lol. I'm going to get into jog fishing and commit to it this year my question is when do you use a skipping jig a structure jig and football jig and also if your flipping grass what type jig would you use and also what weight
Very interesting tips definitely going to be more patient in my majority smallie lakes up here in the north 😂 and I always thought the jig was too big for them to swallow meanwhile they are just trying to kill the bait! Awesome tips this is why you guys are amazing love u guys! 👍🔥🔥
I think i would feel the bite on the second slurp when they got the jig completely in their mouth. The first slurp gets the bait only about halfway in. It’s the second one where you set the hook.
Great content! I love fishing a jig. Fantastic underwater footage. Do you guys find that you still like those curly tail type trailers in super cold water or do you switch to more of a “do nothing” trailer? Thanks Tim, you guys have really helped my fishing.
@@tacticalbassin i live in WA state up north and everything is frozen over im going crazy lol. love watching your underwater stuff i can fish vicariously through you guys🤣
I feel like this was a personal therapy session for Tim after missing some jig bites. Lol. Great information and breakdown, especially swing timing for LM and SM. Is it spring yet? (Not in Michigan…..)
I did not realize until this that the jig looks just like a crawfish. I run crawl trailers sometimes. But I will be running crawls trailers now every time
Different brands of scented skirts or trailers video for comparison and downsized versions with smallmouth seems most likely to benefit catch ratio for most watching
You're videos are amazing. How does the summer time change in the bites? Yesterday i had one on my hook i didnt feel it right away. But i did feel that heaviness. Sometimes i feel that heaviness and it seems to be a rock. Is there a way to tell if it fell behind a rock or some other object and when it's a bass?
Thanks for the sight. Am looking to upgrade one of my casting rods. I am exclusive kayak fishing, and want a good rod for weightless stick baits. I have a Shimano Zodias 6'10" MH that I use for texas rigs and craws, but it's a bit too heavy for weightless stick baits. How about an Expride ML in the same length? I use light wire EWG hooks for my stick baits.
@Tim, great content really cool to watch that. Which Levante rod were you recommending - I have Orochi Perfect Pitch and Braillist as well as Levante EMTF (sweet rod for DD75)
I think one of the top 5 most affective soft plastics ever made is the Yamamoto Hula Grub in Pumpkin or Motor Oil… In my 40 plus years of fishing I’ve caught most of my Fish on the Hula Grub lol I’ve even used it with just a Weedless Hook and it’s produced every time..
Kind of unrelated but since you guys travel around fishing so much I thought I ask if you could recommend a lake in Tennessee. Totally unfamiliar with area but looking to rent a lake house, fish and swim. Thx
When is the best time of year to fish these? I’ve tried fishing jigs before but I have never caught a fish on them. Will they work good around lily pads or am I better off hopping them in weed beds?
Amazing underwater-photage, what a beautiful bass! The reason we all wake up before the sun 🌞 just for that bite!

What a great seminar. Thanks so much Tim.
This is gonna be our best bass fishing year yet fellers and fellettes

BEST JIG Instructional video hands down. Thank you for this.
Thank you so much for showing the distinction between smallmouth and largemouth.
Thanks Time! I love that underwater footage, it's really cool seeing bass in their own environment.
Another great vid, Tim! In my reservoir with tubes and jigs I wait to see the line start swimming after the “crack” before I swing on the smallies.
This so fascinating! Kinda makes sense on smallmouth, seems like I swing and miss a ton when throwing a jig at them.
Must be nice to feel a fish on the end lol
They just don’t bite when I throw 😂
Tim puttin in work!! What a great partner holdin it down for Matt and his new baby!!
Jig fishing.. my go to no matter what time of the year. Great informative video as always!!
Thank you Doug !

You bet!
Tim awesome tip video for what to expect on jig bites and how to improve hookup and landing. Thanks
9:30, that's actually a really good tip to think about. Great video and footage, thanks!
Best way to understand and master our techniques, underwater footage.
Thanks for sharing.
I would swing and miss that second smallmouth bite for sure! Crazy.
Great video
Thanks, learn something new everyday. Appreciate that.Keep it coming.
love the underwater footage Tim. Very useful
Good stuff, this happens to me way more than I’d like to admit. Challenging way for me to set the hook. Thanks guys!
Our pleasure!

@@AGuyNamedRicky yeah watched his last video on how slow he retrieves them I was going way too fast. Thanks for the input. 🍻
@Goaty McGoatface Live worms are not the same thing, you don't need to retrieve a live worm at all, just toss it out and wait.

Thanks for making these underwater videos. No channels have these videos

I love it! Definitely a short video but also definitely something that they have Not taught us all before and I appreciate that!
Awesome underwater footage thanks for the information on jig fishing 🎣

Great video! Many show how to fish a jig but never show it on the bottom or how fish were caught. Do more of these!!!!!

Very cool and very helpful thanks for sharing!
This is great and I hear you but I'm always behind lol I guess that's good sometimes 😅 I'm always daydreaming I guess I lack focus at times
Awesome, informative video! I just caught my first bass on a jig this past fall. Thanks for the tips.
Good job man yeah I’m still trying to fill that bite the mush bite
Guys I love the videos I go through them constantly from year to year but any chance we'd get a video on the balsa cranks sometime?
Makes a ton of sense! Very good, enjoyable content brother!
Thanks for sharing your valuable expertise. Can’t wait to put it in use. 👍
My dad “a simi pro” always told me to wait 5 long seconds before hookset on jigs. Now that makes sense
that's actually bad information you want to set the hook right away. if you watch any of their other videos they'll tell you to set it right away because of how fast they spit it out 90% of the time.
That can come back to bite you. Im a fan of setting ASAP on largemouth. Smallmouth you need to check that they are there and then swing.
@@tacticalbassin then when to set the hook on fisheries with both species? Do you set immediately or wait? Hard to tell who is biting it 15' down on the end of a long cast!

This is so cool.Love the under water footage. You guys make it happen ♥️
We agree! It is so cool to see how they react to different baits and movements.
Absolutely phenomenal video. Now I know what the heck those smallmouth are doing to my jigs!!

What a coincidence. I'm heading to the water now with jigs serving as a main lure..
Good luck!
I really like them, the magnet doesnt last long and the tail was gone on the first fish but as you see it works for catching them!
Just caught my first jig fish yesterday. Had a trench hawg trailer.
Woooow they almost go after the legs first! And them Smallmouth are aggressive!!!
They do a lot of the time!
The smallmouth on my lake absolutely love taking the claws off.
Now you can see why. They are so mean sometimes lol
“ give it to em “😂😂😂😂
Woww Amazing fishing my brother..you are the best fishing master. Salam satu hobi catching fish 👍👍
Great video sir
You only need that crazy hook set on Giants… if you have good equipment your hooks will do the job. My dad taught me that EARLY
Would it be better to have a shorter trailer than 1 with longer appendages? Enjoyed this video a bunch!$$$
Wish I had watched this before I fished last weekend. Had some big jig hits but struck out

Interesting 🤨…. Thank you 🙏🏻!
I thought forsure we'd see an expride video 😄
Smallies are notorious for hitting the pinchers like that. I learned that years ago from an old timer fishing live craws.

Very cool footage! 😎 Now tell me how you did it!🤣
You guys need to try the missile baits mini d chunk!
my fish will pick it up by the claws and run out to deep water, crawfish scent has made some difference for them to take it all the way down
When is the best time of year to fish these? I’ve tried fishing jigs before but I have never caught a fish on them. Will they work good around lily pads or am I better off hopping them in weed beds?
I’m torn between two different rods. Should I get the Shimano Intenza or the St. Croix bass x? I will use this rod primarily for flipping jigs.
@tacticalbassin what model of Levante do you recommend for jigs and Texas rigs?
For fishing jigs in open water or lay downs in highland reservoirs (western NC) would you prefer an 893 or an 894 imx-pro jwr?
How do you get that great underwater footage?
If u had a budget end rod for 1/2 jigs and standard Texas rig. Would the 7'5" Shimano slx be it? Looking at around 150$ for a rod. Thanks in advance
More than enough. I like running shorter rows for jigs. Medium heavy 7' slay bass on it
Yes that is actually the rod I was holding in the video.
