- This is a video describing how I tackle Wiring Harness Replacements and the benefit of doing it this way on Early Bay 1968-1971(2) Volkswagen Buses. Didn’t plan for the weather, so y’all ASMR freaks enjoy! - Sam
Great idea, thank you Sam for sharing. Just came across your video, liked , subscribed 👌Cheers from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 🍻
I struggled with my wiring for 2 years... then bought the WW harness.. and it was almost fun to pull everything out and pull all the new stuff in
They make very nice, clear instructed kits for nearly all models through the mid 50's-79.
Working on my 71. After pulling the speedo I have got my wires wrong. Didn’t know the dash was two pieces. I pulled my window and the metal dash part and now have amazing access. Thank you much.
Very glad it helped you out. Makes seeing things straight on and inspecting components so much easier. Best of luck getting things sorted and congrats on bus ownership. They’re the best. - Sam
Just caught your video. Never would of thought about pulling windshield. You just saved my neck, back, elbows, etc. Looking forward to this spring, wire redo. Big thanks
Thanks for watching, glad to was of assistance! -Sam
Great video !!! I’m bout to do my 73 and this video is gonna save me time. I also need to change the front glass so I’ll knock them both out .
Thank you. Glad it was of resource for you. Take your time, plumb the harness correctly in both the front and rear of the bus, it’ll allow for the proper slack you’ll appreciate plumbing the harness to your fuse box. - Sam
Great video Sam! Thank you for the tips! I have a 76 bay window that I'm working on. I'll be targeting the wiring soon. Stay safe! Thanks
It’s a video! Not sure about great, but thanks for watching. Hope something here can be of use for you and others.
Exactly how i did mine, i wrote everything down that was wired priginally in fusebox and then matched up amd rearranged and fixed up a lot of wires
Great video! I’m about to tackle my 74 Westy wiring. I was debating on the Wolfsburg kit but think I’ll pull the trigger on it now. I already have my windshield out for a new seal. Thanks for the great recommendation on pulling dash cover!
Go with the Wolfsburg Kit, you'll be pleased with it and their schematics. Thank you for watching through that ASMR video and finding use of it - Sam
Wish you were in San Diego, pay you in a heartbeat to do this on a 70. Question watched a vid called Bus dash rehab. Basically, he takes off the dash instead of taking the window out. Seems like you would gain the same access. This seems useful if you also want to retore the dash. What do you think?
A large majority of what you have to do to remove the dash cover and various components to completely remove the dash you do so to have the cover painted. Aside from the electrical connections, the side mounting, column, and dash covering to the bus body, the dash removal is pretty straight forward. Seems refinishing the dash would be another reason to remove it as we have here, but a lot of the procedure applies to both.
Great video mate. Just about to fit the new kit, windscreen is out and i was planning on putting it in today... Not now i aint!!. Good idea right there. Is it tricky to rope the windscreen back in with the dash in the way. Just done all the side windows but i pull rope at all angles in circles to get rubber to sit right.
You want the dash installed when installing the windshield. Makes for the installation of the finishing screws along the pinch weld (base of the windshield opening) a breeze for installing before the glass is in the way.
I'm prepping to do this right now with the window out on my completely disassembled and missing parts 71 and I couldn't imaging dealing with this spaghetti factory from under the dash. Need to source all of the dash components - switches, relays, speedometer, fuel gauge, dummy lights if you have any original or aftermarket recommendations.
How do you remove the metal dash? My window is out and I want to fix the rust on the dash. Might rewrite at the same time
@@PoundNetTexas the are Phillips screws along the pinchweld, 2 screws each end of the dash attaching to the A pillars in the door jambs. Removed the 4 Phillips screws attaching the steering column to the dash and the dash should be loose. There are about ten 10mm nuts that attach the metal dash to the dash itself. This is the trickiest bit, but very doable. Good luck - Sam
How do you earth the dash board on a t1972 type 2 bay please. .. As the indicators work on back and front of vehicle, ... but just short out on the dash ? ... very strange !! ... The wiring diagrams are little better than useless, as they dont show grounding. or at least make it clear!! ... i also just keep having the relay for the flash unit , make a clicking sound !!! ... ive tried 2 new ones, .. same problem!! ... .... to stop the noise ... i just remove the bulbs from dash in the end .. just to sop the clicking .... but of course this means no dash indicator lights :( .... the strange thing is, ... that if io touch the bulb and holder to a piece of metal, .. then the bulb lights up !!! ...... is so frustrating, no forum or video ive found actually shows the problem being solved, .... if your lucky you may get some guy saying, .. I jumped this to that etc!!! .... But no explanation or pictures etc, ... of just what they jumped? .. And what they actually mean by Jump!! ....
